Putin is really putting the screws to the favorite/hero of many on this board. None of the major problems facing the USA have anything to do with Russia. Russia is hardly in the USA's economic league. Now, Russia is worthy of a Summit.

Similar to PM Modi insisting on a summit with New Zealand as his first act of business.

What happens if Phranj goes right and Allemagne stays left? Or vice versa? Or both gang up on Netherlands? Or all 3 gang up on Swedenistan and Dera Norway Khan, both of which seem to be on track for Houristan? Maybe Norway is more likely go right, maybe invade Swedenistan.
As they say, the tamasha has only begun. Anyway, OT for understanding YooEss. I think DT will hammer Oiropean corporate dominance in US. It is little known that Oiropean companies (at least pre-China boom) were faaaaaaar more entrenched in US than Japanese, Korean etc. I haven't checked recently. Siemens, Bosch, VW-Mercedes-BMW, and of course, EADS. Those are the tip of the iceberg. Huge presence in financial companies, drug companies, I think.

the far right will bloom and then wither, ultimately people wake up and say - no thats really stupid
there are plenty of far right nuts around - far more in the US than in europe, and the ones in the US have guns...

agent orange it seems will also be protectionist against european companies - which will make his 'core fans' khush, but the western economies are too intertwined for this war to be a one-sided victory. there are just as many US companies enmeshed in europe

thats all window dressing, i suspect the big ticket in the background is the mother of all oil deals with the russians - which has its pros and cons and needs to be thought through

russia in not necessarily a threat in my view, but putin is determined to raise russia's stature in the world, despite her economy being now quite small; this has implications for everyone - good and bad

the neocons spent a lot of time and effort pushing the 'soviets' back, putin is only counter pushing - all of that is fine. its the repurcussions for everyone else that needs to be thought through - and we are nowhere near doing that

Yes, nothing is better for the U. S. economy than getting Mercedes Benz out of the USA. India proved the benefits of relying on indigenous manufacture -- the Ambassador car is but one example.

Maybe DT will put a bust of Nehru in the WH.

Donald Trump suggests John Brennan may have leaked Russia dossier
Donald Trump appeared to suggest that outgoing CIA Director John Brennan may have been behind the publication of an unverified intelligence dossier connecting the president-elect to Russia. “Was this the leaker of Fake News?,” Trump said at the end of two tweets in which he attacked Brennan for being critical of him in an interview to Fox News earlier Sunday. In his interview, the outgoing CIA Director slammed Trump for equating the actions of intelligence community with that of Nazi Germany, describing it as “outrageous”.
Retweeting a Fox News headline, Trump wrote: “@FoxNews ‘Outgoing CIA Chief, John Brennan, blasts Pres-Elect Trump on Russia threat. Does not fully understand.’ Oh really, couldn’t do much worse – just look at Syria (red line), Crimea, Ukraine and the build-up of Russian nukes. Not good! Was this the leaker of Fake News?”.

Bloomberg reports on an interview Trump gave to Germany's Bild and UK's Time (London)
https://www.bloomberg.com/politics/arti ... -interview
Donald Trump called NATO obsolete, predicted that other European Union members would follow the U.K. in leaving the bloc, and threatened BMW with import duties over a planned plant in Mexico, according to two European newspapers which conducted a joint interview with the president-elect.
Quoted in German by Bild from a conversation held in English, Trump predicted that Britain’s exit from the EU will be a success and portrayed the EU as an instrument of German domination designed with the purpose of beating the U.S. in international trade. For that reason, Trump said, he’s fairly indifferent to whether the EU stays together, according to Bild.
The Times quoted Trump as saying he was interested in making “good deals with Russia,” floating the idea of lifting sanctions that were imposed as the U.S. has sought to punish the Kremlin for its annexation of Crimea in 2014 and military support of the Syrian government.
“They have sanctions on Russia -- let’s see if we can make some good deals with Russia,’’ Trump said, according to the Times. “For one thing, I think nuclear weapons should be way down and reduced very substantially, that’s part of it.’’
Repeating a criticism of NATO he made during his campaign, Trump said that while trans-Atlantic military alliance is important, it “has problems.”

“It’s obsolete, first because it was designed many, many years ago,” Trump said in the Bild version of the interview. “Secondly, countries aren’t paying what they should” and NATO “didn’t deal with terrorism.” The Times quoted Trump saying that only five NATO members are paying their fair share.
Trump praised Britons for voting in 2016 to leave the EU. People and countries want their own identity and don’t want outsiders coming in to “destroy it,” he said. The U.K. is smart to leave the bloc because the EU “is basically a vehicle for Germany,” the Times quoted Trump as saying.

“If you ask me, more countries will leave,” he said.

Trump told the Times that he plans to quickly pursue a trade deal with the U.K. after taking office and will meet with British Prime Minister Theresa May soon.

“We’re gonna work very hard to get it done quickly and done properly. Good for both sides,” he said. “We’ll have a meeting right after I get into the White House and it’ll be, I think we’re gonna get something done very quickly.”
In line with his threats against other automakers, Trump said Bayerische Motoren Werke AG would face a 35 percent import duty for foreign-built BMW cars sold in the U.S. BMW should scrap plans to open a new plant in Mexico and build the factory in the U.S. instead, he was quoted as saying. BMW plans to start building 3 Series sedans at San Luis Potosí in 2019.
Trump plans to keep using social media, including Twitter, once he’s in the White House to sidestep the press and communicate directly with his followers.
People entering the U.S. will face “extreme” security checks, possibly including some European nationals

It is now quite evident that the author of the "Dirty Dossier" on Trump is a member/members of MI-6,resident at its Vauxhall Bridge HQ in London. Most probably a "dirty tricks" team specialising in anti-Russian propaganda, and fake news,as existed done during the Cold War,was tasked with the job of derailing the Trump presidential train as it appeared that he stood a fighting chance of getting elected. Working in close concert with the O'Bomber/Clinton /US intel establishment,it was felt that linking Trump to Putin would destroy his reputation as a patriotic individual fit to be US president.Unfortunately.Russian pres.Putin is a globally admired figure ,even in the US,for being tough and acting with force instead of making asinine speeches achieving nothing as O'Bmber did in Syria. Putin's no-nonsense style appeals to many in the US and the RT channel is increasingly being watched by many in the West.

Now that the plot to derail Trump over his Russian contacts has failed, labelling him as a Russian stooge, humping Russian whores,a sexual degenerate ,unfit to enter the White House...oops! Sorry folks, that can't be right as sexual predator extraordinaire, the Yanqui Casanova,Bill Clinton holds the record of philanderer supreme, putting even JFK in the shade with his innovative use of a cigar during his trysts with one M.Lewinsky! Amazingly,
predator Bill would've been back at the White House playing on his "sax" yet again had Hillary won! The irony of it all.Sadly the role of the British govt. and its intel agencies has yet again come into acute disrepute with this latest conspiracy to defame and dethrone a US President-Elect,a veritable "assassination" of reputation, honour and integrity as I said before.

Head of MI6 used information from Trump dossier in first public speech
Warnings on cyberattacks show ex-spy’s work is respected
Kim Sengupta Defence Editor

MI6 chief Sir Alex Younger’s briefing notes for his first public speech contained some of the material supplied by former spy Christopher Steele, according to security sources EPA

The head of MI6 used information obtained by former officer Christopher Steele in his Trump investigation, in a warning against Russian cyberattacks and attempts to subvert Western democracies, The Independent has learned.

Sir Alex Younger’s briefing notes for his first public speech as head of the Secret Intelligence Service contained some of the material supplied by Mr Steele, according to security sources. Drawing on the alleged hacking carried out by Moscow in the US presidential campaign, he warned of the danger facing Britain and Western European allies, and especially to elections due to be held next year.

Security sources stress that MI6 had extensive information, British and international, on the Russian threat apart from that of Mr Steele. But they pointed out that he is held in high regard and the contribution he provided was valuable.

In one of his recent tweets, Mr Trump described Mr Steele as a “failed spy”. He also claimed in another tweet that “James Clapper [director of national intelligence] called me yesterday to denounce the false and fictitious report that was illegally circulated. Made up, phony facts. Too bad!”

Mr Steele had, in fact, a highly successful career in MI6, received a number of commendations and is highly regarded by both British and American intelligence agencies. Mr Clapper pointed out that what he had actually said was that the intelligence service “has not made any judgement that the information in this document is reliable”.

The information Mr Steele, who had been hired by political opponents of Mr Trump, gave to MI6 was disseminated through the UK’s intelligence agencies including GCHQ who provided assessment to their American counterparts, the National Security Agency (NSA). Last week, The New York Times cited “two people familiar with the conclusions” of the US report into the Kremlin’s activities as being “among the first” to raise the alarm in the autumn of 2015 over the hacking of Democratic National Committee computer servers.

Ex-MI6 agent's frustration as FBI sat on Trump file for months

Security sources stress that the material Mr Steele had provided was very much “raw humint” (human intelligence) and that GCHQ had used its technological means to carry out its investigation. However, it enabled tracking of hackers outside Russia, in Eastern Europe, who may also have been used in the Kremlin’s American operation.

Senior officials could not confirm media reports at the weekend that reassurance has been sought by London from the CIA that the identities of British agents in Russia will be protected in shared intelligence, with concerns about links between Mr Trump’s team and Moscow. One official said that the understanding was that unauthorised people should not have access to such detail in anything classified which is passed on.

The threat of outside interference in coming elections in France, Germany and, possibly, Italy, has led to greater liaison between Western intelligence services in which, say officials, US agencies continue to play a full part.

Donald Trump's team in ‘frequent contact’ with Russia despite denials

There were two strands to the investigation carried out by Mr Steele – Mr Trump’s alleged susceptibility to blackmail and a cyber operation carried out by the Russians which benefited Mr Trump and damaged Hillary Clinton’s campaign. The intelligence agencies in the UK, it is believed, have focused on the cyber aspect of the dossier, rather than blackmail claims, because of the immediate threat it presents to this country.

In his December speech, at MI6’s headquarters in London, Sir Alex scathingly criticised what he termed the brutality of the military offensive then being undertaken by the forces of President Bashar al-Assad and his Russian allies in Aleppo.

On cyber warfare and associated subversion, he said: “The connectivity that is at the heart of globalisation can be exploited by states with hostile intent to further their aims deniably. They do this through means as varied as cyberattacks, propaganda, or subversion of democratic process.
Trump and Putin passionately kiss in street mural

“Our job is to give the Government the information advantage: to shine a light on those activities and help our country and our allies. The risks are profound and represent a fundamental threat to sovereignty: they should be a concern to all those who share democratic values”.

Mr Steele and a Washington based company, Fusion GS, were initially hired by Republican opponents of Mr Trump and, after he won the Republican nomination, the Democrats. After Mr Trump’s surprise election win their services were no longer required by the Democrats. However, Mr Steele and, it is believed, one of his American colleagues, continued to work without pay because they felt that what they were uncovering should see the light of day. Mr Steele passed on what he had found to the FBI and MI6 because he believed such material was a matter of national security for both countries.
PS:IN an earlier report,it was revealed that the current head of MI-6 and Steele, alleged author of the "dirty dossier" were colleagues at Cambridge!
No wonder that the MI-6 capo is batting for his "bumchum"!

Disinformation has been widely used by both sides during the CWar,but also in the Iraq War. Here's just one example pf how the US paid for a secret British disinformation campaign. So if one believes that the MI=6 agent Steele, did all his work for "nothing",tickle yourself in the tummy! He would've had access to enormous slush funds from his benefactors, untraceable, while he enjoyed working from his fancy upmarket address in Belgravia and his GBP 1.% M London home.

to give you the benefit of the doubt and assuming I have not understood your post, there are a number of different things here:

1. Right wing in the European parliament - a body with powers only to determine how many fish can be caught, how soft cheese can be and what shade of yellow can be used in traffic signs across member states. The far right parties here are UKIP from the UK, Front Nationale (France), 5 Star in Italy, etc. Most of these are parties who have limited reach in their home countries - particularly true for the UKIP. So for example Farage who is a member of the European parliament (but not the UK parliament) is the UK's fisheries representative to the EU but has not shown up for any of the debates or votes and now complains loudly that the UK has not had any say on the fisheries quotas in the north sea - and therefore brexit is a good thing. It also happens to be the case that british fishermen are allowed the largest landed catch of any European country according to EU quotas... but that's an inconvenient truth!

2. Right wing in National parliaments within Europe - each member state has its own parliament and its own parties. these parliaments have the power on trade, defence, international relations, etc. The vast majority of these parliaments are centrist with a little bit left and a little bit right, and except for coalitions the far right parties rarely come to any serious standing. In my reading, the (US) Democrats would qualify as a centre-right+ party in most European countries, but mostly due to a more rigid divide between Europe and America on the issue of the welfare state. The Republicans would be significantly more right-wing.

3. Far Right parties - the most established being the FN in France who have had a degree of mainstream political success, and there are similar in Austria and Holland, etc. Otherwise there are people like the British National Party, Pegida, etc., etc., who are mostly street fighting fascists who sometimes put on a veil of nationalism and recently anti-Islamism and their popularism goes up and down depending on various events. They have their equivalents on the far left, and generally these two groups keep each other busy. Unlike the left, the right part of this group specialises in street level harassment and violence against minorities - especially those with a different skin colour. This group is the one currently rising to the ascendant and are largely aligned to the alt-right movement in the US (which trump's campaign has ridden on and exploited). The lines are a little blurry with Group 2, but the overall sentiment with this part of the right is that white-Christendom is under threat and a new saviour is needed to lead the noble knights to a great victory against the infidel

in my experience, most American desis have little personal experience of group 3, but they are real and they are very dangerous. many of us desis living in Europe have known and felt them up close and personal for some time and its not a pleasant thing, and this is not a group that I believe needs any kind of encouragement - particularly not from desis. they are globalising around a shared ideology that is being reinforced by the internet and they are being exploited by various powers for their own ends

-IMO, Trump use of twitter ( 20M followers) to convey his message is understandable in view of his (latest) public spat with current CIA Chief ; he can get out his message quickly in case ....... ( fill in the blanks !)
-However, as China has cautioned him recently : TWITTER not good for international diplomacy ( I agree !)

that is largely correct. the UK system of first past the post prevents extremists from getting in. however - the centre right parties in the UK and France (and there are other examples) will happily appropriate far-right issues on say immigration controls if they are mid-way through an election campaign and they are falling behind in the ratings and pick up the racist surge. jaques chirac and margarent thatcher came to power doing exactly that for example - very cynical

Front Nationale in France managed to get past the street fighter phase and entered the main stream under le pen senior, and daughter now is taking it in to 'respectability' - so the centre right have already started muscling in on their turf - will be an interesting election in france this year. she was spotted having coffee in trump tower last week :-)

UK far right groups never managed to get past local government seats and certainly never do well in the national elections, so mostly these guys (national front, british national party) ended up in fractious internal feuding with the intellectuals spinning out and the thugs going back to regular thuggery. the intellectuals are more dangerous imo - and they link up with their Aryan blood-brothers in other countries

similar Nazi/fascist groups exist in every single European country - including the nice and cuddly Nordics (see Brevik) but they don't get past a few thousand members typically. some are doing very well on an anti-Islamic banner. it may come as a surprise to some to know that one of the biggest openly Nazi supporting skin head backed thug groups is in... Russia!

Deep insights into Donald Trump's business logic.

Donald Trump threatens 35% tariff on BMW imports
Donald Trump has threatened German carmaker BMW with a 35 per cent tariff on imports to the US from a new facility in Mexico as he escalated tensions with Europe ahead of his inauguration as US president on Friday.
...
The US president-elect also complained in Bild that Germans do not buy Chevrolets in similar numbers as German brands, such as BMW and Mercedes-Benz
...
When asked what Mr Trump could do to make sure German customers bought more American cars, Germany’s economy minister said: ‘Build better cars’ :rotfl:

Interesting times. DT may not impose any taxes etc on the products from EU but may proceed to impose them on the products etc from China, Mexico and other nations including India. US has huge two-way trade with EU, but not that much with other nations like China where it may be more of a one-sided affair.

and he is a Russian spy.

You're over generalizing.

The European right is trying to jump on the American bandwagon thinking that it was right wing people who got DT elected. Yet that was not the case as you can search the NYT statistics to see the actual vote distributions. It has more to do with the American lower middle class seeing no economic future and those who see the US involved in too many foreign wars and engagements. It was a revolt of the status quo and should DT not change this - then he too will be gone in 2020. IMHO, DT knows this and he's already piling on against the intelligence heads.

Europe, including Russia, has always been anti-Semitic and anti-immigrant. Since the collapse of the USSR, all of these Euro-fascists have been coming out and now think they can ride DT's coat tails. Perhaps they will win elections and the press will cite DT's victory, but again this is entirely misread.

The PC gangs of EU have also gone wild for the last two decades. Except for Germany, I do not know which EU nation has good employment opportunities, etc for the people. Voting during Brexit and Nov8 are almost similar with rural areas entirely voting aginst the establishment. Let us see what happens in this year's French and German elections.

First known instance in the post-911 era:
Hyder said that he and a few other SEALs began to bury the casualties near a ravine by piling rocks over them. As he did so, he approached the man Heath had shot. “He was partially alive, faced down, his back to me, and he rolled over. I shot him, finished him. He was dying, but he rolled over and I didn’t know whether he was armed or not. That was the end of that.” Hyder said that his single shot had blasted open the man’s head.

According to Hyder, the encounter ended there. But the retired SEAL who was on the mission tells a different story. According to this source, after shooting the man, who turned out to be unarmed, Hyder proceeded to mutilate his body by stomping in his already damaged skull. When Heath, who witnessed Hyder’s actions, reported them to his team leader in the presence of other members of the team, “several of the guys turned and walked away,” said the retired SEAL. “They were disgusted.” He quoted Heath as saying, “I’m morally flexible but I can’t handle that.” Heath refused to comment for this article.
And the justification (if that is the right word) for the same: "Taliban started it":
LESS THAN 48 HOURS before Objective Bull commenced, a small reconnaissance group from SEAL Team 6’s Red Team had tried to establish an observation post on the 10,000-foot peak of Takur Ghar, overlooking the Shah-i-Kot valley, where forces from the Army’s 10th Mountain Division intended to strike the last redoubt of al Qaeda forces massed in Afghanistan. Neil “Fifi” Roberts, a member of the SEAL recon team, fell 10 feet from the back of a Chinook and was stranded as the helicopter took fire from foreign al Qaeda fighters who were already on the snow-covered mountaintop. Two hours passed before the SEALs in the damaged helicopter were able to return. They didn’t know it, but Roberts was already dead, shot at close range in the head shortly after his helicopter departed the mountaintop. A Predator drone video feed filmed an enemy fighter standing over Roberts’s body for two minutes, trying to behead the dead American with a knife.

Eventually, two other elements of a quick reaction force — one of which included Hyder — landed at the top of Takur Ghar. In the ensuing 17-hour battle with the al Qaeda fighters, six more Americans were killed, and several were wounded. After the bodies were recovered, Hyder and the other members of Red Team were forced to reckon with the mutilation and near beheading of their fellow SEAL. Hyder was new to SEAL Team 6, but as the ranking officer on the ground during that operation, he was technically in charge. He took Roberts’s death hard.
Some of those photographs, especially those taken of casualties from 2005 through 2008, show deceased enemy combatants with their skulls split open by a rifle or pistol round at the upper forehead, exposing their brain matter. The foreign fighters who suffered these V-shaped wounds were either killed in battle and later shot at close range or finished off with a security round while dying. Among members of SEAL Team 6, this practice of desecrating enemy casualties was called “canoeing.”

The canoeing photos are dramatic documentary evidence of the extreme and unnecessary violence that began to occur during multiple high-risk, exhausting, and traumatizing tours of duty in Iraq and Afghanistan. “There is and was no military reason whatsoever to split someone’s skull open with a single round,” said a former SEAL Team 6 leader. “It’s sport.”

The former SEAL Team 6 leader said that he first noticed canoeing in 2004, and that it does occur accidentally on the battlefield, but rarely. He said canoeing became “big” in 2007. “I’d look through the post-op photos and see multiple canoes on one objective, several times a deployment,” the retired SEAL said. When SEAL Team 6 operators were occasionally confronted about the desecration, the SEAL leader said, they’d often joke that they were just “great shots.”

Canoeing was just one of several acts of mutilation frequently carried out by SEALs. Two different sources said that over a six-year period — roughly 2005 through 2011 — battlefield reports and accounts of atrocities, particularly mutilations and taking of trophies, were ignored by SEAL Team 6 leadership. One source said his superiors repeatedly refused to address the issue.
It is troubling when elite soldiers who are chosen rigorously, because they are supposed to be above all this, ends up doing these acts

New findings from the Pew Research Center released on Friday show that an overwhelming majority, 60 percent, of Americans agree that it is the responsibility of the federal government to make sure all Americans have healthcare coverage. These numbers have increased since 2014, when only 41 percent of Americans believed so. Last year, 51 percent held that view.

The poll divided Republicans and Democrats, however. Eighty-five percent of Democrats said the federal government should be responsible for health insurance, compared to just 32 percent of Republicans.

Can we believe the US polls now? I mean, after all, we have seen in the elections?

GOP may give some health insurance programme which is more flexible etc and more market oriented and less procedural one and may make it not a compulsory or forced one. They all have learned some things with Obomber's act which from the reports created a lot of mess.

For India its time to conclude that pending FTA with EU in a manner where it tilts to our terms.
The India-EU FTA talks, officially called the broad-based Bilateral Trade and Investment Agreement, have been stalled since 2013 as the negotiators failed to arrive at a compromise solution to address the demands of both the sides.

The EU’s key demands include India to drastically cut or eliminate duties on automobiles and wines and spirits, while India's main demands pertain to data security status (crucial for India's information technology sector to do more business with the EU firms) and easier temporary movement of skilled professionals. Both the sides have already held stocktaking meetings in January and February this year.
