Shiv saar, is anyone presenting? Perhaps we could find a projector or ask if prospective attendees have one to spare for the day?
Would be nice to see the vimaanpron by Vishal and some nuggets on the analysis.

Sounds like a plan
Re: Aero India 2017 - Feb 14 - 18
Lol! Joo are quick. An Idea discussed & you implement it ASAP!shiv wrote:I would be happy to make my place available for a BRF get together. Since I know Yusuf of DFI well I would be happy to include DFI people too. I have the place, but past experience tells me that arranging dinner poses needless logistical difficulties. So I could arrange place, munches and soft drinks. Liquor can be brought in if someone wants - but I live in a plastic free zone and plastic plates and glasses are ruled out. Beer cans can be brought in if anyone wants to tipple. Bring eats if you feel like it - but not compulsory - you wont get dinner but chips/peanuts type of stuff can be arranged.
A lunch meet would kill the joy of those who want to spend a day at the airshow. It takes a very long time to get back from Yelahanka into the center of the city where I live so people start showing up later and later spending the afternoon at the show. That is not a problem - but we must have some kind of time limit for the meet - and I have usually said 6 pm to 10-10-30 pm or some such thing.
As regards the date - I would suggest Saturday as the best compromise date. Please post feedback here. This is a tentative feeler - I have not spoken to SHQ yet - but she is happy to let me be with my crowd so I don't expect any issues there.

How does one go about getting ticket for Aero India , on the Aero India site they tell you to register.
Will we get Business Day Ticket over the counter once we reach AI after showing the printed copy of registration form or does it work any different this time around ? Thanks

This is what I believe will happen. Registering online gets you a barcode and a reg number which you print and carry to the venue to get a passAustin wrote: Will we get Business Day Ticket over the counter once we reach AI after showing the printed copy of registration form or does it work any different this time around ? Stupid AeroIndia site has mentioned three different things for the Visitor pass to the stalls at three different locations.
In the "Venue and Timing" page it says that Rs1600 ticket it for both week days from 9Am-5PM.
ON the registration info page for the same ticket it says its for Saturday 2pm-5pm, sunday 9am-5pm.
On the actual registration page where you need to enter details and pay, it says the ticket is only for Sunday 9am-5pm.
Which one of them is correct now..?? I don't want to buy that pass only for Sunday, that would be a waste.
I might just be going for Airshow afterall.
BTW which ticket gets you to static display..?? Do we need separate security clearance pass or the Rs2500 business pass works for that..??

The show ends on Feb 18 Saturday so what ticket is that for Sunday¿
Re: Aero India 2017 - Feb 14 - 18
LOL. Thanks for pointing that out Vishal. When I saw weekend pass for two days, I assumed its Sat-Sun. Didn't check the calendar at all. Last time it was there on SAT-SUN both days of weekend. So assumed likewise this time as well.Vishal Jolapara wrote:The show ends on Feb 18 Saturday so what ticket is that for Sunday¿
These are three pages where it lists three different timings for Rs1500 pass.
https://www.aeroindia.in/VenueTimings.aspx
https://www.aeroindia.in/GeneralVisitor ... gPage.aspx
https://www.aeroindia.in/GeneralVisitor ... ation.aspx
So the pass is only for Saturday then. Hmm. My planning has gone for a toss then.

Surprised that you do not have a pass despite being from the industry. I'd imagine you would prefer a weekday to avoid the crowds.JayS wrote:LOL. Thanks for pointing that out Vishal. To break it down, here's a Site Map from 2013 and I assume the arrangements will be no different this year round.
On the above links where it says:
IMO, this is one and the same thing/same class of ticket, different days.TIMINGS FOR BUSINESS VISITORS :
&
TIMINGS FOR VISITORS EXHIBITION AREA (ONLY FOR WEEKEND)
And the other category of ticket is the General Visitor's ticket, which will position you in the ADVA
This is the ADVA:
Here are the kinda shots you can get from there:
Saturday will be a day to stay away.
Hope you have a good experience.
Re: Aero India 2017 - Feb 14 - 18
I know. Its almost embracing. My company is kind of cheapo in this respect. If you put people from Service industry in top management this is what you get.Marten wrote: Surprised that you do not have a pass despite being from the industry. I'd imagine you would prefer a weekday to avoid the crowds.
Thanks Vishal. I have been to AI-15 and saw the Air Display. Plus the info on BRF - I have fair Idea of Air Display part.Vishal Jolapara wrote: Hope you have a good experience.
Can you tell me whether these Rs2500/Rs1500 tickets give access to Static display area or not?? I was told by someone that you need some express pass with higher security clearance to go there, which you only get from someone in IAF/DRDO/HAL etc.
Re: Aero India 2017 - Feb 14 - 18
Define "access" sir? If you mean getting real close to the aircraft line up, then NO. If you meant, can I look at the aircrafts from a few meters behind a fence? Well, yes. Saturday is probably the worst day to attend. Even getting a spot near the fence is almost impossible unless you are one of the first ones to be let inside the airbase and you never leave that spot. Heck, it is challenging to get a good spot even on weekdays. I hope you reconsider visit on Sat.
Some members of the press, including Vishal (even though he is not an official press rep), get the extra-pass to go on to the other side of the fence. I guess depending on the pull, you can get a glance at the cockpit as well. But most aam janta don't have the above privilege . Also there have been several BRF members with right connections who can get their hands on such passes.

Found this picture on Kallman's website. I suppose it applies to this year

Access = going in the Static display area. I am not sure but from what I saw from last time, static display area and the Exhibition area are separated. I saw people coming out from Exhibition area for AirDisplay but I thought they were not allowed to go to the static display area. Just wanted to know if Aam junata can at all go stand in front and have a good look at the static display line-up by paying whatever ticket price. But now I am seeing, from your post, its totally out of bound for Aam junata. Its rather sad.Zynda wrote:Define "access" sir? If you mean getting real close to the aircraft line up, then NO. I know what kind of thing goes on in that ADVA. You have to stand on chairs if you want to see anything. Last time I saw morning show from the rightmost part. And for afternoon show I went to the leftmost section at the end of runway. From there you can have a good look at fighters which are waiting for TO. Frankly I am not looking forward too much to stand in the harsh sunlight for 2hrs. Just yesterday I was watching LCA practice runs from roof-top and I didn't like the idea of doing the same for 2hrs. I hope BLR weather gives some respite next week.
BTW I wont be going on SAT. Not atleast for the Exhibition Area. That I will do on weekdays itself. Might go second time on SAT with colleagues just for Air Display again though.
Re: Aero India 2017 - Feb 14 - 18
I think the 1500 ticket buys you access to static display area but not the exhibitions/stall area. The exhibitions/stalls are hosted in the hangars and I believe to gain entry, you may need the 2500 ticket. As far as I can recall, ADVA people do not get access to either of them. May be it is possible to enter ADVA from Exhibition (although I doubt it...but others can confirm this), but I would think it would not be necessary as from static display area, one can witness the air display just even better, as it is considered as show centre, most of the manoeuvres are designed to be around show centre. I thought when you meant access to real close up of the aircraft.
BTW, the fence is not visible real good in the above picture, but that is as close as one can get with access to static display area. If you want real close up of the aircraft, perhaps you would need that extra high-security pass.
Edit: Also, this is how a typical crowd on Saturday (or Sunday which is not there this time) looks like
Edit: Just read your message in its entirety. Again my suggestion is to go on the 2nd day of Aero India. Its the day usually reserved for Defense PSU folks plus families along with business ticket holders (2500 one). At least in the past, it was relatively less crowded which afforded some breathing air along with movement. With AI gaining popularity, probably those dins are also quite crowded off lately!

Re: Aero India 2017 - Feb 14 - 18
^^ Saar, many thanks for the pics. Now I know exactly what's the deal for the static display area from that picture.
Last time I went on Thursday I think. There was not much crowd for morning show and since I hand around after first show till afternoon show, I could have had any place I wanted for the afternoon show. Had thought of going back on Friday for exhibition, but the sheer exhaustion of riding all the way from South BLR to Yelahanka and back made sure I didnt dare going again.
Perhaps I will go on Thursday. Wed might be difficult to take leave on. Lets see. t to take leave on.

How does one see past those parked planes? Wont the planes taking off be blocked from view by these?

This:
will look like this:
which is why ADVA is best if you want to have a clear line of sight with the runway action - provided you find a tall vantage point (almost impossible) or are right in front of the fence - tough.
I don't think the organizers think from the crowd's perspective. Almost all the world's major airshows are completely crowd-centric, Aero India is anything but
Re: Aero India 2017 - Feb 14 - 18
Time was when I stood under and Su-30 and discovered that I could just stand upright in the gap between the engines. Those days ended in 1998. From 2001 onwards no one is allowed near the static line up.JayS wrote:

Be prepared. It will be hot and sunny outside and there will be no place to sit inside or outside the halls and you will have to walk 2-3 km inside airconditioned halls to see all of them.
If you want to sit, drink cool drinks and yenjaay - choose ADVA for 1000 Rs less

Brilliant. No program/schedule for the aerial display either from what I saw on the website. Yep. The website is not that informative but fortunately BRF is. The morning aerial program starts around 10:00 AM and the afternoon around 2 PM I guess. The actual aerial display duration will be around 2.5-3 hours for each session.
