Could somebody please identify the birds in images numbers 3 and 6.
My salaams to you saar for putting your money where everyone else's mouth is. Thanks.
3 is a chetak
6 - I have always been intrigued by the huge box like underbelly thingy that 6 carries and I have never been able to identify it although I have seen it a dozen times.

Thanks for the Chankian detective work. That allowed me to compare with other pics on the net. This machine does seem to carry a weird rectangular underbelly add-on pod that I have observed many times. I believe the plane resides in the capital of Kerala, Bangalore. The fact that it is taking part in this show (if it is) makes me suspect that our desi skunkworks are using it for some SDRE testing.

Capital of Kerala, Bangalore ?????????
K
PS Should I go to my school geography classes ?
No no you are right. There used to a Baki poster who portrayed himself to be from south India. But as you know "once a Baki always Baki"...........he started shitting around. He maintained that he is from true Indian from Bangalore, capital of Kerala. His cover was blown. Since then this is used as a joke from time to time. So relax
Bangalore, Kerala reminds me of a "Shimla, Occupied Kashmir" statement made by a Paklet in Skyscrapercity - a skyscraper/infra/architecture forum. The Indian members had submitted a banner of Shimla which like the google doodle would stay at the top of the forum pages for 24hrs. As soon as the banner was up, the all knowing TFTA responded here

Sorry, couldn't resist the OT!! This should be put up in the Humour thread
I believe this has already been linked in the military multimedia thread. This is the "pictures" thread. Please do try and think before posting.
Please also do everyone a favor and write a few words describing what the link is about so if someone is not interested he need not click the link. We are a community here - not random individuals shouting random info to passersby.
rkhanna wrote:Here is another one..Anybody have any idea of the Unit.? RR still using TAVORs?
2 Questions:
1) When did RR start using Tavors? I thought only the SFF, Paras and the J&K SOG use it.
2) What do you mean by "Still using"? Are they outdated already?
From my source of information i was told that a couple of specific units within the RR and J&K SOG were given the TAVORs out of the initial test batch purchase to validate them in combat while the SFF tinkered around with them back in their barracks. The TAVORs with the RR and J&K SOG were not supposed to be a permanent fixture..there were for trials and were to be returned to the Special Forces HQ with their report. This was told to me a few years ago..i dont know if it still holds true..so i was wondering if the RR are still deployed with TAVORs

^^^He wants four of those....they are sorting out the issue of how many will be built in France and Russia. France says 2+2 while Russians want 1+3. Russian General is on record that if Russia has these ships, the Georgian conflict would have ended in 40minutes rather than the 26hours it originally too them.

You can never be too careful. The thugs may be inside the shack, and these may be lookouts, the thugs may have given the slip and these civilians may be putting up a show to simply keep the cops pinned down. Whatever it is quick action should be taken. I am reassured to see well armed police teams. A show of force is absolutely necessary. I know that we have enough to destroy any rebel or criminal gang many times over. But once in a while the forces must prove that they can do so.
When we were in Manipur during late 1980's, my father used to don civvies to go and come back from work. Once in office, he used to change to IAF Khaki.

The navy and army have sent a proposal to the government seeking permission to transport a 5,000-strong armed infantry and special forces troops, tanks and weapons - an independent brigade group (IBG) - on foreign shores for active operations. This capability has both been controversial and strategically provocative.
Me thinks they are seriously evaluating mistral class for IBGs.
Friends from the two states - manipur and mizoram report that alcohol is banned in these two states.
The result? Kids and the young are doing drugs instead of alcohol. The border with burma is vast and thickly forested.

True, any enforcement is useless unless they keep a lid on Moreh market aka chor bazar.
Bala Vignesh wrote:Are those Gazelles?? The cockpit seems to be an exact copy of the Cheetah...
yes, they are Gazelles. Interestingly this is how you shove in Gazelles into an AN-124. I kept them there as I am very fond of these chopper. I find them cute and funny. You could hide then under your bed too. Very compact.
Bala Vignesh wrote:Are those Gazelles?? The cockpit seems to be an exact copy of the Cheetah...
For a simple reason that the original name of Cheetah is Aérospatiale SA 315B Lama - manufactured by the same company which manufactures these Gazelles...BTW, Chetak Hptr is also their product, known as Alouette III
