More UK voters agree with Corbyn that Britain's overseas warring has led to blowback at home. Will he be able to spring one of the most unexpected surprises ever in the election? Young UK voters may hold the key.

http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/po ... 76276.html
Majority of British voters agree with Corbyn's claim UK foreign policy increases risk of terrorism
Interventions in Iraq, Afghanistan and Libya have made atrocities on UK soil more likely, majority of public believe

Some 68 per cent of Tory voters agreed foreign wars have enhanced the risks of terrorism at home PA
An overwhelming majority of people agree with Jeremy Corbyn that British involvement in foreign wars has put the public at greater risk of terrorism, according to a new poll.

The exclusive ORB survey for The Independent found 75 per cent of people believe interventions in Iraq, Afghanistan and Libya have made atrocities on UK soil more likely.

The poll – conducted before Saturday night’s devastating attack – comes after Mr Corbyn was lambasted for suggesting foreign policy decisions were linked to terrorism in the UK and that the “war on terror” had failed.

The deadly strike at London Bridge and Borough Market, the third attack in Britain in as many months, has seen security dominate the final days of the election campaign, with cabinet ministers squabbling over whether it could have been stopped.

Corbyn condemns foreign wars while RAF send Love from Manchester bomb
Theresa May’s record as Home Secretary has been questioned and she has faced a call to resign over the matter from Mr Corbyn, not to mention a former aide to ex-Prime Minister David Cameron.

In the wake of the Manchester attack, which killed 22 people last month, the Labour leader highlighted the potential role foreign military interventions play in increasing the likelihood of atrocities in the UK.

Despite experts like Baroness Eliza Manningham-Bullerformer, a former MI5 chief, and Baroness Pauline Neville-Jones, ex-chair of the Joint Intelligence Committee, expressing similar views, he was accused by Conservatives of making excuses for terrorism.

But the ORB survey for The Independent found three-quarters of people – taking in all age groups, political persuasions and social classes – agreed Britain’s military involvement in Iraq, Afghanistan and Libya had increased the risk of terrorist acts.

Within that, some 68 per cent of Tory voters agreed foreign wars have enhanced the risks of terrorism at home. So did 80 per cent of Labour supporters and 79 per cent of people that voted for the Liberal Democrats in 2015.

On the campaign trail on Tuesday, Conservative cabinet ministers Amber Rudd and Boris Johnson – who have a history of antagonism – clashed after it emerged that one of the London Bridge attackers was allowed to “slip through the net”.

When Foreign Secretary Mr Johnson made the comment, Home Secretary Ms Rudd, responsible for the security services, hit back: “It’s not really for me, or for the Foreign Secretary, to say how that happened or what happened.”

The fallout from the London Bridge massacre, which left seven dead, has also seen former police officers attack heavy cuts suffered by forces across the country – with official figures showing a drop of 20,000 since Ms May took charge at the Home Office in 2010.

Jim Gamble, former head of Special Branch in Belfast, said there were now “fewer eyes and ears on the street”, former Met senior inspecting officer Peter Kirkham said the police service was “in crisis” due to cuts, while a serving officer writing for The Independent said Saturday’s attack was in part a consequence of the reductions.

Questioned over Ms May’s responsibility and whether she should resign, Mr Corbyn said earlier this week: “Indeed I would.

“There’s been calls made by a lot of very responsible people on this, who are very worried that she was at the Home Office for all this time, presided over these cuts in police numbers and is now saying that we have a problem – yes, we do have a problem, we should never have cut the police numbers.”

General Election polls and projections: 6 June
It followed a similar call from David Cameron’s former policy guru Steve Hilton who accused Ms May of “shifting blame” and said she should resign over “security failures”.

The Prime Minister was repeatedly challenged over her record as Home Secretary at an election campaign event in London on Monday in which she told reporters: “Cressida Dick [Met Commissioner] has said that the Metropolitan Police are well resourced – and they are, she has said they have very powerful counter-terrorism capabilities – and they do.

“We have protected counter-terrorism policing budgets, we have funded an uplift in the number of armed police officers.”

London attack is latest atrocity linked to Anjem Choudary's network
Despite Labour’s promise to recruit an extra 10,000 officers, the ORB poll conducted before Saturday found that twice as many people, some 44 per cent, believe the Conservatives have the best policy on security, including terrorism and defence, compared to Labour’s 21 per cent.

With Mr Corbyn hit with constant questions over his approach to the UK’s nuclear deterrent, even 19 per cent of Labour’s voters from 2015 believe the Tories have the best policy on security, as do 36 per cent of those who voted Liberal Democrat last time.

Seven out of 10 over-65s said the Tories have the best security policies, while only 9 per cent named Labour. The only age group to give Labour a lead on the issue was 25 to 34-year-olds.

Despite the terror deaths in the middle of the election campaign, security does not appear likely to be a major influence when people decide how to vote.

Only 8 per cent said it will be the most important issue – fewer than Brexit, the economy, the NHS and who is the best candidate for prime minister – but more than the number citing social care and education. However, the London Bridge attack, coming so close to polling day, could change that.

ORB interviewed online 2,038 people adults aged 18+ throughout the UK on 31 May and 1 June

Waking up too late. Now she may not win the elections and Labour leader will not do anything against the terror. Just like that idiot, Carter lost on Iran mess, May may lose on Londanisthan mess. She was the Home Secretary and therefore can not escape the blame.

As long as their trajectory is downward into the shiite they deserve to be in, I would be happy whoever wins or loses.

They should live up to the "secular "ideals that they demand of us though. It is very important that they need more secularism, just like Bakistan needs more Islam.

Labour, if it comes to power, will allow Jihadis to flourish. It is not that May is not weak, she is now forced to take some hard decisions. Such steps will not be there under the Labour.

I question the report (previous page) about UK sending ships to help WestPakis during Dec. 71 war into Bay of Bangla (never heard of this during the time when I was old enough to read newspapers, and the reports about the USS Enterprise and 7th Fleet were very loud and clear). It IS true that the UK sent ships to East Pakistan coast after the cyclone of 1969/70 left hundreds of thousands dead and the WestPaki sh1ts did not move a muscle to help. About a week or so after the event, with no other help evident, there was a report that UK Marines ignored protocol and went ashore to some of the islands where people were dying of thirst, and helped a few. But in December 71 there was no report of any UK anything: note that the buggers could have intercepted and passed on IAF/IN communications because those were mostly then dominated by Sandhurst alums - what-what-I-say types. The equipment was also mostly British pass-down, except for the MiGs and Sukhois. Look what happened when Argentina tried using NATO stuff against Poodlestan.

In Dec. 71, UK would have been a bit concerned about USSR reaction: they could have sunk the entire British Navy.

The account about HMS Eagle moving up to India's territorial waters during 1971 war is per a Russian documentary quoting a Soviet intelligence report.
Igor (a brfite) did a translation of the video in his blog.
Historic document: "Confident. December, 10, 1971. Moscow. For the DM Marshal Andrey Grechko. According to the information from our attaché in Delhi in the first day of conflict the Indian destroyer 'Rajput' has sunk a Pakistani submarine by depth charges. In December, 4 and 9, the Indian fast boats have destroyed and damaged 10 Pakistani battle ships and vessels by the P-15 missiles. In addition 12 oil storages was burned in flame. The Commander of the Military Intelligence Service Gen. Pyotr Ivashutin".

In the same day the Soviet Intelligence has reported that the British Naval group with the leadership of 'Eagle' carrier went closer to the territorial waters of India. The Soviet Government immediately sent a unit of battle ships under the leadership of counter-admiral Vladimir Kruglyakov for helping to the fraternal country.

Another corroborating account by the crew/captain of HMS eagle about ops supporting Pakistan in Indian ocean in mid December 1971.However he claims that HMS Eagle was "onlee" anchored off near Masira island off Oman.
Our intended visit to
Mombasa was also cancelled and we
remained off Masira until mid-Decem-
ber.
It was then decided that three air-
craft with five crews should be detached
to HMS ALBION to assist in the evacuation
of foreign nationals from East Pakistan.

By the time ALBION had reached the
southern tip of India, the evacuees had
already been flown out. After a brief
visit to Gan, ALBION sailed for South
Africa where the three aircraft were
flown back to EAGLE in Durban harbour.
For the crews and aircraft that had
remained in EAGLE a reasonable amount
of flying was done, including the last
CASEX of the commission.

It's probably true that Briturds did gunboat diplomacy on IG using the likes of HMS Eagle during 1971 Indo-Pak war.Eagle was meant to intervene if India moved onto West Pak.

Had the Eagle attempted to intervene in W.Pak,she would've had an exciting but short life! OUr Foxtrot subs were off the Paki coast with strict orders to sink only confirmed Paki targets avoiding ships of other nations. After the naval attacks on Karachi,Lloyds and other insurers went off the screen in premiums for insuring merchantmen heading for Pak. We had established a virtual "cordon sanitaire" of Pak from the sea.Our missile craft, rearmed and with air support too, would've along with our subs sent the Eagle to the bottom of the Arabian Sea in days. It is also worth examining what the eagle could do with a limited no. of aircraft, with limited range to affect any land war between India and Pak taking place hundreds of kms away and even further in J&K! All that she could do would've been helping Pak defend Karachi and thus end up being a sitting duck for Indian naval and air combined forces. Russian naval forces could've shadowed any US/UK subs forces etc. trying to support the Eagle.

Moreover,Indian subs and aircraft could've very easily mined Karachi and other Paki ports, rendering them useless for resupply of the Paki military in any
land battle in the Western theatre. The Paki war machine without essential fuel and supplies for mil and civil needs, would've come to a grinding halt.
In the Kargil War,had a full-blown conflict erupted, the Paki war machine had stocks of fuel according to us for just 10-14 days, which is why they went begging to Uncle Sam for the war to end,as thus far, ABV had not crossed the LOC/intl border which would've happened had they not succumbed.

May heading for a massive win,say all polls, despite late surge by Corbyn/Labour.The gap in support when the election was announced appeares to be too large to bridge by Labour.

Election poll latest: Theresa May to win biggest Tory landslide since Thatcher, final survey predicts
Exclusive: Eve-of-vote poll by ComRes for The Independent gives Ms May a 10-point lead, indicating an 74-seat majority
Joe Watts and John Rentoul
Theresa May looks on course for a definitive victory over Jeremy Corbyn in the general election, as the final poll for The Independent shows her party enjoying a 10-point lead over Labour.

If the figures in the ComRes poll are replicated on Thursday, projections indicate a concrete 74-seat majority – the largest the Conservatives have secured since the days of Margaret Thatcher.

But the survey also gives key insights as to where Mr Corbyn could have fallen short, despite Labour having halved the Conservative lead since the start of the election campaign.

Nine in 10 voters reject May's claim election is all about Brexit
The survey shows a majority of the public raising concerns over Mr Corbyn's ability to pay for his spending promises and his approach to security and Brexit, while many also believe there is now a need for a new centre-ground political party in the UK.

Ms May, Mr Corbyn and Liberal Democrat leader Tim Farron all made last-ditch pleas for votes as they travelled the country in a frenetic final day of campaigning, but the ComRes poll suggests the Tories have sealed the deal.

It puts the Conservatives on 44 per cent of the vote, down three points, Labour on 34 per cent, down one, the Liberal Democrats on 9 per cent, Ukip on 5 per cent and the Greens on 2 per cent, all up one.

London attack: Football fan shouted 'F*** you, I’m Millwall' and took on knife-wielding terrorists with his bare fists
Calls for Roy Larner, the 'Lion of London Bridge', to be given a medal after reportedly saving lives and making Millwall fans popular by single-handedly taking on the three attackers

Adam Lusher
The Independent Online
Roy Larner
There is now a petition calling for Roy Larner to be awarded the George Cross Twitter
A football fan reportedly yelled “F**k you, I’m Millwall” as he single-handedly took on the three knife-wielding London terror attackers armed with nothing more than his fists.

Roy Larner has already been hailed a hero, with a petition launched for him to be awarded the George Cross medal for his actions in the Black and Blue steakhouse on Saturday night.

In fighting back, the 47-year-old Millwall fan gave dozens of others who were in the Borough Market restaurant the chance to escape.

Londoners join together for vigil after terror attack
Now out of the intensive care ward of St Thomas’ Hospital, where he was treated for knife wounds all over his body including his neck, the father-of-one has told The Sun how he reacted when the killers burst into the restaurant shouting “Islam, Islam” and “This is for Allah”.

Nurse killed in London attack 'ran towards danger’ to help people
“Like an idiot,” he told the newspaper, “I shouted back at them. I thought, ‘I need to take the p*** out of these b******s’.”

“I took a few steps towards them and said, ‘F*** you, I’m Millwall’. So they started attacking me.”

Mr Larner added: “I stood in front of them trying to fight them off. Everyone else ran to the back.

“I was on my own against all three of them, that’s why I got hurt so much.

“It was just me, trying to grab them with my bare hands and hold on. I was swinging.

“I got stabbed and sliced eight times. They got me in my head, chest and both hands. There was blood everywhere.

“They were saying, ‘Islam, Islam!’. I said again, ‘F*** you, I’m Millwall!’
:rotfl:

“It was the worst thing I could have done as they carried on attacking me.

“Luckily, none of the blows were straight at me or I’d be dead.”

Mr Larner’s actions have won him a huge following on social media, where he has been called “The Lion of London Bridge”, a reference to Millwall Football Club’s nickname the Lions.

Fans of the south London club have long prided themselves on their refusal to duck a fight, celebrating their intimidating reputation with the chant: “No-one likes us, we don’t care.”

Mr Larner’s bravery, however, seems suddenly to have made Millwall fans popular.

On Good Morning Brtitain, presenter Piers Morgan, a fan of rival London club Arsenal, told viewers: “Millwall fans get a very bad rap, a lot of it very deserved, but there are times when you really want a lot of Millwall fans, and that was one of them.”

Looks like you have a reason to like #Millwall now @piersmorgan ...
2:07 PM - 6 Jun 2017

Mr Larner has certainly made his mother proud.

Phyllis Larner, 78, told The Sun: “He’s fearless, my son. He’ll give as good as he gets.

“He’s quite nippy and lippy and wouldn’t back down from a fight.

“He wouldn’t care who it was or if they had a knife or gun.”

Mr Larner, from Peckham, south-east London, said the attackers eventually “ran out of the pub and legged it”.

Despite his injuries, he said he followed them outside.

“It wasn’t until I was in a police car,” said Mr Larner, “That I realised I was in a bad way. I’d been sliced up all over.”

“I didn’t think of my safety at the time,” he added. “I’d had four or five pints — nothing major.

“I can handle myself. But I was out with an old person and it was out of order.”

As he recovers in hospital, Mr Larner’s friends have brought him a running magazine. The front cover headline reads: “Learn to run.”

would not be surprised if certain journalists in india are well compensated in benami a/c abroad

https://www.theguardian.com/world/2009/ ... -mi5-italy

Archived documents have revealed that Mussolini got his start in politics in 1917 with the help of a £100 weekly wage from MI5.

For the British intelligence agency, it must have seemed like a good investment. Mussolini, then a 34-year-old journalist, was not just willing to ensure Italy continued to fight alongside the allies in the first world war by publishing propaganda in his paper. He was also willing to send in the boys to "persuade'' peace protesters to stay at home.
......

As well as keeping the presses rolling at Il Popolo d'Italia, the newspaper he edited, Mussolini also told Hoare he would send Italian army veterans to beat up peace protesters in Milan, a dry run for his fascist blackshirt units.

"The last thing Britain wanted were pro-peace strikes bringing the factories in Milan to a halt. It was a lot of money to pay a man who was a journalist at the time, but compared to the £4m Britain was spending on the war every day, it was petty cash," said Martland.

On similar lines, a teacher of mine once said that Churchill got intelligence reports about japanese invasion of pearl harbor, but he deliberately didn't alert the americans. This is because UK was seeing massive destruction and would need US to join the WW 2. Being too proud to ask US for help ( sun never sets on brit empire heh), he knew any attack on pearl harbor, the US will actively join the war and thus will help britain.

After any terrorist attack or any incident in UK, media is compelled to find a hero. Guy running with beer mug was stupid at best but he was portrayed as patriot British. WTF. They tried to do same with navy personnel taken hostage by Iranians not long ago. These fools descended from plane and stood proud as if they have just came from space station. Book deal was almost done. It was stopped by some cool heads and they were thrown out of an interview on TV......literally.

Do you think Queendom Deep State let them off for future use?

Can't be so much incompetence.

Some former Met Pol chief was on a US radio show and said they have 20,000 suspects on watch and about a 100 investigations a week going on.

Very few actual perpetrators are taken alive and rest is usual round of family and friends who all get let off after the hubbub dies down.

Archived documents have revealed that Mussolini got his start in politics in 1917 with the help of a £100 weekly wage from MI5.

......

Looks like Samuel Hoare was quite a busy man in WWI. He was also running the Moscow station for MI6 not MI5. A book says his gang killed Rasputin to remove his influence on the Tsar family. Above report talks about GB concern after Russia withdrew from the Allies in 1917.
Hoare shows up again in WWII as Minister for Neville Chamberlain.
All along his career he was an intelligence guy.

i wondered about why few people fought back - apart from the shock, it seems that the 3 men all attacked 1 victim at the same time - so they had almost no chance to fight back. appears that 1 lone police man took them on with a baton.
cc tv footage leak shows armed police getting out of car, jehadis rush towards them and 6 seconds later all are lining up for the 72

IndraD, There are Twitter posts about cops who fought them with out guns.

Also the three had fake suicide vests so that could have deterred some from getting too close.

British election exit polls reveal lead for May’s Conservatives, but surprisingly close contest with Corbyn’s Labour

British PM May is short of a majority, set to win 314 seats: exit poll

---

Prime Minister Theresa May will win 314 seats in Britain's election, short of a majority in the 650-seat parliament, according to an exit poll released shortly after voting ended.

The nationwide exit poll conducted for major broadcasters predicted 266 seats for the opposition Labour Party run by socialist campaigner Jeremy Corbyn, 34 for the Scottish National Party and 14 for the Liberal Democrats.

So SNP will get importance.

May is now weaker than before calling the elections.
The terrorist attacks weakened her.
She needs 12 to form the govt.

I don't know total Scottish seats.

June marks the end of May

On a more serious note, the rivals are circling now. But good riddance

"And that job, as home secretary for six years, was frequently about clamping down hard on immigration. At one point, her department hired vans to tour Indian-dominated areas of London with big ‘Go Home’ signs that were apparently aimed at illegal immigrants. Only 11 people actually left the country as a result. But it didn’t matter because the British media was willing to overlook her mistakes as long as she talked tough on immigration."
