Indian Space Programme Discussion
Re: Indian Space Programme Discussion
The actual curves don't seem to align with the expected curves. Is something wrong?
Re: Indian Space Programme Discussion
^ Telemetry info is not perfect at the low altitudes so the lines may not align towards the end. With main chute open it's on its way home safely.
Re: Indian Space Programme Discussion
Also failure or success is defined in terms of accomplishment or not of the goals.

Re: Indian Space Programme Discussion
congrats ISRO... awaiting final confirmation
Re: Indian Space Programme Discussion
some duct tape and cheap gopro-hd camera on the payload stage looking down would generate the much needed psyops footage.
but it remains a gaping hole.

Re: Indian Space Programme Discussion
we dont need to try for cheap H&D... the success of the mission speaks for itself. Actually ISRO has multiple cameras capturing footage... it is just not available for Mango Abduls like us.

A go pro camera would be rattled to Smithereens by the vibration I am pretty sure they will have cameras etc but will not be releasing it to public. In fact in one of the GSLV launches they did mention they have cameras inside to record events.

Waiting for Video and Photos... mission director has promise that we will be seeing these soon.

The perils becoming an uninformed keyboard commando. I thought that it was a satellite launch mission
When it was a more vital mission.
Am just happy that the mission was successful.

Looks like ISRO had placed cameras to record the stage separation.. We may have a look in few days..

I don't think anyone shows the separation videos live from the vehicle. There will surely be things that we don't want to show everyone since this is a cutthroat business and we will see a properly edited version in time.

Re: Indian Space Programme Discussion
So we used a dummy stage instead of cryogenic stage which is still under development. Next stop is testing of cryogenic stage I suppose.

ISRO chairman said they'll be back in March for the launch of PSLV.
Wasn't GSLV MkII (D6) supposed to be launched in Jan 2015 ?

Yes a dummy stage. They are still validating that engine.

Re: Indian Space Programme Discussion
You remembered it correctly Ankar! After the last IRNSS mission, ISRO said that another IRNSS will be launched by year end, or early January, followed by a GSLV, probably in March. Now, the next PSLV is being pushed back to March 2015, and that means the GSLV will take another month at least. I wish they wouldn't make these awfully inaccurate projections, which only disappoint, if not dismay, the public!Ankar wrote:ISRO chairman said they'll be back in March for the launch of PSLV.

Anyway, hearty congratulations on the GLSV Mark 3/Care mission. At least, they were accurate on the date of this launch, as well as the GSAT-16.
Re: Indian Space Programme Discussion
Is the LVM3's payload potential dictated primarily by the capability of the cryo stage ? The current parameters are a 200 kN CE-20 stage , and a payload potential of 5000 kgs to GTO. How are these numbers impacted by changes to the capability of the cryo stage ?
Re: Indian Space Programme Discussion
Ati sundar launch. Congratulations ISRO ..Proud of you !
Id been ogling at the test vid of S200 boosters from quite some time ...
To see 2 of them powering up the GSLV MK III was awesome .. The tree top view got fudged unfortunately by the DD cameraman ..
A very happy Jingo I am today !

Re: Indian Space Programme Discussion
No. That is what I have been saying. The bottleneck is the twin "WeakAss" engines in the L110 stage. Get rid of them and get in a LOX/Hydrocarbon stage and the payload to orbit nearly doubles! Is the LVM3's payload potential dictated primarily by the capability of the cryo stage ?

Congratulations ISRO! Congrats India!!
The mighty king has conquered his kingdom. I saw it live and it was spectacular launch.

Re: Indian Space Programme Discussion
What kind of thrust numbers does a semi-cryo stage 2 generate compared to the L110 ? And does improvment to the cryo stage have no incremental benefit to the payload ?
Re: Indian Space Programme Discussion
Got any pictures, aditya?

Congrats ISRO, my fellow jingos.. congrats everyone!!
What was the velocity of the CARE module at touchdown? Would love to see the videos of stage separation and touchdown of the CARE module!!!

Re: Indian Space Programme Discussion
It is not thrust alone, but the efficiency that matters. The semi cryo will have specific impulse of 330 to 360 s, while the best L110 can get to is 270s. That is a good 60s increase in specific impulse. Even if you replace the L110 with a semi cryo with the exact same thrust, the mass fraction (the final mass that gets taken to orbit) will see a dramatic improvement because of higher efficiency (all else being the same). What kind of thrust numbers does a semi-cryo stage 2 generate compared to the L110 ? And does improvment to the cryo stage have no incremental benefit to the payload ?
The only thing that can be done is to make the cryo stage fire longer and cut down the size of the L110. That is not optimal either, from a configuration and cost stand point.

Congrats to ISRO !!
So there is video of the S200 separation !! Hope it will be released soon
