AQ Khan displays his love and affection for mushy:
‘Musharraf passed atomic information to US’
Nuclear scientist Dr Abdul Qadeer Khan has expressed his firm conviction that former military ruler Pervez Musharraf had transferred very sensitive information relating to Pakistan’s atomic programme to the US.

Dr Khan said he was ready to record the facts before the court of law.Talking to this correspondent he confirmed the contents of the recent Washington Post story and said these were drawn from the copy of his letter, which he addressed to his wife and handed over to his daughter Dr Dina Khan in 2004 as a precautionary measure when she was leaving for Dubai. The letter had ultimately landed at Musharraf’s table after being recovered from the baggage of his daughter.

...

The nation must know that national secrets were handed over to Washington by the former president who was an American stooge, he said. He said the nation knew well who its well-wisher was.

...

It may be recalled that the letter published by the Washington Post leads to information, which proves that China helped Pakistan in the initial stages of Pakistan’s atomic programme. On the contrary, Dr Khan had started mutual cooperation by briefing the Chinese officials with regard to the European centrifuges. The letter leads to the conviction that every thing was done for the mutual interest. The letter discloses that uranium hexafluoride (UF6) was procured in return for invertors, valve flow metres, pressure gauges and other machines. After being self sufficient in 1982, Pakistan offered to return the same but the Chinese were gracious enough having asked to retain them as gift. The letter that appeared in the Washington Post is also significant because therein Dr Khan had quoted people who were alive as against accusations that he always referred to the people who were dead.

He told this correspondent that a comprehensive strategy against him and Pakistan’s atomic programme had been drawn at a secret meeting between Musharraf and former CIA director George Tenet at a hotel in New York on Sept 24, 2003. It was the meeting which both of them in their books had referred to. It is interesting that many assertions made by them are conflicting with one another.{Fat chance, after all the GUBO in that 'meeting' there was no time left to talk about anything else :rotfl: }

Musharraf claimed to have recognised the Pakistani P-1 Centrifuge design shown by George and told him that it was the same manufactured under Dr Khan’s supervision. Dr Khan said these sketches were sealed in 1982-83 and at that time Musharraf had no access even up to the threshold of Kahuta plant.

Khan demanded inquiry and trial against Musharraf and his coterie. It is an open secret that Musharraf had deep-rooted contacts with Israel and God knows how many secrets he had transferred to them.

...

Dr Khan said he was a resident of Bhopal in India and had opted to migrate to Pakistan, dedicated his life to the country and pledged to serve Ummah. How could a person with such plans become a traitor? :((

It may be recalled that Dr Khan had always been a sour{I didn't say 'soouar' the writer of this piece did} in the eyes of the US, India, Israel and some European countries because he had openly stated why atomic programme in Muslim world was condemned when European nations were carrying forward jointly the same. {Its a YYYY conspiracy onlee. The yropeans are also involved :(( }Why Pakistan was not allowed to sign atomic agreements when the US had been doing the same. He had a clear vision that atomic program should be aimed at maintaining balance of power in the world and doing away with one-sided persecutions. However, under the current circumstances he had been devoting solely to issues pertaining to health, education and other developmental projects.

Fazlullah claims he has escaped to Afghanistan
PESHAWAR: Swat Taliban leader Maulana Fazlullah on Tuesday claimed that he had safely crossed over to Afghanistan.

The BBC Urdu Service said the Maulana phoned its Peshawar reporter Abdul Hai Kakar to claim that he was in Afghanistan and that his fighters would soon start guerrilla attacks against security forces in Swat.

The report said Fazlullah read a written statement while speaking from a mobile phone having Afghanistan code. The signal wasn’t clear, probably due to the fact the he was in some remote mountainous area.

Fazlullah threatened that NWFP Information Minister Mian Iftikhar Hussain, who is in the forefront in condemning the Taliban, would meet the same fate as late Afghan president Dr Najibullah. It may be recalled that Dr Najibullah was shot dead and then hanged, along with hisyounger brother Ahmadzai, in Kabul’s Aryana Square by the Afghan Taliban on September 27, 1996 on the day they captured the city.

...

“It’s next to impossible to take a crippled man, if we are to believe the government version, from Swat to Afghanistan. Even if he hasn’t lost any of his limbs, crossing over to Afghanistan for a person like Fazlullah is difficult because he would have to go through Dir and Bajaur’s Momand area to enter the neighbouring country. He can be spotted, particularly when escorted by a group of people,” former ambassador to Afghanistan Rustam Shah Mohmand told The News.

...

Former secretary security Fata Brig (retd) Mahmood Shah said his escape to Afghanistan was the failure of security forces. “It would be a great embarrassment for Pakistani and Afghan security forces if Fazlullah has crossed over,” he said.

However, he doubted that whether he had gone to the neighbouring country. “Some mobile SIMs of Afghanistan work in border areas of Pakistan so it doesn’t prove he is on other side of the border,” he said. He also questioned as to whether the person who talked to the BBC was really Fazlullah. Mahmood Shah said he didn’t think Fazlullah had gone to Afghanistan and argued he might have orchestrated this drama to find an excuse for their failure to continue their activities in Swat.

“Neither Fazlullah could run an organisation from Afghanistan nor the Afghan Taliban will allow him to do so,” Rustam Shah said and hastened to add that Fazlullah might be asked to either fight against the Nato forces or peacefully live in the southern part of that country.

Benazir’s murder: UN panel quizzes Musharraf
Wednesday, November 18, 2009
UNITED NATIONS: The UN commission, probing into the assassination of Benazir Bhutto, has interviewed former president Pervez Musharraf in connection with the ongoing inquiry, sources said on Tuesday.

The meeting with Musharraf, which was extensive, took place on last Friday, the sources said. He was questioned about the security provided to Benazir after her return to the country in October 2007, the sources said.

Musharraf was also quizzed about the subsequent events, including the inquiries conducted into the tragic event on December 27, 2007, days before the country was to hold general elections. The sources said the commission was satisfied with the level of cooperation it received from Musharraf.

Milli-brain applies his brain to do some work [posting in full because it is a small article]
Miliband seeks more support for Pakistan
Wednesday, November 18, 2009
Says Taliban will play role in Afghan govt
EDINBURGH: British Foreign Secretary David Miliband on Tuesday called on more support for Pakistan to help “squeeze the life out of the terrorist threat from both sides of the Afghanistan-Pakistan border.”

Addressing a meeting of Nato’s parliamentary assembly, Miliband said ending the war in Afghanistan would include senior Taliban commanders sitting in the government in Kabul. He said military action must be accompanied by a political surge to restore the Afghans’ faith in their corruption-scarred government.

Miliband said the vast majority of Taliban fighters were not committed to a global Jihad and could be persuaded to stop fighting. He said a settlement must also include those top Taliban commanders prepared to renounce violence.

“Once reintegration gains momentum, and the insurgency is starting to fray or crumble, we will need to support President (Hamid) Karzai in reaching out to those high-level commanders that can be persuaded to renounce al-Qaeda and pursue their goals peacefully within the constitutional framework,” Miliband said.

“This will be far from straightforward. But the historical lessons are clear. Blood enemies from the Soviet period and the civil war now work together in government. Former Taliban already sit in parliament. It is essential that, when the time is right, members of the current insurgency are encouraged to follow suit.” Miliband added that Afghanistan was not “a war without end.”

Pak to hike its defence budget, but fails to feed its people
Islamabad, November 17: Pakistan's defence spending is bound to be increased over the budgetary allocation for the current fiscal due to the ongoing war on terror, Finance Minister Shaukat Tarin has said.

...

Pakistan had agreed during talks with the International Monetary Fund to increase its revenue collection target from Rs 1,380 billion to Rs 1,396 billion because of higher than expected security expenditure, he said.

Answering a query about increasing the salaries of the armed forces from 2010, Tarin said the army had raised this issue with the government and justified the pay hike by saying that its personnel were sacrificing their lives by fighting extremists.

He said Pakistan expected to get USD 1.2 billion from the IMF by December after the approval of the executive board of the fund.

Anyone remembers the daily PTV news bulletins on the "Atrocities of Indian forces in Indian held Kashmir"?

This is usually the second headline and a 3 minute news story in EVERY pakistani government (PTV or Pakistan Radio) news program and has been on for the last 20 odd years.

The news always seemed to say that the "Indian forces had speeded up their atrocities in held kashmir" I used to wonder how could someone speed up further from the previous day, and that to day after day for 20 years and counting? Sometimes I used to feel that the newscasters would rattle off that news even without the teleprompter or any ISI diktat for the daily casualty numbers. These kashmir news would stop suddenly for a few days when PTV would be off air, every time there was a coup in that country, then again resume as soon as the new dictator stabilized.

The same thing is happening wrt to the fight against the taliban.

The pakistanis will rachet up reports of how new evidence is accumulating day by day, their gullible media will go overboard and claim newer and more dramatic things until the people of pakistan will be treated to the news one fine day that India's PM was giving away soosai vests to the next batch to soosai bummer in a passing out ceremony at the indian embassy in isloo - as the final piece of clinching evidence that paksitan has got to prove the YYY hand.

That is about when the common abdul there will start to question why doesn't pakistan do something about it hain ji? And that will be the point when someone with half a brain left in that country will question the whole YYY angle.

Till that happens, the pakistani propaganda chaps are on solid ground with plenty of leeway to spin yarn after yarn.

Get your popcorn and beers out, the accusations are just about to take off

The letter states that the TTP has procured 200 litres of poisonous material that would be used to contaminate water sources and reservoirs in the wards falling under RCB and CCB limits. However, the TTP in its letter has not intimated the time frame i.e. time and date of implementing the threat. :(( Through the letter, the RCB and CCB officials (as well as obviously the government) have been threatened to stop the military operation in South Waziristan, sources claimed.

Now this is important news, because apparently there is a new conspiracy theory in pakistan that NWFP deliberately announces seperate dates for islamic festivals than the rest of pakistan, as the first steps to secede. NWFP's dates mostly co-incide with those of KSA rather than pakistan causing much heartburn in pakistan.

Zilhaj moon not sighted in NWFP, announces unofficial Ruet-e-Hilal
Wednesday, November 18, 2009
PESHAWAR: The unofficial Ruet-e-Hilal Committee, met at Masjid Qasim Ali Khan Tuesday here in Peshawar, announced the moon of Zilhajj lunar month was not sighted; accordingly, the first of the month will fall on Thursday (November 19) and Eidul Adha would be celebrated on November 28.

The unauthorized Ruet-e-Hilal Committee held its meeting at Peshawar’s historic mosque Qasim Ali Khan chaired by Professor Khairul Bashar.

...

On the directive by the provincial government, the members of zonal Hilal Committee held meeting, which also passed consensus decision that moon was not sighted.

It's the stupidity, stupid ( How dare he Insult Pakistaniat =Islam by imposing logic )
Zaa fir Kha lidh Farooq

http://thenews.jang.com.pk/daily_detail.asp?id=209348
We are a nation that unquestionably swallows the unsubstantiated rants of Zaid Hamid, Ahmed Quraishi and their ilk. Zaid Hamid sees the world through a Zionist prism, while I advise you to check out ahmedquraishi.com to check out the quality of his 'photo journalism'.

We are a nation where pop stars like Ali Azmat believe that "we know for a fact that all this turbulation (not a world, Ali) in Pakistan it's not us, but outside hand" and who says that the Taliban is not responsible for blowing up 200 girls schools, but it's the work of an unidentified foreign hand. Show me the evidence, Ali? Where are the 'facts' you talk about?

Ironically, it is these very people who hark back the loudest, and bemoan the most, the loss of the Islamic world's glory days -- when Muslims were pioneers at the forefront of scientific, architectural, astronomical, and mathematical advances in the world. But you only can be pioneers when using knowledge, reason, logic and a factually supporting argument. The Taj Mahal was not built on a conspiracy theory or by obtaining a forged website doctoral degree. Yet, we listen to and follow the stupid?

Another classic one from the above article

How's this for a conspiracy theory: Perhaps, the Jews, Americans and Indians are funding all these cranks, right-wing conspiracy theorists, hyper nationalist and loonies that populate the airwaves in Pakistan :D . By listening to their claptrap and proportioning blame to hidden hands, the Pakistani people remain in perpetual denial about the encroaching problems in their country, therefore causing further erosion of the state. Maybe, THIS IS the evil Zionist, Capitalist, Hindu plot to destroy Pakistan. They are keeping us dumb and stupid. Pappu yaar, have you thought about that?

Par for the course for people who constantly accuse each other of being foriegn agents.

Ex-Military Officer in Pakistan Is Linked to 2 Chicago Terrorism Suspects (NY Times)

The arrests last month of two Chicago men accused of planning an attack on a Danish newspaper have widened into a global terrorism inquiry that has led to arrests in Pakistan and implicated a former Pakistani military officer as a co-conspirator, government officials said Wednesday.
John Theis, a lawyer for Mr. Headley, and Patrick W. Blegen, a lawyer for Mr. Rana, would not comment on who was suspected of being the co-conspirator or other matters in the case.
A spokesman for the Pakistani Embassy here also declined to comment, citing the continuing inquiry.
The officials declined to name the other former military officer in the case, who is suspected as a co-conspirator. He is said to have recently left the Pakistani Army and held the rank of colonel or brigadier general, higher ranks than Mr. Kashmiri held.
One official who has been briefed on the investigation said that Pakistani authorities had arrested as many as five other people in connection with the plot in recent weeks, including some former or current Pakistani military officials.

Crisis in confidence, Pakistan continues to lag behind India: Experts

Washington, Nov.18 (ANI): American experts analysing the latest developments in South Asia are of the view that by all yardsticks, Pakistan continues to lag behind India, and add that this crisis of identity is dangerously close to settling permanently into the Pakistani mind.

Participating in a university panel discussion here recently that was moderated by former US Assistant Secretary of State for South Asia, Karl F Inderfurth, Dr. Dr. Daniel Markey, senior fellow for India, Pakistan and South Asia in the Council on Foreign Relations (CFR), and Dr. Stephen P. Cohen, senior fellow for foreign policy at the Brookings Institution, and Dr. Ashley J. Tellis, senior associate (South Asia Program) at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, were of the unanimous view that Pakistan faced enormous political, diplomatic and military challenges.

With the first anniversary of the 26/11terror strike on Mumbai around the corner, Dr. Markey said that: "The Indians realize that Pakistan is danger of falling apart, and that this could be more of a threat to them than a direct conventional military confrontation."

He further warned that spasms of violence targeted at India would continue, and the United States was unsure about India practicing restraint if another Mumbai like incident happens.

Dr. Markey also expressed the view that Pakistan has realized that it cannot compete with India, given the doubts that exists in the international community on key issues such as the relationship between the executive and the omnipresent military leadership, the concern over the safety and safeguarding of its nuclear arsenal from both terrorists and insurgents, the perceived unpopularity of President Asif Ali Zardari and the outcome of the military offensive in Waziristan.

On Pakistan's nuclear arsenal, Markey said that the worry for Washington was that they were too close to where terrorists have set up their camps.

Emphasizing that it as paramount for Pakistan to have a capable and credible civilian government to ensure its survival as a modern Islamic state, Markey said current indicators suggested that this is far from achievable at present.

He said there was no doubt in the minds of Pakistanis about the unpopularity of President Zardari, but the greater worry or concern is that: "This unpopularity could turn into fragility, weakness and it may look like he may fall in the near future."

The corruption and ineffectiveness of the PPP, he said is responsible for growing Pakistani dissent.

The current scenario prevailing in Pakistan also suggested that there has been a falling out between President Zardari and Pakistan's Chief of Army Staff, General Asfaq Pervez Kayani.

Commenting on the Waziristan operations, Markey reiterated that while the Pakistani army has been saying that the operations are a success, "no independent media outlet on the ground" has been able to provide evidence to support this claim. This is because the news media is banned."

"We (Americans) have very little confidence with the follow operations after the clean up is happening. If the territory will be held and keep the militants away. In essence they are weeds that will be mowed away but will come back," he added.

On his part, Cohen re-emphasized the view that: "The army cannot govern Pakistan, but wont let anyone else govern it."

He said that even after more than 60 years of Pakistan being independent, the army remains central to its future.

While admitting that former President-General Pervez Musharraf was "ill competent", Cohen said his intentions insofar as Pakistan's interests were concerned, were well meaning.

As far as Waziristan was concerned, he said both the government and the military brass have invested a lot in terms of public relations, but "we do not know what is happening on the ground." By Ishaan Prakash (ANI)

No it is a perfectly natural demand to follow the various demands that Indians make in India. A Muslims demand is no worse and no better. Let it come up. It will be dealt with under the constitution. What India needs are wake up calls like 1962, Kargil and Mumbai. Demands for a separate state for Muslims, for Dalits and for anyone else should serve as good wake up calls that need to be attended to while you siphon out 1400 crores from the country. I am all for it. I don't think the country needs to be especially afraid of any such demand.

TB: Oh sure. But they took us for a ride during the Soviet War, too. They feel they're experts at playing us for suckers.

Good article. Found it very amusing; India's reply after the bomb. :rotfl:

Nothing beats this though

TB: It's not clear Pakistan's military can survive without our subsidies—it's a bankrupt country. One of the things for us to tell Pakistan is that we may not want to get involved in this directly, but we want to see this problem solved. And in this the US is probably neutral, because there's no constituency in the United States that's keen on Kashmir one way or the other. Most people don't even know where it is.

I think it has got something to do with the fact that the main hospital in Piss-hour is called "Lady Reading" hospital. After all Talibunnies dont like ladies reading, so they must first change the name of the hospital or it will be kept busy...

Suppiah, the notion of Pakistan started off with a similar demand for a Muslim province within India and ultimately resulted in the monster that we see today. People who do not want to practise inclusivism and who are bent on practising exclusivism will make increasingly atrocious demands once the initial concession is given, the appeasement of which will destroy the Union of States. That is why many people oppose the continuation of Article 370 which militates against the principles of Indian nationhood.

MQM backs ANP proposal to change Pak name
Wednesday, November 18, 2009

He said the ANP gave this proposals to the Committee for Constitutional Reforms that Pakistan’s name be changed from Islamic Republic of Pakistan to People’s Republic of Pakistan.

When Pakistan was less fundamentalist, less extremists and less sectarian, a powerful Army ruler going by the name of Field Marshal Ayub Khan HP, HJ, tried to drop the 'Islamic' prefix but was forced to reinstate that later.

What is this, a consignment of HEU or Plutonium from PRC or missiles from North Korea that 'arrangements will have to be made to receive the dossier' ? It is after all a piece of paper within a manila cover.

It was an ad-hoc process in the past. Now that it is clear that dossiers will need to be recieved in future, a bit of formalization will make it efficient/clear etc. There have been denials in some cases which had to be retracted. It is all in the greater common good.

Where in the text does he do that?
The last paragraph quoted in bold does not mean it is call by M J Akbar. It talks about Ajit Singh's concept of Harit Desh in western UP which has muslim-majority. If the idea reaches conclusion then it might be muslim-majority state.

Why is this little mining town in the US inviting disaster ?
Granite Falls residents are suspicious of any newcomers, let alone a native of Pakistan who moved to this rugged, blue-collar mining town to open his own bar. But 54-year-old Haroon Saleem has thrived, winning over the town with hard work and an easy smile. He has become so popular that, on November 3, he won the mayor’s job in a landslide, getting 61 percent of the more than 800 votes cast –a result that residents say would have been inconceivable not long ago.
