It was spot on the path. It proves all the parameters and capabilities of missile. It'll take another 2 years to re validate these parameters.: Dr. Avinash Chander, Scientific Adviser to RM

Avinashji - Perfect launch and splash down. Reentry technology mastered. Outstanding accuracy. Ships captured visuals of reentry and splashdown. Were very close to point of impact. cep def less than 100 m.

the RV splashdown would be good to watch only if launch had taken place last night. would be a blazing line of light coming from the sky.

This is most likely a depressed trajectory parabolic (that is not shot at an optimum angle). All the talk about "mastering RV technology" indicates a truly hellish reentry regime for this test (since RV spends lot of time in atmosphere during ascent as well as descent for a depressed trajectory)

It couldn't have been the fastest ever Indian missile any other way.

Hmm....I never deviated from the official quote on the range.....but for the first time here i'm taking a step out of the official line. Indeed, this is a 8000 + km puppy, sorry giant.

Sadly the NDTV anchor in this video typifies the Indian sense of inadequacy and anxieties about Indians and Indian tech when he says "You must have been very worried last light and maybe you did not sleep" That is painting an assumed picture which typically illustrates one's own anxieties about the possibility of failure.

After a successful commando raid you can ask the commando "How did it feel. Were you scared?" and let the man speak his mind. You do not say "You must have been shitting brix and wet your pants" The development of a national sense of confidence depends on the media in not putting their own anxieties in their words

"China issues a demarche. India worried"
"India anxiously asks the Chinese what they are doing"
China roars. Pakistan gives an angry retort. India cheeps. India chrips.

This is how our media talk and they reflect Indians in India talking about India

5000+ doesn't necessarily mean 5000 to 6000. Technically it can be any number > 5000 :)

simulated explosion using conventional HE or a smoke bomb is good. in real life a radar altimeter is supposed to work for a 1.5km altitude airburst as all n-weapons are generally denotated up in the air for max effects.

3 x BGRV and 400KT each in the style of topol-M would be awesome. given our lowish warhead inventory, a 10X mirv poses problems in headcount....I want HD video of it next time as the yellow line of flame screams across the sky from horizon to horizon. cancel christmas, get those HD vidcams and the D800s onsite!

Actually, the report sounds very very childish. There is no maturity in the article whatsoever.

In Wings of Fire, Kalam writes about the 5000km ICBM as the IGMP's goal set in 1984.

BTW, I heard he used to show trajectory calcs to Vikram Sarabhai in the mid sixties! So that is the heritage. In those days he was known as the crazy young man with a mop of hair who had instant access to the big chief!

Ramana, was surprised to hear that from the Admiral first, but then he should know and must be in the loop. It was nice of Dr Chander to give a longish interview and it said all, that us aam aadmi need to know.
