Until we get the details it is difficult to know which income bracket one will be in. AMT is gone, that is good.

Wish they would invite Delta's CEO and Chairman of the Bored to a COTUS hearing, provide them PLENTY of beer, and have them sit in one of those nice TSA waiting rooms, banned from using cellphone or going to the bathroom. For 7 hours Then ask them into the Hearing Room, and make them sit another 2 hours before being asked: Do u feel the need to go to the bathroom?
If they try to get up and go, order the marshalls to put them in leg irons chained to the table.

on NAFTA

https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics ... 990080e988
President Trump was set to announce Saturday, on the 100th day of his presidency, that he was withdrawing from the North American Free Trade Agreement — the sort of disruptive proclamation that would upend both global and domestic politics and signal to his base that he was keeping his campaign promise to terminate what he once called “a total disaster” and “one of the worst deals ever.”

“I was all set to terminate,” Trump said in an Oval Office interview Thursday night. “I looked forward to terminating. I was going to do it.”
BUT WAIT...
Perdue even brought along a prop to the Oval Office: A map of the United States that illustrated the areas that would be hardest hit, particularly from agriculture and manufacturing losses, and highlighting that many of those states and counties were “Trump country” communities that had voted for the president in November.

“It shows that I do have a very big farmer base, which is good,” Trump recalled. “They like Trump, but I like them, and I’m going to help them.” :rotfl:

By Wednesday night, Trump — who spent nearly two years as a candidate railing against the trade agreement — had backed down,
preibus doing the "I did not slip, it was my plan all along" thing
“The president has put himself in a perfect position on NAFTA because folks know he’s inclined [to be] negative on NAFTA, yet he’s open to negotiating,” said Chief of Staff Reince Priebus. “It’s a good spot to be. The leverage is all with the president.”
In the Oval Office interview, however, Trump repeatedly insisted that he was ready to pull out of NAFTA. At one point, he turned to Kushner, who was standing near his desk, and asked, “Was I ready to terminate NAFTA?”

“Yeah,” Kushner said, before explaining the case he made to the president: “I said, ‘Look, there’s plusses and minuses to doing it,’ and either way he would have ended up in a good place.”

Money is rolling into Ombaba's bank account at a rate of $400K/speech.

The second $400K is from an advertising company. Even Lady Michelle Ombaba is going on speaking tours. Would she paid the same money as her man or only $280K (70% of the pay for equal amount of hot air) one wonders.

"....the tax “plan” the administration released on Wednesday.

The reason I use scare quotes here is that the single-page document the White House circulated this week bore no resemblance to what people normally mean when they talk about a tax plan. True, a few tax rates were mentioned — but nothing was said about the income thresholds at which these rates apply.

Meanwhile, the document said something about eliminating tax breaks, but didn’t say which. For example, would the tax exemption for 401(k) retirement accounts be preserved? The answer, according to the White House, was yes, or maybe no, or then again yes, depending on whom you asked and when you asked.

So if you were looking for a document that you could use to estimate, even roughly, how much a given individual would end up paying, sorry."

"...what we’re looking at here isn’t policy; it’s pieces of paper whose goal is to soothe the big man’s temper tantrums. "

The Commerce Department provided on Friday its first statistical snapshot of the American economy in the first quarter, the gross domestic product estimate.

"The economy barely grew, expanding at an annual rate of only 0.7 percent.

■ The growth was a sharp decline from the 2.1 percent annual rate recorded in the final quarter of last year. It was the weakest quarterly showing in three years.

■ Consumption, the component reflecting individual spending, rose by only 0.3 percent, well below the 3.5 percent rate in the previous quarter.

The Takeaway

The first-quarter performance upset expectations for a Trump bump at the start of 2017.

The House passed a one-week spending bill Friday morning, 382 to 30, with 207 Republican votes and 175 Democratic votes, meaning the Democrats were necessary to keep this government afloat. Again. That's despite the declaration by Republican leadership that they would have the votes to do it all on their own. After holding the vote open for nearly an hour, they gave up on getting those last 15 Republicans on board and gaveled the vote. Some governing party this is.

It’s significant because it means that House Speaker Paul Ryan—and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell—are going to need Democratic votes for the long-term spending bill.

Sorry to have to post that. Two brave men lost.
The raid began Wednesday evening at 10:30 p.m. local time as 50 Army Rangers and 40 Afghan commandos were inserted by helicopter near the compound. Almost immediately the U.S. and Afghan forces found taking enemy fire in an intense firefight that lasted three hours. Rodgers and Thomas were mortally wounded in the initial moments of the firefight. Airstrikes from fixed-wing aircraft and Apache helicopters were called in to support the American and Afghan troops in the firefight. ISIS-Khorasan, is the ISIS affiliate in Afghanistan. The group consists of existing Pakistan Taliban fighting groups that re-branded themselves as an ISIS affiliate. The U.S. military’s current estimate is that there are between 600 and 800 ISIS fighters in eastern Afghanistan, a significant drop from the 3,000 or more estimate from 18 months ago.

Tillerson considers cutting 2300 jobs at Foggy Bottom
plan to cut more than a quarter of the State Department's budget for the next fiscal year, ... reduces the number of new diplomats being hired and includes the State Department and U.S. Agency for International Development's possible consolidation, according to officials briefed on the proposal. The staff cuts would amount to about 3 percent of the department's roughly 75,000-strong workforce. The proposal is a response to the Office of Management and Budget's call to slash the State Department and USAID budgets by 31 percent  through deep cuts to foreign aid and other programs,..Tillerson's plan would entail a 26 percent budget reduction... Tillerson's proposal includes 700 job cuts through buyouts and 1,600 from attrition. The job cuts were first reported by Bloomberg. Buyouts would be offered first to staffers over the age of 50 with at least two decades of government service, the officials said...explore the consolidation of USAID into the State Department this summer..
On Thursday, a bipartisan group of 43 senators urged "robust funding" for the State Department and USAID.{particularly Frontlyin' Al-Lie Pakistan} "At a time when we face multiple national security challenges around the world, deep cuts in this area would be shortsighted, counterproductive and even dangerous," they said in a letter to Senate appropriators.

this guy sebastian gorka, was talked about here a while ago..

https://www.washingtonpost.com/world/na ... 74ad9c9a52
A senior administration official says Sebastian Gorka, a former counterterrorism analyst for Fox News who joined the administration as a counterterrorism adviser, will be leaving the White House in the coming days.

The official says that Gorka had initially been hired to play a key role on the Strategic Initiatives Group, an advisory panel created by Trump’s chief strategist Steve Bannon to run parallel to the National Security Council.

But that group fizzled out in the early months of the administration. Gorka was unable to get clearance for the National Security Council after he was charged last year with carrying a weapon at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport.

The official spoke anonymously to discuss private personnel matters. Attempts to reach Gorka by email for comment were not immediately successful.
fake news, claims breitbart

let's see which one turns out to be true...

http://www.breitbart.com/big-government ... incorrect/
“Incorrect,” one source told Breitbart News when asked about reports from the Washington Examiner and CNN that Gorka was leaving the White House.

A second White House source with direct knowledge of these matters confirmed to Breitbart News that the reports are wrong.

reality of how deals are made in DC. note in point two on how you have to dilute what u want to get he votes from various factions in congress and senate..even from your own party.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/pow ... e1a4f29b54
eight most notable areas Trump caved in his first big spending negotiation:

1. There are explicit restrictions to block the border wall. We knew last week there would be no money to start construction on a project that the president says is more important to his base than anything else. But the final agreement goes further, putting strict limitations on how Trump can use new money for border security (e.g. to invest in new technology and repair existing fencing). Administration officials have insisted they already have the statutory authority to start building the wall under a 2006 law. This prevents such an end run.

The $1.5 billion for border security is also half as much as the White House requested. Additionally, there are no cuts in funding to sanctuary cities, something a federal judge said last week would be required for the Justice Department to follow through on its threats. And there is also no money for a deportation force.

2. Non-defense domestic spending will go up, despite the Trump team’s insistence he wouldn’t let that happen. The president called for $18 billion in cuts. Instead, he’s going to sign a budget with lots of sweeteners that grow the size of government. Mitch McConnell made sure $4.6 billion got put aside to permanently extend health benefits to 22,000 retired Appalachian coal miners and their families. Nancy Pelosi made sure $295 million was included to shore up Medicaid in Puerto Rico. Chuck Schumer got $61 million to reimburse local law enforcement agencies for the cost of protecting Trump when he travels to his residences in Florida and New York. There is also another $2 billion in disaster relief money for states, which bought a couple votes. (Kelsey Snell, our lead budget reporter, has more examples.)

3. Barack Obama’s cancer moonshot is generously funded. The administration asked to slash spending at the National Institutes of Health by $1.2 billion for the rest of this fiscal year. Instead, the NIH will get a $2 billion boost — on top of the huge increase it got last year. Republican appropriators who care about biomedical research, including Rep. Tom Cole (R-Okla.) and Sen. Roy Blunt (R-Mo.), delivered.

Trump also failed in his efforts to cut money for other kinds of scientific inquiry. For example, he proposed defunding the Advanced Research Projects Agency–Energy. Instead, it is getting a $15 million increase.

4. Trump fought to cut the Environmental Protection Agency by a third. The final deal trims its budget by just 1 percent, with no staff cuts. As part of a compromise, the EPA gets $80 million less than last year, but the budget is $8 billion.

5. He didn’t defund Planned Parenthood. Despite the best efforts of social conservatives, the group will continue to receive funding at current levels.

6. The president got less than half as much for the military as he said was necessary. Trump repeatedly prodded Congress to increase military spending by $30 billion. He’s getting $12.5 billion, with an additional $2.5 billion if/when he delivers a detailed plan on how to defeat the Islamic State. Many Democrats from states with bases and manufacturers, especially those up for reelection in 2018, wanted this, too. Like Trump, they will tout the increased spending as a victory. The White House plans to call this a down payment on a much bigger investment down the road.

7. Democrats say they forced Republicans to withdraw more than 160 riders. These unrelated policy measures, which each could have been a poison pill, would have done things like get rid of the fiduciary rule and water down environmental regulations. On the other side of the ledger, this budget blocks the Justice Department from restricting the dispensing of medical marijuana in states where it has been legalized.

8. To keep negotiations moving, the White House already agreed last week to continue paying Obamacare subsidies. This money, which goes to insurance companies, reduces out-of-pocket expenses for low-income people who get coverage under the Affordable Care Act. The Trump administration justifies giving up on this because of the potential to resolve the bigger issue by repealing Obamacare.

This is a seminal essay, "Radical Chic", written by author Tom Wolfe for New York Magazine in the 1970s.

http://nymag.com/docs/07/05/070529radical_chic.pdf

Read it all. It is jaw-droppingly instructive about the social dynamics of "liberal elites" and the piskology of their attraction to disruptive, violent, leftist movements.

In this essay, Wolfe talks about the East Coast drawing-room nexus of major art/culture figures (e.g. Leonard Bernstein), scions of political dynasties (e.g. the Kennedys), social-climber mediapersons (e.g. Barbara Walters), businessmen and lawyers with political ambitions, and loud mouthed academics which was highly enamoured of the Black Panthers and other radical leftist groups in 1970s America. It clearly shows how young, well-meaning and privileged Americans from the same socio-economic circles were recruited to form the next generation of Democratic Party elites.

With few adjustments, the very same narrative can be almost directly cut-and-pasted to the Lootyens Elite: replace Girish Karnad or Aamir Khan for Leonard Bernstein, the Maino-Gandhis for the Kennedys, Barkha Dutt or Prannoy Roy for Barbara Walters, and you can see exactly what draws these parasites to the J&K Jihadis, Maoists, NE Xtian terrorists, Islamist mobsters etc.

We have to understand this set of dynamics to comprehend how many young, educated people in urban India today are being led astray into the clutches of anti-national politicians, whether Kanhaiya Kumar or Arvind Kejriwal.

I think he tapped into a few things that no one did as effectively.

1. The anger of the lower middle class that were being shafted in this global economy, this had regional, racial and educational overtones.

2. The outright positioning against immigration, muslims which also had racial overtones

3. Anger against professional politicians and the anger increases when these professional politicians do policy gobbeldock. I think this is what won him the party nomination

4. An ability to sound simple and non-intellectual where talk of sophisticated policy is actually a liability. It is the presumptive intent that matters to the electorate, when they vote and not the details of policy. Except to the intellectuals!

5. Traditional party, conservative groups and a weak, uninspiring opposition candidate, who was a policy wonk did the rest

If i have to bring it to one word, that won him the elections, it was they could not "trust" Hillary.
To sum it up, he tapped into the "tribe" instincts of the US.

Can't find the Bojitive neuj thread. Is this for real - these airlines have become THIS bad?
United Airlines sure has a unique way of “re-accommodating” its passengers. We all saw earlier this month how an Asian doctor in economy was manhandled bloody out of his seat to make room for a deadheading United crew. But he was just a measly prol — surely the rich, beautiful elite get world class treatment during their “re-accommodations”?
Well, apparently not if you believe a lawsuit filed by twentysomething New York City socialite Karen Shiboleth. She alleges United Airlines moved her from a first class seat to the back of the plane, without explanation, full refund or formal apology, all while grabbing her arm and calling her a c---.
Shiboleth is best known for her lavish Instagram account and parents’ money, making her a bonafide “Rich Kid of Instagram” who pals around in the same circles as Tiffany Trump and her notorious “Snap Pack” (see her in the picture above with Tiffany herself!).
But all the money and connections in the world couldn’t save her from United Airlines. According to the lawsuit, Shiboleth was inexplicably moved to the back of the plane from her pricey first row “BusinessFirst” seat on a flight from New York City to London.
A gate attendant, Eunice Daly, grabbed Shiboleth by the arm and shuffled her to a middle seat way in the back (with all its attendant nightmares) while refusing to answer any questions. Daly also attempted to cover her name tag when Shiboleth asked for her name. According to the lawsuit there were even open seats in BusinessFirst.
“Daly — who is not a flight attendant — evidently boarded the plane with the sole purpose of harassing, humiliating, embarrassing and physically accosting [Shiboleth] in front of other passengers,” the lawsuit read. “While Daly was touching [Shiboleth] without consent and forcing her to the back of the plane, Daly further insulted and humiliated [Shiboleth] by raising her voice and calling Plaintiff a “c---” in front of other passengers.”
As a reward for all the hassle, Shiboleth received a $750 voucher for United Airlines flights, despite spending over $3,000 for the ticket. Shibeloth is now seeking over $9,000 in actual damages and $150,000 in punitive damage.

watched a bbc doc yesterday - a series of interviews/vox pop without comment across america of a wide cross section of mangos and non-mangos (but not celebs or politicians) on how they think that el naranjito is doing

striking just how politically polarised america is and continues to be

some of the rural voters who voted anti-HC are clearly having regrets but plenty in the red lands are happy that 'god's candidate' is in the white house

incidentally - last series of Homeland seems to be eerily tracking the undertow of issues around the election. presumably it was filmed around the time the elections were going on... the writers are very prescient!

Another one in Texas. Police officer "placed on administrative leave" after firing a rifle into an SUV that was speeding AWAY from him, killing a TEENAGER outside a PARTY. He was a STUDENT-ATHLETE.

See all the capitalized sensation words. Now consider: Initial police report was that (a) they were called due to reports of underage drinking and general chaos (b)vehicle was speeding towards them and (c) shots were fired outside the house "leading to confusion".

Remains under investigation, but if it turned out that a couple of Darwin Award Aspirants (DAA) got (illegally) drunk at an illegal party where their parents allowed their offspring to be in a place with illegal underage drinking, got in an SUV, tried to run down a couple of policemen and did a drive-by shooting, then all I can say is that the officer's partner missed the other one in the SUV.

Disappointed that the govt. did not shut down this time, the Zee in chief is hoping for a Sept. govt. shutdown!

As Congress touts spending deal, Trump calls for shutdown
Lawmakers in both parties celebrated reaching a spending deal that would avoid a government shutdown this week, but President Trump took to Twitter on Tuesday morning to argue that the country "needs a good shutdown" to fix Senate rules that require him to negotiate with Democrats.

The deal struck by Republican and Democratic leaders to fund the government through Sept. 30 includes some of the increased defense spending Trump had requested but not funding for his wall along the Mexican border. It also continues subsidies for health insurance under Obamacare and provides emergency funding for Puerto Rico, where a budget crisis has threatened Medicaid payments. Both were big Democratic priorities.

Sessions in action!

Officers Won’t Be Charged in Black Man’s Shooting Death in Louisiana
The Justice Department will not charge police officers in the shooting death of a black man by white police officers last year in Baton Rouge, La., according to two people familiar with the decision.

Alton B. Sterling, 37, was shot dead last July by the local police after being pinned to the ground by officers who were arresting him. His death prompted widespread outcry, and the Justice Department’s civil rights division opened an inquiry in coordination with the F.B.I. and the United States attorney’s office in Baton Rouge.

Dallas fires policeman involved in shooting
Oliver and other members of the police department in this city of about 25,000 people, 15 miles east of Dallas, were responding to a report of intoxicated teens when officers heard gunfire outside. Initially, Chief Jonathan Haber said a car was backing up toward officers on the street when an officer armed with a rifle shot Edwards, a passenger in the car. Haber corrected the story in a news conference late Monday, saying video from the scene shows the car initially backing up, but then moving forward and fleeing the scene when Jordan was shot in the head. What he saw on the video was not "consistent with the policies and core values of the Balch Springs Police Department," Haber said.
