from the prj seabird link
In 2008, Admiral Wu Shengli, the first Chinese navy chief to visit India, called at Karwar. Most visitors are restricted to administrative buildings and non-classified facilities.
mm.. Shengli is more lucky than sudh desi aam admiyos to even glimpse some building that is classified.

I don't know, but how inefficient we are to the lives of thousands of Indians working in Arab nations. We should have deployed this assets with the onset of Tunisian uprising. Now it will take atleast more then two weeks to reach libya, even Air evacuation is very difficult task given its limitation. We are really falling short on Air Transport aircraft to evacute close of 18000 indians stuck in hostile Libya.
We need to buy the USS Nashville as well...The fact that these assets can be used for evacuating large population is worth the price. With the evacuation of Indians from Libya ( 1,500 at given time) the $50 million spent on INS Jalashwa is money well spent. CAG needs to eat the crow on this one.

I am senior, don't ignore me for top job, Navy commander tells govt
outhern Naval Commander Vice Admiral K N Sushil has filed a statutory complaint with the Defence Ministry stating his claim to become chief of Indian Navy's sword arm, the Western Navy -- after the present incumbent Vice Admiral Sanjeev Bhasin retires next month -- should not be overlooked as he would be the seniormost commander after the Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Nirmal Verma.

Government sources said Sushil filed the statutory complaint to the Defence Ministry via Naval Headquarters as he feels the government may appoint Vice Admiral D K Joshi, who is in line to become the next Navy Chief, as the Western Naval Commander. Admiral Joshi is presently chief of Integrated Defence Staff (CISC) in Delhi.

If this was not enough, Joshi's deputy and batchmate Vice Admiral Shekhar Sinha has already represented before the government that he should be considered for a commander-in-chief posting.
While Vice Admiral Sushil has not addressed his complaint against any particular officer, chances of Vice Admiral Joshi of succeeding Vice Admiral Sanjeev Bhasin on April 30, 2011 could be hit. The Naval Headquarters was planning to give Joshi the western navy experience and then move him over to the Naval Headquarters as Chief after the present incumbent retires on August 31, 2012.

They indeed have made minimal changes to the ship , perhaps the only major change will be Brahmos replacing Klub. Probably IN is happy with Talwar class performance and does not want to do major changes when it works well, the logic why break when it works , is valid for software and IN :)
hopefully during MLUs in 10 yrs most current IN ships will replace the Shtil with Barak8 to beef up AA power.
Adding Barak8 would mean drastic changes in superstructure to add Elta 2048 and replace the Fregat-M , that is a long call , not to mention the internal changes that would be needed in terms of power ,C&C and integration with Russian system.

As seen with other IN ships they just go through incremental upgrades over period of time with the soft part like EW,ECM seeing changes.

Not necessarily a bad idea. While the Americans would be tight fisted with technology, I'd love to a see a three way competition between the Astute class, Barracuda class and Yasen class instead. They'd be a better option for a undersea complement to the IN's three carrier battlegroups than the Arihant class SSBNs (which would typically sail solo). $11 billion would buy over any reluctance to sell nuclear powered equipment. And if wishes were sports cars, I'd be zipping around in an Aston Martin.

In Asia’s arc of fire, sail of a naval Blossom Delhi sends potent flotilla
When the Indian Navy pulled out the INS Jalaswa, the second-largest warship in its fleet, from its biggest wargames called Tropex 2011 and assigned it to the Mediterranean this week, military headquarters in South Block had quietly taken up an unprecedented and ambitious operation.

It is called Operation Blossom.
:
:
But Op Blossom could well mark the emergence of the Indian Navy in the eyes of the US and Nato forces as the maritime force of the future in the Indian Ocean region, despite China’s bigger and, possibly more powerful, resources.

The aspect was discussed at the Annual General Meeting of INBA (Indian Naval Benevolent Association) and NGIS (Naval Group Insurance Scheme). The meeting was held at Southern Naval Command, Naval Base Kochi on 4th March.
The Association sanctions loans to officers and sailors for house repairs and marriages of daughter and to sailors only for medical expenses and higher education. The association allows not more than two loans for daughter/sister’s marriage subject to overall limit of five loans in entire career and age should be more than 18 years. The current loan amount is Rs 50,000/- for officer and Rs 40,000/- for sailor.
Give the military veterans their due

Britain offers Indian Navy Eurofighters while our own carriers go without
Advanced Typhoon jet fighters turned down by Britain’s defence chiefs to save money are being offered to the INDIAN navy.

It means a foreign country which receives £280million a year of UK aid could end up with a better seaborne air force.

The MoD rejected a new state-of-the art maritime version of the Typhoon by British arms manufacturer BAE Systems.

So last month BAE tried to secure sales by showing off a mock-up of the plane at the Aero India show in Bangalore.

The firm even painted Indian military insignia on the wings and showed simulated film of it landing on an Indian carrier.

Defence minister Lord Astor said: “A navalised Typhoon was rejected on grounds of cost, capability and technical challenge.” BAE said: “We told India we could make them a naval version of the Typhoon.”

The move has raised concerns and former defence minister Lord Moonie is calling for a rethink in London.

He said: “The interest being shown by the Indian navy and the exploratory work done by BAE Systems means conditions are now right to see if Typhoon could meet our needs more quickly and cheaply.”

Britain had opted for the US F35 Joint Strike Fighter but there will not be enough of them ready until 2020.

And last year’s strategic defence review scrapped Harriers, which could have filled the gap in the meantime.

The MoD ordered 232 Typhoons and a few have entered into service with the RAF. Lord Moonie said some of the 232 aircraft could now be converted for the Navy.

Shadow defence minister Kevan Jones added: “It would be ironic if India had carrier-based aircraft but we did not.”

The Government last week said UK aid to India of £280million would continue.

The Englishstan's propoganda against India. Their aid is only on paper and all the money is just going to the U.K companies. No wonder the aid is not cut. The GOI must ask Londonistan to stop these kind of propoganda being launched against India and say "No need for any aid, thank you".
Eurofighter and the Navy. They want us to fund their Eurofighter program? The Navy is no IAF and they will go for the Tejas Mark-II and later the stealthy new AMCA. Navy is not obsessed with farign maall. Navy works to make desi the best. We'll surely see the Tejas Navy and the stealthy Naval AMCA to take off from IN'S aircraft carriers.

I personally think a few naval eurofighters wouldn't be all that bad. The whole point of the English article was that the UK is going to be one upped by a former dominion and that wouldn't be acceptable to Lord Upassington and the Thatcher imbreeds.

Nothing against the naval version of the EFT per see and with due respect to IN/RAF requirements, the points I have highlighted in bold are worth remembering. The first point "cost" is the major stumbling block.
Second is the capability. UK/US/European aircraft carriers will most probably see action against the Chinese PLAN/PLAAF forces around Taiwan. So they will have to go against the SU-30/27, J-20 and the proposed J-15 or Su-33. The problem with EFT will be that its weight will have to be reduced and undercarriage strengthened for carrier operations. Reduction in weight might lead to a reduction in the capability to carry munitions too. Further PLAAF/PLAN might be able to field a numerically equal if not superior force compared to its adversaries. In such cases only fighters capable of taking on the Chinese 4th generation fighters SU-27/30 and the proposed J-15 or Su-33 are the fifth generation fighters F-35 and F-22. A naval EFT will not be able to prevail over these fighters.

Why is that? Isnt a circus like fleet in the IAF enough (where virtaully every country has been represented) that we need to replicate the same in the IN ( few EFs+ few MiG-29Ks + few Rafales + few NLCAs etc)..

Indian navy is the best of all the three services of india. IN is the only service who is promoting Indegenization of weapons. I hope Indian Navy doesn't catch the flu virus of IAF and IA.

IA doesn't want Arjuns citing weight issues and IAF is showing the high nose to LCA.

Quoting Eric Leiderman's post in page 40 of this thiread
Mooring trials are when a vessel is hooked up to shore power initially and then the ships aux power source possibly diesel generators, the other support systems are the tested one by one. Eg steering, hydraulic systems, her main propulsion could also be tested at low power.all the while she is moored to a wharf,

I suppose the general manager of Yantar knows better. January 2012 is revised date for Tarkash which was initially scheduled for 2011 as well.
