The underlying assumption here is that China will treat Pakistan as its own territory. That is in my opinion a baseless assumption. China will treat Pakistan like a colonial power treats its colony. It will outsource law and order, ensuring safety of its investments and its citizens and of course the colony will pay for the facility. At best, religion will be left alone; at worse, it will be perverted to satisfy Chinese interests - for instance troublemakers questioning aspects of this neo-colonial relationship will have fake blasphemy cases foisted on them, and they will disappear. If a mullah gets too big for his shoes, a plaint and even more rabid mullah will be projected as a replacement.

very true. the religion they will leave well alone but will co opt a few influential mullahs to their viewpoint.

the hans will rule using the brit model so well tried and tested in India for centuries.

they have already neatly and efficiently co-opted the paki army by suborning the crore commanders and assuring them of lucrative post retirement benefits as securely guards for the han projects

the paki elites will be fed cream, the paki army some beef or equivalent and the hans will quietly dine off the caviar and cart away the balance along with the fine cutlery/crockery.

and all the while, the pakis will be in perpetual hock to the hans, right up to their bushy islamic eyebrows.

CPEC-loving Pakistan needs to learn from Beijing’s recent treatment of Muslims

NEW DELHI: China is walking an extra mile to operationalise China-Pakistan Economic Corridor under the One Belt One Road (OBOR) project but Beijing's recent treatment of Muslims in Xinjiang region has lessons for Islamabad, which is relying heavily on the corridor to change its economic fortunes.

In a latest move, the Chinese authorities have banned the use of names such as Muhammad, Haji, Islam and Imam for babies in Xinjiang. Names that start with 'Turk' — such as Turkizat and Turkinaz — have also been banned.

The Chinese authorities claim that this move will curtail 'religious fervour'. The new law also prevents people from rejecting 'radio, television or other public facilities and services', marrying in accordance with religious rather than legal procedures, and using the 'halal' principle to interfere with the 'secular life of others', according to people familiar with Beijing's latest moves to dictate lifestyle of the Muslim community.

Last year, the Chinese authorities had imposed a ban on 'abnormal' beards and full-face and body coverings for the Muslims. The new code also comes after the appointment of Chen Quanguo as the chief of the Xinjiang unit of the Communist Party of China. Chen had earlier quelled protests in Tibet.

Beijing's tough measures in Xinjiang include neighbourhood 'grid' reporting systems, widespread checkpoints and searches, extensive electronic surveillance, confiscation of passports and compulsory political education courses for Uyghurs who visited abroad.

"The legislation codifies security policies that have been applied patchily throughout the region in recent years as part of government efforts to combat religious extremism. It also forms part of a response to a series of deadly attacks in Xinjiang and in other parts of China. Since 2011, China has spent more per annum on domestic security than on external defence. The cost of China's domestic security policies — once euphemistically known as 'stability maintenance' but increasingly described as 'national security' — is likely to escalate in the future. Many of these costs will be difficult to measure in monetary terms," Ben Hillman, senior lecturer at the Crawford School of Public Policy of the Australian National University, pointed out in a recent paper titled 'China's dangerous ethnic policies in Xinjiang'.

"The increasingly draconian security policies adopted in Tibet and Xinjiang target entire populations and have become sources of deep resentment," Hillman explains in his paper. "They create the perception that Uyghurs and Tibetans are second-class citizens in China, and that the Chinese Communist Party does not value or respect local cultures despite the existence of formal laws that purport to safeguard minority rights...development policies that are rapidly transforming and homogenising cultural landscapes, and assimilationist policies that are said to promote inter-ethnic 'mingling', but amount to little more than incentives for adopting secular Han Chinese ways," according to Hillman.

However, China's policies toward Uyghurs and its 20 million strong Muslim community might draw ire of its Muslim majority neighbours in Central Asia, key to Beijing's OBOR initiative, according to China watchers. Uyghurs were allegedly involved in an attack on the Chinese embassy in Kyrgyzstan in 2016 and Thai police allege that Uyghurs carried out a bombing in Bangkok in 2015 that killed 20 people, mainly Chinese tourists.

"If China is perceived as anti-Islam, its home-grown Uyghur extremists might not be the only threat," Hillman said in his paper. "Chinese citizens and assets could become targets for terror outfits in Central Asia, South Asia and the Middle East. Chinese-funded ports, railways, canals, dams and pipelines could become vulnerable to terrorist attacks."

Two Chinese nationals were recently killed in Pakistan, following which Chinese President Xi Jinping snubbed Pakistan's Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif at the SCO Summit last week in Kazak capital Astana.

Pakistan shelves $2b LNG project

ISLAMABAD: As Saudi Arabia adopts an aggressive policy in the Middle East by cutting ties with Qatar, the PML-N-led government has shelved the $2 billion Gwadar-Nawabshah pipeline project, an alternative plan to implement Iran-Pakistan (IP) gas pipeline project following US sanctions against Tehran, in a move that will likely intensify row between Islamabad and Tehran on the gas pipeline project.

Qatar and Iran had been competing to provide gas to Pakistan.

The United States (US) had been pushing Pakistan to shelve the IP gas pipeline project and asking it to sign an LNG deal.

Pakistan had followed this policy and signed an LNG contract with Qatar where majority shareholders were US, Japanese and EU companies.

In a new development, Qatar started laying LNG gas pipeline in Pakistan. The proposal was taken up during the visit of Emir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad bin Khalifa al Thani in January this year.

This will not be a setback to Tehran but it would be a blow to China who had been denied this project.

Pakistan and China had signed a framework agreement on April 20, 2015 to award LNG Gwadar-Nawabshah pipeline and LNG terminal contract without a bidding process.

In addition, Pakistan had given a firm commitment to Tehran that it had started a LNG Gwadar pipeline contract, an alternative plan of implementing IP gas pipeline project and informed it that this pipeline would be connected with the Iran border once sanctions have been lifted.

Pakistan was bound to get gas from Iran from January 2015 and could face $3 million per day penalty for failing to receive gas under sales purchase agreement (GSPA). But Tehran had not pressed Pakistan and did not sue it in international court after Pakistan had held out assurance that it was going to start work on the LNG Gwadar pipeline project and that the remaining portion of 80 kilometers would be connected with the Iranian border once sanctions are lifted against Tehran.

The decision was taken in a high-level meeting chaired by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in the first week of this month. During the meeting, ministry of petroleum was directed to drop the Gwadar-Nawabshah LNG terminal and pipeline project and to immediately start work for setting up a new LNG terminal at Port Qasim, Karachi.

The project had been dropped on the pretext of higher cost despite the fact that the Executive Committee of National Economic Council (ECNEC) had approved this project after detailed cost examination.

An official of petroleum ministry pointed out that the Price Negotiating Committee, constituted by the ECC, had finalised the contract cost and the Executive Committee of National Economic Council (Ecnec) had also accorded its approval.

The committee has agreed on a cost of $30.70 per inch metre for the purchase of pipeline material and construction contract compared to $31.2 at which Sui gas companies have laid pipelines.

“This will result in savings of $200 million per annum,” the official said, adding that the price committee had set steel cost in talks with the Chinese company at Rs75,000 per ton one year ago. Sui gas companies had purchased steel at 100 per cent higher rates.

Ecnec has approved the project at a cost of $48.32 per inch metre. The cost includes purchase of pipeline material, its construction, engineering and other facilities and non-EPC work including right of way, land acquisition, consultancy and auxiliary costs.

Exim Bank of China will provide funds at London Interbank Offered Rate (Libor) plus two per cent. During initial negotiations, the tolling fee for the Gwadar LNG terminal was estimated at 30 to 32 cents per million British thermal units (mmbtu) against 60 cents per mmbtu for Engro Terminal and 41 cents per mmbtu for second LNG terminal being set up in Karachi.

LeT ( Not Lashkar  ) The Backlash Against Chinis Begins In The "Holy Month Of Ramzan" :D

Battagram locals halt work on CPEC tunnel project protesting non-payment of compensation :D

Almost 100 locals in Battagram's Gajborai area on Tuesday stormed the site of a China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) project, forcing Chinese workers to halt construction, in protest over non-payment of compensation for their land.A photograph of the under-construction tunnel falling under the CPEC. Nearly 1,000 locals have been affected by the construction of a tunnel falling under the CPEC scheme that runs for 60 kilometres from Kas Bridge to Thakoot Bridge. Potentially, there could be as many protests as there are CPEC projects
Locals fear that as work on the tunnel progresses, their houses will be demolished and land seized, as the government has already seized the land of some locals without making compensatory payment, members of a local action committee told Dawn. To prevent a nation wide backlash against "taller than mountain flied" , Ganja Sharif ( when he finds time !) should address the nation and allay fears about "the Chinese takeover of Pakistan" under the guise of CPEC. He should also assure of fair compensation for "everything" that is being seized or requisitioned under the pretext of CPEC
he 35-member CPEC Affectees Action Committee headed by Haji Anwar Baig, Gul Muhammad Khan, Muhammad Hanif and Altaf Hussain led the protest, which was staged after locals warned they would disrupt work on the multi-billion dollar initiative until they were paid a competitive rate as compensation for their property. In Abottabad and Haripur, the government has started distribution of compensatory payment. In Mansehra, affectees have been assured that their payment will be made to them before the completion of the project, a local journalist told Dawn. So, this "disease of compensation" is not just a La-Whori problem, but is also becoming a" national headache" for Ganja Govt
The construction of the tunnel has also created difficulties for locals who use chairlifts to travel, the action committee said. There are 15 chairlifts in Battagram, a local journalist told Dawn. After construction on the project is complete, locals will be able to use the tunnel route. In the meantime, however, their mode of transport will be affected. The affectees said they would not allow work to continue on the CPEC project until compensatory measures are taken.Deputy Commissioner Sardar Asad Haroon, when contacted, told Dawn that he is aware of peoples' concerns, adding that he had spoken to the NHA to expedite the issue as per law. In their zest to "be in bed with the Chinese" ASAP , ( CPEC is the next best thing to "sliced bread" !) the Pakistan Govt threw all caution to the wind and forgot about due diligence, environmental impact, adequacy of finances. These are basic concepts of Project Management 101 !!

2 slain nationals' 'preaching' allegation will be probed: China - PTI
China will continue to verify the kidnapping and killing of its two nationals by the ISIS militants in Pakistan and will cooperate in investigating their alleged illegal "preaching" activities in the Muslim nation, the Foreign Ministry said today.

The Ministry's response came after China's official media yesterday accused South Korean Christian groups of converting young Chinese and sending them for proselytising in Muslim countries.

Earlier, Pakistan had said the two Chinese nationals killed by ISIS were involved in "preaching" in the country.

In a statement late last night, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lu Kang said China had not received any official confirmation of the deaths from Pakistan and will do its best to verify reports that the two have been killed as soon as possible, Lu said.

Reports from Pakistan said the two were killed by Islamic State group after being abducted by gunmen dressed as policemen in Quetta last month.

The Islamic State terror group has claimed that it had killed two Chinese hostages, including a woman, who were abducted by armed gunmen from restive Balochistan province.

China firmly opposes all kinds of terrorism and extreme violence targeting civilians and supports Pakistan's efforts to combat terrorism and safeguard domestic security, Lu said, adding that China will work with the international community in the fight against terrorism.

China appreciates Pakistan's efforts to rescue the two hostages and its commitment to better protect Chinese nationals and institutions in Pakistan, Lu said.

China has always asked its citizens to abide by local laws and regulations, respect local customs and be aware of risks when in foreign countries, he said.

Lu said China will cooperate with Pakistan's investigation into illegal preaching activities allegedly undertaken by the two of its nationals.

Pakistani Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar on Monday directed the ministry to review, regulate and streamline the process of issuing visas to Chinese nationals.

Nisar said that all Pakistani missions were bound to undertake proper scrutiny of visa applications and must get all necessary details before exercising their power to issue visas to foreign nationals. {AoA onlee}

Gulf diplomatic crisis: Saudi King Salman asks Nawaz Sharif to choose sides
Islamabad: "Are you with us or with Qatar?" Saudi King Salman raised this question during a meeting with Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, who had visited the Gulf kingdom for finding a diplomatic solution to the Qatar crisis.
The Saudi monarch asked Sharif to take a clear position on Qatar during their meeting in Jeddah on Monday, The Express Tribune reported, citing diplomatic sources.
"Pakistan has told Saudi Arabia it will not take sides in the brewing diplomatic crisis in the West Asia after Riyadh asked Islamabad 'are you with us or with Qatar'," the report said.
Pakistan has been treading a careful path since Saudi and other Gulf countries snapped diplomatic ties with Qatar after accusing the oil-rich country of supporting terrorist groups. But Saudi wants Pakistan to side with the kingdom, it said.
Citing a senior government official, who was briefed on the talks at the monarch’s palace in Jeddah, the paper said that Pakistan would not take sides in any event that would create divisions within the Muslim world.
"Nevertheless, in order to placate Saudi Arabia, Pakistan offered to use its influence over Qatar to defuse the situation. For this purpose, the prime minister will undertake visits to Kuwait, Qatar and Turkey," it said.
Sharif, accompanied by army chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa and other senior officials, travelled to Jeddah on Monday to discuss the emerging situation in the Gulf world.
Prime Minister Sharif's mediation visit to Saudi did not achieve any immediate breakthrough.
According to an official statement, Sharif met King Salman in Jeddah and urged an early resolution of the impasse in Gulf in the best interest of all Muslims.

Pak is against India. The rest is negotiable.

Creeping Chinese Influence Illustrated Here !

Beijing to investigate if abducted Chinese pair in Quetta were missionaries
Reuters.

China's Foreign Ministry on Tuesday said it would work with Pakistani authroties to investigate reports the two Chinese nationals abducted by the militant Islamic State (IS) group in Quetta were missionaries.Ministry spokesman Lu Kang in a statement said China attached great importance to protecting the safety and legal rights of Chinese nationals overseas, but must adhere to local laws and regulations and respect local traditions and customs.
"As for reports that the relevant Chinese nationals were suspected of illegal missionary work in Pakistan, we will cooperate with the Pakistan government and launch an investigation in accordance with the law," Lu said. IOW, they do not have confidence that the Pakis will do the job properly !
The Interior Ministry on Monday alleged for the first time that the two were preachers who had abused the visa system by posing as business people to enter the country. “Instead of engaging in any business activity they went to Quetta and under the garb of learning Urdu language from a Korean national... were actually engaged in preaching,” the ministry said in a statement. .It did not say what kind of preachers they were, nor did it say if the Korean was from North Korea or South Korea. Where is the efficient "system of security" which the Pakis assured the Chinese that they will provide to all their nationals who are working here in Pakistan !!!.In his statement, Lu reiterated that China opposed all forms of terrorism and commended the Pakistan government's pledge to continue protecting Chinese people and businesses in the country. ( criticism of the Pakis under the guise of diplomatic language)

A week on, China says still in the dark over 'killings' of its nationals in Pakistan
The ISIS had claimed to have kidnapped and killed two Chinese nationals in Balochistan last month.
China has said it was still waiting for Pakistan to confirm last week's reports on the kidnapping and possible murder of two Chinese nationals in Balochistan.
Expressing "high concern" today, almost a week after reports said ISIS had claimed the kidnapping and had reportedly killed the two young Chinese nationals, the Chinese Foreign Ministry said, "Till date, Pakistan has not confirmed this information to China".
"I should stress that on the possible killing of the two kidnapped Chinese nationals in Pakistan we express high concern," spokesperson Lu Kang said, adding that China was "now intensifying our efforts to verify the relevant information."
Since Tuesday, China's State media has sought to shift the focus of the case away from the question of the safety of its nationals in Pakistan towards allegations that the two Chinese were "preachers".
CHINA GOES SOFT ON PAKISTAN
In what appeared to be an attempt to ease pressure on Pakistani authorities on the question of safety of Chinese nationals in Pakistan - a matter of increasing concern in China at a time when its investments in the country are expanding rapidly - the Party-run tabloid Global Times in a Tuesday article alleged the two young Chinese were not language teachers as previously reported, but had been hired by Korean missionaries to preach.
The report further insinuated that the two may have been at fault for the kidnapping by angering locals by preaching door to door. The Global Times did not speak to the relatives of the two abducted Chinese but cited unnamed sources.
The Global Times report was even shared on social media by the Communist Party's Youth League, which has wide following. Diplomatic sources suggested the attempt to shift focus to preaching may have been aimed at assuaging the widespread concern on the fate of the two young nationals.

I think the chinese are different. They have a different strategic game in mind and have a longer term bet in pakistan. They are there to stay (initial losses not withstanding). Thats why the chinese are initially willing to be eager supplicants to the bakis (deeper than the deepest....and all that load of crap). Once they take control, the demands will come later.

Pakistan Govt Faces Embarrassing Questions Over Visa Policy To Chinese Nationals :P

Chinese Visa Policy

An accountability court in Peshawar has issued arrest warrants of three female Chinese directors of a mining company, Tuny Pak Mineral Private Limited, after they failed to appear in a case of alleged smuggling of a chemical substance antimony. This highlights how easy it is for foreign individuals to enter the state and act according to their own will and then disappear without consequence. However, the federal government on Monday decided to review and strictly regulate its visa policy for Chinese. This was not because of any corrupt activities being witnessed but due to the recent abduction and killing of two Chinese nationals in Balochistan, which was claimed by IS. Shutting the barn darwaaza ( door ) after the horse has bolted
n response to the situation, the interior ministry has announced the Chinese visa policy to be streamlined.Visa applications will be carefully reviewed to gather all the necessary information, and it will be ensured that no one violates the terms and conditions of the visa granted to them.National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) will be involved in the process to create a databank of the Chinese nationals present in various parts of the country. So, before this, every Han, Lui and Chow were approved for visa without review to please the" ilon fliend" !
While this is all fine, and the only concern here is why wasn’t this being done anyway, one wonders what anyone is doing about the original problem of IS killing foreign nationals on our soil? While it is a necessary move to for the benefit of the country, it is inexplicable that the Interior Ministry is linking the murder of the Chinese nationals in Quetta to the proposed changes in the visa policy. The investigation of the two Chinese is being taken care of by the Chini Govt
Is this just a gimmick to cover up the absence of state’s writ in the province of Balochistan and the growing influence of IS in the region? This is not the first time that an abduction has taken place in the province.Nor is this the first terrorist attempt. And it surely would not be the last. RAA is very active there !!
The reason why the story caught the attention of mainstream media was because foreign nationals were involved and the Chinese government pushed for answers.Does the Interior Ministry not see how this will look to China? That two Chinese were killed, and then Pakistani officials blamed them for their own death, citing that they abused their visa requirement?Yes, we can admit that the influx of Chinese citizens will bring opportunists and new brands of corruption, but that was expected. What is also expected is a fool-proof law and order situation ( the govt can "order" a "fool proof system" if it wants  ) to protect locals as well as foreigners.

The people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa are very hardy people, true to their word, unlike the surrender monkeys of Pakjabistan.
These people have, in their own words, defeated two super powers already. They will defeat the evil machinations of a third aspiring superpower - China.

The un-religious and atheist chinese will learn that nothing is more important than deen for the people of Pakistan, and that the people of the land of pak will never compormise on their religious choice. The people of Pakistan will struggle forever to not be converted to some other religion.

I don't know what the trade angle is, it seems to be a trick to suck out whatever money and resources that Pakistan has. But the real deal is to harvest all the Pakistani souls. THAT is the hidden secret that Chinese presence in Pakistan hopes to achieve.

What ever else you do, you have to appreciate the fearlessness of the korean and chinese workers in Pakistan. They did not fear the taliban, the haqqanis, the LEJ or the ISI.
They went into the villages, into the hinterland to do what they had come to do.

These people are fearless, as far as their main mission is concerned. They will ultimately prevail, no matter what their losses are, no matter how many are killed, they will prevail in the end. Their mission is relentless.

Qatari Prince Not Coming To Pakiland To Give "Evidence" To Support Ganja Sharif

Qatari prince says ready to record statement with Panama JIT in Doha

The Panama case Joint Investigation Team (JIT) has receivPed another letter from Qatari prince Hamad Bin Jasim Bin Jaber Al Thani today.
According to the sources, the letter states that the royal family member has no issues if investigators visit him in Doha to record his statement.
Earlier, the Qatari prince had refused to appear before JIT. With what is going on in Qatar these days, the Al- Thani family has more important matters to deal with, than give "false affivadits" to support a 420 like Nawaz
During hearing of Panama Leaks case, on January 26th, Sharif family submitted second letter from the Qatari prince in the Supreme Court to establish the money trail of London apartments. In his letter to the apex court, Qatari Prince Hamad Bin Jasim Bin Jaber Al Thani claimed that an investment of 12 million dirhams contributed by Mian Muhammad Sharif (father of PM Nawaz) was made “by way of provision of cash”. Letters can be forged! By the way, where did "Abbaji" get hold of 12 million dirhams to make the investment . Did Zia-ul- Haq lend him the money . ?So called JIT should get to the bottom of this gol-maal
Qatari Prince Al-Thani, in his second letter to the Supreme Court also sought to answer the questions raised after presentation of his first letter. The letter says PM Nawaz’s father, Mian Muhammad Sharif, made an investment of approximately 12 million dirhams in the Al-Thani family’s real estate business. If Nawaz is still in power when the next Houbara hunting season arrives, the Qatari Prince may find "difficulty" in obtaining the necessary permission to hunt same - Ganja's way of getting even

Saudi embassy promises to resolve Pakistani pilgrims' visa issue soon :D

IMO, the Saudis are going an "extra mile" to assuage the hurt feelings ( Ganja visit and his shabby treatment  ) of their Ummah Brother - Pakistan . This public assurance to "fix the problem" plus the earlier report of "extra visa stamps" provided to Pakis to expedite the backlog of the faithfools who want to fulfill one of the four or five "pillars" of Malsi before they depart "upstairs". However, these days the Saudis are paranoid about the security situation in the "Land Of The Two Holy Mosques" - Medina and Mecca ( although this city is fast becoming converted into a Big Shopping Mall ) Just the other week, Paki authorities at La-Whore Airport nabbed a Hajj going couple. They found thousands and thousands of dollars worth of heroin in their suitcase . So, with all their inefficiencies and their ad-hoc decision making system ( depending on what is the mood on that day !) , I do not blame the Saudis one bit of being extra careful in granting Hajj visas to their unreliable ally

Foolproof security measures chalked out for PM

ISLAMABAD: Repair and maintenance work of the main roads adjoining the Federal Judicial Academy is in full swing as JIT probing into the Sharif family’s murky business dealings abroad has summoned Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on June 15.Sources said that the workers of Civic Agency are busy removing the garbage from the roads going toward the Judicial Academy. The banners in the favour of the prime minister also have been displayed in the red zone and especially in the surroundings of the Judicial Academy.Pakistan Muslim League –N (PML-N) has postponed all activities including its emergency meeting of local government of Islamabad. As many as 500 police officials would be deployed from PM house to FJA while outside the academy ranger’s officials would also be deployed.Sources said that foolproof security measures have been chalked out for PM which will be supervised by the security division and security operation division. PML-N leader Hanif Abbasi and Mayor Sardar Nasim have visited the main roads and checked all the security measures. It is vital to mention here that JIT has summoned PM on June 15 while his elder son Hussain Nawaz five time whereas Hussan Nawaz two times have appeared before the JIT.

Why this massive security, clean up act and unnecessary inconvenience to Isloo residents, hain -ji !. Did not Nawaz himself "boasted" that he is appearing before JIT in his personal capacity . Instead of closing roads, putting sharp-shooters at strategic locations ( just in case ....), Nawaz should set an example and proceed on paedal , like the Aam Abdul that he pretends to be.

So if there are more preaching chinese, momins will get angry and attack them. If non-preachiing chinese are attacked, the China gov will get angry.

So it a choice for Pakistan, which "angry" is more dear to them.

From India's point of view, can we pay someone in Pak to buy a printer and paste some "Jesus poster" on the walls?

Paki momins will take care of the rest.

Saudis Are Not Interested In "Paki Honest Brokering" . Want To Know ( like 9-11 !) Are you With Us Or With Qatar

Are you with us or with Qatar, Saudis ask Pakistan
The Express Tribune > Pakistan

ISLAMABAD:
Pakistan has told Saudi Arabia it will not take sides in the brewing diplomatic crisis in the Middle East after Riyadh asked Islamabad “are you with us or with Qatar”.The Saudi demand for Pakistan to take a clear position on Qatar came during a meeting between Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Saudi King Salman bin Abdulaziz, diplomatic sources told The Express Tribune.Premier Sharif, who was also accompanied by army chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa and other senior officials, dashed to Jeddah on Monday to discuss the emerging situation in the Arab world. Where does that leave the "Other Sharif" who is currently employed by the House Of Saud
Pakistan has been treading a careful path since Saudi Arabia and other Gulf countries snapped diplomatic ties with Qatar after accusing the oil-rich country of supporting terrorist groups. But now Riyadh wants Islamabad to side with the kingdom as it ramped up efforts to isolate Qatar. How will Pakistan look, if it now sides with the Saudis and against the Qataris, and as expected the "Two Arab Brothers", kiss and make -up, in a few months , through the "good offices" of the Kuwaitis . Where does that leave Pakistan - na ghar ka na ghat ka (kutta !)
A senior government official, who was briefed on the talks at the monarch’s palace in Jeddah, told The Express Tribune that the Pakistani side told the Saudi leadership that Islamabad would support any efforts to foster unity among the Muslim Ummah. However, Pakistan would not take sides in any event that would create divisions within the Muslim world. Pakistan has leverage over the Saudis ; they can "refuse" to sell the "off the shelf bum" to the Saudis
Another official familiar with the development explained that Pakistan would only complement efforts of Kuwait to defuse the crisis in the Arab world instead of playing the role of a direct mediator between Qatar and other Gulf countries. The official said Pakistan was not directly mediating between Qatar and Saudi Arabia at this stage. If the Saudis agree to "mediation" they would prefer an pure blooded Arab to do the job, rather than a miskeen like Pakistan !
Meanwhile, leader of the opposition in the National Assembly Khursheed Shah claimed that the prime minister’s visit to Saudi Arabia could not achieve the desired results and hence no joint statement was issued.Speaking to reporters, he demanded that the government clarify the role of former army chief General (retd) Raheel Sharif in the Saudi-led counter terrorism alliance in the wake of ongoing developments. Raheel is busy these days at the Yemen Front ; devising ways and means - and advising the Crown Prince how to implement the Anti- Shia policies at the Border

Mush Moves To Movie- Making :D

Pervez Musharraf's movie 'Insha'Allah Democracy' premiered at SDF

The political situation in our country is no less then a drama. Over the years, leaders have come and gone or tried overthrowing one another. In the midst of all this, there was one particular General, Pervez Musharraf, who staged a coup in 1999 that allowed him to take over Pakistan and subsequently place the then Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif under a strict house arrest. This was before moving towards a trial against him. With an ex-Chief of Army Staff who served as President, people from all over the world have kept a close eye on the politician, and now his documentary Insha'Allah Democracy was premiered at the Sheffield International Documentary Festival.

Good preclude by the reviewer;; BRF readers are glad to know that Mushy has at last found his "true calling" - in the movie making business  Many here long suspected that his "acting abilities" and his "publicity stunts" were superb . And are at last glad and hope that this becomes his full time career . After his exit from the political scene, many observers suspected that he had become more of an entertainer rather than a politician in the running , specially when it was proved beyond a doubt that his health situation was not as precarious as it was made out to be. And the Paki Entertainment Industry should accept him with open arms now .
The documentary received positive reviews from the Huffington Post as shown on the poster, and was to be screened on June 13 at the festival. In this personal exploration of the politics turbulent post 9/11 Pakistan, filmmaker Mohammed Naqvi has gone in search of a leader who can keep him safe in a climate of escalating terror attacks. He finds himself drawn to the exiled, enigmatic General Musharraf and films him over four years, during which the former president who hopes to govern once again, is soon accused of treason.Produced by Mohammed Naqvi and Jared Ian Goldman, (Angrezi Yahudi  for the Enlighted Mush ) the movie is 92 minutes long and will explore acts of corruption, crime, and injustice, moving from the front-lines to headlines. So, his bread and butter for a few years is now assured ; also some TV interviews sure to be booked by his American Agent !
