they could be of any religion but it is a disguise.
non-sikh regular soldiers aren't allowed to keep beards.
exceptions are marcos and undercover SF.

they could be of Any Religion. They could be Christian or Bhuddist. But only the Sikh are allowed Beards in the Indian Army and that too trimmed not like this. SF and UC units are allowed relaxed grooming to mingle with the locals.has it occurred to anyone that they could be Muslims and not just disguse?
Re: Miscellaneous Pictures - Indian Military
BTW yesterdays HT said that the Indian Army in congo for the first time had gone on the Offensive with APCs and Gunships. Hundreds of rebels have said to have died ..Anybody got any pics of that?
Re: Miscellaneous Pictures - Indian Military
Does anyone have a wallpaper size high-quality photograph of LSP-2 in flight ?
Re: Miscellaneous Pictures - Indian Military
Is the right most trooper wearing a American style helmet or is it our normal WW-2 tin bucket with camouflage applied?
Re: Miscellaneous Pictures - Indian Military
I happened to see one from up close at Ahmedabad airport in Jan 2007. IAF had ordered and should be recieving (or probably has already recieved) three 737-700 based Rajdoots soon.
As for the 737's safety record, its only natural considering the number of 737s flying and the relative old age of a number of them..most of the accidents are because operators are not following laid down maintenance procedures.
Re: Miscellaneous Pictures - Indian Military
Are they(737s) for VIP transport or ELINT/COMINT?
Re: Miscellaneous Pictures - Indian Military
Nope. He is just wearing a cloth on his headsum wrote:Is the right most trooper wearing a American style helmet or is it our normal WW-2 tin bucket with camouflage applied?
Re: Miscellaneous Pictures - Indian Military
Not exactly. Around 8000 737 and around 3000 A320 (Airbus counterpart) are operating worldwide. If you match the accident ratio the 737 is far ahead (in terms of accidents) than Airbus. In 2005-2007 lots of 737-700s and 737-800s crashed (which are the newer ones) and 737 is known to have design problems with PCU of rudder. Boeing is supposed to retrofit existing 737s by 2008-2009, so till that time everytime one flies on 737 (earlier models than 700), one is flying with a known danger.Kartik wrote:As for the 737's safety record, its only natural considering the number of 737s flying and the relative old age of a number of them..most of the accidents are because operators are not following laid down maintenance procedures.
Personally I feel lot safer in an airbus than boeing (especially 737), and try to avoid it by asking the aircraft type before buying the tickets.
Cheers.....

76th Air Force Day
1:30 pm on Air Force Day ... four and a half hours after the parade should have taken place ... and CNN IBN is the only news site with pictures of the 76th Air Force Day parade, at Hindan:

(Some horribly Bollywoodized captions, but what the heck, even that doesn't spoil the pictures!!)
Enjoy ... regards

The sikh officer saluting looks really smart.

Minor correction:K Mehta wrote:Hamid was a soldier who was killed during the 1965 India-Pakistan war.
Abdul Hamid was a posthumous recipient of the Param Vir Chakra during the 1965 India-Pakistan war.
No surprises there. The public memory is rather limited for such mundane details, and the media just helps it along.
Re: Miscellaneous Pictures - Indian Military
Just copy-pasted from deccan herald's photos. But what you say is right. More importantly, i dont think this was covered in mainstream media much. In the US, this would have been something huge. Esp in this election year. In India, there is just this photo which didnt even appear in the newspaper, with an improper caption.malushahi wrote: Minor correction:

A central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel stands guard infront of the rocket at the Vehicle Assembly Building of the India's first unmanned mission to the Moon Chandrayaan-1 in Sriharikota, India, 07 October 2008.
Re: Miscellaneous Pictures - Indian Military
Is this guy a CISF personnel. The patch in the arms suggests a force related to guarding space related assets.
Also is that a holster for side arm or a spare magzine pouch. CISF folks usually doesnt carry a side arm.

Sharp observation!!!!!Is this guy a CISF personnel. The patch in the arms suggests a force related to guarding space related assets.
Wonder if it is a CISF battalion dedicated to ISRO since IIRC,ISRO doesnt have a dedicated security force of its own....
Re: Miscellaneous Pictures - Indian Military
Per my knowledge it is indeed the CISF that provides security at Sriharikota. Not sure about the patch though. Might be a patch worn by CISF when placed at ISRO installations or at Sriharikota.

Re: Miscellaneous Pictures - Indian Military
Those Sikhs with the shiny shoes are soldiers from the Sikh Light Infantry.
I beleive there is a article on BR about a commemorative expedition to Africa with British troops.
THe expedition originally took place in the 18-19th Century in Ethiopia.
