Pakistan races to save its echendee in public.
Americans to land only in Islamabad
ISLAMABAD – Now Americans can land only on Benazir Bhutto Shaheed International Airport, Islamabad, as Government has banned other airports of the country for them.

A reliable source informed The Nation that unusual activities of Americans in Pakistan have forced the Government to take this decision and the arrest of five US nationals from Sargodha also played a key role in it.

Intelligence agencies have been reporting about increasing anger and agony against Americans among the general public, as the US nationals don’t abide by the laws. On many occasions, US nationals publicly didn’t abide the law of the state, as four times in Lahore and six times in Islamabad they were stopped on various police checkpoints and illegal weapons were recovered from them, but still they were allowed to move freely.
...

Again five arrested Americans during interrogations have revealed important information that is against Pakistan’s integrity and this was the main reason of this decision, the source disclosed.

Kinda disappointing how the daily fireworks tamasha in TSP seems to have cooled down to zero this past week. Heck, even the noble town of piss-shower reported only one soosai bum dhamaka with a mere 2 martyred or something.

US setting up permanent air base: JI
Rawalpindi

Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Friday said the United States is establishing a permanent air base in Jacobabad besides deployment of many Americans at Sehala Police Training Centre to monitor activities at nearby sensitive installations.

“The large scale construction activity is going on at Jacobabad airport for the last many months to establish a permanent US air base,”

Dr Kamal said that the JI central shoora members belonging to that area told the leadership that officers of Pakistan Army and Pakistan Air Force are also not allowed entering into the restricted area in Jacobabad. :((

Sihala is where one of Pakistan's unsafeguarded uranium centrifuges is located. This along with news reports that pakistan's uranium has been taken to the US for reprocessing and is no longer in pakistan's possession, makes one conclude that the Uranium centrifuge program is under lock and key.

Hari,

You are mistaken. There were two soosai bum-ers in Purushpura for a total score of 7 and 41 this last week:
Bum Hamla on Press Club
4 Shaheed in Soosai Hamla in Northwest Pakistan

When that score doesn't happen then see the actions of the Pakistani National Bird:
5 Shaheeds in NW

Happy now?

We see how well Pakistan continues to treat its remaining 3 or so (down from about 30% in 1947) minorities. And after this they have the gall to comment on Indian minorities. Musharraf will never forget the public snub from an Indian Muslim, but the pakis being pakis will continue moaning under heavy pressure..

Sindh Interior Minister: Pakistan was on brink of collapse after Benazir’s killing

Sindh Interior Minister Zulfiqar Mirza said that they wanted to break the country when Benazir Bhutto was killed but Asif Ali Zardari shouted the slogan of ‘Pakistan Khappay’ (what does khappay mean?), otherwise they had to come out of Nodairo shouting “Pakistan Na Khappay’.

Addressing a ceremony organised in Ratto Dairo to observe the 2nd death anniversary of Benazir Bhutto on Saturday, he said that people of Sindh wanted to break Pakistan after the killing of Benazir Bhutto but her husband Asif Ali Zardari proved that blood of the martyres would not go wasted. He revealed that he made a plan to hijack a plane to release Zulfiqar Bhutto from jail but he cancled his plan when Mumtaz Bhutto assured him that Saudi government will help release Zulfiqar Bhutto. He said that betrayers of Zulfiqar Bhutto are trying today to prove themselves as true companion of him but people know the reality.

Wah wah!
Netaji was involved in struggle movement earlier on, and is now a senior minister in pakistan!

Wasn't BB's brother, who was pest-e-shaheeded by K'rachi police, the one who had hijacked the plane to Kabul?

Of course Pakistan Khappey - the pakistan hit the fan.

I am suspecting that the Jihad-fi-safibillah army has struck some sort of clandestine deal with Jihad-Khullum-khulla TTP, that's the reason for almost no show for sometime. There was a report a few days back that PA is meeting US's surge in Afghanistan by sending the TTP's to fight in Afghanistan, this may be part of the TTP - TPA deal.

whenever i've heard the term "khappay" used, its usually been in the context of "want/need". So my translation would be:
"Pakistan na Khappay"= Pakistan not wanted

But it has interesting ring to it.

"Khappay" in marathi (marathwada) and may be even in hindi...is like "bhaad"...like in "bhaad me jaaye".

In a crude marathi ...one would say..kutha khaplas re to ask where the hell did you go? or Kahan mar gaya or kahan bhaad me gaya?. Folks can correct me if I am wrong.

That's because the blood money's been paid up by the IMF. Wait till the next tranche is due or more is demanded by the purelanders.

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s foreign exchange reserves are expected to shoot up to $14.92 billion by the end of December with the disbursement of $1.2 billion by the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

Karachi Blast
For those who were experiencing withdrawal syndrome.

Car bomb wounds 19 in Pakistan's commercial capital

KARACHI (Reuters) – A bomb in Pakistan's commercial capital Karachi wounded at least 19 people on Saturday, police said, in an apparent attack on Shi'ite Muslims ahead of one of their most important mourning rituals. The explosion took place outside a Shi'ite Muslim gathering just before the start of Ashura, the Shi'ite calendar's biggest event, which has become a flashpoint for deadly attacks by Sunni militants over recent years.

"It looks like a remote controlled or a time device as the blast took place along the roadside," he told Reuters. Police suspected earlier that it was a car bomb.

Strat reporting: Pakistan: Five Killed In Tribal Region Clash

December 26, 2009
At least five people were killed and two injured in a gun battle between the banned Lashkar-e-Islam and Ansar-ul-Islamgroups in the Terah valley in northwest Pakistan’s Khyber Agency, Xinhua reported Dec. 26. Sources said supporters of both groups used light and heavy weaponry to target their rivals’ bunkers.

I am not so sure you are right about the marathi version of Khappey. Tela khap le nahi, means that did not work out for him, suit him etc. So Pakistan Khapey could mean "Pakistan works out for them, is fine for them etc?"

Sure as hell I hope so because you don't want them doing a BD on us and coming across in the millions at the IB with nothing to lose, wimmens childrens etc.

I am really surprised that people are discussing so much on Khappay!

I am a Sindhi myself and I can confirm that Khappay means 'needed/wanted' in Sindhi. So he meant- 'Pakistan is needed'.

Its called hedging one's bet. With Bhutto history of fratricide/patricide/matricide and all, who can tell. Then there's the in-breeding factor one has to allow for.

The ISI had always employed two strategies to manage the groups it creates:
  1. It splits them when they reach a critical mass
  2. It pits one against the other

Mangal Bagh's Lashkar-e-Islam and Maulana-Qazi-Mehboob-ul-Haq's Ansar-ul-Islam are also managed in a similar way. They both operate in the same Khyber Agency and vie with each other for prominence. Mangal Bagh is far more powerful.

Ban imposed on speeches by Indian Zakireen
ASSHFAQULLAH SHAWL
ISLAMABAD (December 26 2009): Federal Interior Minister Rehman Malik said that the Interior Ministry has imposed ban on speeches of Indian Zakireen, Shia Ulema in Pakistan during the month of Muharram-ul-Harram. "Zakireen, Ulema and scholars hailing from India would not be allowed to make public speeches as I have already taken people at the helm of affairs into confidence", Malik said while talking to media here on Friday.

He also urged Ulema belonging to Sunni school of thoughts to cooperate with establishing of mourning gatherings and processions so that no untoward incident like that of Saeen Butta imambargah could be repeated again in future. Rehman Malik also informed that he had requested people to reduce the number of procession and majalis to be held in the memory of Karbala, so that government could better manage its security.

Malik again called upon Afghanistan to take measures for the immediate end of cross border terrorism, saying that despite heavy deployment of foreign troops Afghan government has failed to curb terrorism and block the movement of terrorists and armaments to Pakistan.

Avoided ‘Pakistan Na Khapay’ slogan due to Zardari: Zulfiqar

Sindh Home Minister Dr. Zulfiqar Mirza has said we were much more determined to chant slogan of ‘Pakistan Na Khapay’ – No need of Pakistan, following assassination of former PM Benazir Bhutto but we deliberately opted otherwise just because of President Asif Ali Zardari.

“Former president Musharraf dubbed Sindhi people as ineligible community but today! a Sindhi has replaced him.”

We are forced to tolerate what we would have never borne if president Asif Ali Zardari were not promoting the politics of reconciliation.”

This is the difference in corruption levels between India and Pakistan. Although India has a much much bigger economy than pakistan, Indian bureaucrats and Politician kids go to school and college mostly in India, with a few going overseas for higher college level education.

Contrast this with Pakistan, where the RAPE and the politicians and bureaucrats' kids are:
1. Mostly born in foreign lands so as to hold dual citizenship (Easy for abbajaan to abandon leaky-rusted ship if it starts to sink)
2. Are educated overseas right from school level from corruption money.
3. Return back from Phoreign and try and apply phoreign standards and falsetto phoreigh accents to a horribly backward country and try and make good money, the way abbajaan was making his corruption money.

Zardari/PPP has expertly played the Sindh card and thus totally stymied the SC/Kiyani/Pakjabi juggernaught. Only last week arrest warrants were flying all over and ministers were being grounded left & right. Rehman Malik was supposed to arrest himself, and seemed like Zardari was headed for the lamppost. But only a slight hint of "Pakistan na khapay" from PPP quarters have quited things down. Instead it is the SC/CJ who is put under extra "security"!

The Indians are coming! Help!

Extract: Can we do more? The Indian army has 6,384 tanks in its inventory (as none of those Indian tanks can cross the Himalayas into China so Arjun MBTs must all be for Pakistan). The Indian air force has 672 combat aircraft. The Indian army's XV, IX, XVI, XIV, XI and X corps are all pointing their guns towards Pakistan. Indian army's 4th Armoured Division, 12th Infantry Division, 340th Mechanised Brigade and 4th Armoured Brigade have been deployed to cut Pakistan into two halves. The Pakistan army, thus, has no choice but to defend -- defend they must -- Pakistan's eastern border.

Grow up, and smell the coffee ---- Irfan Hussain wrote:More often than not, children are intensely self-absorbed, caring little for the needs of those around them. Similarly, our well-to-do tend not to think about the rest of their countrymen, focusing only on their immediate families. And when they do give to charity, they are concerned only about how their alms will buy them a place in heaven. Partly as a consequence of this callousness, poverty continues to stalk the land. Illiteracy, hunger and disease are endemic. Nevertheless, enclaves of obscenely ostentatious wealth flourish amidst a vast ocean of poverty.

Faced with harsh reality, many kids escape into fantasy. We, too, continue nursing dreams of a united Muslim ummah that would be able to take on the hated West. In Pakistan, various extremist groups are committed to restoring Muslim rule over the entire subcontinent.

But while individuals can indulge in daydreams, nations do so at their own peril. So wake up and smell the coffee. Above all, let’s please try and grow up.

There go the billions in transit fees
http://dailytimes.com.pk/default.asp?page=2009\12\27\story_27-12-2009_pg7_2

Extract: India has almost shelved the tri-nation Iran-Pakistan-India (IPI) gas pipeline project, linking its lack of progress to the political problems with Islamabad.

“The main hurdle is Pakistan. All other issues are minor which can be resolved very easily,” The Asian Age newspaper quoted government sources as saying on Saturday.

Experts say any substantial progress on the pipeline project now looks bleak unless political issues with Pakistan are resolved.

The screws are being turned, slowly & one thread at a time.

Across the border in Pakistan, where American commandos are not permitted to operate, the Central Intelligence Agency has stepped up its missile strikes by Predator and Reaper drones on groups like the Haqqani network.

But an official with Pakistan's main spy agency, the Inter-Services Intelligence directorate, or I.S.I., said there had also been more than 60 joint operations involving the I.S.I. and the C.I.A. in the Federally Administered Tribal Areas and Baluchistan in the past year.

The official said the missions included "snatch and grabs" -- the abduction of important militants -- as well as efforts to kill leaders. These operations were based on intelligence provided by either the United States or Pakistan to be used against the Taliban and Al Qaeda, the official said.
