X Posted from the STFUP thread.

arun wrote:The Islamic Republic of Pakistan scores heavily in the “People Under Threat” 2014 Index. The “Peoples under Threat” index identifies those countries around the world where communities face the greatest risk of genocide, mass killing or systematic violent repression.

In 2014 the Islamic Republic of Pakistan came in within the 10 highest rated countries at 7th position being beaten by Somalia, Sudan, Syria, D.R.Congo, Afghanistan and Iraq and in turn beating out Myanmar, Ethiopia and Yemen.

Interestingly Pakistan which had been vociferously complaining about human rights violations in Myanmar was rated worse than Myanmar. 7 of the 10 highest rated countries are preponderantly made up of adherents of Mohammaddenism.

Extract from the report regards the Islamic Republic of Pakistan:

While the deadly conflict in Pakistan with Islamist armed groups in the north-west draws most international media attention, the threat of ethnic or sectarian killing reaches across the country. This includes risks from interethnic political violence in Sindh, sectarian clashes between Deobandi and Barelvi militant groups, violent repression of Baluchi activists in Baluchistan, continued persecution of Christians and Ahmadiyya, and an exterminatory campaign against Hazara and other Shi’a across the country waged by Lashkar-e-Jhangvi, Sipah-e-Sahaba and the Pakistani Taliban, which claimed the lives of hundreds of victims last year.

Read it here:

Peoples under Threat 2014

It has been a bad week for the Islamic Republic of Pakistan’s pretensions of being entitled to lecture the Non-Mohammadden world on perceived Mohammadden Oppression in Jammu & Kashmir, Palestine, Kosovo, Myanmar and elsewhere owing to her wholly misplaced belief that the Non-Mohammadden world can be conned into believing that the Islamic Republic has an acceptable record on human rights and freedom.

After being cruelly exposed by the “People Under Threat “ report, the Islamic Republic of Pakistan now stands exposed by the “Freedom In The World” report for 2014 put out by Freedom House.

Yet again Freedom House has rated Jammu & Kashmir (P 22) as being freer than not only Pakistan (P 21) but also in Pakistan Occupied J&K (P 22).:

Reliance pushed for India-Pak peace talks: Sanjaya Baru's book
Buried deep inside the pages of Sanjaya Baru's controversial book, The Accidental Prime Minister: The Making and Unmaking of Manmohan Singh, are startling revelations about the contours of settlement of Kashmir issue. Also the claim that peace process between India and Pakistan was pushed by the corporate group Reliance, who wanted an assurance from Islamabad that they would not bomb their refinery in Jamnagar Gujarat.

With the book being released amidst election campaign for the 16th Lok Sabha, these revelations were lost in the cacophony of a debate on "cipher" prime minister Manmohan Singh and the "power centres", referred to Congress president Sonia Gandhi.

Prime minister's back-channel envoy Satinder Lambah and Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf's advisor Tariq Aziz, who met several times had laid down a four-step framework agreement, approved by the political heads. The formula had so far been in the realm of speculation in the diplomatic corridors, with former Pakistan foreign minister Mehmood Ahmed Kasuri spilling beans a couple of years ago, saying both countries had reached almost close to the settlement of six-decade old Kashmir problem, that has rocked the relations and resulted four wars between the two countries. From India's side, there was always a hush-hush with the ministry of external affairs denying there was any roadmap in its records.

Baru writes that Lambah's meetings with prime minister Singh were always kept secret, with only the PM's second personal secretary Jaideep Sarkar in loop. Sarkar would often take leave officially from office, on the pretext of preparing his son for exams or reporting sick, to accompany Lambah to meet his Pakistani interlocutors either in Islamabad or at a third place to prepare ground for the agreement and the summit meetings.

According to the framework agreement, the first step, would be to make the LoC just 'a line on a map' and allow men, material and trade between the two parts of Jammu and Kashmir, so that life returns to pre-Partition era, when people could travel without visa, permits to each other's villages and cities.

The second step would be to strengthen local self-governments on both side of the LoC, so that people can elect their own governments, if necessary under international supervision. That means elections on both sides would be supervised by an international body rather than the Election Commission of India.

The third step, which was the trickiest, entailed the creation of 'joint' or 'cooperative' institutions under the charge of Kashmiri leaders to coordinate policies on matters of common interest. This joint mechanism involving governments and elected representatives of both sides would take decisions on everything except foreign affairs and defence which would be handled by New Delhi and Islamabad respectively.

And if all these steps worked well to restore peace, the fourth and final element would be the 'agreed withdrawal' of troops on both sides.

Baru claims that Singh followed the path laid down by his predecessor Atal Bihari Vajpayee during his January 2004 visit of Islamabad. Vajpayee had entrusted the back-channel contacts to R K Mishra, who also doubled up as chairman of Dhirubhai Ambani's aide. Manmohan Singh wanted Musharraf to own and propagate the Kashmir 'peace formula'. He was under the impression that it would be tough for Musharraf to sell this formula in his own country. But it turned out that Singh had underestimated the resistance from within his own party and also from two key ministers, Pranab Mukherjee and A K Antony, and national security advisor M K Narayanan. The road map was finally buried after Musharraf ruled ended in 2008 and has been waiting since then to be resurrected.

So it seems that pakis greatest and biggest insurance agents are reliance. Also this article shows how cheaply can indian politicians can be "bought" in the market. Even pakis can buy them. :( If so called piss process had been implemented, then it was time to forget that JnK was even part of india. :( :(

Young gurkha slays Pak militant in fierce hand-hand-combat long LoC in Jammu and Kashmir

http://indiatoday.intoday.in/story/prem ... 60159.html

A 23-year-old courageous soldier of the Gurkha regiment killed a Pakistani trained infiltrator during a hand-to-hand combat along the Line of Control in Poonch in the wee hours of Saturday.
Defence PRO in Jammu said, "A 23-year-old soldier from the elite Gurkha Regiment of the Indian Army, Rifleman Prem Bahadur Roka Magar scripted an astonishing saga of raw courage and fearlessness, resulting in the elimination of two hardcore Pakistan trained terrorists in the Poonch sector"."The brave soldier after reaching within hand shaking distance tried to grab the AK 47 rifle of the Pak trained infiltrator and in the ensuing melee he escaped a gun shot and dropped his own weapon," the PRO added."Without paying attention to his own safety the fearless solider pounced on the infiltrator and grappled with him before the two fell in a near by nallah."Acting on intelligence inputs about the possible infiltration in the area, the troops were deployed in a group of multiple ambushes near the Baghialdhara Nallah on the Line of Control. The PRO further said before hand-to-hand combat Magar and his ambush party spotted a group of terrorists and eliminated one with precise and controlled fire of automatic weapons, after tracking them with night vision devices for some time. What followed was the stuff of legends when Magar, in darkness and extremely thick foliage, initially mistaken for another armed militant to be one his colleagues, moved to within hand shaking distance of him, and was almost shot down and in the process also dropped his own weapon. Completely displaying nerves of steel with scant regard for his own safety, the courageous Gurkha engaged in a fierce physical duel with the terrorist while simultaneously grabbing his AK 47 which was spewing a hail of fire. The two grappled and rolled down the hillside, finally disengaging with a fall in another Nallah. The militant, now clearly unnerved by the boldness of the braveheart, tried to make good his escape. Magar though bereft of his personal weapon, whipped out a hand grenade and hurled it at the fleeing miscreant killing him instantaneously, thus bringing to conclusion another heroic chapter that epitomizes the character and ethos of the Indian Army and its matchless soldiers.

LiLo jo, All these are rumors spread by you know who. Ambanis know that paying any Paki Idiot with access to gun or F-16 is no guarantee for decent future behavior.
The best bet to protect your assets is to have a strong Indic govt ruling the country and not by paying ransom to Pakistani terrorists.

Yes if they really want to protect refineries, Maybe should've helped in changing this Anti-India govt and that "hoier-than-thou, Good for Effing nothing" Antony.

settling of Illegal Myanmar immigrants in Jammu who now have power, water connections

Going by the ever-increasing number of illegal Myanmar immigrants in Jammu, there seems to be a “discreet and deliberate” attempt by some non-government organisations (NGOs), enjoying “covert patronage” of the state government, to change the demography of the district.

A visit by The Tribune team to one of the clusters of Rohingya Muslims from Myanmar in Narwal here bared it all.

These illegal immigrants from Myanmar, who put their number to over 6,500 in Jammu district, not only have access to water and electricity connections, but have also acquired two-wheelers.

These immigrants also said after going through the kindergarten in the slum schools, they have to prepare an affidavit to enroll their children in government schools.

If the disturbing trend was not reversed, majority of them having five to 10 children might change the demography of Jammu district in the next 10 years.

Jammu and Kashmir enjoys a special status under the Article 370 of the Indian Constitution and no one from outside the state can settle down or buy property here.

“Two months ago I came from Myanmar to live here with my wife and seven children. From Myanmar I crossed over to Bangladesh and then entered India. I came to Jammu from Delhi,” said 45-year-old Syed Hussain, who works as a labourer.

The shanty in lane number six of Bhatindi, where Hussain puts up along with his family, has an electricity connection and he pays Rs 100 a month to the Power Development Department (PDD) lineman.

Before coming to Jammu, Hussain had obtained a refugee card from the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in Delhi.

“We were told that Muslims were more in Jammu, so we decided to settle down here…the situation in Myanmar is grim,” he said.

Another illegal immigrant Hafiz Ahmed, who lives along with his two wives and 10 children, said: “For electricity we pay from our pockets, while an NGO has provided us the water connections.”

The 41-year-old, sitting on a two-wheeler, said he had purchased the vehicle from someone. “The registration certificate and other documents still stand in the name of previous owner. Being a foreigner I don’t have a license, but who cares,” he said.

Hafiz, who has been living here for the past five years, said there were about 13,000 people from Myanmar living in Jammu.

Syed Hussain, 51, who has five children and has been living here for the past over five years, said: “Though the state government offered no help to them, an NGO has opened four schools for their children.”

“From nursery to UKG, basic subjects like Urdu, English and Hindi are being taught to 200 children from Myanmar. But there is more number of children and we need more schools.”

Elaborating on academic facilities for their children in the state, Hussain said: “After passing UKG at these slum schools, we have to prepare affidavits to send our children to government schools.”

When asked about the number of Myanmar people living in Jammu, Hussain said about 6,500 of them had settled down in various parts of the district.

He also revealed that their clusters were raised on private lands for which they pay rentals ranging from Rs 500 to Rs 300 a month.

“Last year when we met Minister (for Housing and Urban Development) Raman Bhalla for electricity and water supply, he assured us help, but we haven’t got anything till now. However, we do get zakat (charity) from people,” he added.

now omar Abdullah is back to the games played by former CM and present Union Cabinet Minister Dr F Abdullah referred to in the letter of Jagmohan to the then PM R. Gandhi reproduced above
Going by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah’s idea of the Kashmir solution, minorities in this Muslim-majority state will have no say in resolving the issue. The majority will have the final say and the minorities will have to contend with that.

This is all about the Assembly elections, where Omar wants to improve his party National Conference’s tally of 28 in 2002 and 2008 polls. For that he is pandering to the majority sentiment, this time in the name of the majority’s “aspirations”.

Since Omar has not specified who form the majority in Jammu and Kashmir, the obvious conclusion is that he is talking of Muslims in the state. As the chief minister, he should have realised that putting the majority versus minority discourse in the public domain would give rise to divisive forces.

Read with his earlier statements that Kashmir would part ways with “communal India” if Modi comes to power, and Kashmir will not stay a part of India if Article 370 (that grants special status to J&K) is revoked, Omar’s statement yesterday that the majority view would prevail in the K-issue solution has left no one in doubt that he is preparing his ground for the forthcoming Assembly elections.

This thesis’s introduction was spelled out by him at a seminar in Srinagar on Tuesday. “The K-issue is a long-pending problem”. You cannot give any solution which will be acceptable to each and every citizen of the state. You have to work out a solution which will satisfy the aspirations of the majority of the people,” he said. And he went on to add that “though such a solution is difficult to sell yet this is the only solution in this regard.”

On the face of it, this statement might look realistic, as there is not even a single community or region or sub-region which wants to be hostage to the kind of solutions offered by pro-Pakistan separatists, pro-autonomy National Conference and pro-self-rule Peoples Democratic Party. The Congress sticks to the 1975 Indira-Sheikh accord while the BJP suggests the abrogation of Article 370. This is not acceptable to all. Each side wants their solution to be adopted. But Omar’s latest thesis can cause confrontation between regions and religions.

Omar has gone several steps beyond the often articulated the US stand that “the Kashmir solution should be as per the wishes of the people of the state.” The US never spoke of the majority view.

Electoral politics is alright, but taking the things too far can only deepen the fears of the minorities. It has also put the Congress in the dock.

When National Conference leaders made statements of breaking away from “India if it becomes communal,” state Congress chief Saifuddin Soz had told his party cadre that “Kashmir was and is and will continue to be an integral part of India”.

He had also said that “such absurd statements were illogical. Modi or no Modi as prime minister, India will continue to tread the path of secularism and Kashmir will be its integral part.”

Omar, a bright face of Indian politics in the late 1990s when he was a union minister, is fast picking up the discarded threads and reverting to the 1930s when the NC took birth out of the womb of the Muslim Conference. In the 21st century when the talk is about making the world a global village, is he taking the state back to the twentieth century?

Reuters and no doubt other agencies, are playing up the invitation by Modi, to the Pak PM Sharif, to his inauguration. And in the article, there is a mention of Sharif being criticised by the Pakistani army for being dovish on India and Kashmir. Subtle bit of counterbalancing of India with Pakistan, with some emphasis on the Pak military. Instead, what they really should have been reporting is simply Modi's inauguration as India's PM, and that several people are attending including possible Sharif.

Omar Abdullah govt is as good as gone and is now a lame duck govt after the recent drubbings in LS election whatever the fake bravado.
Wait! Dont start rejoicing because the next govt which would most likely be of PDP led by Mufti Father-Daughter duo is as communal and corrupt as Abdullah father-Son duo is. No respite for Aam Aadmi and no sight of Kejri in Kashmir.
As long as we keep repeating same old solutions and same old politicians, this festering wound is never going to get healed.
Time for bold initiatives and split the state. Let KM get $crewed by their local leadership. Why should other groups stuck with Kashmir suffer the incompetence and Lordship of KM families.

CRamS: Indian cards were always known to the world. Best case, take back whole of PoK and worst case, compromise on current LoC. The first case in current dispensation is out of the window while second case is the most likely outcome in near future with minor adjustments of trade and open borders.

Yes. Apparently Kashmiri Pandits are to be resettled in J&K at full India Govt. expense. That's a good first step. Maybe announced immediately following the swearing in ceremony.

If this really come to fruit, I am personally going to buy a houseboat available for my BRF fellows all around the year.
People of Bharat have gone out of the way to take care of Kashmiri Pandits starting right from the Royal Tiger of Mumbai Sri Balasahab Thackarey to the wonderful folks of RSS and all the way to current PM designate Sh. Narendra Modi.
Sh. Jagmohan deserves special thanks and gratitude.

I wonder what is GoI going to do about the properties being sold in distress by KP or businesses lost.

In addition to resettling Pandits in Kashmir, important to abolish Article 370. Everywhere in the world, migration of people from one place to another for livelihood and trade is inevitable. Anthropologists will say everyone in the world migrated out of Africa at some point. While immigration and emigration should be controlled for obvious reasons, totally banning them within one country in a non-reciprocal manner (Kashmiris can set up shop everywhere else in India and own property but not the other way) is counter intuitive. While I am not in favor of ethnic doctoring by forcibly settling millions of say Biharis or Punjabis or Bengalis in J&K, we can let natural inflow and outflow of people. It will make the culture of J&K vibrant again with lot of nature lovers and poets and artists migrating to Kashmir and enterprising Kashmiris enriching their livelihood with additional income and benefiting from improved art and culture scene.

In my order of priority
1) Abolish article 370
2) Uniform Civil Code
3) Solution to Ayodya temple in a peaceful manner.

They had couple of expats in their loop untill I intervened to give them a piece of my mind & told them to bug-off...

The certificates of this organization they were showing to collect donations were signed for Sept, 2011 :?: . I guess this is just another facet of their Jihad or monetary appriciation via playing both sides which they are so good at.

What is the estimated no. of KPs who were displaced from the valley? Wiki says about 2 lakhs.

That should be about the rough number that got displaced from Kashmir during the dark decades. This would also include some of the folks who had already moved out but were counted as displaced due to name still on ration card etc.

He says he has now been invited.
Invited by both Prez and Modi, says Omar
Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah today said he has been invited by both President Pranab Mukherjee and Prime Minister-designate Narendra Modi to attend the latter’s swearing-in ceremony.

My 4 anna:

Dr. Ambedkar refused to draft #Article370. Under 370, male Kashmiri Muslims live off the rest of India's appeasement. pic.twitter.com/YqhK1dqK2L

The Islamist @abdullah_omar abuses the spirit of India's Dalit father Dr. Ambedkar's principled stand on #Article370. pic.twitter.com/9Xkxs7ErKh

Dear @abdullah_omar, read the Preamble to the Constitution to get an idea of how provisional #Article370 was and what was its intent. 1/n

.@abdullah_omar It is YOU politicians who are irresponsible, misusing #Article370 to keep Kashmir separate instead of integrating it. 2/n

.@abdullah_omar Constitutions are living documents for nations with a conscience - not legalistic shariah running on obedient automatons.3/n

.@abdullah_omar #Article370 was your 'taufeeq' for exemplary statesmanship, to integrate India's only Muslim-majority province. You blew it.

.@abdullah_omar Long after even a memory of your family remains, Kashmir will still be with India - like it has been since time immemorial.

Rascals squeal. "@abdullah_omar fumes - Modi’s minister Jitendra Singh says process of abrogating #Article370 begins"

Omar fumes as Modi’s minister Jitendra Singh says ‘process of abrogating Article 370 has begun’

.@abdullah_omar's moral self-confidence is seen when he couldn't accept a cordial invite to @PMOIndia's oath-taking & meet face to face.

.@abdullah_omar balked at @PMOIndia's cordial invite, but he goes hyper on twitter. Chill bhai. Ask your Sheikh if opium is right for you.

Look at the reaction it evoked in the muslims of kashmir & their agents to the idea of merely discussing & debating A-370.
if A-370 cannot be repealed for some reason, we can do the following :

1. Reduce / change the scope / weaken the A-370 clauses
Say that A-370 hence will be applicable only to the residents of that part of kashmir which is under illegal occupation of pk & china. (externalise the problem ! )
A-370 will be applicable only to sunnis of the kashmir valley . They will not apply to the rest of the Kashmiri people. (demographic limitation)
A-370 is limited only to the srinagar city limits .(geographical limitation).
A-370 will remain in effect only till 2018 (Time limitation)

In short , MODIfy the A-370 if you cannot ELIMINATE A-370.
Kashmir needs fundamental MODIfication.

Just scrap the bloody Article.
Anyways just scrapping the article will not mean people from rest of India rushing into settle down in Kashmir.
Like Jamwal mentioned few pages back, why would ordinary Abdul go and settle down in Kashmir when you don't have any industry or other avenues of raising money except for govt jobs and tourist industry..
Most likely influx would be of RE agents rushing into buy land for Hotels..

Unless GoI can make it attractive to settle down in Kashmir, I doubt if the plan of settling millions like Hans in Tibet would really be flying.
