Re: Independence Day Wishes !!!
Sri Aurobindo - 15th August, 1947 :
“India today became free but she has not achieved Unity… The old communal division into Hindus and Muslims seems now to have hardened into permanent political division of the country. It is hoped that this settled fact will not be accepted as settled forever, as anything more than a temporary expedient. For if it lasts, India may be seriously weakened, even crippled; civil strife may remain always possible, possible even a new invasion and foreign conquest. India’s internal development and prosperity may be impeded, her position among nations weakened, her destiny impaired or even fractured. This must not be; the Partition must go. By whatever means, in whatever way, the division must go; unity must and will be achieved, for it is necessary for the greatness of the India’s future”
But then Aurobindo is in the past and technically speaking he lived in the past - for present times. It is anti-Indian to live in the past unless it serves institutionally or state approved purposes. We have already redeemed our tryst with destiny even on 15th August, 1947, so we are probably required to forget about that small bit left out in the not-wholly-or-in-full-measure redemption, and be glad with the very substantially redeemed part onlee. Anyway reminder of that acknowledgement of not-wholly is also living in the past and is anti-Indian perhaps.
Should you be saying Jai Hind or rather say Jai Ho - which sounds more secular?
Let the wishing be sobered by remembering in a brief ovation in slience to all those Bharatyias who sacrificed their lives, their careers, their family, their bodies and all their hopes for a free India, or from whom their tears, their lives and their bodies were taken away by the Partition - and thanking the great first prime minister of India for immortalizing in that speech that this freedom is only partial and not a full redemption of our pledge. As Anna Scott says in NottingHill - newspapers are forever - that story is going to be filed - and brought out everytime anyone write anything about him and Indepndence of India.
Jai Bharat.

Great day! Great people! Great cultures! Great nation! One has to be proud of this country!
India a country where many religions, races and tribes can live together in a peaceful and democratic ways. Let India grow in her development. Let India be a country which can show to the world that in spite of billions of people they can eliminate poverty, they can make this world towards industrial and intellectual and healthy growth for all human beings. She may also be able to help her neighbouring countries to grow both in peace and development.

Re: Independence Day Wishes !!!
Even from afar,
I salute thee my Motherland,
My chest swells up with emotion,
Tears come to my eyes.
Those of us who toil on foreign shores,
Do not forget us,
We watch with misty eye
Longing thoughts.
The glory that can be ours,
The work that needs to be done.
Enough of blaming,
Finger pointing.
It's time for work,
The world will be ours
But not as predestined
To earn bit by bit.
Guess hearing Jana Gana Mana made me kind of senti. Anyway, Swatantrata Divas Ke Shubh Kamnaiye. Jai Hind.

Happy Independence Day to all! Lets not forget all those who gave up their lives to make India what it is today and all those on guard on our borders/airports etc while we celebrate and watch TV or have a nice meal with the family.

Re: Independence Day Wishes !!!
Please take a few minutes to read about this 103 year old man
An ardent follower of Gandhi, Gurusami devoted his prime to freedom movement and as a result, never married. He participated in numerous agitations and was arrested more than once. “Looking back now, I find it difficult to believe that I walked with a legend like the Mahatma. I have spoken with him on four different occasions and I am glad I have touched his feet,” he says with veneration in his voice. . . . “Satyagraha was instrumental in abolishing fear in Indians. It boosted self- belief to defy the British. The police were stunned at the fortitude of the people, who continued despite being beaten up.”
A day spent in the company of Netaji, walking alongside Vinoba Bhave and participating in the Swadeshi and Bhoodan movements are the highlights of his life.
“On the night of August 14, no one slept. Every house had a lamp burning through the night. Some of us assembled in the Perambalur Taluk office by midnight. We were all waiting with the radio turned on to listen to Nehru declare our independence. When Nehru hoisted the flag in Delhi, great tumult broke out. People were shouting, ‘we are free, we are free.’ We went from village to village, hoisting the national flag.”
“That day people waited for hours to hoist the national flag."
Wrinkled but steadfast, his quaint eyes that hold the wisdom of a Century, await the coming of yet another Independence Day. And we salute him on this occasion tomorrow!

HAPPY INDEPENDENCE DAY TO ALL MY FELLOW INDIANS
Hope we shall grow from strength to strength as a nation rising above narrow linguistic, religious, ideological and class distinctions and realize that we are Indians first .

A big thank you to our internal and external security agencies and forces for ensuring a safe and peaceful Independence day.
It's been a holiday and a day of celebration and outings for everyone, but for the police - it's been a hectic day. May they be blessed by release from cycles of birth and death.

Happy Independence to All.
The midnight speech brings on memories, both happy and sad.
Also, thank you to the poster for providing the translation from Sri Aurobindo of Vande Mataram. I just read it to my kids.
