Just heard on one baki programs that Indian position overlook the Baki positions along about 60-70% of the LOC. So India has a tactical advantage on the LOC.

Pls forgive my naivety, and I know this was briefly mentioned on the last STFUP thread before it met its 72, but now they've announced and seem to have confirmed that the doddering old fool Sartaj Aziz is attending the Heart of Asia conference. Why is Indian Govt going to allow Pak to attend? Seems at odds with the multi-pronged strategy which includes diplomatic humilitation/isolation. Further, from the minute he lands on Indian soil, he will no doubt derail the purpose of these particular talks by going on incessantly about Kashmir being the root cause of global warming, trying to have Chai with the Hurriyat etc etc, and this will be portrayed as a massive victory back in Pak. So why not just pull his invite to show we mean business? I am assuming of course that the media report is correct...

2. Shipping Lines Riled by Pakistan’s Move to Raise Port Tariffs

With Karachi having 55% Berths Unoccupied and the “High” Port Charges the Chinese will ensure that Gwadar gets all the Traffic so that the Chinese can make money hand over fist.

CPEC and Gwadar will be a success. Karachi & Port Qasim will move towards closure and then the Chinese will own all Three Cwapistani Ports. Finally Cwapistan will be known as Cwapiziang.

3. I propose we raise a toast to their raising tariffs

Sartaj to represent Pakistan at Heart of Asia conference ( Why )
http://nation.com.pk/national/15-Nov-20 ... conference

Amid skirmishes along the Line of Control (LoC) and Working Boundary, Adviser on Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz will represent Pakistan at the Heart of Asia conference. The Heart of Asia conference will be held during the first week of December in Amritsar, India.“The conference is of immense importance with regard to peace and stability in Afghanistan,” Sartaj told reporters after his meeting with Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif. The adviser had confirmed in October, Pakistan’s participation in the conference, few days after India pulled out of the Saarc summit which was scheduled to be held in November.India’s refusal to attend the Saarc summit came days after several armed men stormed an Indian Army camp in Uri sector of held Kashmir and killed at least 19 soldiers.Following the attack, India claimed to have conducted a cross-border 'surgical strike' against 'launch pads of terror' in Azad Kashmir - a claim Pakistan has strongly rejected..

This is from Turkish media. Statements made by Sartaz senile Aziz.

His views on Afghanistan and Turkey are interesting.
IMHO, Pakistan is trying to midwife something between China and Turkey.

United Nation Rebuffs Pakistani Complaints
United Nations unable to function in held Kashmir due to India's non-cooperation :(
POSTED IN FULL!
UNITED NATIONS: UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon on Friday regretted the fact that the United Nations Military Observer Group in India and Pakistan (UNMOGIP) was unable to fully function in held Kashmir due to India’s non-cooperation.The UN’s military mission is only able to operate on the Pakistani controlled side of the LoC, as India refuses to accept its functioning on the other side and opposes its expansion, said the UN secretary general.
Pakistan's Permanent Representative to UN Dr Maleeha Lodhi, in the meeting with the top diplomat, asked the UN secretary general to ensure that UNMOGIP is able to report facts independently regarding the situation in held Kashmir to the UN Security Council.
Lodhi said during the meeting that Pakistan has exercised maximum restraint but would respond forcefully to any acts of aggression and provocation. She added that the responsibility for the escalating crisis rests entirely with India. The UN secretary general urged both Pakistan and India to de-escalate tensions and offered the organisation’s assistance in the matter. He also conveyed condolences on the deaths of two Pakistan Army soldiers.
Ambassador Lodhi said India has, by its declarations and actions, created conditions that pose an imminent threat to regional and International peace and security.

He also conveyed condolences on the deaths of two Pakistan Army soldiers.Ambassador Lodhi said India has, by its declarations and actions, created conditions that pose an imminent threat to regional and International peace and security.
She added that while India’s claim of carrying out a surgical strike across the Line of Control (LoC) was false, India had by its own admission, committed open aggression against Pakistan. :((
“The international community, and especially the United Nations, should not ignore this grave threat to international peace and security with possibly catastrophic consequences for the entire region,” said Lodhi. She urged the world’s top diplomat to intervene "boldly and unequivocally by calling on India to halt its aggressive actions and provocations, lest these lead to an even more dangerous situation".“India has provoked this crisis to divert international attention away from the indigenous Kashmiri uprising against Indian occupation.”
Lodhi also asked Moon to play a role in bringing an end to the human rights violations committed by Indian security forces in held Kashmir.“If India did not heed this call, the UN's relevant mechanisms, including the Security Council, must be advised of this imminent threat to international peace and security, as required under the UN Charter,” said Pakistan’s permanent representative during the meeting.Moon also conveyed his dismay at the postponement of the Saarc summit, and said “it could have been a good opportunity for dialogue” :(( .Earlier, Lodhi met president of the UN Security Council, Gerard van Bohemen of New Zealand, and urged him to informally brief the 15-member body on her country's dangerous escalation in tensions resulting from unprovoked firing by Indian troops across the LoC.Urgent steps were needed to avert a full-blown crisis, she said.
In one of the worst episodes of cross-border firing along the Line of Control, at least two Pakistan Army soo diers were killed as Indian troops opened fire on the first line of defence.
India also claimed to have performed a surgical strike by crossing the disputed boundary. The Indian claims were rubbished by Pakistan Army.
Later it emerged that an Indian soldier was captured by the Pakistan army, while Indian soldiers were also killed in the episode of firing across the LoC.An Indian army official based in New Delhi said, “It is confirmed one soldier from 37 Rashtriya Rifles with weapons has inadvertently crossed over to the Pakistan side of the Line of Control”.

Pakistan has realized that it is not "business as usual" with the new Modi Govt ; it is now running "pillar to post" to salvage their Enchendee

Their were also , unconfirmed reports , floating in UN corridors , that the Pak Permanent Rep (with a plagiarized PhD) is seeking the removal of Sec Gen Ban Ki Moon because his son-in-law is a Hindu from India !!

Spot-on about running pillar to post. With Pak FO asking Trump to keep his "campaign promise" to mediate, now even Sartaj Aziz is saying Trump should mediate and would deserve a Nobel prize. Yes, Pak understands it's old tricks won't work on this GoI. Still perplexed why we would now soften up a bit and allow them to heart of asia.

The fact that UN is yet another hotbed of corruption & nepotism is well known, but son-in-law appears to have earned his own stripes. Anyway that Claudia Rosett article is 7 years old and had there been a real scandal, it would have blown by now.

But can you guess the real reason the Paki permanent rep is all tied up in knots? Dear son-in-law was a Major in IA (Special Forces) :rotfl:

8) BRF, always being taught about some little factoid! Thank you Gandharva and Yensoy for pointing out that UN Secretary General Ban Ki Moon’s daughter is married to a retired Major of our own Indian Army.

All this Major Siddharth Chatterjee (Retired) business of being Son-In-Law of UN Secretary General Ban Ki Moon must be deeply upsetting the terrorist fomenting Islamic Republic of Pakistan :rotfl: .

And so the Mohammadden Terrorist fomenting Islamic Republic of Pakistan has failed to get any of the other 12 Heart of Asia – Istanbul process countries not counting India to boycott the Amritsar meeting and has meekly tucked its tail between its legs and proposes to inflict its unwanted presence on India  .

Very Disappointed that the much trumpeted martial spirit of Pakistan which places premium on Honor and Dignity aka H&D has vanished resulting in Pakistan swallowing insult and attending a meeting in India for the benefit of Afghanistan, both of whom are countries that boycotted the SAARC meeting in Pakistan  .

Shameless And Senile Sartaj Says That He Will Attend Amritsar Conference On Afghanistan :((

And Then This Blooper !
Trump would deserve Nobel prize if he resolves Kashmir dispute, says Sartaj Aziz
Adviser to prime minister on foreign affairs Sartaj Aziz on Tuesday said United States (US) president-elect Donald Trump would deserve Nobel prize if he intervenes and succeeds in resolving the Kashmir dispute between India and Pakistan."Trump would deserve Nobel prize if he helps resolve Kashmir dispute," he said on a lighter note while responding to a question regarding Trump's offer to mediate between Pakistan and India.Aziz indicated that Pakistan will welcome any such intervention by the US president-elect Donald Trump.

Ban Ki-moon has refused to intervene, Trump is going to "reject" the offer as he is not interested in the Nobel ; so who does senile Sartaj has in mind next :rotfl:
Pakistan to participate in Heart of Asia Conference in India
Sartaj Aziz, while talking to media in Islamabad, also revealed that Pakistan will participate in the Heart of Asia Conference scheduled to be held in India on December 3, 2016.“Unlike India, that had sabotaged Saarc summit in Pakistan by pulling out, Pakistan will respond by participating in the Heart of Asia being held in Amritsar, India, on December 3,” confirmed Aziz.
India should ensure that he does have any chai-pani with any"undesirable-Kashmiri- elements" on Indian soil !
The adviser said he himself will participate in the conference (participants should be ready for some "heavy dose of Paki propaganda " ) and will not repeat India’s blunder where it boycotted Saarc summit in November.
“Despite the fact that Indian forces killed our seven soldiers along Line of Control on Monday, Pakistan will not boycott the conference,” Aziz maintained.

What Sartaj Aziz means is that the other participants of the Heart of Asia Conference, including Higher than Himalaya’s, Deeper than Indian Ocean, Sweeter than Honey, Iron Brother P.R. China, have turned down the Islamic Republic of Pakistan’s fervent plea to shift the Amritsar meeting out of India as retaliation for India and Afghanistan boycotting the Islamabad SAARC meeting resulting in the Mohammadden Terrorist fomenting Islamic Republic of Pakistan is tucking its tail between its legs and attending the meeting.

Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and the country's powerful army chief left Wednesday for a strategically located secret area bordering India to witness a military exercise of ground and air power amid increasing tension with India over Kashmir.
Planes, tanks, artillery and other heavy weapons will be used during Wednesday's exercise, which is aimed at checking preparedness of the army in reacting to any hostile situations, two officials said.
The drills come three days after Indian fire in Kashmir killed seven Pakistani soldier.

Thank you sir. You and Arun ji have connected the missing dots for me. And indeed, I hope if he steps out of line, GoI gives a sharp slap like canceling his visa on the spot. There is precedent for that - in the late 60s, when DeGaulle visited Canada and expressed support for the separatist Quebecois, the government there booted him out tout de suite.

X Posted from the “India-Russia: News & Analysis” thread.

Russia apparently has no qualms about selling military equipment to the Islamic Republic of Pakistan if the Islamic Republic was in a position to put down cash for it.

Trust our foreign policy makers are aware of Russian proclivities.

Excerpt from Interview by Turkeys Andolou Agency of Russian President Vladimir Putin's special envoy to Afghanistan, Zamir Kabulov dealing with Russia – Pakistan relations.

Putin envoy: There is no quick solution in Afghanistan

Whether you like it or not, Taliban is a real political armed force, says Russian president's special envoy to Afghanistan

15.11.2016

Zamir Kabulov, President Vladimir Putin's special envoy to Afghanistan and the Foreign Ministry's director of the Second Asian Department, spoke to Anadolu Agency in Moscow about the situation in Afghanistan, developments in the region, and Russian foreign policy. ………………………

Russia and Pakistan

Kabulov stated that after a bad spell due to the Soviet Union’s long-ago occupation of Afghanistan, Russian-Pakistani relations have recently improved. "We are currently in a relationship with Pakistan. The level of political relations is quite high. Since we do not have major joint projects in the field of the economy, our commercial-economic volume is not much. Our military technical cooperation continues. We sold some military products to Pakistan. They want to buy more, but we do not work with Pakistan on credit and their economic opportunities are limited.”

He also stressed that they support the Pakistani government and are opposed to any kind of armed group, saying, "The Pakistani Taliban, the true brother of the Afghan Taliban, has only a slightly different goal. I think the Taliban poses a threat to the Pakistani democratic state. We support the Pakistani government and we are against any kind of armed group. The Pakistani Taliban also did not fight Daesh.”

MQM Rebuffs "Mush"

MQM rejects reports of political alliance with Musharraf
KARACHI: Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) on Tuesday snubbed speculations on media regarding MQM’s political alliance with former president and All Pakistan Muslim League (APML) Chief General (retd) Pervez Musharraf.
In a clarification statement, MQM spokesman said Leader of the Opposition in Sindh Assembly Khawaja Izhar ul Hassan met with Musharraf in a meeting of mutual friends over a meal.
“Pakistan’s political situation came under discussion during the meeting, while views were also exchanged with Musharraf regarding development of Karachi and powers of the elected local government representatives,” said an MQM press release.
The spokesperson said Coordinator APML Ahmed Raza Kasuri’s statement on the local media would be his personal desire and political alliance was not under consideration with MQM Pakistan.
He further said the process of consultation in MQM was completely democratic and Rabita Committee had the authority for all the decisions.

The Kammundu is, once again, "trying" to inject himself in Paki politics with no success! true to his nature, he thrives on publicity and cheap gimmicks like giving interviews, lecture tours and travelling "all over the world", (Dubai, London, New York) collecting the much needed "air miles" in the process; wonder, whatever happened to his spine, back and heart problems

Britain’s PM ‘looking forward’ to visiting Pakistan
ISLAMABAD: Britain’s Prime Minister Theresa May said on Tuesday that she looked forward to visiting Pakistan in the first half of 2017.
She said this as she walked into a meeting between Minister for Interior Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan and UK’s National Security Adviser (NSA) Sir Mark Lyall Grant at 10 Downing Street, London.

The interior minister, who is the left ball of Ganja Sharif, was probably in town for some "personal business" of his own; the "looking forward" is just another " diplomatic tease word " to allay the growing isolation of Pakiland . And to salvage the H&D of this "artificial entity" in light of May's recent visit to Delhi, dressed in a sari

Army starts preparations for ‘change of command’ - DT
Nawaz had consulted his kitchen cabinet some days ago on the appointment of a new army chief. Some ministers wanted to give extension to General Raheel for his pivotal role in strengthening democracy. While others suggested to appoint a new army chief on merit. The PM would consult his family as well before making any decision, they said further.

Sunni Terrorist Fragments of Unstable Pakistan- November 7, 2016

Reaping the whirlwind

THE targets may be different but the perpetrators of the two deadly attacks carried out in Balochistan in the space of one month are the same.
The responsibility of the carnage at the shrine in Khuzdar as well as the slaughter of police cadets in Quetta have been claimed by the militant Islamic State group and its affiliates.

In August this year, militants wiped out almost an entire generation of senior lawyers in the province in a suicide bomb attack inside a hospital. The restive province seems to have become the main battleground of the militants. Some recent sectarian terrorist attacks in upper Sindh have also been traced to militant groups based in Balochistan.

It is not for the first time that a terrorist attack in Pakistan has carried the IS footprint. Last year’s bus massacre of over 40 members of the Ismaili community in Karachi was among the most gruesome of its kind. There have also been reports of security agencies busting militant cells affiliated with the group in other parts of the country. But it is Balochistan which is in the cross hairs.

What is more troubling is the emerging nexus between local sectarian outfits and the lethal global jihadi group. We, however, are still in a state of denial about the looming threat. IS is not present in Pakistan; the idea is just a part of our enemies’ conspiracy to isolate the country — this is the patent response by government officials after every attack.

It may be true that the Middle Eastern jihadi group does not have a formal organisational structure in Pakistan, but over the past years it has found allies among Sunni extremist groups such as the Lashkar-i-Jhangvi (LJ) and some splinter factions of the Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan. What has brought them together is the strong anti-Shia bent of their jihadist ideology.

Most of these local militant groups were earlier affiliated with Al Qaeda which has lost its appeal after losing ground in Pakistan’s tribal areas and in Afghanistan. The spectacular advances of IS and its territorial control in Iraq and Syria have now made it much more attractive to militants in search of a new and more radical identity.

Although IS has now lost much of the territory under its control and is on the retreat in the Middle East, it has maintained links with its allies in Pakistan. These groups operate more like a franchise than a formal centralised structure. Hence it is not surprising that the pictures of the Quetta police academy attackers were posted on the group’s official website hours after the incident.

Some radicalised, educated young Pakistanis, influenced by its powerful online propaganda, have also pledged allegiance to IS. Quite a few were involved in attacks in Karachi and have recently been convicted by military courts. But some of these cells are still actively forming a nexus with sectarian groups, raising fears of continuing terrorist attacks across the country despite crackdowns by law-enforcement agencies. The breakdown of governance and an increasingly ineffective policing system, especially in Karachi, provide space for such groups.

However, it is the rise of sectarian militancy in Balochistan over the last few years that has provided a foothold for IS in the province. A major factor in the ascent of violent sectarian outfits is the mushrooming of foreign-funded radical madressahs in the province. Seen to be primarily financed by Gulf donors, they are largely concentrated in Mastung and Khuzdar districts, the latter being the site of the latest attack on a remote shrine.

While travelling on the RCD highway some 15 years ago, I remember seeing madressahs dotting the area where no other amenities were available. The administration either approved of them or looked the other way, boosting foreign-funded Sunni radicalisation. There is also strong evidence of a nexus between sectarian groups and the militias allegedly sponsored by the intelligence agencies to counter Baloch separatists. Such tacit support has allowed the militants to spread their tentacles.

Over the years Mastung has emerged as the main centre of sectarian militancy. There is still a madressah complex set up by anti-Shia groups operating in the region. It is serving as one of the bastions of religious extremism in the province. Dawood Badani, a relative of 9/11 mastermind Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, was responsible for the first major sectarian terrorist attack on an imambargah in Quetta in 2004.

The trail of most of the attacks on Hazara Shias in Quetta that have claimed hundreds of innocent lives over the last decade leads to this district. Many top LJ leaders have reportedly been killed in the latest crackdown by security agencies, but the recent surge in violence indicates that sectarian networks are still capable of launching high-profile terrorist attacks. Meanwhile, Pakistani sectarian militants have also found sanctuaries in Afghanistan, allowing them to move about freely on both sides of the border and making it much harder for Pakistani law-enforcement agencies to track them down.

Just a few months ago, Pakistan’s chief military spokesman declared that IS plans to expand into the country had been thwarted. But the group’s apparent involvement in the latest attacks shows that it has gained a foothold in the region despite the crackdown.

It is not just for publicity’s sake that the banner of IS is being used by various factions of the LJ; there is strong evidence of organisational links between them. The latest wave of terrorist attacks in Balochistan appears to be part of the strategy to hit soft targets as IS suffers huge setbacks in its strongholds in the Middle East.

Surely, one must not exaggerate the IS threat, but it is also unwise to underestimate the growing influence of the group, especially given the surge in sectarian militancy and the weakened authority of the state. We are reaping the whirlwind of our misplaced policies.
