an even better display today - much better camerawork, VERY complimentary commentary, BIG applause by the spectators.

looks like the redoubtable WS-13 quilong or kunlun that was supposed to match the RD93 was a flop and got scrapped at some point. TSP is going to use RD93 long term and are hoping to put in some european radar, avionics in future jf17 tranches.

with due respects to JF 17..its a chinese plane not paki... its in operational service...and if it has added capabilities to PAF..good luck to them. Onus is on us to manufacture Tejas in numbers ( hopefully by some private operator), integrate best of weaponry and sensors and put it in squadron service, refine tactics and other issues of maintenance, logisitcs. and seek of improve it with subsequent variants, seek export potential and ensure the aerospace industry flourishes. and when time comes it proves its mettle in combat.

Singha, with this agility + DASH HMS + R73E/Python 5 + AESA radar + Derby-ER and Astra + Litening pod + Griffin and Paveway LGB + SPJ...

And then datalinking, which was implemented on LUSH harriers too and allows third party designation of targets for BVR.

The LCA will be a Mirage 2000 equivalent in AF, if we get enough IFR capability.

What a small, powerful package.

Watched the Bahrain TV clip in Tejas FB page in Bed; a lovely thing to wake up to! Decent commentary as well; although felt like he was struggling to find any details to say. Overall, a good show.

why can't we block the sale of arms and parts to Pakistan? aren't we strong enough to emphasise this with all OEM's in india and abroad.? we are just not applying pressure. our enemies being strong is ok by us.

“Tejas is a pilot’s delight”
At 1550 hrs in Bahrain on Thursday, as the Sarang Advanced Light Helicopter (ALH) aerobatic team was winding down its performance, India’s Light Combat Aircraft Tejas took off with a roar, climbed almost vertically immediately and then displayed its capabilities for the next 10 minutes to a discerning audience of aviation enthusiasts.

The manoeuvres ranging from a square loop to a steep dive and from tight turns to two rolls demonstrated the arrival of a new, capable and potent kid on the military aviation scene.

Perhaps the world’s smallest lightweight, multi role single engine tactical fighter aircraft, Tejas has been long in the making but it’s performance in Bahrain – its first demo outside India – should leave no doubt about its capabilities.

As a Bahrain official remarked immediately after the Tejas flight, “We had only heard about the Tejas earlier but the way it demonstrated its capability today, we are happy that its international debut was here in Bahrain. It’s a winner by any standards.”

The two test pilots – Commodore Jaideep Maolankar and Group Capt Madhav Rangachari – too were happy! Speaking to BharatShakti immediately after completing the flight, a beaming Maolankar said, “It was a culmination of long hours of team work. Elated that it went off so well.” Rangachari added, “Given how hard all of us had worked and planned for this, there was never any doubt about Tejas performing so well.”

Both the aviators stressed on the fact that Tejas is a pilot’s delight. “Today, we can say Tejas has come of age,” both said in unison.

RA7D3345-1Dr. S Christopher, DG DRDO and secretary R&D, who has specially flown in to witness the Tejas flight, was more than happy. “Today we have demonstrated to the world that we are capable of producing a world class fighter plane. It was quite different from Tejas flying in Bangalore. Here a discerning audience was watching the performance very closely and my feedback is the curiosity has now only increased. As the RM has said we are ready to productionise the Tejas from next year. Already people are making enquiries about its capabilities. Our team work has paid off.”

B Balaji, head of the LCA programme at the Aeronautical Development Agency (ADA) pointed out that the participation in Bahrain enabled the team to achieve expansion of its flight envelope and test the upgraded flight control systems.

Air Vice Marshal J. Chalapati, Project Director at the National Flight Test Centre of the ADA too was satisfied with the performance. “The world wanted to know if Tejas is really the fourth generation plus fighter aircraft. Today they saw the proof.”

With the initial flights behind them, the Tejas team will fly the aircraft on Friday and Saturday too for the spectators at the show. On Saturday, India’s External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj is likely to be visit the show and witness the Tejas flight.

Thursday, 21st January will no doubt be recorded as a significant milestone in Tejas’ long and chequered history. From here on only sky is the limit for this indigenously designed, developed and manufactured combat aircraft.

Perhaps they don't know that a lot of Wind tunnel testing/FCS testing of Tejas has been done in US/Europe, and they practically know everything about it, or know enough from where they can easily extrapolate. Laws of Physics do not change.

Alan became persona non grata with a significant section of IAF during Parakram when he did a poorly disguised propaganda piece for his PAF sponsors. He promptly declared PAF would hold an edge because of this that bla bla...a few years later it came out that PAF didn't even have most of its new F7s operational and was having huge issues with Mirage 3 and F-16s.. he swallowed whatever bilge TSPAF gives him and regurgitates it because it helped boost AFM in UK where a lot of Non resident Pakistanis purchased the mag as long as it ran PAF PR..

Very good. Means Mk 83 type bombs in addition to HSLD, Russian, and UK origin.

IAF is getting serious about a/c shelters and hangers. Not just runways.

Kill them dead.

I want to see Griffin with HSLD.

A special reason.

^^^ You won't have to wait too long. Tender for Generation of Aerodynamic Loads on the Bomb As per Spc No. ARDE/ADM/450Griffin/Study/01.

They are actually studying the feasibility of increasing the carriage envelop of the kit with the 450 kg HSLD bomb.

Abhishek Shrivastava Sir, ADA site we have the number of sorties of LCA's diffrent version, But no flight information for SP-1. Is it flying somewhere?

Some observations that I made are:

1). It is small and very swift, as a result of which, it was difficult to capture its shots in camera in comparison to the other aircrafts
2). The diameter of 360 degree loop made by Tejas was shorter than that of F 16 & Mirage 2000 (naked eye observation)
3). The part of runway it took to take off was also shorter than the above mentioned birds (again naked eye observation)
4). Unlike the Sarang display team, there was very little awareness about this bird in the general public (Indians included). Unfortunately, the live commentary went off today owing to some technical snag just before Tejas took off to the skies,for the want of which, many people were left wondering as to which aircraft it is. I heard many people say that its a Saudi plane. One champion went on to say that it was JF 17 :wink:
5). Purely from the perspective of engaging the audience, bulk of which comprises of kids and those who have very little awareness about defense products, Tejas must use colored smoke instead of White.

It is really difficult on the eye. :-o

I think F-16's minimum radius turn is 1400 feet (425 mtrs). It finishes it in approximately 18 seconds or so. The fastest, I have seen till now is a Su-27 (1990 Farnborough) in about 14 seconds.

It was a deliberate move to do so. It shows off the TWR and wing loading of the plane.
