one of the best I've read on the healthcare bill and why it's probably impossible to replace obamacare

https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/won ... 6a798ccf2f
GOP is stuck in an old Woody Allen joke: It thinks the problem with Obamacare, metaphorically speaking, is that the food is terrible and the portions are too small. Good luck putting those together.
..

Which brings us to the GOP's two fundamental laws of health care. The first is that Republicans can't get the far right's support without losing the center right's — and vice versa — so that no matter what they do, they can't pass a bill. And the second is that the only Obamacare replacement GOP moderates would support is, yes, Obamacare. If you want people with preexisting conditions to be able to get covered — and they do now — then you either have to have the government do so directly or use a combination of carrots and sticks in the form of subsidies and mandates to get the private sector to. There's no conservative alternative to Obamacare, in other words, because Obamacare is the conservative alternative.

That's why it's only a matter of time until Republicans settle on an even bolder and newer strategy for not replacing Obamacare: admitting that, for many of them, the only real problem with the law was its name.
a name (obamacare) that they gave to ACA to be able to demonize it...oh the sheer irony of it all..

Trump adviser Kushner failed to disclose stake in start-up, says report
ared Kushner, the son-in-law of and close adviser to US President Donald Trump, failed to disclose to the government that he is part-owner of a start-up and has property loans totaling at least $1 billion, the Wall Street Journal reported on Tuesday.Kushner's take in Cadre, a tech startup for real estate investors, gives him business ties to Goldman Sachs Group Inc. and billionaires such as George Soros and Peter Thiel, the report said.
Unrelated to financial disclosures, in April the New York Times reported that Kushner failed to disclose contacts with Russian Ambassador to the US Sergey Kislyak and the head of Russian state-owned bank Vnesheconombank while he was applying for top-secret security clearance

Obamacare was the name the great one gave it and not the Republicans.

The reality is that the Republicans do not view health care as part of the "general welfare" of the country. Health care is not a right, but a privilege, and those with less should die if market forces can not resolve the issue. In that sense for health care, India is more free market where medicines are available without prescription and you can choose the most inexpensive of care to the most high tech expensive.

So Obamacare is toast. What do you guys see here? Has it been totally gutted? The "high-risk list" is back, whatever that means, and "pre-existing conditions". 24M people expected to lose coverage per the 400% re-liable See Enn Enn. Insurance companies free to rape the people again? I thought the Zee was planning to keep most of the essential parts, and that he had won the bissing contest with the elephant herd and Ryan was supporting it with a boot to his butt from the White House. Also 20 elephants voted against, so there must be something good about this bill.

1. Democrats will filibuster it in senate.

2. Republicans have a narrow majority in the senate, moderate republicans from northeast may not vote for it.

3. Senate will not vote on house bill nor it will use house bill as starting point, instead it is drafting its own bill.

4. By the time if something passes the senate and that is a big if because of filibuster, and goes through the reconciliation process it will have very little resemblance to what the house has passed.

So don't count your chicken till they are hatched. Democrats will filibuster it for sure if they don't get what they want from it.

It already happens, some hospitals don't allow ambulances coming from certain areas to their hospital. They tell them to take the patient to the university teaching hospital in town. So nothing new.

That would be nice if it were true. Unfortunately, rank hypocrisy has never proved an impediment for the US govt (and least of all for Republican regimes).

http://www.thehindu.com/news/national/u ... 385902.ece
NGOs must abide by India’s laws, Attorney-General Mukul Rohatgi told the UN’s Human Rights Council at Geneva, as the government faced a tough “peer review” by other countries at the Council. The Council members on Thursday recommended a revision in India’s Foreign Contribution Regulatory Act (FCRA), a repeal of the Armed Forces Special Powers Act, decriminalisation of homosexuality and the inclusion of marital rape in Indian laws on sexual violence.

“Supported by a rights-oriented constitutional framework, secular polity, independent judiciary, free and vibrant media, vocal civil society, and a range of national and State-level commissions that monitor compliance with human rights, India continues with its endeavours towards observance of human rights,” the Attorney-General replied, adding that the FCRA is a legitimate law that NGOs wishing to operate in India must follow.

The attack on the FCRA act came from nearly a dozen countries, mostly from Europe. The charge was led by the U.S. and Germany, who called the Act and the government’s actions “arbitrary”.

“India must defend the right to freedom of association, which includes the ability of civil society organisations to access foreign funding, and protect human rights defenders effectively against harassment and intimidation,” the German Ambassador to the UN mission in Geneva said, while the U.S. envoy decried the “complete lack of transparency” in the implementation of the FCRA.
Clearly, the Republican regime in Washington has embarked on a single-minded crusade on behalf of EJ organizations seeking to harvest Hindu souls. While the Obama administration made some faint back-channel noises about the FCRA, Compassion International etc... the Trump regime has launched a strident, aggressive campaign using every conceivable domestic and international platform, including the UNHRC, to pressurize India on this. Not surprising, because conversion-hungry Evangelical Christians are an integral part of Trump's core voting base.

Please provide least some basic research about the electoral preferences of EJ demographics in the US when you make some dubious equal-equal assertion. The real-world numbers do not support your simplistic statement that EJs are the core base for "all" the Presidents.

Even in these first 100 days, the magnitude of the campaign mounted by the Trump govt and the Republican congress on behalf of EJs is much more focused, multi-pronged and broad based than anything we saw since the G W Bush presidency.

Saying "we need to do what we need to do" is a cop-out. The first thing we "need to do" is recognize who poses the greatest threat. On the issue of actively supporting organized Christian conversion campaigns in India, this regime is far more of a threat than the previous one.

Trump’s Republican Party may attract white working-class votes with its cultural messaging, but the excited promise of 2016 of a “working-class party” can be disregarded. The working class will be stripped of its Medicaid coverage. It will again be exposed to the worst practices of the pre-2010 healthcare status quo. The coming tax cut that will absorb the resources shifted away from healthcare subsidies looks likely to be tilted even more radically to the wealthiest in society than those of Ronald Reagan or George W. Bush.

classic obfuscation..take out 'individual mandate' to get freedom caucus to vote yes.

insert obscure language about 'continuous coverage penalty' - meaning if you lose your job, lose insurance for more than 63 days, insurance company can surcharge you when you try to get insurance again. And good luck if you picked up something when you did not have insurance, as pre-existing conditions don't have the same protection as before.

There goes the separation of church and state ( i.e. if there was one to begin with?! )

Trump signs order seeking to allow churches to engage in more political activity

President Trump on Thursday signed an executive order aimed at making it easier for churches to participate in politics, seeking to deliver on a campaign pledge to a community that overwhelmingly backed in him in last year’s election.

Of course the Australians have better healthcare than we do --everybody does. ObamaCare is dead! But our healthcare will soon be great
Trump tweeted.

can the telegram readers decipher what churning led to this gem..

is he meaning that universal single payer health care is better?

better than what? obamacare? many would agree but they would be democrats/liberals

and then he says trumpcare will be better because...because why ..because it removed even some of the protections that obamacare had and gave massive tax cut to the rich?

The need to stand for something:

"
Rex Tillerson Doesn't Understand America

His idea that the country’s interests and its values are two separate things—the first mandatory, the second optional—reflects a misreading of the past.
"
Tillerson’s idea that in foreign policy American interests and American values are two separate things, the first mandatory, the second optional, reflects a misunderstanding of our past (not uncommon in this administration) and of the essence of our national character. The United States is surely the Manhattan skyline, the Kansas plains, the redwood forests, the Mississippi river. But it is, far more importantly, the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution, and the Gettysburg Address. You could cut down the forest or dry up the river and the country would be infinitely the poorer for it, but it would still be the United States of America. If Americans jettison the Bill of Rights and the ideas enshrined in it, they become a different country altogether.

"The prosperity gospel sold by televangelists fit—and fits—so well in many American homes because it mirrors the established national secular ethos. Some proto-form of prosperity gospel animated the life and works of men like Andrew Carnegie, who neatly tied individualism, capitalism, and wealth accumulation together in his own Gospel of Wealth. That book, a foundational defense of capitalism and income inequality based on the perceived intellectual differences and contributions of laborers and capital-owners, was also rooted in a certain form of muscular Christianity that placed health and wealth as the near-inevitable consequences of a life well-lived, and sickness as a curse for the damned."

The *** (edited out by JE Menon) york times is having a series on communism to mark the 100th year of the russian revolution

when-communism-inspired-americans
My mother was in the audience that night and said, when she came home: “America was fortunate to have had the Communists here. They, more than most, prodded the country into becoming the democracy it always said it was.
While it is true that thousands of people joined the Communist Party in those years because they were members of the hardscrabble working class (garment district Jews, West Virginia miners, California fruit pickers), it was even truer that many more thousands in the educated middle class (teachers, scientists, writers) joined because for them, too, the party was possessed of a moral authority that lent shape and substance, through its passion for structure and the eloquence of its rhetoric, to an urgent sense of social injustice.
ayn-rands-counter-revolution
And here unfolded the last act of the drama: the eventual emergence of anti-anti-Communism. It was one thing to reject a political movement gone horribly wrong. It was something different to turn on one’s former friends and associates, in the process giving “aid and comfort to cold warriors,” as the writer and historian Tony Judt wrote. And so even as Communism fell out of favor, among intellectuals anti-Communism became as unfashionable as it had been in the 1930s.
While originally manifest in the dynamics between Communism, ex-Communism and anti-Communism, this gap touched upon something more fundamental in American life. The Russian Revolution and its aftermath had exposed a “jagged fissure” between “the plain men and women of the nation,” as Chambers put it, “and those who affected to act, think and speak for them.”

Posters have to follow forum rules, but let me just say that the NYT is a mouth piece of the deep state of US, and that the hypocritical judeo-xtist 'moral' racism is the lynch pin of the worldview which actively plots against india and NYT is owned and run by jews who believe in this moral racism.

The series on communism reflects this judeo-xtist moral racism which seeks to create a world order in the interests of anglo-american-jewish establishment. That view tries to reconcile the moral sensibilities of new york jews and the imperatives of the american order.

We in India too have our moral sensibililities which we reconcile with the interests of the indic civilisation as the establishment of the day sees it fit.May be there are a few lessons here for us or may be not.

Sally Yates to testify. Reports from 'fake media' that she raised alarm about flynn and that's why she was let go. earlier it was reported as being let go because of not defending the travel ban.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/world/na ... a8ce969ac6
Former national security adviser Michael Flynn was warned by senior members of President Trump’s transition team about the risks of his contacts with the Russian ambassador weeks before the December call that led to Flynn’s forced resignation, current and former U.S. officials said.

Flynn was told during a late November meeting that Russian Ambassador Sergey Kislyak’s conversations were almost certainly being monitored by U.S. intelligence agencies, officials said, a caution that came a month before Flynn was recorded discussing U.S. sanctions against Russia with Kislyak, suggesting that the Trump administration would reevaluate the issue.

Officials were so concerned that Flynn did not fully understand the motives of the Russian ambassador that the head of Trump’s national security council transition team asked Obama administration officials for a classified CIA profile of Kislyak, officials said. The document was delivered within days, officials said, but it is not clear that Flynn ever read it.

The previously undisclosed sequence reveals the extent to which even some Trump insiders were troubled by the still-forming administration’s entanglements with Russia and its enthusiasm for a friendly relationship with the Kremlin.

The failed efforts to intervene with Flynn also cast harsh new light on a national security adviser who lasted just 24 days on the job before revelations about his discussions with Kislyak — and misleading accounts of them — forced him to resign.

...
As Flynn went through his upcoming appointments, he mentioned that he was being inundated with requests for meetings from diplomats. Most would have to wait to get access to Trump’s designated national security adviser, a position that would give Flynn enormous influence in the White House. Flynn then revealed that he’d already scheduled a conversation with Kislyak.

Meetings with foreign counterparts are commonplace for incoming national security advisers. But the reference to Kislyak raised eyebrows among officials who had spent much of their careers treating Russia as an adversary and avoiding encounters with Russian officials who might be engaged in espionage.

Several also worried that engaging with Kislyak, even if appropriate, had only political downsides for Trump, whose effusive praise of Putin during the campaign had fanned suspicion about his associates’ ties to Moscow.

Billingslea warned Flynn that Kislyak was likely a target of U.S. surveillance and that his communications — whether with U.S. persons or superiors in Moscow — were undoubtedly being monitored by the FBI and National Security Agency, according to officials familiar with the exchange. Flynn, a retired Army lieutenant general who led the Defense Intelligence Agency, would presumably have been aware of such surveillance.

Billingslea then said that he would obtain a copy of the profile of Kislyak, officials said, a document that Billingslea urged Flynn to read if he were going to communicate with the Russian envoy. Flynn’s reaction was noncommittal, officials said, neither objecting to the feedback nor signaling agreement.

Shortly thereafter, during the week of Nov. 28, Billingslea and other transition officials met with lower-level Obama administration officials in the Situation Room at the White House.

At the end of the meeting, which covered a range of subjects, Billingslea asked for the CIA profile. “Can we get material on Kislyak?” one recalled Billingslea asking.

Days later, Flynn took part in a meeting with Kislyak at Trump Tower. White House spokeswoman Hope Hicks has confirmed that both Flynn and Jared Kushner, Trump’s adviser and son-in-law, took part in that session, which was not publicly disclosed at the time.

It’s not clear whether the Kislyak profile was shared before that meeting. Flynn continued to communicate with Kislyak, however, exchanging text messages and cellphone calls, culminating in a conversation intercepted by U.S. intelligence agencies just as the Obama administration was announcing election-related sanctions on Russia.

The Dec. 29 measures included the expulsion of 35 suspected Russian spies, the closure of two Russian compounds, in Maryland and New York, and economic sanctions against Russian intelligence services and officials.

Kislyak would have been keenly interested in whether the Trump administration, just weeks from taking office, intended to enforce these measures. After denying for weeks that he had discussed the sanctions with Kislyak, Flynn altered his story in early February when told that The Washington Post planned to publish a story saying he had done so, citing multiple sources familiar with the contents of the Kislyak call.

Flynn was forced to resign days later and may face other consequences for his dealings with Russia. The FBI has interviewed Flynn about the conversations with Kislyak. Flynn is also under investigation by the Pentagon’s inspector general over $45,000 he accepted for appearing at a 2015 event in Russia and $530,000 his former consulting firm was paid for work tied to the Turkish government.

A farmer hired 483 US workers, more than 100 did not show up on the first day, more than 300 left in the first two days and only 31 lasted the whole season.

Why does US want to produce so much taste less, hybrid probably GM crops and export it when it lacks workers. Can't it just reduce its farm output? May be it should just grow corn and produce ethanol. Good for environment.

Kushner family in Beijing: 'Invest $500,000 and immigrate' to US

The EB-5 visa allows immigrants a path to a green card if they invest more than $500,000 in a project that creates jobs in the United States. An ad for the event, held at a Ritz-Carlton hotel, said "Invest $500,000 and immigrate to the United States."
yes, duh! This is the old "DID YOU KNOW HIS SISTER IS A THESPIAN?" scam being pulled by NYT etc, isn't it? They should not have said "My bro is the president's chamcha" but don't u think Wee Dong and all other attendees knew this? Once they realized that there were papparazzi present they kicked them out (except CNN who was wearing chinese-style micro-mini skirt and Pakistani military boots) and apologized for even mentioning the name of KUshner. But all they actually said is:
Look! My grampaw came to US as investor, and now my bro is in the WHITE HOUSE!!" You invest, and your grandchild can become POTUS or at least marry POTUS daughter too.
So now the Media standards is that you must not even MENTION the words White House or President? Why?

You don't have to go to Beijing to see such events. I've been to one (as co-organizer) in an American city. The person who spoke on the subject was recently (retired) director of the major INS/CIS center there. Still have the 50-slide PPT with me as a paper copy. So what is wrong with an AMERICAN company paying their own money to go to China where they have plenty of such investors, and asking them to consider investing Chinese money (received from America anyway) in an AMERICAN venture in AMERICA, creating plenty of jobs in America? Real estate construction is one line of work that is not yet outsourced to Mexico or China, hain?

Did someone say or imply that they should note on the bottom of the greencard application "fliend of Tlump frunky Kushnel"? Does it make any difference to the GC processing even if they did?

So here are hard-working investment generators going out to work for America, and these media scumbags can't see beyond their hatred at losing the election. They can't see anything except CONFLICT OF INTEREST in anyone doing useful work. Pathetic.

Bill Clinton went all round the world campaigning for investment in US (and a few donations to clinton foundation..) as President. Why did we not see this :(( :(( about that?

Hope there are no court cases on this. The Idiot should have been fired immediately after the election.

Good riddance. Good thing is he is fired instead of him resigning as this will reduce adminstrators playing with politics.

So what happens to the Russian investigation? Will it get buried now or still taken to its logical conclusion by the next Director, i.e jail sentence for the few collaborators and impeachment for Z ?

Hmmm! Attorney Jarnail Bibi, now Free Biscuit Jarnail. Next, Supreme Ct. Chief Justice? Comey seems to have been either an honest but painful bureaucrat manager who couldn't make any decision without pompous :((, or an all-round oiseule, bound to get fired no matter who came to power. I must say he made the FBI looks like idiots. All the competent investigating was being done by Putin and Assange. Wasn't it Reagan, or was it later, that all the attorneys in the Just-Is dept. were fired? There was a big hoopla about that, I remember. But the timing of the firing is extremely bad and looks very suspicious. Maybe the WHOTUS is just slow. First Pleet Bhalala, then Surgeon-Jarnail, now this - if u think about it he's just getting around slowly to appointing new flunkies in all these political-appointee posts.

But the headline says Comey's failure to nail HiC was cited in his goodbye letter.
FBI director's decision not to file charges over Clinton's email cited for his dismissal
{ACTUALLY IT IS NOT!!!! THAT IS AN OUTRIGHT CNN LIE!} If so he should have been fired Day 1. Now there is no way to avoid the fragrance of Caviar and Vodka.

Actual termination letter is pretty sharp, personal and nasty: nothing to do with 'transition'.

Culinary Institute Head Chef better retire for health reasons while he still can.
