Pakistan Could Become The Next Syria According To This American Expert .

Will Pakistan Be The Next Syria-like Battleground?
By Lawrence Sellin Ph.D. ~
China is nervous. Over the last few months, the Chinese have encouraged and participated in talks between Iranian and Pakistani officials about the increasing tension along their joint border in Pakistan’s southwest province of Balochistan.
The Chinese are concerned about their multi-billion-dollar investment in the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), which is the regional linchpin of their global Belt and Road Initiative (BRI). CPEC is a transportation infrastructure and natural resources development project that aims to connect Asia through land-based and maritime economic zones. The backbone of CPEC is a road and rail network connecting China to the Pakistani seaports of Gwadar in Balochistan Province and Karachi in Sindh province, both located on the Arabian Sea along the strategic sea lanes to the Persian Gulf, the Suez Canal and Africa.
China has good reason to be jumpy because Balochistan is in the early stages of a developing Sunni-Shia conflict not unlike what eventually exploded in Syria and Yemen.
Traditionally known as secular and tolerant, Balochistan has largely succumbed to Pakistan’s decades-long program of Islamization, comprising a proliferation of Islamic fundamentalist schools, a Taliban headquarters and training sites and the logarithmic growth of extremist Sunni jihadi groups like the Islamic State (ISIS), some virulently anti-Shia and open to exploitation by states opposed to Iranian regional hegemony. The Taliban, who follow the Wahabi Sunni line are of course have their Shura ( Quetta) stationed in the capital of Paki Balochistan !
At the diplomatic level, Pakistan is unhappy with Iran’s growing ties with India, in particular with the their joint development of the Iranian port of Chabahar and its commercial links to Mumbai, India, which Pakistan sees as a competitor to the nearby CPEC port of Gwadar. Iran was angered by the appointment of Pakistani General Raheel Sharif as commander-in-chief of the Islamic Military Alliance (IMA), a counter-terrorism organization formed by 39 Muslim countries with its headquarters in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The IMA, the Muslim world’s NATO, does not include Iran and other Muslim countries with Shia leaderships, like Iraq. Regional tensions have been further increased by Saudi Arabian efforts to isolate Qatar, Iran’s only Arab friend. Agree 100% with the author on this !
Like what transpired in Syria, signs of a Sunni-Shia proxy war are appearing in Balochistan. In April 2017, members of one of those virulently anti-Shia Sunni militant groups, Jaish al-Adl, based in western Balochistan, killed ten Iranian border guards, which followed similar attacks since 2015. Such incidents have prompted Iran to retaliate with mortar strikes into Balochistan or drone intrusions, one of which was shot down by a Pakistani jet fighter in June 2017. Would not be surprised if Saudis have a hand in this trouble !
More ominously and largely undetected by U.S. intelligence, are the gatherings of large numbers of Sunni militant jihadi operatives in western Balochistan, rumored to be funded by Saudi Arabia and dedicated to additional and more deadly cross-border attacks on Iran. One such gathering is northwest of Panjgur, Balochistan in the hills nearby the village at map coordinates 27.179106, 63.659733. Hypothesis confirmed !
Also unnoticed by U.S. intelligence is the growing Iranian influence, funding and infiltration of elements of the Balochistan independence movement, which is a significant development, similar to the support given by Iran to Taliban groups in western Afghanistan. Not sure about this , as these kind of mischief making could have a blow-back effect in Irani Balochistan !
What remains astonishing to this author is the lack of attention U.S. policymakers devote to the situation in Balochistan, which already has and will increasingly have direct consequences on American and NATO operations in Afghanistan. The Taliban now has a permanent support infrastructure in Balochistan along the Afghanistan border, which is responsible for the majority of casualties, yet remains mostly outside of U.S. and NATO tactical response. The Pakis are very sensitive to any kind of US involvement / encouragement to Balochi insurgents , moreover the Baloch movement may not trust the Amreekis !
More broadly, Chinese economic and military ambitions and the potential for another Syria-like conflict will undoubtedly overtake current U.S. strategy with no obvious Plan B on the horizon. That should make the U.S. nervous. If a Syria like situation does develop, the Paki Fauj is to be blamed !!!

Iran Is Not Impressed With Paki Pretensions Of Neutrality In The Sunni- Shia Inter - Ummah Tussle :D

Iran fumes as Pakistan embraces KSA

November 29, 2017
ISLAMABAD - Pakistan’s closeness to Saudi Arabia and former army chief Gen Raheel Sharif’s formal appointment as the Islamic Military Counter-Terrorism Coalition commander has left Iran fuming as Tehran asked Islamabad not to support a “sectarian” alliance, The Nation has learnt.Senior officials at the foreign ministry said Iran had contacted Pakistan to reconsider its decision of spearheading the Saudi-led military alliance.
“They insist it is a Sunni alliance against the Shias. We are struggling to convince them [Iran] that this is an anti-terrorism alliance. They [Iran] are drifting away as we get closer to Saudi Arabia,” one official told The Nation. The Iranis are masters of this kind of a chess game . They know that when it comes to the crunch, the Pakis cannot afford to annoy one of their mai baaps ( Saudis )
He said the diplomatic contacts between Pakistan and Iran were ongoing on the issue and Pakistan hoped to placate Iran in the coming days. “We have assured them that we will quit the alliance if it proves to be sectarian. So far we are planning to eliminate terrorism not any Muslim sect,” the official added. So, how does one explain the targeting of the Shia Imambara just today in Isloo
Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi and army chief Qamar Javed Bajwa were in Saudi Arabia this week for talks with the top Saudi leaders on expanding the bilateral relationship. The Pakis are playing the same sort of game, Mush played with the Americans vis-a-vis the Taliban ( secretly supporting the Taliban and accepting American aid on the pretext of fighting the Taliban !)
General Bajwa had earlier visited Iran and held talks with President Hassan Rouhani. The meeting was termed “positive” by the officials on both sides.Pakistan had allowed Raheel Sharif ( who insulted the Irani President when he visited Pakistan !) to command the Saudi Arabia-led military alliance of several Muslim states after a request from Riyadh. The alliance was formed by Saudi Arabia in December 2015 with its headquarters in Riyadh.
Iran had objected to the formation of the alliance fearing it was a Sunni-alliance rather than a Muslim alliance. (uptil now, the so-called alliance is very active in the Yemen war, where it is using scorch earth tactics [ under the overall supervision of Raheel] to play havoc on the Shias of Yemen, under the guise of "fighting terrorism" ) . Pakistan had also delayed approval-to Raheel Sharif - considering Iran 's objections - for several months before finally giving a nod to the former army chief. The civilian govt is just a figurehead. No mai-ka-laal dare deny Raheel Sharif his post retirement job
This month, Iranian Ambassador Mehdi Honardoost had said the Saudi Arabia-led military alliance did not have the necessary ingredients of an alliance. “From the very beginning of its inception there have been a number of ambiguities about they have persisted so far. Saudi authorities have announced that objective of that alliance been fight against terrorism. While Iran , Iraq and Syria the main victims of terrorism are not part of that alliance,” he had told The Nation.Agree totally with the Ambassador !
Honardoost said Iran on the basis of non-inference in the internal affairs of other countries, considered presence or non-presence of Pakistan in this alliance as the discretion of Pakistan .“Joining or quitting the Saudi[-led] alliance depends on Pakistan . But the alliance is contrary to its motto of fighting terrorism,” he maintained.Another official at the foreign ministry told The Nation that Pakistan had defended the Saudi-alliance in talks with Iran . Due to its misplaced policies, Pakistan once again finds itself between a proverbial rock and a hard place
“There are misunderstandings but we believe Iran will understand that this alliance is not against them. We have assurances from Saudi Arabia in this regard,” he said. Press attaché at the Iranian Embassy, Abbas Badrifar, said the alliance included only the Sunni-majority states, which damaged its image. The Saudis with their money diplomacy have "purchased" Pakistan . Due to their bankrupt status, the Pakis have no choice !
“Pakistan is a sovereign country and can join or quit any alliance but we feel the Saudi coalition is only designed against Shias. It is not an alliance but a Sunni grouping,” he told The Nation. Badrifar said the victims of terrorism were not members of the coalition and had not even been invited to join the alliance. good question !
“Pakistan is a sovereign country and can join or quit any alliance but we feel the Saudi coalition is only designed against Shias. It is not an alliance but a Sunni grouping,” he told The Nation.Badrifar said the victims of terrorism were not members of the coalition and had not even been invited to join the alliance. Paki Jernail speaking from "both sides of his mouth" :D
Dr Shaheen Akhtar from the National Defence University said Iran was as important to Pakistan as Saudi Arabia so Islamabad should not lose Tehran at any cost.“Iran does have reservations against the alliance but Pakistan should try to placate them and improve ties with the important neighbour. We cannot have ties with one ally and annoy another friend,” she said. Public Relations helps improve the image of the product , if the substance of the product is genuine or good . In this case, the product ( Pakistan ) is rotten, so no amount of PR- giri will help . The Irani Govt and the Irani Ambassador is 100% correct

Gunmen attack Shia imambargah in Pakistan, kill 2 people

ISLAMABAD: Unidentified, motorcycle-borne gunmen on Wednesday opened fire outside a Shia imambargah here, killing at least two people and injuring three others, in a rare attack in Pakistan's capital.

The two gunmen fled after carrying out the attack in the I-8 locality of the city, police said.

One person died on the spot while one of the injured succumbed to his wounds, taking the death toll to two, Geo TV reported.

Emergency services shifted the injured to PIMS hospital and police have started an investigation into the incident, it said.

Allama Raja Nasir Abbas Jafri, leader of Majlis Wahdatul Muslimeen, expressed sorrow over the incident, saying the Islamabad administration has failed to prevent the crime in the capital.

He said they have foiled such conspiracies in the past and will continue to do so.

A spokesman for Tehreek-e-Nifaz-e-Fiqh- Jafaria (TNFJ) also denounced the incident, saying there is no sectarian divide in the country.

No group has claimed responsibility for the attack but banned extremist group Lashker-e-Jhangvi has claimed such attacks on minority Shias and their mosques in the past.

Foreign investments declining due to political instability, says Saad Rafique
Railways Minister Khawaja Saad Rafique on Wednesday said political instability in the country was the main reason behind a decline in foreign investments.
"If we hold a circus on daily basis then it would become difficult for our well-wishers to make investments," he said.
We want China to provide us longterm loans against a minimal markup but China wants to lend us on a mix basis, Rafique told the committee, adding that "Pakistan will not opt for a loan from China it appears useless."
Railways minister talking about political instability and lack of FDI. What next? Waist Bajwa commenting on SeePak....wait! That did happen, right?

PPP made history for democratic, invincible Pakistan: Bilawal
Bilawal pointed out the PPP suffered more than any struggle for democracy in the contemporary world  . From gallows to torture sales and public flogging, the PPP leaders and workers underwent every kind of misery and ruthlessness.
“During 50 years, several individuals and groups were pumped into political bubbles but the parties so created primarily to harm PPP, eventually vanished or littered.
PPP gifted the first-ever unanimous Constitution to the nation and laid foundations for an invincible, economically-stronger and egalitarian Pakistan
What idiot writes this moron's speeches?

reads like a poor translation by google translate esp " From gallows to torture sales and public flogging", " groups were pumped into political bubbles "parties so created primarily to harm PPP, eventually vanished or littered.". poxford-educated bilawal did not find anything wrong with this?

"torture sales" is a new one.
Would you like to be waterboarded after your 2-hour iron-maiden session? or we can just do the usual 300-floggings followed by a traditional impaling on a pointy spear for half the price. Or if you prefer more halal islamic torture methods, we have the iron goat and the very popular mullah sandwich inferno, followed by a traditional beheading. Here is the full brochure for your reading pleasure.
I think some genius in the newspaper just ran the speech through a speech-to-text comverter. "torture cells" got transcribed as "torture sales"

Khadim Rizvi's Leadership Of Tehreek- Labbaik Being Questioned

Ashraf Jalali says Khadim Hussain Rizvi does not head TLYRA
LAHORE: Head of Tehreek Sirat-e-Mustaqeem and his faction of Tehreek Labbaik Ya Rasool Allah (TLYRA) Dr. Ashraf Asif Jalali on Wednesday said that he does not recognize the agreement between government and Khadim Hussain Rizvi as Rizvi does not head TLYRA, ARY News reported.
Speaking exclusively to ARY News, Jalali, whose party is staging a sit-in outside Punjab Assembly, said that he only supported Khadim Hussain Rizvi in his cause but does not recognize the agreement between the cleric and the government as he (Jalali) was not taken into confidence. The plot thickens. Another Paki twist added to the claim for "Islamic flavour" for the month
“He (Rizvi) is heading a different organisation and is on a different path since about a year. I, as chairman (TYLRA), sent him a show cause notice, he did not reply and registered his party in Election Commission as Tehreek Labbaik Pakistan (TLP),” said Jalali during ARY News show “Off The Record”. Deep State wants Khadim. Deep State does not want Jalali
As the host Kashif Abbasi ran a video in which Peer Afzal Qadri, a Tehreek Labbaik leader, accused Jalali of running away and not heading the party properly, Ashraf Jalali maintained that Afzal Qadri was nowhere till 2014 and it was his party which introduced Khadim Rizvi in 2014. All the "hard work" - in Isloo- was done by Rizvi, so why should Ashraf claim credit for this
“I was elected by a millions of people and at least 70 religious scholars (as TLYRA head) and they (Rizvi and Qadri) were only selected by a few of their students,” claimed Jalali. Sour grapes
Image

IMO, Rizvi appears to be the "most green" of the above. He goes by the Islamic title of "Ameer ". No "Chairman" or "President" for this "die hard" Islami
A three-week-long dharna at Faizabad interchange of Islamabad finally ended on Monday after the government acquiesced to the demands of Tehreek Labbaik Pakistan (TLP), a political party headed by Allama Khadim Rizvi.Hundreds of Tehreek-e-Labbaik supporters had been camping at the interchange since November 6, calling for the resignation of Federal Law Minister Zahid Hamid who they blamed for a hastily-abandoned change in the oath of elected representatives. "Allama" Rizvi can now bask in his "well earned victory " , and his new power
Jalali, who heads Tehreek Sirat-e-Mustaqeem and his own faction of Tehreek Labbaik, however, is still staging a sit-in outside Punjab Assembly demanding resignation of provincial law minister Rana Sanaullah. Jalali is doing his own = =

An American Analist's First Hand View Of The Faizabad Dharna

Conspiracies behind Faizabad
Adam Weinstein. The writer is a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps and served in Afghanistan. He works as a policy analyst and focuses on South Asia and Iran. ( Yahood Conspiracy  )
POSTED IN FULL
Prior to what some view as a compromise and others as a surrender by the state, the Faizabad ‘dharna’ grew from a nuisance for commuters to a crisis for Pakistan. Each new crisis is perceived as an existential threat to the future of democracy and demanding nuance risks falling prey to the other side’s grand plot. But this attitude itself is a grave threat to long-term democracy. So far, so good !
There are conspiracies abound which attempt to explain the events at the Faizabad interchange. Perhaps it was grand strategy by the PML-N to win sympathy ahead of the elections. Or maybe the establishment orchestrated this fiasco to demonstrate to the US what alternatives may lie in wait if Washington ceases to sufficiently support the military. Of course, the demonstrations could have begun naturally. But rather than squash them, the powers that be saw an opportunity to mortally wound the PML-N while the PTI and PPP circled above like vultures. Maybe the protest is a genuine expression of concern for the finality of the Prophet (PBUH) and it is PMLN that created this crisis by refusing to release the findings of its own investigation into the culprits of a ‘Ahmedi conspiracy.’ There is a conspiracy theory for everyone’s biases which impedes anyone from having a substantive conversation. The author is "introduced" to the conspiracy theory environment of Pakiland
At best the military has tried to maintain a balancing act between responding to the calls of the government and its desire not to take sides. The PTI has criticized the government’s handling of the situation and demanded resignations, but their silence on certain elements has been deafening and lends credibility to those who accuse them of extremist inclinations. PMLN’s response has proven disorganised and incoherent. But in some ways the most disappointing response has come from the liberal elite across party lines who collectively claim to be the guardians of democratic values in Pakistan. These voices could have demanded a nuanced national dialogue but instead, many have retreated to unwavering ideological positions. But is this a surprise when so many among the liberal elite benefit from Pakistan’s severe inequality, oppose measures like land reform, and choose to selectively challenge its dysfunction? If the army opts to deal with only some protestors “peacefully” then the elites are equally selective about which democratic norms must be enforced. The American may not know that many so-called liberal elites of Pakistan have "insurance" in the form of a foreign passport or dual nationality, so that if an "Imam Khomeni" comes to power in Pakistan, then they can go abroad
The same voices that implore that the only viable future for Pakistan is a civilian led-democracy claim the ignorant masses can be herded by the Mullahs who are themselves shepherded by the silent hand of the military. Who then will be the constituents in this proposed civilian-led democracy? There is a risk of confusing correlation for causation when reflecting on popular protests in Pakistan. Rather than a sophisticated plot constructed by clandestine alliances it is more likely that the “establishment” takes advantage of organic social movements as they occur. It cannot be forgotten that this has also been enabled by the actions of two landed families. The Sharifs and Bhutto-Zardaris have comfortably existed in the unaccountable grey area that exists somewhere between good governance and military dictatorship. The corruption they have unapologetically indulged in has left them vulnerable to those who wish to undermine civilian rule. To acknowledge these realities is not akin to attacking the democracy of Pakistan. Rather it is its perpetrators that have already achieved that. The MQM party of Pakistan has long been an advocate of doing away with the feudal system , ( which India abolished in 1947 !) which (i) leads to almost slavery for the serfs, who till their lands and vote for their landlords' candidates (ii) exempts agricultural income from income taxes and therefore do not pay their fair share of income tax . The landlords, the military and the bureaucracy intermarry within each other and perpetuate the status quo
If the events at Faizabad are a plot against the PMLN then the half-witted rhetoric of Captain Safdar is even more myopic. If we accept that the establishment orchestrated Nawaz Sharif’s ouster does this exonerate his very real crimes? And so, the real gripe of the political elite is not so much that the people’s voice has been muted but that a large subset of the polity has rejected them. Is the slogan of progress really going to be reduced to finger-pointing at an establishment that is allegedly guiltier and less accountable than the civilian leadership? The American needs to know the origins of Pakistan, when many people became millionaires overnite, when Hindu and Sikh fled for their lives and their properties and moveable wealth were left behind . And then the state started "renting" itself out because of the so-called fear of its bigger neighbour . And it has been like that ever since !
Walking through Faizabad, it was incredible to me that just a few hundred protesters could set-up checkpoints in the capital, operate like de facto police, and shutdown the city. But this may mark a small but relevant turning point in the trajectory of Pakistan. Allegations that reduce the dharna to a ploy by the establishment ignore the reality that this cause is not being heralded by a Deobandi proxy. This is a Barelvi-led movement that has shrewdly, and even genuinely, rallied around the issue of an exclusive interpretation of Islam. Islamists parties have not been able to win elections in Pakistan, but they do shape policies. Write them off as political puppets at your own peril. That there may be ulterior motives for the dharna does not detract from the reality that it rallied around the views of a great number of Pakistanis and those views will continue to be harnessed by whoever can inspire them. The masses have been drugged for the last 70 years - and they still believe it - that Malsi is the only answer to all their problems !
It is imprudent to selectively criticize the military for attempting to appease “both sides” without examining the bigger picture. The temptation of conspiracy, even if true, and simple answers, must be resisted. If Pakistan is to survive the aftermath of this crisis and the next one then those who have influence over the national dialogue must be willing to retreat, at least momentarily, from their own positions and acknowledge the many contributing factors to the current state of affairs. The Army is corrupt. The bureaucracy is corrupt, the political parties are corrupt. The country is India obsessed . The Abduls are breeding like crazy . The younger generation is fed and educated - if they get education- on propaganda or partisan Islamic Ideology. So , at least in the short term, it does not look good , IMO

X Posted from the CPEC thread.

Article in The Globalist by James M. Dorsey , Senior Fellow at the Singapore based S. Rajaratnam School of International Studies on BRI and CPEC aka Conning Pakistan to Enrich China.

Article indicates that the Mohammadden Terrorism Fomenting Islamic Republic of Pakistan might just be cottoning on to the fact that there is no such thing as Free Halal Pork Haleem when it comes to dealing with Higher than Himalaya’s, Deeper than Indian Ocean, Sweeter than Honey, As Close as Lips to Teeth, Stronger than Steel All Weather Friend and Iron Brother, the Peoples Republic of China:
China’s Belt and Road Initiative Hits a Wall

Pakistan concerned about a neocolonial Chinese effort to extract the country’s resources.

By James M. Dorsey, November 30, 2017

In a rare challenging of Chinese commercial terms that underlie the country’s ambitious Belt and Road initiative, Pakistan and Nepal have withdrawn from two dam-building deals.

The withdrawal coincides with mounting questions in Pakistan, a crown jewel in Chinese geo-strategic ambition, about what some see as a neo-colonial effort to extract the country’s resources.

The withdrawals and questioning call into question China’s economics-centred approach to geopolitics based on the long-standing win-win principle of Chinese policy, the notion that all parties benefit from Chinese investment and largesse.

China wins twice

Critics have charged that the principle boils down to China wins twice, a notion that is supported by Chinese plans for Pakistan’s agricultural sector; the extraction of Pakistani onyx, granite, and black gold marble; the disagreement over the dams; and the debt traps that forced countries like Sri Lanka to surrender control of key assets.

Pakistan and Nepal announced their withdrawals last week in separate statements. Pakistani Water and Power Development Authority chairman Muzammil Hussain charged that “Chinese conditions for financing the Diamer-Bhasha Dam were not doable and against our interests.”

China and Pakistan were also at odds over ownership of the $14 billion, 4,500 megawatts (MW)-hydropower project on the Indus River in the country’s problematic region of Gilgit-Baltistan near disputed Kashmir.

Nepal’s Deputy Prime Minister and Energy Minister Kamal Thapa announced his government’s decision to scrap a US$2.5 billion deal with China’s Gezhouba Group to build a hydroelectric project on the Budhi Gandaki River in the west of the country two days before the Pakistani decision.

With India’s National Hydroelectric Power Corporation (NHPC) waiting in the wings and expectations that the incumbent, Nepali Congress (NC) will be returned to power in elections scheduled for November 26 and December 7, the project plays into Eurasia’s Great Game for regional influence.

China-Pakistan Economic Corridor

The Diamer-Bhasha project was intended to be part of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), a key node on the Belt and Road. With planned investments into infrastructure, including the port of Gwadar in the volatile province of Balochistan; energy, telecommunications and information technology, of more than $50 billion, it constitutes China’s largest financial commitment to any one country.

The Pakistani withdrawal takes on added significance because it was included in CPEC after the government had failed to secure funding from international institutions like the World Bank and the Asian Development Bank (ADB) because of Indian objections that it was in disputed territory.

The government has broken ground on the project five times in the past 15 years. Mr. Hussain said that the government now has a five-year funding plan for the project that would be completed in 2026.

Chinese analysts suggest that the Pakistani and Nepalese withdrawals could set a precedent.

“It will not be a big surprise if similar problems happen in China’s future overseas projects. And that would not change the big picture. There is a common misinterpretation internationally that the Belt and Road is something China would want to push forwards at all cost.

But in fact, all projects are commercial so they have to be justifiable economically, and agreed mutually,” said Zhao Gancheng, a South Asia expert at the Shanghai Institute for International Studies.

China is likely to encounter greater resistance not only on its financial terms, but also regarding assessments of what economic benefit investment target countries can expect.

Pakistan’s marble industry

A State Bank of Pakistan study concluded that exports of marble to China, Pakistan’s foremost rough-hewn, freshly-excavated marble export market, and the re-export to Pakistan of Pakistani semi-processed marble was “hurting Pakistan’s marble industry to a significant extent.”

Pakistani marble exporter and retailer Shakil Khan told Asia Times that “the Chinese buyers go for the square slabs, while the local quarrymen tend to excavate oval-shaped blocks which reduce to smaller bits” and are only of interest to the local Pakistani handicrafts and tile market. The Chinese approach discriminates against mines with cracked marble.

“The Chinese pick only the rare and quality stuff like onyx, black gold marble and high-quality granite from the market. Local processing units don’t have the high-tech processing equipment here to treat these costly marble products,” added Zahid Shinwari, president of the Sarhad Chamber of Commerce & Industry (SCCI), in Peshawar.

Economic domination

The Pakistani marble industry’s experience strokes with the overall suggestion of the leaked long-term plan for CPEC that projects risks of economic domination, the creation of a surveillance state and would allow China to shape Pakistan’s media landscape.

It projected an approach that has already sparked popular resistance and setbacks in countries and regions such as Sri Lanka, Myanmar, and Balochistan.

The plan envisioned Chinese state-owned companies leasing thousands of hectares of Pakistani agricultural land to set up “demonstration projects” in areas ranging from seed varieties to irrigation technology.

The Chinese companies would be offered “free capital and loans” from various Chinese ministries as well as the China Development Bank.

Effectively turning Pakistan into a raw materials supplier rather than an added-value producer, a prerequisite for a sustainable textiles industry, the plan sees the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps in China’s troubled north-western province of Xinjiang, as the vehicle for the introduction of mechanization as well as new technologies in Pakistani livestock breeding, development of hybrid varieties, and precision irrigation.

Added value would be produced in Xinjiang as part of China’s bid to quell ethnic unrest among the Uighur population.

Pakistani textiles for Xinjiang

The plan envisaged the Pakistani textile sector as a supplier of materials such as yarn and coarse cloth to textile manufacturers in Xinjiang.

“China can make the most of the Pakistani market in cheap raw materials to develop the textiles & garments industry and help soak up surplus labour forces in (Xinjiang’s) Kashgar,” the plan said.

Chinese companies would be offered preferential treatment regarding “land, tax, logistics and services” as well as “enterprise income tax, tariff reduction and exemption and sales tax rate” incentives.

Pakistan and Nepal’s withdrawal from the dam projects suggests that for China to secure economic dominance in Eurasia, it will have to ensure that win-win amounts to equitable terms and distribution of benefits among those that need the investment.

“China needs to nurture better understanding of its intentions and visions…to prevent unnecessary suspicions about its geopolitical ambition,” The Jakarta Post said earlier this year in an editorial that acknowledged that “we badly need the huge infrastructure spending that China is bringing.”

US reaction to the Mohammadden Terrorism Fomenting Islamic Republic of Pakistan’s release of UN designated Mohammadden Terrorist Hafiz Muhammad Saeed delivered by US White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders.

While a tad dated, nonetheless being posted for archiving the Mohammadden Terrorism Fomenting ways of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan’s:
The White House
Office of the Press Secretary
For Immediate Release
November 25, 2017

Statement by the Press Secretary on Lashkar-e-Tayyiba (LeT) Leader

The United States strongly condemns the release of Lashkar-e-Tayyiba (LeT) leader Hafiz Saeed from house arrest in Pakistan and calls for his immediate re-arrest and prosecution.

LeT is a designated Foreign Terrorist Organization responsible for the death of hundreds of innocent civilians in terrorist attacks, including a number of American citizens. Saeed himself is a notorious terrorist who stands accused of having masterminded the November 2008 Mumbai attacks that killed 166 people, including six American citizens.

A clear international consensus exists regarding Saeed’s culpability—he was designated by the United Nations under U.N. Security Council Resolution 1267 in December 2008. The Department of the Treasury has designated Saeed as a Specially Designated Global Terrorist, and the United States, since 2012, has offered a $10 million reward for information that brings Saeed to justice.

Saeed’s release, after Pakistan’s failure to prosecute or charge him, sends a deeply troubling message about Pakistan’s commitment to combatting international terrorism and belies Pakistani claims that it will not provide sanctuary for terrorists on its soil. If Pakistan does not take action to lawfully detain Saeed and charge him for his crimes, its inaction will have repercussions for bilateral relations and for Pakistan’s global reputation.

As President Donald J. Trump’s South Asia policy makes clear, the United States seeks a constructive relationship with Pakistan, but expects decisive action against militant and terrorist groups on Pakistani soil that are a threat to the region. The release of Saeed is a step in the wrong direction.

The Pakistani government now has an opportunity to demonstrate its seriousness in confronting all forms of terrorism, without distinction, by arresting and charging Hafiz Saeed for his crimes.

And what if it doesn't? We will just have another data point to show that this country is a state sponsor of terrorism, which is already common knowledge. Just some worthless horsedung from the US govt. and the Trump Administration...but then Indian EAM goes around granting visas to pakis to get treatment in India...so why should the US do anything more than throw around rhetoric in this manner.

Another Scam Discovered At Disgraced Paki National Carrier ! : Nil-fare tickets causing loss of millions to PIA
LAHORE - The PIA top management is unmoved over a scam worth millions of rupees concerning issuance of tickets on nil-fare basis, the documents available with The Nation revealed. The PIA Lahore district manager and ticket sales manager pointed out the scam and wrote to the general manager marketing, DGM pricing and many other senior officers concerned on November 10 this month, but despite repeated emails, the top management remained unmoved. The Chalta hae attitude !
An email sent to the PIA headquarters by the Lahore district manager said, “It is suggested that all efforts be made to guard PIA interest and avoid financial loss at the earliest as passengers have to travel tonight on the nil-fare basis tickets . If PIA claims the amount against Royal Brunei Airline documents, what should PIA do to the tickets issued on such fare by South African travel agent? I have deputed two PIA staffers to meet these passengers at the Lahore airport on departure to probe facts of this transaction.”.The mail further stated, “Almighty Allah knows better since when this practice is being carried out.” Sleeping on the job
Country Manager Siraj A Kazi in his email said, “This is indeed a very serious issue and may spread like a wildfire. The RM team, in collaboration with SABRE, tackled misuse of system through switching UK IPs and channelising booking through SABRE RED from Khariain/Mirpur location very effectively. I believe this matter can also be sorted out with SABRE on priority. It is strange how a non-PK accredited managed to issue tickets . Our representative’s recent visit to the agent’s location found its premises locked and he is not available to receive phone calls as well. London station cannot take any sort of punitive action because the agent does not exist in the list of our agents within London sales territory”. :(( Passing the buck from one to the other
Ticket Sales Manager Baber Zaman from Lahore said in an email, “Reference our below email wherein we had highlighted a suspected fraud for issuance of tickets on nil-fare basis using manual mask. It is to be mentioned here that the fraud was highlighted on Nov 10, 2017, and several PNRs (reservation numbers) were shared with the head office for timely corrective action... Pakistan International Airlines Corporation, the national flag carrier, has suffered huge financial losses due to incompetent and non-professional management. They even do not know what the basic issue of this mega scam is. No one has so far reached any result as to how it happened and what pre-cautionary measures should be taken to avoid such incidents in future, which caused huge financial losses to the airlines. No professional team is available that could dig out the root cause of the recent incident wherein several tickets have been issued without charging any fare
When contacted, spokesman for the national flag carrier said, PIA would never allow any passenger to travel on fake tickets and no incident of issuance of tickets issued on nil-fare basis took place in the PIA .
And what about the times, when Ganja Sharif used to use PIA as his own "personal taxi" - requisitioned from regular routes , and ordered to fly to DC or London so he and his huge entourage could attend a personal function or govt meeting on foreign soil and coming back to Isloo or La-whore loaded with tons and tons of Eid goodies or serious shopping ( on which no custom duties was probably paid !). HAVE THOSE MONIES BEEN RECOVERED OR ACTION TAKEN AGAINST THOSE OFFICIALS WHO ALLOWED THIS BLATANT MISUSE OF GOVT PROPERTY !!!

X Posted from the “26/11/2008: Never Forget. Never Forgive” thread.

Our country’s reaction to the Mohammadden Terrorism Fomenting Islamic Republic of Pakistan’s release of UN designated Mohammadden Terrorist Hafiz Muhammad Saeed delivered by our MEA Spokesperson Raveesh Kumar.
Transcript of Weekly Media Briefing by Official Spokesperson (November 23, 2017)

November 24, 2017 ……………………………..

Question: You reaction to the decision by court in Pakistan to release Hafiz Saeed, that his detention was not extended. The Pakistani Government has said that he still is a threat to Pakistan but did not really provide any evidences including evidences provided by India to the court?

Official Spokesperson, Shri Raveesh Kumar: Any other question on Hafiz Saeed?

Question: Aatankwaadkolekar America ki jo chinta hai wo Haqqani Network aur Lashkar-e-Taiba ke liye bhi hai, aisa hum maan kar chalte they, lekin haal ke dinomein jo ek badlaavaayaa hai aur America Haqqani Network ki gatividhiyon ko lekarjyadachintaamein raha, Lashkar-e-Taiba ki gatividhiyon ko lekarnahi. Kya aapmaante hain ki ye ek wajah ho sakti hai ki Hafiz Saeed aajnazarbandnahi hai?

(We believed that the concerns of terrorism of America are same for both the Haqqani Network and Lashkar-e-Taiba, but recently there has been a change and we have seen America being more concerned with the activities of Haqqani Network and not that much with the activities of Lashkar-e-Taiba. Do you think this could be a possible reason that today Hafiz Saeed is not House Arrested?)

Official Spokesperson, Shri Raveesh Kumar: Any other question on Hafiz Saeed?

Question: On the same issue, recently we saw the US designating North Korea as a state sponsorer of terrorism, from India’s perspective does it thinks that Pakistan deserves or is a fit case to be declared state sponsored terrorism.

Official Spokesperson, Shri Raveesh Kumar: No, it is not a related question. I said any other question on Hafiz Saeed.

Question: Again on similar grounds, the State Department has told us that they have noted the release of global terrorist Hafiz Saeed. US has already given a last warning to the Pakistan, a last opportunity, do you think that perhaps bilaterally to the US it needs to be communicated much more that we need to move ahead of the terror designations and much more needs to be done to let Pakistan know that enough is enough?

Official Spokesperson, Shri Raveesh Kumar: Let me first read out the statement which I have on the release of Hafiz Saeed.

We have seen reports on the release of the leader of banned terrorist organization Lashkar-e-Taiba and internationally proscribed terrorist Hafiz Saeed from House Arrest by Pakistan. As you are aware he was the Prime Organizer, he was not only the Master Mind he was the Prime Organizer of the Mumbai Terror Attacks in which many innocent Indians and many people from other nationalities were killed.

He is also responsible for unleashing numerous other terror attacks against Pakistan’s neighbors. His release confirms once again the lack of seriousness on the part of Pakistani Government in bringing to justice perpetrators of heinous acts of terrorism including by individuals and entities designated by the United Nations.

It also appears to be an attempt by the Pakistani system to mainstream proscribed terrorist. It is evident that Pakistan has not changed its policy of shielding and supporting non-state actors and its true face is visible for all to see. It is the responsibility of Pakistani Government to fulfill its international obligations and take credible and effective action against terrorists like Hafiz Saeed.

India as indeed the entire international community is outraged that a self-confessed and UN proscribed terrorist is being allowed to walk free and continue with his evil agenda.

Now coming to the two questions which are related, we have in our discussions with the US Government at different levels including at the level of the Foreign Minister, at the highest level as well, we have had very productive discussions on fighting the scourge and menace of terrorism.

Further, I do not agree with your assessment that there is a bit of softness by the US side on certain entities. I think we are trying to work together with them, we have worked with them and if you have seen the statements emanating from the US Administration in the past, I think it is very clear that we are on the same page as far as fighting terrorism is concerned.

Our MEA on the matter of Commander Kulbhushan Jadhav (Retd) who was kidnapped from Iran and subject to a Kangaroo Court trial on concocted charges by the Uniformed Jihadi’s of the Punjabi dominated Military of the Mohammadden Terrorism fomenting Islamic Republic of Pakistan:
Transcript of Weekly Media Briefing by Official Spokesperson (November 23, 2017)

November 24, 2017 ………………..

Question: This related to Kulbhushan Jadhav. Pakistan says that there is an invitation for his wife, but has India accepted that, has India said that if wife has to go then mother also should go, where do we exactly stand on it? What other points have we raised vis-à-vis this?

Official Spokesperson, Shri Raveesh Kumar: Any other question on Kulbhushan Jadhav?

Question: Can you spell out the specifics of your proposal to Pakistan, what exactly did you suggest on Jadhav, and there have been some reports that you have also given the go ahead for the wife to visit, my main question is the specifics of the proposal.

Question: A small clarification on the question that besides the proposal, have we in-principle accepted their proposal or we are still waiting for their response and then we will take a final call on that?

Question: If a decision has been made to send Kulbhushan Jadhav’s wife to meet him, has any date been decided and will Indian officials be accompanying her?

Official Spokesperson, Shri Raveesh Kumar: I am very happy that I may have answers to all the questions which you have.

You are aware that there was a long standing request from the mother of Mr. Kulbhushan Jadhav to visit Pakistan and meet her son. Although this request was pending, India still responded positively to the offer made by Pakistan to arrange meeting of Mr. Kulbhushan Jadhav with his wife.

In our response we have conveyed that the wife of Mr. Jadhav would like to travel along with her mother-in-law for the meeting. We have also sought sovereign guarantee from the Government of Pakistan to ensure this safety, security and well-being of the wife and the mother of Mr. Jadhav and during their stay in Pakistan they shall not be questioned, harassed or interrogated while they are there.

We have further asked that a diplomat from our High Commission in Pakistan in Islamabad shall be allowed to accompany them at all times including during the meeting which the wife and the mother will have with Mr. Kulbhushan Jadhav. Let me also underline that such a meeting offer does not absolve Pakistan of the violations of the Vienna Convention on Consular Relations and Human Rights and not following the due process in treating Mr. Jadhav who remains incarcerated in Pakistan and faces death sentence through a farcical process and on concocted charges.

While the Government hopes that Pakistan would facilitate visit by the wife and the mother of Mr. Jadhav, we are determined to pursue all measures with full vigor so as to secure the final release of an innocent Indian who is jailed in Pakistan.

Pakistan Yet To Officially Guarantee Kulbhushan Jadhav's Wife's Safety: VK Singh :-
Nagpur: Pakistan is yet to give a sovereign guarantee about the safety and security of Indian prisoner on death row Kulbhushan Jadhav's wife if she visits that country to meet her husband, Minister of State for External Affairs VK Singh said today. .................

Responding to Pakistan's offer of arranging a meeting between the former naval officer and his wife, India also requested that his mother be allowed to meet him too.

A military court in Pakistan had in April this year sentenced Mr Jadhav, a former navy man, to death on the charge of his alleged involvement in espionage and terror attacks. India strongly denied the allegation.

The International Court of Justice has stayed Mr Jadhav's execution. ......................

Mr Singh said India wanted its citizens going abroad to believe that their government will help them in the event of any trouble.

Police tell Supreme Court what went wrong with Faizabad operation - DAWN
. . . . a nine-page report submitted to the apex court on behalf of Inspector General of Islamabad Police Khalid Khattak, adding that the religious sentiments of the men deployed for the operation were also provoked by the protesters through their speeches, thus making them a hurdle in effective utilisation of men.
The protesters were also armed with teargas and used it upon police force, the report said. :D

Mush- The So-Called Moderate/Hypocrite Comes Out Of The Islamic Closet :D

Musharraf calls himself 'greatest supporter of LeT'
Former president Pervez Musharraf on Tuesday declared that he is the greatest supporter of proscribed militant group Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT).
The declaration of support for LeT, Jamaatud Dawa and its chief Hafiz Saeed, who was recently released from house arrest, was made during a discussion pertaining to Musharraf's recently announced 23-party 'grand alliance' on ARY News programme 11th Hour. He is two faced like Imran Khan. One message for the domestic Abduls. Sophisticated explanations for the phoren audience . !
During the talk show, the host pointed out that it will be "an interesting visual" to see Musharraf ─ "enlightened moderation, liberal outlook" ─ sitting next to leaders of parties such as Majlis-i-Wahdatul Muslimeen, Sunni Itehad Council and Pakistan Sunni Tehreek ─ "parties with religious colours." Joh Islamabad mae gandhu, woh Dubai mae bhi..... :D
"You are describing me as a liberal [...] Yes, I am. These are my thoughts," the former president said. "That does not mean I am against all religious parties."
"I am the greatest supporter of LeT and I know they [LeT and JuD] are fond of me," he said. When asked if he "liked" JuD chief Hafiz Seed, the former president said that he does and that he has met with him."Because I have always been in favour of action in Kashmir and I have always been in favour of pressuring the Indian army in Kashmir. This is the biggest force and they have been declared terrorists by India and the US jointly," Musharraf said, explaining his stance. The former president went on to deny that LeT was involved in the 2008 terrorist attacks in Mumbai ─ an allegation leveled by India and supported by Washington. He also denied that Daniel Pearl was killed in Pakistan by his agent, Omar Saeed Sheikh. ! So, he has a history of "serial lying"
During the interview, the former president said that Washington's statement following Saeed's release last week was an "insult to Pakistan's sovereignty."Following his release, the US had asked Pakistan to re-arrest Saeed, who has been designated a terrorist by the US Justice Department. “The Pakistani government should make sure that he is arrested and charged for his crimes,” the State Department said in its statement.Washington had said that the JuD chief's release sends a "deeply troubling message about Pakistan's commitment to combating international terrorism." Washington had gone on to warn that if Saeed is not charged for his crimes, "Pakistan's inaction will have repercussions for bilateral relations and Pakistan's global reputation." Pakistan knows that US is dependent on her for supplying food, arms, etc etc to its forces in Afghanistan through transit from Pakistan. Unless an alternative economic way is found, Pakistan will continue to blackmail Massa. !
"This language is offensive and insults Pakistan's sovereignty... I would never accept this," Musharraf said. "Please do not dictate to us; we have to decide on who is the head of [and] whether he has to be tried or punished," the former president added. When will he be denied entry to US :D
The former president went on to say that democracy in Pakistan is not under threat but requires "tailoring" in keeping with the country's requirements."We need [to make] amendments to the system, political restructuring, electoral reforms and checks balances.""We need to tailor democracy and the parliamentary system to Pakistan's requirements and in this the most important matter is the army [...] the army plays a role," Musharraf said."The army needs to be included in the checks and balances." With Ganja and his PML, helpless and Dus Percenti and his party out of favour, Mush, the loud mouth can afford to "spread his political wings" and do little publicity gigs, for which he is "very famous"

Sadiq Khan, The "Laard" Mayor Of Londonistan

London Mayor unveils Quaid's bust at British Museum
LONDON: The Bust of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah was unveiled at the historic British Museum as part of the grand finale of the year-long celebrations in Britain to mark the 70th Independence Anniversary of Pakistan. Rich tributes were paid to the Founding Father of the Nation on the occasion. The event was attended by prominent Pakistanis and members of the British government.Mayor of London Sadiq Khan was the chief guest at the ceremony. He, together with Syed Ibne Abbas, the High Commissioner, unveiled the Bust at the China & South Asia Gallery of the British Museum.
The Bust is being permanently installed at the Quaid’s alma mater, the prestigious Lincoln’s Inn on 29 November 2017. = = with Gandhi-ji
The Mayor of London said that he was proud to be part of this event to honour the great Muhammad Ali Jinnah, particularly as someone of Pakistani heritage. “Muhammad Ali Jinnah is a pivotal figure in history but is also still an inspiration to us today - not just to Pakistanis, but to millions around the world. As a champion of democracy, women’s rights and religious freedom, Muhammad Ali Jinnah will always be someone who millions admire. I look forward to visiting Karachi, the city where he was born, during my first official visit as Mayor of London to Pakistan.
Why is it taking that long for him to visit Pakiland, on UK taxpayers' expense . He will be feted and fed with nihari, biryani and other local favourites etc etc
“My ambition is to strengthen the ties between London and Pakistan, to share the message that London is open and to encourage more Pakistanis to follow in Muhammad Ali Jinnah’s footsteps by visiting, studying and working in our great city.” ( Pakistan has already "claimed" "Sadiq as one of its own", like Dilip Kumar, Raj Kapoor :D )
He said that he was celebrating the life of Muhammad Ali Jinnah, founder of Pakistan, ahead of my upcoming trade mission to Pakistan. Is he also bringing his wife and children to Pakistan, if so, he should be given a primer on Islamic attire , otherwise ....
The internationally acclaimed British sculptor, Philip Jackson sculpted the Bust. Sharing his experience of making the Bust, Mr Jackson said: “To get to the essence of the Man, Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, I studied all the still photographs I could get hold of, viewed all the available films, read the words of those that had written about him and spoke to those whose lives he has changed, all to aid the build up in my mind a composite picture of the extraordinary man I was to portray.“Undertaking a sculptural portrait, is like writing a book. You have to do all your research before you can start. You have to get to know subject, get under his skin, see what makes him tick. Then you can start.”At the end, British Pakistani Sufi opera singer, Saira Peter presented national songs and cheered up the ceremony. From this write-up, it appears- IMO- to be a 100% Paki affair, with Britishers (Missing In Action) (MIA)

Happy to see one of the mandatory representatives from the Napak army is sporting the 'right' kind of facial attire..

One of the many gems in the article quoted by Falijee

Prime Minister Abbasi said, “We have a vibrant democracy, we have freedom of expression and we have free media while the institutions of the state have delivered for the people of Pakistan.”

“We may have difference of opinion, we may have dharnas (sit-ins) and we may have differences, but the institutions of state have stood together to defeat terrorism and reject extremism,” he maintained.

Riiight.. Mullahs armed with tear gas shells, torture tents are holding govt hostage.. A sitting high-court judge openly declares that he might get goatnapped.. and this guys gets all lippy about how awesome their democracy is.. only in Pakland.. no where else..

We are not safe. We are certainly not a haven.

Pakistan rejects US accusations about safe havens
Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi has brushed aside US accusations that Pakistan provides sanctuary to militant groups
When asked if Pakistan would move against Taliban leaders who have allegedly lived for years in Quetta, Abbasi said, “we will act against them if they really exist.”
When his attention was drawn to the court-ordered release of Hafiz Saeed, Abbasi said, “The court, a three-judge bench, has released him saying there are no charges against him, the country has a law you know.:rotfl:
Yes. The country has laws. It was proven only a few days ago.

Pakistan seeks $70 million from India for unplayed cricket series
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is seeking $70 million in compensation from the Board of Control for Cricket in India after the country failed to attend two series in 2014 and 2015 as part of a memorandum of understanding signed between the two boards.
At least the pakis admit that it was just an MOU. If wishes were horses....

The world does not owe Pakistan positive press coverage.

Pakistan owes itself the stories that will produce positive coverage.

Stop blaming the outside world for the garbage we produce here at home.

The Farce Of "Paki Democracy" As Per One PPP "Senator"

All responsible as parliament passed electoral bill: Aitzaz
KARACHI: Leader of the Opposition in the Senate Aitzaz Ahsan has said the PML-N has nearly lost its authority in the Centre, while its Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi has no individual standing in the party. Toothless PM. Toothless Prez. Powerful COAS . This is the face of "Paki Democracy"
Speaking in the Geo News programme Capital Talk on Wednesday, he referred to the Faizabad sit-in and said the government should have brought the issue to parliament. Decisions regarding dispersing protesters were not taken at the PM House or Jati Umra. The decisions were rather taken at the GHQ, he said and alleged that after talks were held, an army officer was seen distributing envelopes among the protesters — a scene which could not have been imagined in Pakistan. Back to Mullah- Military Alliance !
Aitzaz said Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif claimed to have resolved the issue, though his province was where the issue originated from. He said the protesters came to the federal capital after holding talks with the Punjab government. He said the PPP was clear on the issue throughout the sit-in. "We were of the view that the entire matter should be discussed in parliament." The Mullah Parties are not represented adequately in "parliament" . They prefer direct ( street) politics
He said the operation to disperse the protesters at Faizabad was launched without the ownership of the political leadership. The executive was not given time to execute its responsibilities. However, he was of the view that certain political and religious parties politicised the issue regarding the law, which led to the Faizabad protest.
The senator said the sit-in leadership was claiming that the army chief resolved the issue. He said Nawaz Sharif was totally ignorant and was just questioning the interior minister. He said Ahsan Iqbal could have signed an agreement with the Tehreek Labbaik leadership on the directions of Nawaz Sharif. He said Shahid Khaqan Abbasi had no powers in the PML-N setup as he still considered Nawaz the prime minister. He said Captain (retd) Safdar had alleged that the envelopes given to the protesters contained Rs 5,000 each. The "dirty politics" of Pakiland !
He said Ishaq Dar’s name was not put on the ECL and he went out of the country. If the Hudaibiya case was opened, nobody would be spared, and an affidavit by Ishaq Dar would be enough in this context, he said and added that the Sharifs would not let Dar return to the country. If he returned, there would be threats to his life, Aitzaz concluded.

Pakjabi Police Afsar Practices "Pakistaniyat" .

Cop ‘tricks’ court by presenting liquor bottles filled with coloured water
SAHIWAL – A Punjab Police officer faces action after he was caught deceiving a court by presenting bottles filled with coloured water instead of liquor on Thursday.
Shaukat Ali, a sub-inspector at Chichawatni City Police Station, appeared before Magistrate Rashid Shabir to obtain remand of a man accused of bootlegging 25 litres alcohol. The court ordered the police to also submit the seized bottles of liquor, for which Ali asked one-hour time.Interestingly, the bottles he presented before the court contained coloured water and no alcohol, inviting the magistrate’s wrath who not only ordered the district police officer, Sahiwal, to dismiss the cop but also launch a departmental inquiry. ( If he could have made a "side deal" with the magistrate, this incident would not have made the news  )
The accused bootlegger walked free due to insufficient evidence. Swaggering in Sahiwal like a hero- proud to be "scot free" !
“An inquiry has been initiated and the sub-inspector dismissed,” DPO Dr Atif Ikram confirmed to Daily Pakistan, adding that he will be awarded due punishment if proven guilty. The sub-inspector, Shaukat Ali maintains his innocence, saying the bottles were mixed up in haste. So, it boils down to a case of his word against DPO's word !
In all major cities of Pakistan, there are hundreds of “dens of drugs including liquor”, which are allegedly patronised by police officers. ( no kidding !). Alcoholism is a growing problem in Pakistan despite it being illegal for the Muslim majority to drink. Have they not opened any Paki chapter of AA - Alcoholic Anonymous- to nip the anti-Islamic habit in the bud
The Islamic Republic was officially declared “dry” in 1977. Z. Bhutto, the megalomaniac PPP PM , a chronic drinker himself , brought this law to placate the Islam lobby, and save his political skin - but it did not work ! DJinnah, Ayub, Mush, ( but not Zia !) were so called "social drinkers" in the Islamic Republic. :D [/quote]
Pakistan even has its own breweries which officially ( key word here. Unofficially anything goes !) produce only for non-Muslims – or for export.
