40 panchayat members quit en masse

Forty panches, including three sarpanches, have submitted their resignations to the government in Baramulla district alone and reports suggest many more are in the offing.

"We have so far received the resignations of 40 panches, which includes three sarpanches from the district," DC Baramullah Khwaja Ghulam Ahmad told .

"Though there are reports in the media that many more have resigned, only 40 resignations have been received by the administration so far," he added.

A local Urdu daily here reported today of having received 53 resignations for publications.

Officials in the Rural Development and Panchayati Raj department, however, have said resignations announced before media or in mosques will not be considered and the panches will have to follow a proper procedure if they want to quit.

On Sunday, militants shot dead a panch in Kreeri area of Baramulla district.

Mohammad Shafi Teli was shot in the chest outside his house at Nowpora village in Kreeri area, 35 kms from here, at around 8.15 PM.

The 38-year-old was shifted to Sub-district hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. No militant outfit has so far claimed responsibility for the killing.

Militants have killed several panchs and sarpanchs since the landmark panchayat polls were held in the state last year after a gap of 30 years.

I think we should have a plebiscite ... with a slight difference. Those who don't want to stay in India as Indians (and no Article 370 either) can go wherever they want. We can even give them free transport to the nearest border !

^^UN itself is a failure.

This comedian zardarji zardari's statement is an expression of inability. :D

Pakis tried every trick in the book to wrest kashmir from India, like terrorism, support from the west, support from islamic nations (OIC), Declared war, Un-Declared war, etc. But couldn't achieve anything worthwhile. So, it became UN's failure, You see pakis never fail in anything. :rotfl:

So what is the J&K govt doing to provide security to the panches besides name calling the terrorists?

Every tourist going to Kashmir should tell them how badly they treated pandits and in the name of religion they are welcome to join Bakistan.

http://indiatoday.intoday.in/story/young-kashmir-says-bye-bye-pakistan/1/222852.html

A case of reverse psychology will be to bifurcate J&K into Jammu-Kashmir and the Kashmir Valley, the KV can go to bakistan if they want it or remain "azad" surrounded on all sides by the India., like a hell-hole in a doughnut., completely dependent on everything from the surrounding areas. When they are walled in their own manure, they will understand the need for diversity.

That's the game TSP is playing. They really want the land, not the people ! But to get the support of bleeding heart liberals, they talk about sufferings of the people. That's why I think we should call their bluff and offer them all the people but keep the land. We'll then see what they really want.

People from KV (only the KV) are nuts and high on religious soma. And they are holding back the rest of the Kashmir and Jammu and Ladakh. I am for creating a walled enclave like a hole in the doughnut totally dependent on their surroundings for their very survival. This will allow the rest to join the mainstream which they really want to do without being held to hostage by valley politics.

They have been subsidised too long, they should be made to work with the rest for several generations just to knock some sense into them.

I am not for giving away any territory. All I have is utter disdain for the kashmiris. When KV spout "azaadi"., they are spouting death to other religious minorities and diversity.

Clown prince seeks to keep his promise

Five top industrialists will fly to Srinagar on Friday, as part of a Rahul Gandhi-driven initiative: they will “listen” to Kashmir University students to get a firsthand feel of the ground situation and then work on what they can do to create employment opportunities in the trouble-torn State.

Those on the Congress general secretary’s list include Ratan Tata, Kumar Mangalam Birla, Rajiv Bajaj and Deepak Parekh, party sources said.

“This is a completely new initiative for Jammu and Kashmir,” Mohan Prakash, senior Congress functionary in charge of the State said, adding, “Rahulji is keeping the promise he made to Kashmir University students he met last year in September.” The students, Mr. Prakash said, had complained about the lack of industry and jobs, and Mr. Gandhi assured them that he would bring some top businessmen to Srinagar so that they could interact with them directly.

After a meeting with students of the university, scheduled for 10.30 a.m. Friday, the industrialists will meet members of the local Chambers of Commerce to discuss the possibilities of investment in the area. Mr. Gandhi would be present during the meeting with the students, Congress sources said.

Ratan Tata thanked Rahul Gandhi for opening windows, nay, doors, for India Inc. into J&K.

However subservient the Abdullahs may be to the fraud Gandhi's, surely it must be emasculating for Omar to have Amul Baby waltz into the state with the Tatas and Birla in tow and they singing paens of this great opportunity he had created for them by opening up Kashmir.

Rahul's meeting with over 3,600 village body members had been intended to be a major public relations exercise. It went the other way.

"He didn't talk about honorarium. He didn't talk about our empowerment. We were not satisfied with his speech. We thought he would announce something but he had nothing for us. All this forced us to walk out of the meeting," said Bashir Ahmad Sheikh, sarpanch from Kupwara district.

Who would have thunk. Ratan Tata, Kumarmangalam Birla, Deepak Parekh and Rajeev Bajaj were waiting for Rahul to open Kashmir for them!

yes
source -- vacant seats
As political parties make efforts for government formation in Jammu and Kashmir, not many know that 24 Assembly seats lie vacant for several decades. The seats have been vacant since the first general elections in the State in 1957.

Of these, 25 seats were reserved for the areas of the former Jammu and Kashmir State that later came under Pakistani occupation.

In 1975, the number of Assembly seats increased from 75 to 76. In the delimitation process of 1988, the number of seats was increased to 87 which is the present number. The strength of the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly is 111 but the Article 47 states that "Notwithstanding anything contained in Section 47, until the areas occupied by Pakistan ceases to be so occupied and the people residing in that areas elect their representatives, 24 seats in the Assembly shall remain vacant and shall not be taken into account for reckoning the total membership of the Assembly. Besides, the areas shall be excluded in delimiting the territorial constituencies under Section 47." Under the Congress regime in 1994, Parliament unanimously pledged to get back those areas from the illegal occupation of Pakistan.

Bolded part is during PVN rule.

If there are suitable people from those POK Assy areas then they should be appointed by the President of India with suitable consultations till those areas get to elect their representatives.

There have been demands from POK refugees in J&K to elect their own reps from themselves.

Overall a good move since 1950s to keep the issue of merger alive in future.

After over two decades, temple reopens in Kashmir Valley

After 22 years, the ancient temple of Mata Katyayani reopened here today following its reconstruction amid religious rituals. The temple, once the centre of attraction in the erstwhile Tehsil of Kulgam, was reopened by the All Parties Migrants Coordination Committee (APMCC). Deputy Chief Minister Tara Chand and MLA Kulgam M Y Tarigami were among those who attended the ceremony. "The bells rang in the temple after 22 years. A hawan is being organised for a full week," APMCC chairman Vinod Pandit said.

The place of worship, which was in damaged condition, had been given a new shape with construction of four temples within its complex, he said.

The idols, installed in the temple, have been gifted by The Art of Living founder Sri Sri Ravi Shankar.

One does not run away without a fight. Its better than opening new masjids everyday. There was another report of Amarnath road construction being taken up. Rome was not built nor destroyed in a day.

Did I criticize the building of the temple? Its good for the Kashmir gov too - gives ability to claim "secular" credentials. Also pumps money into the local economy. So repeated destruction and repeated rebuilding is good for the economy.

They don't need to claim secular credentials by building temples. The Indian Army is not killing innocent Kashmiris is due to the secular nature of the Kashmiri govt and its willingness to fight for secularism. The temple and the roads are not needed for them.

Why does the Vaishno Devi shrine funded university's language division teach only "English" [ with stress on American pronunciation] and other foreign languages, but seems to have no provision for Kashmiri -non-Persian version - language? No research wing for the sharda script? Even some sanskrit? They have elements of "Indian philosophy" but how can that go into serious study without knowledge of the Sanskrit or prakrit?

I can't become a graduate without studying in English medium. Even stuff like medicine & law are not taught in non English languages in India. Its more of a pan Indian problem, not restricted to Kashmiri alone. There have been ridiculous court cases where the teaching of Sanskrit should be allowed only if Persian/Arabian is taught as well in line with our secular ethos.

Geelani asks govt to stop Amarnath 'road' construction, threatens agitation

SRINAGAR: Separatist Syed Ali Shah Geelani on Thursday reiterated his threat to launch an agitation against what he described as the government's plans to build a macadamized road to the ecologically-fragile Amarnath cave shrine in South Kashmir Himalayas.

Geelani said he would announce the programme for the agitation after Eid-ul-Azha (October 27) if the government does not abandon the plan.

"We have also surveyed the area and found that the government has started the road construction. The construction material has been taken to the site in South Kashmir's restricted forest area," Geelani told reporters. "We will make people aware of the long term results of the construction plan that would disturb the area's ecological balance."

Earlier, Geelani had asked the state government to give up the idea of road connectivity to the shrine on September 2. "Two state ministers insisted that no road construction was planned, but governor N N Vohra and chief minister Omar Abdullah agreed to implement a Supreme Court directive on road connectivity to the cave in a recent meeting," Geelani said.

He reiterated his demand for limiting the Amarnath yatra to 15 days, cap on the number of pilgrims and giving Kashmiri Pandits a lead role in conducting it. The separatist leader sough Shri Amaranthji Shrine Board's abolition and said non-state subjects should be kept away from interfering with the yatra.

Geelani insisted that Kashmiris are not against the yatra, but accused the Centre of trying to impose its "political agenda" through it.

Please do look up that uni. I was not talking about medium of instruction. Its about their "lingusitics department" within the humanities faculty. The same faculty also has "philosophy" which includes at least formally Indian philosophy and items like Mimamsa, Vedanta, Buddhism etc. Studying all those necessitates at least a rudimentary Sanskrit, Praakrit, Pali division.

But lingusitics there only claims to be concerned about English and at the next phase, about foreign languages. Urdu has been insisted upon as necessary in the so-called "Islamic" universities at other places in India, and not only Urdu, but also Farsi and Arabic - as being absolutely necessary to try and understand Islam and Islamic scholarship. If funds are after all coming from Vaishno Devi Temple income, it should have a right to insist on - at the least study, and preservation of the sharda script and literature.

JNU opposed the setting of Sanskrit as well and its located in the capital of the country. The language necessary for understanding India's past is history and the reason for opposing it was some leftist BS. It would be a good idea to know whether the Kashmiri uni suffers from the same malaise as JNU does.

Why go to places like Kashmir & JNU when there are enough self goalers spread all over India who associate progress with language. The secular ethos is on full flow here.

Pak Army, ISI coerce J&K militants to fight Nato troops
Zulfikar Majid, Sopore (Kashmir), Oct 20, 2012, DHNS:

4,000 Kashmiri men are stranded in PoK: Intelligence

The Pakistan Army and the Inter Services Intelligence (ISI) are coercing Kashmiri militants based in Pakistan-occupied-Kashmir (POK) to fight alongside the Taliban against Nato troops in tribal areas of Pakistan and Afghanistan.

The revelations were made by dozens of militants who returned to Kashmir via Nepal and other routes during de-briefing by the police and Indian intelligence agencies, sources said.

“More than 150 Kashmiri militants have been sent to Waziristan and other tribal areas to fight alongside the Taliban against Nato troops. Kashmiri militants are being handled by Yousuf Baloch and Bakht Zaman – two Al Badr commanders – in Waziristan,” a senior intelligence officer here told Deccan Herald.

Recently a hardcore militant of Hizb-ul-Mujahideen, who surrendered before the police, revealed that he opted to return after he was forced to go to Waziristan.

“The militant told his chief that he will go to Kashmir instead of Waziristan as he feared death there. On arriving, he surrendered and revealed that hundreds of militants who had crossed to PoK in early 90’s want to return,” the officer revealed.

Intelligence sources said there are about 3,000 to 4,000 Kashmiri militants stranded in and around Muzaffarabad, capital of PoK. In August, a Kashmiri militant commander Ahsan Aziz was one of several terrorists killed in a US drone strike in the Shawal Valley in Pakistan’s Taliban-controlled North Waziristan.

“After the killing of Aziz, most of the Kashmiri militants based in PoK are hesitant to go to Waziristan and other tribal areas to fight against NATO troops,” sources said and added that most of them belong to north Kashmir.

A senior police official posted in north Kashmir said that atleast 50 militants hailing from Sopore and Baramulla towns have returned from PoK in the last six months.
“The reason for their return are diminishing support from the Pakistan government, realisation that the ‘Kashmir jihad’ is going nowhere and a promise of amnesty by the government of India,” he added.

A former militant from this apple rich town, who returned back from PoK recently, said, “I was ordered to go to Waziristan. I thought it is better to die in Kashmir than going to the lawless tribal areas of Pakistan and fight against US drones.” :?:

Asked why he chose to come back after staying in PoK for 20 years, he said, “The jihad is over. We were misled by Pakistan and now we have realised that it is better to live and die on your own land and around your own people than in virtual exile where we might be forced to beg for a living.”

Some more 72s kept ready in Jannat by the IA:
LeT militant ‘involved in Delhi terror plot’ killed in Valley

Two Lashkar-e-Toiba militants, including ‘divisional commander’ Muzamil Amin Dar who was allegedly involved in a terror plot to target Delhi in February, were killed in an encounter in Sopore that began on Saturday evening and lasted for over 20 hours. Three security personnel were injured in the shootout.

“Two LeT militants were killed in a joint operation of the police and Army at Sopore,” said a police spokesman. “The slain militants were identified as Lashkar’s divisional commander Muzamil Amin Dar alias Urfi, who was involved in the Delhi blast conspiracy, and Abdullah Shaheen, believed to be a Pakistani,” he said.

A resident of Sopore, Muzamil’s name came up after the arrest of two Sopore youths — Ahtesham Malik and Tauseef Ahmad Pir — from New Delhi railway station in February this year for allegedly planning bomb blasts in the capital. Delhi Police claimed to have recovered explosives, memory cards, five mobile phones and passports from their possession.

Although Muzamil was already on the police radar for his alleged links with Lashkar militants, he went underground soon after Malik and Pir were arrested. Police sources said it was Muzamil who had motivated Malik to return to the LeT fold and had also asked him to apply for a Pakistani visa.

A science graduate, Muzamil worked as a medical representative till he went missing. In 2010, he and his father were arrested for allegedly supporting militants. Police claimed they had recovered arms and ammunition from their home.

Stranded? are they on kind of pilgrimage or tour there?
Let those terrorists enjoy pakistan. We MUST be in no hurry to allow them a return.
if they die there in pakistan someway or another its good for us anyway, Our hearts need not bleed .

This must be a new drama by pakistan as they are not able to send militants through border.
We MUST not trust pakistan at any cost.

RSS chief asks India to 'liberate' Pakistani Kashmir

Virtually advocating a war with Pakistan, the RSS Wednesday urged the government to "liberate" parts of Kashmir held by Islamabad to arrest the growth of terrorism.

Addressing the annual Dassehra rally here, RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat said terrorism was on a comeback trail because of the government's policies on Jammu and Kashmir over the past decade.

"The areas under Pakistani occupation have to be liberated, discrimination in administrative and developmental matters in the case of Jammu, Leh-Ladakh and Kashmir Valley must end," he said.

He said Jammu and Kashmir should be brought 'on par' with the rest of the country to create conditions to enable Hindus compelled to flee the Kashmir Valley to return with honour.

Troops of 53 Rashtriya Rifles had set up a vehicle check post at Chattergam chowk, 20 km from Srinagar, in Chadoora area of Budgam following information about movement of militants through the area.

A team of 35 Rashtriya Rifles men travelling in a civilian vehicle did not stop at the check point, giving rise to suspicion among the troops at the check post, who opened fire.

Sepoy Ghulam Rasool Sheikh, Naik Setien Tao of 25 Rashtriya Rifles and Territorial Army driver Abdul Rauf were wounded and admitted to the 92 Base Hospital at Badamibagh Army headquarters where Sheikh and Rauf succumbed.

Unfortunate incident.

Recall such a friendly fire incident a year back in Assam where a team of MI personnel in civvies were ambushed( and 3-4 were killed) by a police team who were in the same place looking for the same target as the MI team.

Rajendra babu cast the deciding vote in favour of hindi. Sanskrit ultimately lost due to that vote which was the tie breaker, as it were.

What is more Suniti chatterjee had also voted in favour of hindi.

Shri Geelani is an Indian patriot who believes in the unification of India with Pakistan. His good friend is Shri Hafeez Mohammed Saeed, who is also fighting for the same noble cause.

Kashmir protests after Facebook 'slur'

Muslims in Indian-administered Kashmir have protested against Facebook posts which they say insult Islam.

Police have arrested three people, all Hindus, from the Kishtwar district for allegedly running a "campaign" against Islam on the social networking site.

Two of the men are government teachers. Authorities said they had been dismissed from their jobs.

Police were put on alert after Muslim leaders called for a shutdown in the valley on Tuesday.

On Monday Muslim protestors clashed with relatives of the three men who allegedly put up the Facebook posts in Kishtwar, Doda and Bhaderwah districts.

Some protestors pelted a local police station with stones and damaged vehicles.

Authorities have blocked a Facebook page on which the three men had allegedly posted morphed pictures of the Koran and Kaaba. They have also asked the police to charge the men with violating public safety.
