Pak-US try to patch up growing rift

WASHINGTON: Pakistan's foreign secretary Salman Bashir arrived here on Thursday for talks to salvage ties with the United States a day after the top American general virtually called the country a terrorist sponsor and provoked a strong rebuff from Army chief Pervez Kayani.

The verbal flare-up between the militaries of the two sides, which followed numerous civilian spats, is weighing down a visit that was meant to focus on what Pakistan's ambassador in Washington termed ''strategic convergences.'' Instead, Bashir and his counterparts in the state department are having to stop the two sides from diverging completely after two testy engagements that undermined a fraying alliance.

I am disapointed to read this deliberately made one sided story to make reader think that pakistan is a nothing but a beggeging country. My all indian friends this war costing Pakistani businesses more than 150 billion a year. Amarica paying paying for its own interests. Its plans 100 years ahead. They need to make this area stable for future wealth. Any way Where is the money which america claims been paid to Pak. Europe is together and no borders. Afsos wall between Pak India would never fall like berlin wall.

How can a nation still live without shame where the supreme court acquits gang rapists? Unbelievable!

Two points:

(a) If they are rational, they will think ten times before planning a terror attack again. It will also send a message to others who might be dreaming of attacking India. Negative feedback is useful.

(b) If they are not rational, it is better to kill them. Right? Because in future, they might plan something worse. Killing irrational terrorists decreases the probability of future attacks.

Khaled Ahmed lets the cat out of the bag. Ejaz Haider, a former TFT columnist, is a TSPA lackey.

Taking on the Americans

Khaled Ahmed
On both counts, the drones and spies, Pakistan doesn't have a position which will resonate with international opinion. It is possible that even the Chinese may be sceptical about jihadi organisations Pakistan is nurturing under its skirt

Pakistan army has been debating Farhat Taj, a columnist of Daily Times doing a PhD at the University of Oslo and currently writing a book, Taliban and Anti-Taliban, over its claim that the drones were unpopular with the people of the Tribal Areas and that Ms Taj’s claim that, instead of fighting the Taliban and defending the local population in the Tribal Areas, the army was actually siding with the Taliban. Taj who claims to have done field work in the areas affected by the drones and where the local tribes are willing to fight the Taliban, has published her latest piece on how the army is actually supporting the Taliban and helping them to take over the tribal agencies in ( Daily Times 16 April 2011).

When he says TSPA is debating Farhat Taj, he's talking about the back and forth between Ejaz Haider and Farhat Taj on the op-ed pages of sethi's rag.

The latest blunder committed was the entrapment of Raymond Davis without a think-through on how the incident would be made to conclude. The next challenge the Pakistan army will bring on itself is the blocking of the NATO supplies. How will the burning of NATO trucks conclude? That is the question that the army should answer now before Imran Khan and the religious fanatics start torching them.

This makes it clear that Imran Khan has been "chosen" by the TSPA.

Brad Goodman wrote:LeT also killing Pakistanis: Asfandyar Wali Khan

New Delhi, Apr 21: Awami National Party (ANP) chief Asfandyar Wali Khan on Thursday said India should not hold Pakistan responsible for the terror attacks carried out by the Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) terror outfit, as they even kill Pakistani army men and innocent citizens.

"India should not hold state responsible for the acts of non-state actors. The same outfit is also killing Pakistani army men and innocent citizens," Khan told reporters here making a reference to the Lashkar-e-Toiba, which masterminded the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks.

Asfandyar Wali Khan, being the grandson of Shri Bachcha Khan, wants India desperately. He had been the target of several attacks before from the 'most pious'. He even lived in London for some time to escape their wrath and then in the Presidential palace in Islamabad. He is a marked man and will not be able to escape the retribution of the 'flowing beards'.

All said and done, his pleading with India is silly. India will still hold Pakistan responsible for helping and assisting the LeT through its Army and the ISI; India will still hold Pakistan responsible for denying the involvement of LeT in 26/11 for a long time without making any attempts to investigate; India will still hold Pakistan responsible for not prosecuting the 26/11 case in the Anti Terrorism Court; India will still hold Pakistan responsible for rejecting all the evidence it presented in the seven dossiers; India will still hold Pakistan responsible for allowing Prof. Hafeez Saeed to preach and practice jihad against India and collecting funds for the same openly; India will hold Pakistan responsible for enacting the farcical drama of 'banning' LeT in circa 2002 but officially allowing it to operate freely in PoK and FATA etc.. etc..

Lashkar-I-Taiba: The Fallacy of Subservient Proxies and the Future of Islamist Terrorism in India

PDF, Source

Brief Synopsis

A discussion of the foundation of Lashkar-i-Taiba (LeT), the development of its modus operandi, and engages in an investigation of LeT’s activities in India, Pakistan, and the Kashmir region are discussed. Further, LeT’s fundraising methods are touched upon, and LeT’s relationships with regional state and nonstate actors such as Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) and Dawood Ibrahim’s D-Company are analyzed. Also, the impact that these developments have on domestic Islamist terrorism in India are addressed. The author argues that although LeT has been a vital component of Islamabad’s regional strategy in the past, the organization has grown beyond the control of its former patron, is largely self-sufficient and operates independently of the political process, and has expanded its agenda well beyond Kashmir. These developments challenge the long-held notion that irregulars can be sustainably used to achieve limited objectives in an asymmetric conflict and should serve as a clear warning to other state sponsors of terrorism. However, contrary to many analyses, LeT is not likely to sacrifice its independence and come under Al-Qaeda’s umbrella. Rather, LeT will continue to evolve into a distinctive, South Asia-centric terrorist actor in its own right while still receiving aid from fringe elements in Pakistan’s security and intelligence apparatus and elsewhere. This will not only allow LeT to continue to plan future Mumbai-style terrorist attacks in India from safe havens in Pakistan, but will also allow LeT to guide and assist the predominantly indigenous Indian Mujahideen (IM).

New Delhi, Apr 21: Awami National Party (ANP) chief Asfandyar Wali Khan on Thursday said that there is a need to revisit the blasphemy law.

"No law is absolutely good or flawed, scarping the blasphemy law is one thing, we actually want to revisit the law and see what changes can be brought," said Khan.

U.S. still has options for drones if denied use of Pakistani bases
ol. Dean Bushey, deputy director of the Army’s Joint Unmanned Aircraft Systems Center of Excellence, told an international-relations conference Wednesday that U.S. Reaper and Predator aircraft could still reach the “mountainous regions” of Pakistan without being based in that country.

Douglas Barrie, a senior fellow for military aerospace at the IISS, said in an interview, that “If the question is ‘Would losing basing in Pakistan cripple operations against al Qaeda?’ the answer is ‘no.’ It would, however, increase the demand on unmanned vehicles. You would likely need more unmanned aerial vehicles to sustain the same number of orbits because of having to transit further distances.”

The hatemongering owner and editor of The News, Majid Nizami has a big time hissy fit about Hindu’s of the Baniya caste, Indian electricity and Indian ballistic missiles.

Should he not have said “Our missiles are like goats” rather than “Our missiles are like horses” :?: :

Self-reliance to deter drone attacks

Published: April 22, 2011

…………… Editor-in-Chief The Nation Majid Nizami said Iqbal not only presented the idea of Two-Nation Theory but also convinced the Quaid-i-Azam to materialise this concept. He said the Pakistan resolution was adopted in 1940 on the basis of Iqbal’s Two-Nation Theory.

He said Hindu Banya did not accept Pakistan by heart and conspired to dismember it in 1971 by converting East Pakistan into Bangladesh. He said India was now targeting Pakistan in connivance with the US and Israel.

He said Pakistan was the only Islamic power with atom bomb, and it was our duty to beak the hands of India. Nizami said India was planning to build hydel projects on the Kashmir rivers to sell electricity to Pakistan and “our secretary trade has shamefully said Pakistan will consider the offer.” “We curse on electricity coming from India”, he averred.

He said Pakistan’s nuclear missiles were superior to those possessed by India. “Our missiles are like horses (In the words of the Holy Quran) and their’s are like donkeys.” ………………….

Many things are missing here.
I have been following the reports on articles related to LeT for the last 10 years.

In the 90s there was data such as it was created in 1986 or even earlier and US army trained them and worked with the dawa. Recently all the reports only say that it is grown bigger and now it is independent in a sovereign country and it can do what it pleases in the rest of the world including India. It is a super group which can do what ever it wants to do and now it can also work with Indian muslims.

It is as if they are leading this organization to play a role which they have planned 20 years ago.

What they used to do for cold war.
This is the first big show they did for Pakistan and found that it gave them dividends in the islamic world

1954 show for L Ali was the first state visit and that was to spite JLN.
1961 was for the cold war and their bases in Peshawer AF and spying against Soviet Union

Abhishekji thank you for posting this paper.
I recall having visited the markazdawa.org (LeT's parent) website (subsequently taken down after being banned) in the late 90's when LeT first introduced suicide attacks in the Kashmir valley. They had clear 'mission' and 'vision' statements published back then. Wresting Kashmir was the first step, followed by conquering India, then establishing an Islamic crescent from Turkey to South East Asia. US was to be the final frontier. The aim was that by 2100, Islam should be the only remaining religion.

So it is not recently that the LeT agenda has expanded beyond Kashmir.

P.S. I have been trying to locate any archived markazdawa.org website pages but have not had much luck.
The wayback machine has archived pages from markazdawa but not all the pages load fully and have not been able to find time to search through the entire list.

My muglai salam to the babu(s) who proposed that India sell Pakistan electricity generated from the rivers in Kashmir.

The pakistan didn't take that well at all.
According to the pakistani discourse, those rivers, that water, that land belongs to the ghazis by virtue of their left hand possession.

And a kafir bunniya dares suggest that India steal their water and sell them electricity as a sop for them to shut up hain?
I'll bet that electricity that India sells them will have kufr vibes to decrease the martial manhoods oph the ghazis.

Is this the same drone strike as the one that killed 5 then 21 mentioned above or a new strike?

I have question.

Who exactly are the americans killing with the drone hits hain ji?
The terrorist bosses are not in the badlands. They are probably holed up in ISI safehouses in Peshawar, Quetta, or even Karachi. These guys are probably in touch with the local commanders and foot soldiers via phones.

The drones are only killing the foot soldiers, and their local commanders. These guys are dime-a-dozen and are easily replaceable.

If the US is really interested in seriously ending these attacks, they have to take out the bosses sitting in safehouses. Unless the bossess' arses are on fire, they won't creep out and negotiate with the CIA. The US has to prove that they are a bigger goonda than the ISI. These guys have to be made to understand that there is a future if they collaborate with the US, under pain of death.

The understanding is that the taliban on the ground can see and hear the Reapers and Predators approaching.

How does the US keep tabs on them?
1. The US has complete control over every land line, cellphone and sat phone in that area. NSA probably monitors everything.
2. Global Hawk flies higher and has immense stamina, and is probably the initial eyes and ears before the lower flying Reapers move in.
3. Agents on the ground - locals, taliban members themselves, ISI agents themselves are all involved in passing out information. The CIA has announced awards for information, and if you are a pakistani in present day pakistan, there is some money to be made by selling any tid-bit of info that you come across.

Pak nuclear missiles are horses as compared to ‘donkey-like’ Indian rockets: Nizami
"Our missiles are like horses (In the words of the Holy Quran) and theirs are like donkeys," The Nation quoted Nizami, as saying at an Iqbal Day function.

Nizami also said that the Pakistan resolution was adopted in 1940 on the basis of Iqbal's Tow-Nation Theory, and alleged that the Hindu Banya did not accept Pakistan by heart and conspired to dismember it in 1971 by converting East Pakistan into Bangladesh.

Pakistan is the only Islamic power with atom bomb, and it is the duty of Pakistanis to break the hands of India, he added. :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

Gagan, at least the babus tried to sell only electricity produced from the waters that belong to the left hand, but the babu's babu is reported to be trying to sell the waters to the right hand now. See the post in IWT thread.

Some Americans clearly had problems with the Indus Water treaty.
