Dawood Mulli-in-Bund
All those that migrated from Mulli-in-Bund, Pakistan to Great Britain. :)

Anyways on a more serious note. Clinton. Speech. Mentions "terror" exactly three times. And, never in context of it should not happen to India again!!

Which is what MMS's theme has been.

There is a big disconnect here between the US and India. What is missed out is that "India" actually means the people of India - who just voted, want this to happen. This is NOT a political gimmick, but as MMS stated a mandate.

Clinton should not disregard this.

Dunno. The reliable CNN report states:
Clinton was with Richard Holbrooke, President Obama's special envoy to Afghanistan and Pakistan, when she fell.
Coming to an agreement on Af-Pak is always difficult.

My two theories are:
1. Holbrooke was briefing the President about AfPak, and Clinton, who had her elbow on the table, and face in her hand dozed away, and fell to the ground.
2. Hillary Clinton tried to hit Obama with her elbow as his back was to her, but met the metal skeleton underneath instead.

OMG!!! To what lengths would the Obama Administration go to avoid India. They even broke Hillary's arm for that. The Friends-of-Pakistan Axis really has connections high up there, and would do everything to sabotage an alliance between India and Amreeka.

Chin-Pak is too deep inside the psyche of Dems and most of the forumites have discussed in detail in the past. They are double lucky with India currently having a very friendly and submissve administration to do a mile for every inch requested.

INDIAN EXPRESS
BRICs and G-2

C. Raja Mohan Posted: Wednesday, Jun 17, 2009 at 0140 hrs IST
All the soaring rhetoric from Yekaterinburg on the solidarity of the second tier powers against Anglo-Saxon hegemony can’t hide one simple reality — that China is a cut above the rest of the BRICs.Unpack the impressive combined statistics of the BRICs and you will find an unmistakable hierarchy. Russia is a declining power and is on the way down. India and Brazil are on the way up, but have a long way to go. Among the BRICs, China is the number one.
When you are on top of a heap, you get a better perspective than when you are at its bottom. That is what probably separates China and India at this week’s talk-fest in Yekaterinburg. India has gone to Yekaterinburg because of its abiding sense of obligation to Russia. The Chinese, in contrast, are in the Urals to enjoy a free political ride. China has two reasons to encourage Russia’s anti-Western bravado. If someone has to bash the Americans, why not get the Russians to do it? The harder the Russians go at America, Beijing knows, the greater its own leverage with Washington.
This, indeed, is an old story
. Russia’s confrontation with the West helped China get better terms from the British imperialists in the nineteenth century and the hegemonic Americans in the twentieth. The twenty-first century, however, is different with China ranked higher than Russia. The Obama administration has confirmed the new global pecking order when it declared that managing its bilateral relationship with China is the most important foreign policy priority. The idea of ‘Group of Two’ — America and China — jointly managing the world has steadily gained ground since Barack Obama took charge of Washington.
Russia might have thousands of nuclear weapons and could yet blow up and the world in an instant. But it is not Russia’s rusty nuke arsenal that keeps Americans awake at night. It is China’s ability to threaten mutually assured financial destruction that makes the Anglo-Saxons nervous. It is no secret that only the Chinese have the clout to negotiate with the Americans on global financial system. Why should any one expect Beijing to dilute its own power by sharing it with the rest of the BRICs?
The Han and the Slavs
If BRICs is Russia’s baby, the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation is the only international forum that has been founded by China. Beijing’s objective was simple — to stabilise its distant western frontiers by engaging the Central Asian neighbours.
For China, Russia was a useful partner in Eurasia. Neither of them wants an expansion of US influence in inner Asia. Nor do Beijing and Moscow take kindly to Washington’s half-baked efforts at promoting democratic revolutions on their borders. Like all else in world politics, the recent convergence of the Han and Slav interests in Eurasia is not permanent.
As China becomes stronger than Russia, Moscow will necessarily have to rethink its ties to Beijing and Washington. As it serenades the disparate bunch from SCO and BRICs in Yekaterinburg this week, Russia is gearing up to receive President Obama in Moscow next month. Obama’s promise to ‘reset’ relations with Russia has boosted Moscow’s hopes for a renewed partnership with Washington. It is not for nothing that Russia’s national symbol is an eagle with two heads — one looking east and the other looking west.
Tragedy or farce?
If the BRICs and SCO are Russian and Chinese bargaining chips with America, what is India doing at Yekaterinburg? India has traveled down this road before when it deluded itself about Asian unity in the early years after independence and ignored the gathering crisis with China.
Within a decade Delhi was locked in a debilitating conflict with Beijing. Delhi faces similar challenges with Beijing today. These include the stalled boundary talks, deepening distrust on Tibet, and the gathering sense of mutual geopolitical encirclement.
If India sweeps these difficult bilateral issues under the carpet and indulges in soaring multilateral rhetoric with China, Beijing will administer a painful reality check sooner than later. Those in the South Block who remember the tragic results from the delusions of Asian unity in the 1950s, one hopes, do recognise that the chatter in Yekaterinburg on Eurasian solidarity is little more than that.

Is Rajamohan suggesting that India should not have gone to the BRIC summit? This article is not clear on the policy prescription apart from a subtle hint that India may not benefit from these groupings. Hasn't Rajamohan been a pro US commentator.

India has to keep her relations with Russia intact and for that purpose traveling to Russia for BRIC summit is beneficial to her. That is regardless of others pursuing G2, G1 or whatever.

US is never going to allow another blade of grass under its feet, all the talk of India will be made super power Condi Rice ended up in PRC being more irritated and Indian army holding arms ( not arms as in guns but hands) to thwart PLA move in Arunachal. If we count US to give India anything it will be free advice to part with J&K. That is the reality. We have to plough our own way. Our babudum takes years to formulate any long term strategic goals. First of all other than kalam saar no body has or had vision in recent times. Yes JLN had vision of self sufficiency in Heavy Industry, Agriculture Education at the expense of defence. "Past is past" as Al bin Calling powers said during terror attacks on India after 9/11.

No there is no congruency between India and US in terms of strategic and long term relations especially under Obama.
Already polls are indicating that he should focus on US economy rather than war in Afghan. He is going to repeat Mission accomplished very soon if not on a carrier at least in a room which is airconditioned by carrier.

Raja Mohan is actually cautioning India not go gala gala with PRC lest we fall into Panchsheel trap and get our butt kicked.

At same time following his advice is beneficial to US. thats why I asked what is US willing to pay. Left unsaid in his article is the currency swap which is a bigger deal.

And also despite his being a KS disciple note he is not hedging unlike Shyam Saran who was quite serious about it.

Wonder what the dichotomy is ?

Indra Nooyi pitches for India-Pakistan dialogue: PTI
WASHINGTON: Indra K. Nooyi, India-born head of PepsiCo, on Thursday favoured talks between India and Pakistan, which she said were vital for the region’s economic growth.

Noting that the “troubled relations between India and Pakistan have consequences for the rest of the world, not just for those two countries,” {So India should stop just thinking of her national interests, and consider America's as well???} she told a gathering of Indian and U.S. corporate leaders that “we believe it is vital that India engage with its neighbours, follow a common market and create meaningful investment opportunities.”

A block away from the White House, Ms. Nooyi was addressing the inaugural session of the Synergies Summit of the U.S.-India Business Council.

Ms. Nooyi said “we all hope” that Pakistan could develop peacefully and democratically, and this was good for its people and neighbours.

“In this era in which technology and communication brings together politics and economies of distant nations, we are all connected.”

Arguing for a dialogue between India and Pakistan, she said: “That way if India can build on a mature benefit of shared prosperity, it can help to ensure that the delicate relationship between these two nations is maintained on a peaceful footing.” {Don't let terrorism come in the way! Don't upset the applecart}

But she reckoned that India could not do it alone; industry had a role to play.

Pakistan, along with protectionism and poverty, were the three issues that held the future for India. In all the three, industry could play a role, she said.

Praising the recent Lok Sabha elections, Ms. Nooyi said: “It is not my place to comment on Indian elections. But it would be safe to say that people in India voted for the integrity of a Prime Minister they trust, stability, and sustaining the wheel of development at this time of economic downturn.”
From wikipedia:
In June, 2005, she apologized for controversial remarks made at Columbia Business School, comparing America to a sort of global middle finger. "I have come to realize that my words and examples about America unintentionally depicted our country negatively and hurt people....I love America unshakably," Nooyi said.
Another Indian forced to see the world from American eyes! :(

FT had a small article pre-BRIC meet.

They interviewed a few Chinese. The Chinese (correctly) felt that China was too far ahead of India, clearly Russia was not in the conversation and Brazil was an after thought.

In that case G7 is a group with very wide variation in GDP as well. In terms of per capita, China might be behind Brazil and Russia.

In fact Canada's GDP is close to that of India. In PPP, India is already fourth.

Besides talk, I am pessimistic that any new initiative will come out from Obama/Clinton duo for India. The great breakthrough in US-India relationship of Bush Jr in the Nuclear Proliferation Treaty area to include India might not be replicated for quite some time. Clinton/Obama are beholden to China and Saudi Arabia and none of these nations will permit better US-India relationship, China especially. If Clinton is serious about what she says in 3.0 to provide India more global leadership authority, then the logical conclusion would be to make India part of the Security Council with full voting rights. That is putting meat behind the words. The rest of word puffery means nothing.

The other thing that India has to reconcile itself is that the US is going to stay in TSP for the long haul, come what may. This is part of their strategic objectives, does not matter whether Republican or Democrat, the CIA calls the shots on this one. No matter how dire the Army/ISI/People of TSP become, they will be overseen by papa/uncle US. China and US will collude with each other in TSP just to irk India. The only card India has is to persuade Russia wholeheartedly in its alliance against TSP. Of course the best outcome would be a breakup of TSP.

From the Iran experiment of voting, Saudi A and China must be feeling the heat of change sweeping the world. Saudi rulers must be squirming in their seats looking at Iran and its opposition rallies. The heat in Tibet needs to be turned up a notch for the Chinese.

Was the election of Bush Jr coincidental with the Proliferation problems of Pakistan, CTBT and growing Al Quida movement.

Aircraft with US military goods forced to land

Mumbai/New Delhi:

A cargo aircraft, allegedly carrying US military goods, was forced to land in Mumbai on Friday night after the Indian Air Force became suspicious that it was a military aircraft flying on a civilian code. The aircraft is Russian-made but was apparently leased to the US Air Force.

Travelling to Kandahar from Diego Garcia, a US military base, it had permission to fly over India as a civilian aircraft but the IAF found that, once in Afghan airspace, it would have its designation changed into one usually meant for military aircraft …..……....................

A slip, a fall and...... reality bites?

Hilary Clinton, had a slip and a fall recently. The fall has injured her hand and may even force her to cancel her trip to New Delhi. So that is about the fall.

But there was a slip too - from Obama in his intereview with Pakistani TV station Dawn. It was the way he slipped in about how India is a great friend of the US and so is Pakistan. It is back to eual-equal hyphenated days of Madeline Albright type moral equivalence by the USG.

That is where the reality bites. When cautioned about the sincerity of intent, when the nuke agreement was being negotiated, many in the Indian "intellegentia" condemned that as being a prisoner of the past.

George W Bush and his second term represented a clean break from the past, but that is now being reversed and it is back to the status quo of state department led marginilazation of India.

Shackled by a diminished vision, tied down by self doubts, the present Indian Administration is willing to accept "what is good for America is also good for India because we are strategic partners" line.

BTW, pepsico chief's comments are nothing out of the ordinary and is in line with what the thinking of an American CEO running an American multinational should be. Nothing to get worked up about.

Gentle Readers, should consider this sobering fact. Most of Indian CEOs of Indian companies seem to share the vision the GOI has for India - the Japan Model. Why only CEOs, many of the Indian "elite" have this opinion and want the Sensex and Nifty to surge rather than tensions with Pakistan.

So, there was a great speech by Hillary the other day and today we have equal equal stuff from Obama.
If he is pained by great friends fighting, he should stop selling arms to Pakistan which have been used by them against India, something he himself admitted during the campaign.

I go to my local Barnes & Nobles from time to time. I don't spend a penny buying any of the volumes and volumes of trash put out; except to browse over a star bucks coffee; and on one occasion, I skimmed the Madelin NotBright's book. She vehemently, unabashedly, advocates equal equal to the dot. She even recommended that no US president should visit India without visiting TSP. And she even went on to add that we must explain to our "Indian friends" why this is in mutual interest :-).

In and of itself its OK, but the problem with these elites is that they are mentally subjugated midgets and take the US view for granted. And in this view, TSP's provocations are "hostilities between India & TSP", and both should be goody goody boys.

According to the data in this article, North Korea’s exports to India ($161 million) are a non-trivial 17.5% of its total exports (assuming the 2007 number is approximately current and changes in inflation and exchange rates are trivial). The DPRK’s imports from India, $850 million in 2008 (according to the article), are a whopping 42% of North Korea’s estimated 2007 total imports. Either India is now one of the DPRK’s major trading partners, or there was a short-term spike in DPRK-India trading activity, or these numbers are fishy.

Mumbai, June 20: The US military plane loaded with arsenal which “inadvertently” entered Indian air space last night took off following diplomatic intervention, but defence officials are miffed at the crew’s initial insistence that it was a civilian aircraft.
...
“The decision to let them go was taken after the US embassy stepped in and senior diplomats got in touch with the external affairs ministry, saying the intrusion was an inadvertent mistake of the flight operator,” a senior intelligence official said.
...
But defence officials involved in the questioning of the crew are miffed.

“When seeking permission from the defence ministry, the aircraft identified itself as a civil plane on a charter operation. However, when applying to enter Pakistani airspace from India, it identified itself as a defence aircraft. Anyway, because of diplomatic intervention they were let off,” an air force source said.

Do you know what are the evidences to claim this? I know that this claim was made by Koreans few years back, but this could not be verified by local records in Ayodhya.
I have posted my thoughts on this in the Ancient battles of India thread, military forum....

If wishes were horses, I would like PM Manmohan Singh to say this 8) :

“I don’t think that we’ve been silent on the fact that the United States is a great friend of India and Iran is a great friend of India, and it always grieves us to see friends fighting. I believe that there are opportunities, maybe not starting with the Nuclear issue but starting with other issues, that the United States and Iran can be in a dialogue together and over time to try to reduce tensions and find areas of common interest. And we want to be helpful in that process, but I don’t think it’s appropriate for us to be the mediators in that process”

After saying that once ,PM Singh should say it all over again by substituting Cuba for Iran and Guantanamo for Nuclear issue  .
