I suggested we should have a truly secular war cry. Brahmos should have 'Jack & Jill went up a hill to fetch a pail of water'. That has shut them up for now.

Yup.

She was feeling very proud whenever a woman officer is mentioned and seeing a lady heading a parade contingent!

She has gained lots of confidence and grace in last two-three years. (in initial years she looked worried and weak) Speaks impeccable hindi (she also appears in one of the govt ads!!! shown on DD before the parade started. The ad was about bharat ka samvidhan).

The only thing i did not like is much time allotted to angrezi commentator. 90% of janata do not understand angrezi properly. and especially when the message is about patriotism, progress and chivalry, desi language should be given preference as only poor and middle class people are interested in watching the parad. DIE dont like these parade shered - it is facist you know.

the angrezi DD commentator was funny - and now you see the parrrrrrrrade, the prrrrrrrrrrrrrotector of the borrrrders etc. , ill prepared and extempore.

Of many nations we are fortunate in being able to see and hear the voice of our founding fathers. Many nations do not have this privilege. Let us remember the spirit of this document in these contentious times.

on cnn ibn the commentators were talking of the flypast formations to come *After* it had happened and planes gone away

DD cameras covering the flypast was pathetic...2 sec of plane, then a 10 sec sweep of the crowd....

maybe like the IAF firepower demo in pokhran, they could have flown a UAV and beamed us the flypast live from a vantage point above rajpath...those uav guys did a superb job of zooming in on the inbounds and tracked the aerobatics of the MKI closely...

He did. Thakur is of course the non-Bangla version of Tagore. I thought you would tell us more!

it's thakur in bangla as well, tagore is just the anglicized version of thakur. in bangla he always signed his name as thakur.
like bandopadhay -- > banerjee etc.

One thing which was given ample airtime was the Tavors by the SPG...seems like all the SPG folks had their spanking new Tavors bared and ready to roll.
IIRC, in the older R-days, i used to see only 1-2 SPG guys with their weapons bared while the rest kept them inside their coats...not his time though.
