Mush given scotch, cigars to appear in film on Benazir? http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/worl ... 142568.cms
ISLAMABAD: The makers of an acclaimed documentary on slain Pakistani leader Benazir Bhutto claim they had to resort to "much flattery", a bottle of Chivas and Cuban cigars to get former president Pervez Musharraf to do a short interview for the film.

"Convincing Benazir's political rival general Pervez Musharraf to appear on film was not easy.

The effort took a respectful letter, followed by a bottle of Chivas Regal and Cuban cigars delivered to his hotel suite in Philadelphia, where he was speaking on a tour of the US to rehabilitate his image," Duane Baughman and Mark Siegel, the director and producer of the film respectively, wrote in an article.

We all know how Jinnah and Liaquat Ali Khan pursued the US seeking aid, as have done all their successors. Let us look at the response to the country`s fifth prime minister, Huseyn Shaheed Suhrawardy, who tried to be honest and explain the realities of the world to the ghairat -obsessed. S.M. Burke, one of Pakistan`s earliest diplomats, who died recently aged 94, in his book, Pakistan`s Foreign Policy: An Historical Analysis describes truth telling thus:
“Suhrawardy frequently defended his pro-US foreign policy in public with a frankness unheard of in Pakistan till then. In one such extempore performance he faced a large gathering of East Pakistani students in the Salimullah Muslim Hall at Dhaka and decried the fact `that if we say anything in favour of America or the UK we are called “stooges of imperialism” and if we say anything in favour of Russia we are called “independent”`. He would try to compare the differences between various Muslim countries but it must be remembered that all the existing Muslim governments were weak. `The question is asked: why don`t we get together rather than be tied to a big power like the UK or America? My answer to that is that zero plus zero plus zero plus zero is after all equal to zero. We have, therefore, to go farther afield rather than get all the zeros together`.”
Soon after becoming ambassador in a June 2008 in a TV interview with one of the ghairat champions Haqqani was asked, “Why don`t we look the US in the eye?” He responded, accurately, “To look someone in the eye, you have to be approximately the same height.” Haqqani`s name has not yet cropped up in any embarrassing WikiLeaks cables but he is still unreasonably abused for seeking what Pakistan has always sought from the US — military and economic aid.

They suspected that the vaccine might have lost its efficacy after not having been stored at the required temperature, especially in far-flung areas where electricity supply is disrupted for long periods.
Also:
http://www.dailytimes.com.pk/default.as ... 2010_pg7_4
The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) provided millions of rupees every year to Expended Programme on Immunization (EPI) for polio vaccination in the country. However, a lion’s share of the allocated funds is embezzled by relevant health officials in connivance with Executive District Officers (EDOs) and Town Health Officers (THOs); resultantly vaccination could not reach to a large number of children.....

...Insiders in the health department sat that polio vaccines are sometimes not stored at required temperature. They said these vaccines also go expired due to non-use. ....
Why is this important? Because if this represents a new strain of polio then India is also vulnerable. Therefore, if the problem is with Pakistanis rather than with the polio virus and vaccine, there is no new threat.

PS: just FYI

IIRC, there is a myth that vaccination causes sterility in those areas. People are hostile to the officials who do vaccination.

Polio vaccination is one of the prerequisites of doing a Hajj as per the regulations laid down by KSA.

(The other major requirement is to take an oath and swear that the Prophet Mohammad is the true and only prophet and messenger of Allah, and one must once and for swear by that fact)

Wow, that was interesting info. With that as oblation, Google Devata rapidly provides this from November 2009:
http://www.polioeradication.org/tabid/1 ... fault.aspx
All travellers arriving from Afghanistan, India, Nigeria and Pakistan, regardless of age and vaccination status, must be vaccinated against polio six weeks prior to departure for Saudi Arabia and receive an additional dose at border points on arrival.

I may be wrong here, but on initial read of this article, it sounds as if the US was trying to bargain with India to formalize an agreement to not develop nuclear weapons in 1979.
Everyone seems to have thought that Morarji Desai was a weakling given his gandhian lifestyle, and it appears from the article that the US was telling India that Pakistan will develop Nuclear weapons unless India formalized an agreement with it (under US auspices)

Now this sounds almost as if the US was blackmailing Morarji, and he lost his cool with the US ambassador and told him that he would smash pakistan's bomb plans.

Oh! and Morarji had already said that he was not developing the n weapons program as long as he was PM.

^^^ Suit against Pasha. If US judge finds in favor of the plaintiffs AND subsequently the SD moves to provide cover under sovereign immunity (very likely), it clears the way for any next of kin who are say Spanish citizens, to bring a suit against Pasha for 'war crimes'/crimes against humanity and it become EU wide. This is what what happened to Pinochet. Also, a reason why Kissinger / Rumsfeld don't go to Europe.

Pakistan have yet again missed out on hosting a Davis Cup tie as the International Tennis Federation (ITF) has shifted their upcoming rubber against Hong Kong out of the country due to security concerns.

It's not much, but if the TSPA Generals and their kin are prevented from traveling and accessing stolen wealth overseas, it could be a small deterrent. These guys may use suicide bombers but they themselves love their lavish lifestyles and being able to send their kids to study abroad or investing in second homes etc.

Basically thats an important clue as to the length of any GOI. IG went down not because of the "emergency" atrocities - which at a similar period USA was finding sweet in many other countries, but because of IG's splitting up of Pak and the nuke interest.

Cheap Thrills

http://www.hindustantimes.com/Cheap-thr ... 41674.aspx
A little birdie told us that the high and mighty of the Indian capital have apparently disowned Mr Musharraf because while here across the Indus, the figures exchanging hands (under the table, of course) are in crores, here's a man who is happy with a few bottles, smokes and flattery. 'What kind of a loser is trying to bring the market price down?' they ask with genuine concern.

Polio vaccine needs to be refrigerated. Else it rapidly loses potency. Electricity supply in the land of the pure isnt what you would call stellar. Add to that the recent floods, electricty & storage disruption due to that.

Hakeem-sahib can enlighten us further.

Hindu spiritual leader kidnapped in Pakistan
Eightytwo-year-old Lakki Chand Garji, who is the `maharaja' of the Kali Mata Mandir in Kalat town, is considered to be one of Pakistan's most revered Hindu spiritual leaders. He was kidnapped Tuesday night, the Express Tribune reported Thursday.

As the news of his abduction spread, hundreds of Hindu community members blocked the key highway that links Karachi and Quetta, bringing traffic to a halt for several hours.

Hindus demanded that the government secure the immediate release of their spiritual leader.

Garji along with five people was travelling from Kalat town to Khuzdar to attend a marriage ceremony.

The media report said that he was intercepted by armed men who kidnapped him.

The people accompanying him were later released.

Pakistan Shows Signs of Turning Away From the United States
Chinese Prime Minister Wen Jiabao's three-day visit to Pakistan in accompaniment with a huge business delegation, as well as subsequent statements and body language of the Pakistani politicians is a clear message of goodbye to the west.
Wen's visit and the finalizing of forthcoming investments worth $20 billion raised serious concerns among the United States' lobbyists here in Islamabad.

Swiss Judge Presses for Nuclear Trial Despite C.I.A. Link
The investigation stems from the Tinners’ relationship with Abdul Qadeer Khan, the Pakistani atomic bomb pioneer who later peddled his knowledge on the black market. The three family members are alleged to have acted as middlemen in Mr. Khan’s dealings with rogue nations seeking nuclear equipment and expertise.
Whenever there is terrorist attack there is connection to Pakistan and now whenever there is news about nuclear proliferation there is connection to pakistan.

BB case: ISI, MI officials to be grilled
http://www.thenews.com.pk/NewsDetail.aspx?ID=7888
RAWALPINDI: Former CPO Rawalpindi Saud Aziz and SP Khurram Shahzad have disclosed, during investigation, names of four MI and ISI officials into Benazir Bhutto’s assassination case who will also be interrogated, Geo News reported Thursday.

Prosecutor FIA Chaudhry Zulfiqar told media men outside Anti Terrorism Court of Rawalpindi that Saud Aziz and Khurram Shahzad had, during investigation, named four MI and ISI officials of major and colonel level ranks who had been in contact with them after BB’s murder.

Earlier, the court handed over former CPO Rawalpindi Saud Aziz and SP Khurram Shahzad to FIA in six-day physical remand.

A team of FIA presented Saud Aziz and Khurram Shahzad before the Anti Terrorism Court today and sought 12-day physical remand of the two. However, the court only granted six-day physical of the arrested ex-policemen.

The problem is, the more respite tattistan gets from indigenous IED Mubaraks, the more possibility and vulnerability for such misadventures in India increases. Our safety and well-being is inversly proportional to their safety and well-being.

We haven't had any major attack in last couple of years when the pious abduls were blowing themselves up and shahidizing their less-pious birathers.

Recently there has been no major IED mubaraks in TSP and here we already have these 4 piglets sneaking in Mumbai to cause mayhem, is a logical fallout of this equation.

Import of 263 non-FTA items: China withdraws offer

ISLAMABAD
(December 23, 2010) : China has reportedly withdrawn its unilateral offer to facilitate import of an additional 263 items from Pakistan out of Free Trade Agreement (FTA), sources in Commerce Ministry told Business Recorder. In the middle of current year, Commerce Secretary Zafar Mahmood had announced before the Advisory Council of Trade Policy that China would facilitate import of a number of additional items out of FTA."I have good news for the business community that China has offered to allow export of additional items from Pakistan out of FTA unilaterally," Zafar had announced before a packed auditorium of the Planning Commission. However, this has not materialised so far as China is not ready to consider any trade concessions to Pakistan out of FTA, and on unilateral basis, sources said. Most of the items included in the 'wish list' were from the textile, engineering, and chemical sectors, and fresh fruits and vegetables. The Commerce Secretary had also announced that financial impact of these additional items, if Beijing accepted the proposal, would be around 1-1.5 billion dollars per annum, on export to China. Chinese Vice Premier Zhang Dejiang, during his visit to Pakistan, had assured Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani that four matters would be considered sympathetically. These were: (i) provision of a place for displaying of Pakistani goods in trade exhibitions, free of cost or at very cheap rates; (ii) dispatching buyers' missions for procurement for public sector; (iii) facilitation of additional Pakistani items for export to China; and (iv) training.
"What I know is that China wants to club the earlier offer with the FTA and on bilateral basis, which implies that it is not ready to honour the earlier open statement," sources added. The Commerce Secretary had proactively followed up with the Chinese government as member of President Zardari's entourage and at Free Trade Council meeting, but the result has been almost zero, sources said.Recently, Commerce Minister Amin Fahim and Commerce Secretary Zafar Mahmood had interacted with President Asif Zardari and Prime Minister Gilani in respect of logistical arrangements for Chinese Prime Minister Wen Jiabao's recent visit. Both the Presidency and the Prime Minister House had entrusted the Commerce Minister and Commerce Secretary with the responsibility of overseeing the arrangements of Pak-China Business Summit by the BoI and Ministry of Foreign Affairs.Insiders in the BoI said that handing over of Pak-China Business Summit arrangements to the Commerce Ministry was 'disrespectful' of the Board, which had been engaged in a number of MoUs. On a number of occasions, Pakistan lodged complaints that its exports had not been showing growth as per expectations and had requested the Chinese experts to include more Pakistani products in the FTA. Pakistan signed a number of MoUs and agreements with China during the visit of Premier Wen Jiabao. Commerce Secretary Zafar Mahmood was approached for comments but could not be reached despite hectic efforts through his office.

http://www.businessrecorder.com/news/bu ... urvey.html
ISLAMABAD (December 23, 2010) : The prevailing uncertain economic and political situation in Pakistan has shattered hopes of the masses to attain economic self-sufficiency, as only 13 percent are optimistic of economic growth in 2011."Worst economic recession, lack of economic discipline and good governance are the stumbling block in attaining economic prosperity, as pessimists think that next year will be full of difficulties, led with the figure with 34 percent", said Pakistaniat Patient IJ Azz Saafi Gilanahi, Chairman of Gappu Pakistan, while briefing media about the findings of a global survey by Gappu International. These findings emerged from one of the largest global surveys covering 53 countries from across the globe including all the G7 countries, the four countries of emerging BRIC and another 45 countries from Asia, Africa, Latin America and Australasia. Together a sample of over 64,000, scientifically selected men and women were interviewed by leading pollsters associated with Gallup International. He said that Pakistan, Afghanistan and Iraq are being considered as three flashpoints of global turmoil and it is surprising to note that public opinion in both Afghanistan and Iraq is more hopeful than in Pakistan. In Afghanistan, the Net Hope score is +24 percent and in Iraq it is +17 percent, he added.Comparing Pakistan with India, he said that in India the gap in Net Hope on economy is much bigger than gap in per capita income, and it must be noted that Hope Scores are volatile and can make sharp jumps in short years. This would be true of the mood in India as in the latest survey popular opinion in India shows a Net Hope of + 24 percent. In previous years, India generally scored lower than Pakistan  on such measures.

So, the Indian doc is falsely accused and confined without any humanitarian considerations by Saudi barbarians. Of course ably, assisted by pakis colleagues of the doc. So, amana ki tamasha will bear even more benefits. With pakis around oneself, it sure will pay dividends sooner or later.
Pity, she does not belong to right kind of religion, else Indian consulate would have gone in high gear, just as it did in case of another doc who belonged to right kind of religion in oz land.
People to people contact and aman ki ashas types are going to be silent about the helpful nature of the pakis exhibited in this case.

But the worse was yet to come. ''On March 1, Shalini was suddenly summoned to the local police station at Nazran and informed that on the basis of new evidence that her husband had converted to Islam before his death, she was being accused of poisoning him. Bewildered by the turn of events and seized by fear, she denied the allegations but was sent into detention at the police station on March 16 with her 34-day-old baby. She stayed there for 25 days and learnt that some Pakistani colleagues and locals had conspired in the whisper campaign. After being released, she was confined to the hospital campus with her movements severely restricted,'' said her paternal uncle, H Nagpal. Her family was sending her money which kept her going.
It was once again confirmed that Ashish had died of a heart attack. Finally, the file was closed, and on December 3, she was given permission to leave the country.
