Maoists and A.K. Antony are both ready to fight the "Taliban"... they should be sent to Waziristan to assist the TSPA/ISI in that project, because neither of them is doing any good against India's real problems.

I dont know if this was posted here earlier. Anyways the Malegoan case thread was deleted.....

CBI gives clean chit to Pragya and Purohit in Nanded case
In a relief to former Lieutenant Colonel Prasad Purohit and Sadhvi Pragya Thakur, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has given these Malegaon blast accused a clean chit in the Nanded case which the investigative agency is probing again.

A CBI officer on Monday revealed that the agency filed a supplementary chargesheet in the Nanded case last month, but only against Punebased antique arms dealer, Rakesh Dhawade.

The CBI had re-opened the Nanded case in December 2008 after the Maharashtra Anti- Terrorism Squad (ATS) arrested 11 persons, including Dhawade, Purohit and Pragya, for the Malegaon blasts and revealed a link between the Malegaon and Nanded incidents.

The ATS submitted its Malegaon chargesheet in January, implicating Dhawade for the Nanded blasts as well. Dhawade has also been charge-sheeted by the ATS for bomb blasts in the Purna mosque in Purna (Parbhani), Qadriya mosque in Jalna and the Mohammediya mosque in Parbhani.

While it took the CBI eight more months to reconfirm Dhawade's link with the Nanded case, the agency has let Purohit and Pragya go free.

This, despite the ATS chargesheet in the Malegaon case calling Dhawade the "main member of the organised crime syndicate involving all the Malegaon accused". "Dhawade was present at the oath- taking ceremony of members of Abhinav Bharat at Raigad fort in 2006 - attended by Purohit, Ajay Rahirkar , and others," reads the ATS chargesheet.

US help for tackling terror
India can look forward to American help in anti-terror measures such as the setting up of a national counter-terrorism cell and rapid deployment of forces at the time of terror strikes besides sharing ‘actionable intelligence,’ U.S. Ambassador to India Timothy J. Roemer said here on Wednesday

He was addressing journalists on Home Minister P. Chidambaram’s visit to the U.S. and the cooperation between the two countries in fighting terror.

He said that during Mr. Chidambaram’s ‘productive visit,’ there was an exchange of ideas on forensic laboratories, technology and training, protecting soft targets, mega policing, and maritime security that attained importance after the Mumbai terror attack. The U.S. shared lessons learnt from 9/11 and what had gone wrong before it. The cooperation was mutual as the U.S. was keen on learning from the Indian experience.

Love jihad: HC orders inquiry

A division bench comprising Justices K Sreedhar Rao and Ravi Malimath directed to inquire into the circumstances of flight of a girl to Kerala and being kept in a madrasa for a month. The Bench deemed it necessary to investigate whether the girl’s decision to live with the boy was made with her free consent or under duress. It also handed over the custody of the girl to her parents during the three-week period of inquiry.

The girl, 21-year-old Siljaraj, had disappeared on August 8, 2009. Her father, C Selvaraj received a call from Azkar of Kannur district, Kerala on Aug 15, stating that Siljaraj was with him and their marriage had been solemnised as per Mohammedan Law. A few days later, he received another call from one K M Parthi Kutty saying that his daughter had converted to Islam. When the father tried to meet the daughter on August 19, he was told that he could not meet her as she was in a madrasa. The girl was produced in the HC on Tuesday following a habeas corpus petition by the father. The counsel for the petitioner had claimed that the girl was being brainwashed. The petitioners had also sought custody of the girl. The girl had said that she was already married under Mohammedan Law and was now waiting for the marriage to be registered under the Special Marriage Act. She had denied that she was being held against her will in the madrasa.

Similar cases

The Bench, on Wednesday accepted the argument of the petitioner’s counsel, who referred to the judgement of the Kerala HC in a similar case, where two girls were found to have left their houses under similar circumstances. The counsel argued that the girls were handed over to their parents for two weeks, following which they did not wish to return to the madrasa. There are four cases pertaining to this particular madrasa in Ponnani taluk in Kerala, the counsel said.

The Bench observed that the facts warranted a thorough police investigation into the antecedents of the respondents and other aspects of love jihad. “The girl being a major is free to marry anybody but the facts create suspicion with ramifications of national magnitude concerning national security, besides the question of unlawful trafficking. We deem it necessary that the DGP should get the matter thoroughly investigated and place the matter before the court,” it directed.

Taking strong exception to the submission that police could not enter the madrasa themselves and had to use a middleman to get the girl outside, the Bench and said that it was a startling revelation of the insurmountable difficulty the Karnataka and Kerala police had in gaining access to the girl.

On being shown the figures of the missing women and girls from 2003 to May of 2009, the Court observed, “the disgusting statistics show that the State has to do more”. It recommended the setting up of a special cell, exclusively to look into these cases. Statistics revealed that from January to May 31 of this year, 2,521 cases of missing women and girls were registered, out of which, 1,001 are yet to be traced. The matter has been adjourned to November 13

"Love Jehad" looks like is no sick joke and there is such a movement. And in Kerala ruled by the communists (who were mollycoddling with Mahdani & Co) we really should not expect the police to enter any mosque premises  .

I remember clearly that when this issue was raised earlier, it was rubbished. Pseudo-secularism perhaps. Anyway, Muslim Central Committee to discuss 'love jehad'
The Muslim Central Committee of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts will convene a conference of Muslims here on November 12 to discuss issues related to “love jehad”.

Addressing presspersons here on Thursday committee president K.S. Mohammed Masood alleged that vested interests were attempting to tarnish the image of Islam by framing the phrase “love jehad”. “There is no such phrase in Islam. It is an absurd usage,” he said.

Such forces are trying to divide Muslims and Hindus by coining the phase “love jehad”. “It is an attempt to destabilise peace in society and Muslim-Hindu unity,” he said.

Tried and time tested tactics.

Obfuscate, confuse, divert, deny and dispose.

Are microprocessors mentioned in the koran?

same old same old crap.

This love jihad was ignored when it was pointed out very much earlier by some Hindu organisations but people sat up up only when the christians woke up to a similar predicament and protested loudly enough to catch the attention of a somnolent DDM that has now made it a cause célèbre

Religious Conversions through Love Jihad Even in Kerala

Pathanamthitta : An organisation that aims at converting girls through love marriage is functioning in Kerala. Hundreds of girls have been converted by this organisation through this strategy.

Since the last six months, about 4,000 such marriages have already happened as can be seen from Panchayat registers. The Special Branch of Kerala Police has started investigation in this regard after noticing such mass conversions.

The highest number of such marriages is being reported from Malappuram. Kozhikkode and Kasargode come next in the list. Such marriages have been reported from other districts of Kerala too.

This organisation makes use of groups of boys belonging to a particular religious faith. They are taught how to lure girls coming from different religious persuasions. They have been ordered to leave those girls who do not fall into their “love trap” within two weeks. Further, the organisation orders their followers to marry them within a short period of six month and to have at least four children.

The main targets of this organisation include college students and working women. The organisation gives one lakh rupees to such converted women and also gives financial support to boys to start business activities. It is now known that several foreign agencies are financially helping this organisation. This organisation has been actively working since last year.

The “Love Jihad” organisation provides their members with mobile phones, motor cycles, good clothing, etc. for more effective allurment of girls. The organisation has a well defined setup with a “Zonal Chairman” responsible for coordinating activities in a particular district. During college admissions, this organisation has different units which prepare a detailed list of girls classified according to their religion.

No sign of ‘love jehad’ in Kerala, DGP tells court
Kochi: Kerala’s Director-General of Police on Thursday informed the Kerala High Court that the police were looking into allegations that some organisations had devised plans for “compulsive or deceitful religious conversion” by winning over young women.

In a statement filed before the court, Jacob Punnoose said no organisation or movement called “love jehad” or “Romeo jehad” had been identified as working in the State and there was no evidence of such organisations. It had not been established that any particular organisation was actively engaged in such religious conversions.

The DGP, however, stated that there was unconfirmed information that some groups were actively working among youngsters encouraging conversions by using such techniques, and that young men engaged in such pursuits were said to be receiving funds from abroad directly or indirectly for purchasing clothes and vehicles and for availing themselves of legal help. They had links with other places in the country as well.

Justice K.T. Sankaran of the High Court had directed the DGP to file a statement on the alleged activities of “Romeo jehad” or “love jehad” or organisations that indulged in converting young women from other religions to Islam after professing love to them. The court issued the directive while considering anticipatory bail petitions filed by Shahan Sha and Sirajudeen, who had been charged with abducting and forcibly converting two women MBA students to Islam.

The DGP’s statement said a large number of inter-religious marriages were taking place and conversions were taking place on that basis. The details or number of such marriages were not readily available with the police. At the same time, there was reason to suspect that there were attempts to persuade young women to change their religion after they fall in love with Muslim boys. :?:

The police would take “stern lawful action” against compulsive or deceitful religious conversions. The intelligence agencies of the police had been asked to monitor the activities of any organisation and group indulging in religious conversion.
Does anyone else see the contradictions in the statement? They haveen't found any organizations doing it, but there are reports of funds from abroad for such activities and that there are large number of such marraiges taking place!

Terror threat to Chennai
We are hearing more and more of these in the city nowadays.
Though the letter received at the Adyar police station  here did not specify any date or time of the attack, it named the Tamil Nadu Police Academy, Chennai Airport, Officers Training Academy and the American Embassy (U.S. Consulate) among others as its targets and challenged the police to avert the sabotage if they could, police sources said.
According to a source in the intelligence, the letter even listed T. Nagar, Ritchie Street and Marina Beach as targets. It warned of an RDX explosion at the Chennai Central railway station.

Muppalla, quite possible, but it could also be testing defences and vulnerabilities. Among all major Indian cities, Chennai has been an exception so far. In the last serial bomb blasts time, Chennai was also targetted but the bombs were not ready.

Actually what the DGP says is true. There is no organisation or club named "Love Jehad" or "Romeo Jehad". But he has admitted about funds coming from abroad for such conversion activities. Though the police can (and should) go after the sources of these funds, and folks who receive them when it comes to tackling this menace only a "campaign at a home level" would work. The police cannot enforce a rule like "no non-Muslim can marry a Muslim". This issue even though existed for some time (atleast a year), it only came into the lime light after the Romeo Jehadis tried their dirty tricks with the Christians (a much more stronger group, who have good political clout as well).

Naxals get arms from abroad - PC
Mr. Chidambaram said the government is practical enough to understand that the Naxals would not lay down arms. . . . “We know now that the weapons are coming through Bangladesh and Myanmar and possibly Nepal. The border is very porous. The Indo-Nepal border is a very porous border.” He said police has not found any weapons with Pakistani marking. . . . Asked if there are any groups from abroad backing the Maoists, the Minister said “I don’t know. It is possible that they get some intellectual support. I hear voices of some human rights group from abroad which say that we have unleashed a war on the Maoists. That is the intellectual support I am referring to.”

Asked if there is any evidence of external help to Maoists, Mr. Chidambaram said it may be at the level of intellectual or ideological level.

“Let me state it in carefully chosen words that if any group abjures violence we are willing to talk to that group about any genuine grievances. This is what the Prime Minister has said, this is what I have said. We have not asked them to anything more. We simply say halt the violence and then we can talk,” he said.

“This is the land where Mahatma Gandhi won us freedom through non-violence. Can you have a greater oppressor than a colonial government?”

The governments, he said, were not engaging the naxalities and in this period of 10 to 12 years, the naxalites have expanded their area of influence and dominance

HC asks cop to clarify on 'Love Jihad'
The Kerala High Court on Monday directed the director general of police to clear the contradictions in his statement to the court regarding the existence of an organisation called ‘Love Jihad’.

The court clearly expressed dissatisfaction over DGP Jacob Punnose’s “unclear and incomplete” report on Love Jihad wherein girls from other religious background are allegedly lured to marriage and converted to Islam. It was the court which asked the police to probe the reported attempt of Muslim youth to convert Hindu and Christian girls to Islam. Justice K T Sankaran gave the directive while rejecting the bail applications of two youths who had allegedly trapped two girls for conversion.

In the above case the girls were one Hindu and one Christian. That denied the Jehadi romeos to claim idiotic stuff like "Hindu fanatics" are now targetting them etc. Both girls decided to go back to their parents; looks like the Romeos did not get enough time to brainwash them completely. Tough luck !!

Among the Mallu crowd, I have already started seeing mails floating around making sarcastic remarks against the people's new-found distrust of Muslim young boys. A sense of "victimhood" has already crept in. In Bangalore a Muslim organisation demanded a detailed probe against Jehadi Romeos, because it felt that now young Muslims are suspected by every other person.

In Kerala a few pro-Islamist news papers and media have come up with the standard excuse. The girls who converted did by their own free will after "realising the true religion" ;).

There has been several posts crying or e-crying loudly about so called Love Jihad or Harquat-ul-Isqh-e-Mujahid --- pardon my poor Urdu.

What solution do you guys propose?

----

I propose following change in existing marital laws : If a girl-X of religion-X at birth marries boy of religion-Y, then girl will decide which marital law will apply on their marriage, and she can change the decision any day even after marriage, even if she has converted.

The new proposed law makes the status of woman better over the status of man. So if both are of same religion, the law will have no change. And if boy is Hindu and girl is Muslim, Hindu boy will more than happy to have marriage/divorce laws of Islam !! But if boy is muslim and girl is Hindu/Christian, the boy will be royally screwed if the girl later decides that Hindu/Christian laws should be applied on the marriage.

The above law is something p-sec like ARoy, Mahatma MMS, Maino, CPM MPs etc cant oppose as if they oppose, they can portrayed as anti-woman.

So the new law will create a fear in Muslim boys that if he marries a Hindu girl, and if she later demands that Hindu marriage code should be applied on the marriage, he cant use The Triple Talaq Law. And if she throws 498A or DVA on him, then he and all his in-laws may land in prison. And in prison, there will be always be some VHP guys to give them brotherly treatment. A few such cases, and no muslim boy man will ever dare to marry Hindu girl.

so the above proposed law is enough to stop this Love Jihad, if at all such Jihad exists.

RM,
The new proposed law makes the status of woman better over the status of man.
You are assuming that the girl will not be under pressure from various quarters and she will be able to /allowed to take the decision of her own will.
Some of the cases I read in this "Love Jihad" was that the girl completely vanishes for sometime or permanently after the so called marriage. If they comeback they would have converted. There is an element of pressure /duress involved here.

Rahul Mehta, a quick look at known celebrities or acquaintances etc. who married inter-religious will show that no such legislation can help men & women of certain religions.

Exactly. A legislation is not going to bring in any change. What is required is to create awareness. When the evil nature of such "Romeo Jehadis" are exposed, the practise will have to stop (die a natural death). I am already seeing a lot of takleef mails/editorials floating around in certain circles ;). Folks have already started feeling the heat, and now the cries for an investigation, bringing out the truth etc. It is very tough to live in a society where every one treats you with suspicion (and disguised contempt), and the "Romeo Jehadis" and their sympathisers will realise that.

Here more than any law or a policeman behind every girl; what is required is some good parenting, IMVHO. At the law enforcement side what is required is the good old police work. Surveillance, monitoring of funds coming from abroad and 'intelligence work'. For that the existing laws are pretty much sufficient. In Kerala, the police knows what was happening but they were yet to get the political go-ahead. Most likely the court will give the go-ahead.

The existing *laws* do favor muslim guy, because he has NOTHING to lose if the marriage turn sour - just say TTT and/or have one more before or after Talaq as you please. (Where as Hindu boy will think 100 times before marrying girl, as if marriage turns sour, then 498A, DVA can come with 10 times the force.)

Once the new law makes Hindu marriage acts a possibility on muslim boy (if the girl wants), a few cases of 498A, DVA and no muslim guy will even dare to think of marrying a Hindu girl. As per awareness, there is tons of awareness on this and wont make any difference. If there is a LJ going on, awareness will make no difference.

I think the big mistake these jihad romeos did was to target christians. If they had stuck to hindu girls, no one except the "hindu right wing fundamentalists" would have objected

Sir, if every people had such firm belief and faith in laws of the land and followed it, India would have become deva loka by now. Here in the case of Love Jehad the idea is not to fall in love with a Hindu girl and "live with her ever after happily". The idea is to prove a point, convert the girl (using coercive techniques) and then misuse her and kick her out. The Muslim youth involved here is least bit bothered about the laws of the land. In the most recent case of a girl from Karnataka landing up in a mosque-cum-conversion centre in Central Kerala, guess what happened? The Karnataka and Kerala police had to take the help of local Muslim clerics/elders to search the place and get the girl back. It was more like two state police forces begging the mosque authorities to give the girl back. If this is the situation what help is of Hindu Marriage Act, DVA, Sec.498A going to be of use?
If there is a LJ going on, awareness will make no difference
The awareness is making a big difference (in Kerala atleast). People have started keeping an arms-distance away from Muslim boys. In colleges postor campaigns have started asking non-Muslim girls to be careful. The Christian church has launched is campaign in a big way. Muslim organisations and their mouth pieces have gone on the defensive. And this is when not even a single section of Hindu Marriage Act, or Domestic Violence Act was discussed. Forget IPC Sec. 498A.
RaviBg wrote:Sachin and others, how are the local Malayalam media including TV channels treating this issue?
The local TV channel Surya TV had done a sting operation on some of these mosque-cum-conversion centres. They had also managed to get an interview with one of the rescued victims. As for the past two days the TV media is not giving enough coverage on the "Love Jehad" front. But the print media is giving pretty much daily reports on the court's observation and interventions. The last ruling to the DGP asking him to make his 'ambivalent stand' more clearer was also duly highlighted.

Haindava Keralam web site is also keeping this case live in the Internet world. But some times they become hyperactive.
So some people of some communities have already started getting a victim complex. What about people from other communities?
Yep, the more established parties like Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) are totally silent on this issue. The new comers like NDF etc., are the ones who have started getting takleef. Their mouth piece also tried to justify all this by saying that people are converting after they realised the "true religion" etc. But in over-all they have started getting defensive. They have now realised the demerits of the Love Jehad campaign. Two of the Love Jehadis are yet to get bail.
I think the big mistake these jihad romeos did was to target christians.
Yes. If it had been Hindus, the standard refrain of "upper caste Hindu girls-frusturated-realised true worth of Islam-converted-Hindu fundamentalists are oppressing Hindu women" etc. could be used. And the "secular" media of Kerala would have gone with that story. But when Christians also got trapped, it was more like one religion trying its dirty tactics against two other religions. That completely changed the picture.

Updated on Saturday, October 31, 2009, 23:51 IST

Mumbai: Amitabh Bachchan has made a sensational revelation at his blog - bigadda.com. The seasoned actor says that he has received an SMS threat from an anonymous person because of his secular beliefs and the fact that he visits a Hindu temple as well as a Muslim dargah.

The 67-year-old actor had described his religious routines in an earlier blog, which led the unknown person to threaten him against doing so, but the megastar is undeterred.

"That I visit a Muslim dargah and a Hindu temple has been viciously criticized by an unknown element on my mobile. He says it is incorrect of me to do so and that I should never do it again." Bachchan wrote on his blog.

Earlier, the actor had visited the Haji Ali dargah in the wee hours on Thursday and then went to a nearby temple. He also visited a small dargah on and finally went to the Siddhivinayak temple.

But despite the warning, Bachchan insists that he is unaffected by such reactions.

"I am going to do it again, and shall continue to do it. And I want to see how you are going to stop me. If you have the courage and guts come and get me," he wrote.

TV news. India on high alert for a 26-11 type attack. Mumbai, Kolkata and Bangalore alerted as well as coastal states in general.

There will be retaliation if there is an attack - as per news.

Incidentally Pak navy is on war games in Arabian sea - they may give logistics support to terrorists.

That IMO is a clincher. There was much talk last yr when 26/11 unfolded of IN taking out the whole of the PN in one swoop as measured retaliation. PN shat in its pants and IMO henceforth decided to keep away whenever their bosom pals in the ISI plan more mischief here.

Seems anytime the PN is not in the krachi harbor, terror attcks against yindia become hajaar more likely.

The last few days have seen the US issuing a travel advisory to India. Israel had issued one weeks ago. Something is afoot.

Don't you know what austerity means, Mr CM?
Ashok Chavan is probably unaware that Maharashtra's deficit is a daunting Rs 8,462 crore. Why else would he spend Rs 1 crore of govt money on police security for Sathya Sai Baba's visit to his home?

Spiritual leader Sathya Sai Baba was on a private visit to meet Chief Minister Ashok Chavan yesterday. He ended up costing the state government a cool Rs 1 crore after 30,000 policemen were deployed to keep him safe.

That's a staggering number considering that only around 10,000 policemen, including those from the traffic department, are on duty on a regular Sunday.

It was Joint Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) Himanshu Roy who took the decision to deploy the policemen and sent the message to all police stations on Saturday evening.

Yesterday, the police were already stretched to the limit after several cops were deployed for two religious events that took place at Azad Maidan and Somaiya Grounds in Chunabhatti.
On duty

Around 900 policemen had been deployed from Worli, where there were traffic jams on the road to south Mumbai, to the CM's residence, Varsha, at Malabar Hill.

There was a policeman every 20 m on either side of the road. No vehicles were allowed on Annie Besant Road so that Sathya Sai Baba's 20-vehicle cavalcade could pass smoothly.

Sniffer dogs were used to check for explosives at Varsha and CCI, where Baba met some devotees later.

Special Branch officers with the Intelligence Bureau were also on hand to keep tabs on rival religious groups.

'Not acceptable'

MLA Abu Azmi was upset that government used state resources for a spiritual leader's private visit. "I fully condemn the act of the chief minister hosting Sathya Sai Baba.

People can have their beliefs in whomever they want. But it is not right for the chief minister to use state machinery and policemen to host him."

Sunday Blues for Policemen

Several policemen were angry after they were told on Saturday evening that their Sunday holiday had been cancelled because of Baba's visit.

"I had planned to attend a function in Pune and was forced to cancel it," said a senior inspector.

Added an assistant police inspector from the traffic department, "After a hard week at work, we expect to be with our family on a Sunday.

Now, it will be six days before we get another day off." And an angry traffic constable said, "On Sundays, traffic is fairly less on the streets of Mumbai, so we take it a little easy. But we had to slog yesterday."

The Other Side

Chief Minister Ashok Chavan said, "I am a devotee of Sathya Sai Baba. I will conduct a religious function at my residence and not elsewhere.

The policemen are expected to protect the chief minister." JCP Himanshu Roy was not available for comment despite repeated attempts.

Bush's Security

Former US president George W Bush was another high-profile visitor to Mumbai over the weekend.

Bush was guarded by two police inspectors, four assistant police inspectors, six sub-inspectors and 58 constables.

Other than this, over 30 police personnel also guarded the Taj Mahal Hotel where he stayed.
