INS VINDHAYAGIRI F 42-OFF THE COAST OF JAMNAGAR
------------------------------------------------------------
Lt commander sudesh raina looked at the set of three pedestal bearings supporting the long propeller shaft along almost half the lenght of the ship from the speed reducing gear box to the slow speed high torque propeller .Some thing obviously very wrong. The outer housing temperature have crept up slowly from 50 to 78 degree celcius over the last few hours even after he has used his engineer in charge authority to reduce speed down to 14 knots but he knew this was a risky move with a war raging all around. The bearing lube oil pressure was also going up and at the moment hovered around 8.5 bar very close to maximum before the lube oil pump can pack up and then the metal will grind against metal and the the shaft will overheat sharply, deform within the close constraints of the housing and then break free causing indeterminate level of damage to the gearbox and the props even the unaffected one and then there will be no other option but to call in for tow and escorts.

Alternatively he could call in the bridge ,ask for and hopefully get the permission to stop the steam turbine disengae the gear box ,remove the complete set of possible damaged bearings ,fit in the replacements and then start turbine speed up once again as per the mannual.

Once again he checked the bearing surface temperature with his non contact infre red thermometer and did not like what he saw the temperature was precisely 79.5 deg c and the lube oil pump discharge pressure indicated was 8.6 bar and rising -it was decision time for lt commander raina

As he reluctantly picked up the bridge phone he took a decision which will haunt him for the rest of his life ,though at the moment no one could positively confirm the nature of the outcome.

-sir ,engine room -request permission for engine shut down-all three bearings running hot -possible lube oil failure due to foreign material ingestion in lube circuit
The captains voice dripped with irritation as he curtly asked
- do we have any option
- no sir we do not at the moment
-o.k then -go ahead -how long do you need
-six hours maximum sir, shall need some extra hands from the deck sir for the period
-xo launch the hello -depute all available hands to engine room for bearing change -drop anchor -inform Mumbai for additional escorts for the next six hours

the sea king engine started off with usual screech and whine and soon settled down to familiar thump thump as the rotor pitch changed and the heavy chopper lifted into air and angled down to gain air speed and then quickly dissappeared over the western horizon -the presumed threat axis as far as the captain was concerned .

He would have been right under normal circumstances but not today.Everything that could go wrong usually goes wrong according to professor Mrurphy and that the is what the Indian navy ship was about to find out the hard way.

DECCAN STRIKE FLIGHT 6XSU-30MKI -KAHUTA AIR DEFENSE ZONE
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Wing commander dua could not believe his eyes and luch as all the pakistani falcons trying to intercept his flight suddenly de accelerated and then lowered their undercarriages before switching on the powerful landing lights .

It was too good to be true a falcon slowing down with lights on as he looked back to see his weapon system officer already doing the need ful on the attack console .

The fire control computer did the rest .It selected the targets slowest and nearest and launched the first of the r-73s .Even before the missile had found its mark the second r-73 was fired and then a r-77 at a distant target and finally one r-73 and one r-77 at a target which have switched off the landing lights and trying to turn into the loose flanker formation .

The fire balls appered in sequence exactly 15 seconds apart .You donot slow down and mark your position before a an attacking flanker equipped with arguably worlds best close range air to air missile and then leave to tell the tale .

In less than a minute the insistance of the western air command chief to include a flanker escort to the vital b-2 strike mission was justified ,

The wiondow was open for the stealth bomber to make decisive crippling strike on pakistans premier nuclear complex opened up and the spirit of texas did not allow the chance go waste . As the satellite guided bombs rained downon the khan research laboratories taking it out one piece at a time .The first of the 2000 kg bomb pirced thru the roof of high tension switch yard and plunged into massed bank of isolators and switch gear before explodding with devastating force ,pluncng the whole area into darkness .Even before the back up generators the could be switched on the second bomb landed on the ultra centrifuge cascade thru the pre steressed 2 mtr thick concrete roof and killed every one .The high speed centrifuges in fact killed themselves as one disbalanced cascade crashed into the adjoining one and then onto next one initiating a chain reaction of total destruction filling the closed space with uranium hexafluride gas yet to be enriched .The third fourth and fifth found less exotic targets like the administartive buildings, the high precision cast uranium machining facilityand the uranium oxide storage depot .

But the best hit was reserved for the seventh and eighth bomb which arced thru the night air and salmmed into a low roofed building on the north west corner of the research laboratoty which housed five levels below ground the super polished spheres of uranium and plutonium or more specifically the fissile core of nodongs warheads. The twin 2000 kg explossion penetrated thru the layers of concrete and then exploded at the base of the vault almost simultaneously bringing down the whole building down ,sealing it under thousands of tons of rubble almost forever

The nuclear ambition of pakistan was literally burried almost forever.

Hello Readers

You guys are having a great fun at this brilliant scenario building by Shankar.

I am renewing my request to edit all of Shankar's work into a book format.

It has the BR management support:

ramana wrote:Those who are volunteering lets take this off-line. Hari I expect you to provide oversight.
Thanks, ramana

Previous attempts had failed. Although some readers enthusiastically welcomed the opportunity but were unable to spend time (too busy).

What I need is that some reader with technical skills to convert all of Shankar's writings in the BR into a "Word Format". Then I will be able to spell check, edit and connect all the scenarios together. For me it is a massive job. But I do not mind. I am a retired old man (some of you probably know me from my writings elsewhere).

If serious volunteers appear this time, please do contact me.

There is a pdf version available of some of the scenarios from "Junker". If that is any help I shall post it.

I prefer that we start from the very begining of "Shankar's scenarios. At the moment, the method is to have only Shankar's scenarios. Later we may add other people's scenarios.

Thanks

SPIRIT OF TEXAS - 150 KMS EAST OF KAHUTA AIR DEFENSE ZONE
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Colonel elizabeth heaved a sigh of relief as she finished the slow bank out of heavily air defended zone .The sudden switching on the landing lights by the pakistani falcons caught her totally off guard and for a few seconds her super high tech aircraft was mesurably vulnerable till that unnamed indian flanker pilot managed to take them out in one quick and precise missile salvo and quickly allowed her to complete the first phase of the strike mission without getting into harms way.She made a mental note to thank the unnamed pilot personally if ever she got to meet him which was unlikely .Atleast she could mention him in her de brief saying exactly how he saved her in the nick of time
The soft voice of her weapon system officer broke the spell and colonel elizabeth was all business once again as years of combat flight training took over not allowing her to think about the consequence of her action a few minutes earlier and in the next few minutes ,about the destruction and death on ground or about the lives she might have avd by crippling the pakistani nuclear capability

One last look at the flat panel display as engaged the auto pilot for course preset for missile launch . By her side the quite weapon system officer armed up the secondary weapon bay internal rotary missile launcher and flicked on the the powerful APQ 181 ground attack radar for precisely 15 seconds and then quickly killed it.The target data was updated automatically and the weapons bay opened up slowly as the auto pilot adjusted the aircrafts altitude and air speed for optimal cruise missile launch .The weapon ready light blinked on and SHOOT prompt came up on the head up dispaly.Elizabeth di just that as she gently squeezed the fire button on her control stick and one by one the AGM 129B advanced cruise missiles dropped into the slip stream and streaked after the assigned targets as determined and prioritised and assigned by the wso duly guided by the onboard attack computer

Pakistan was incredibly lucky today .THE 16 AGM 129B launched today was not carrying the nuclear payload if it were so they would have between them enough destructive power to make the land of terror a piece of nuclear waste land .It was in fact a warning to pakistani rulers not t use any weapon of mass destruction on allied forces and show them the true military capability of the alliance .

AGM 129 was in fact a further development of earlier generation of air launched cruise missiles AGM 86 usally carried by B-52s.It included a new and upgraded inertial guidance systemlaser based terrain mapping system and a host of stealth features to make interception almost impossible by manned interceptors carrying advanced air to air missiles.

The earlier generation fo cruise missiles like AGM 86 depended essentially on low altitude computer generated randomly variable flight path to escape detection since at that point of time most countries particularly erstwhile soviet union depended on ground base radar network and surface to air missiles for air defense of sensitive regions with some supprt from from air defense aircraft.Things changed in mid 80s as more and more awacs strted getting deployed along with data linked interceptors with advanced air to air mssiles like mig 31.

So was born the next generation of stealth cruise missiles like AGM 129 a and B .The same physics principles used in development of stealth aircrafts were used for the design of new generation of cruise missiles. This included blended wing design, masking fo air intakes ,exhaust diffuser to cover the engine thermal signature and finally the laser based terrain contour matching system or LIDAR to replace earlier radio wave based system eliminating atleast one source of emmission for ever. This in its turn allowed the missiles to fly higher and nape of the earth flying for the cruise missiles was no longer a perquisite to stealthy flying allowing use of
more powerful and efficient F-112 WR 100 turbo fan engine incraesing the range by almsot 100%.

-time to target 35 seconds for the first misile ,the weapon system officer quitely mumbled on the intercom as colonel elizabeth checked the weapon bay doors have closed properly and all the amber lights on weapon system display console are green. She next checked though not exactly required all the armed missiles have actually left the weapon bay and only then keyed in the new command on the navigation console and punched ENTER .

The B-2 responded immediately as she decided the best exit route and altitude and the auto throttle moved in conjunction selecting 83% full military power setting for the safest exit

UNDERGROUND AIR DEFENSE CONTROL CENTRE -KAHUTA
------------------------------------------------------------------

Commodore latif mirza watched dazed at the close circuit tv cameras the broad swath of destruction the b-2 has wrecked on his complex and was thinking what kind of report he should make out when the president comes calling in a matter of hours. As the all clear siren sounded the air craft on cap started returning to thier individual bases one by one ,low on fuel on the air bases that ring the kahuat nuclear weapon complex . refuelling started immediately and the next wave of mirages and falcons took off to throw back the air defense umbrella over kahuta .

The timing of colonel Elizabeth was perfect .The of the AGM 129S with cluster warhead landed in midst of the parked aircraft being refyuelled in a hurry. 6 mirages went up in a single large ball of flame along with apair of c-130s parked nearby still to unload their load of sidewinder missiles and shells for the falcons guns .The second cruise missile hit the communication tower base toppling it over and also destroying the optical fibre node feeding it.The third missile flew into the underground control centre and blew it outwards like a rotten sardine can.the nearby airbase jet uel tank farm went next coloring the night sky with a Halloween glow.

Thats really kind of you. I wish I could do something, but my studies don't allow me with enough spare time.
If I can suggest, may be we (basically you) can form a core group member who would work on this project and due incentive would be given to them if any profit comes out of the project (and profit would definitely come out). The incentive might motivate people to do this things sincerely.

Once book is out I would glad to do publicity through my sources and that is without any incentive :).

I have already started work on the same, to start off i have converted the PDF files to Doc format (Word). I have corrected a few spelling errors. Work is going on smoothly and i am targetting Feb 15- 25th to be the deadline for the series. I will surely like to work with everybody helping, so would appreciate if you can mail me instead of hijacking this thread. The total Data i have is 550 pages, suppose there are 25 ppl who volunteer to finish off section by section, we can get this done even quicker than the deadline i have set myself.

PNS HASMAT SOME WHERE OFF THE COAST OF JAMNAGAR-GULF OF KUTCH
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Captain ali watched the sonar display with interest. The coastal belt of jamnagar was perhaps one of the best places inthe world for a safe submarine hideout in times of war as long as the captain had enough navigation skill and confidence to sail his ship thru the numerous shalow channels and mangrove swamps that cris cross the jamnagar marine national park.So far it has served him and his ship well and now was the time to say good bye and look for some easy huntings .He was still allowing only passive sonar search as he cleared the shallows and headed for the open seas trying to intercept the commercial waterways .Everything here was custom built by nature for a sucessful sub strike from wide variation of water salinity to irregular rock formations on sea bed to the shallow channels of varying depth it was a submariners night mare and also paradise depending on how good you are.Captain ali knew he was good.

Indias first maritime sanctuary and national park was set up in the gulf of kutch loacted in the west coast of india is in fact an extension of the arabian sea seperating the suarastran peninsula from the great and little rann of kutch.the sea ward end is almnost 58 kms wide from which point it tapers gradually eastwards extending for nearly 170 kms with maximum navigable depth of 60 mtr and average depth of 20 meters nominal. The marine sanctuary and park is located in the southern shore of gulf of kutch and covers an area of 270 sq km from okha to jodhya. The core area was subsequently notified as marine park comprising area of 7000 ha off pkha in west and 4000ha off jamnagar to the east.Later on the protected area of the sanctuary was enlarged to 458 sq km and that of the park to168 sq km.The landscape of the shallow waters in the park is dominated by complex coral ref eco system and extensive mangroove formation.Apart from rich collection of corals of different shapes and sizes six diffrent species of mangrooves are also found oin the area. The slushy muddy mangroove marshes provide a living paradise for the marine creatures in the region which flourish along with marine flora and colourful living corals. The mangroove support large breeding colonies of spoon bills, painted storks, herons, egrets, ibises, darters flamingoes, avocets, ducks, terns, gulls and little cormorants.Besides mangrooves the major flora includes sea grass and sea weeds.Saag ,sesam, kheru, limda and the major fauna in the region are coral sponge, green sponge, puffer fish, turtles, dolphins ,crabs, prawns, sea anemones, jelly fish, star fish and octopuss.Sea grass offers an ideal habitat for the thriving population of these diverse sea creatures and also act as a buffer between the mangrooves and the corals.Unique marine mammal like dugong and sea horse depend on the sea grass for survival.Migratory sea turtles coming from as far as brazil also depend on the sea grass like green turtles, oliver riddley turtles and leather back turtleswhich come and breed on the shores of saurastra .

Captain Ali was a well read officer .He was also aware that there are 30-40 small islands on the jamnagar coast in the marine national park all surrounded by coral reefs. If a submarine can some manage to take shelter around one of the islands after a strike it will be safe for some time till an escape strategy can be worked out.The best known of these islands is pirotan six sq km loacted 16 km north of bedi port and pirotan is prefered by few tourists who manage to reach this remote outpost for sightings of dolphins, octopuss and various colourful birds. This time of the year it was almos empty.

Captain ali knew after he has made a sucessful strike ,he would be needing a secure shelter to ride out the inevitable sub hunt that will be under way .On his own he will have no chance of making a safe gateway but if some how he can manage to hide out in the marine national park then maybe escape will not be difficult after a few days

INS VINDHAYGIRI – 3 HRS INTO DEAD STOP OFF JAMNAGAR COAST

Lt commander sudesh raina finally managed to get the white metal sleeve of the pedestal bearing supporting the no2 shaft .This was the second of the series and one more to go.As he handed over the badly worn sleeve the reason for damage was obvious .A small piece of cotton waste as used by technicians during maintanance have some how managed to find its way into the lube oil pump and then onto the tiny oil holes in the bearing plugging it almost completely. The loss of lubricating film was the primary cause of shaft and bearing overheat which has resulted in today’s unintended shut down in midst of a war raging all around .

The story of Nilgiri (Leander ) class induction into Indian navy was in fact the story of India navy’s grit and determination to get for itself the best possible floating weapon system with minimum expenditure. It was also the story of evolution of design philosophy and project management in face of apparently insurmountable obstacles . The first of the series Nilgiri s keel was laid on 1966 october and was launched 2 yrs later
but almost 3 yrs and 8 months was taken to finally commission the ship into Indian navy. Initially order for just one frigate was placed and because of bad hard currency reserves the order for second and third was considerable delayed Himgiri and Udaygiri. The production schedule was much streamlined by now and Himgiri was commissioned November 74 and Udaygiri joined the navy February 1976.Construction of the fourth frigate of this class Dunagiri took only 14 months as compared to almost 25 months for the earlier one and after weapons integration, sea trials etc Dunagiri joined the fleet in may 1977.It had sizable Indian components from main boilers, main turbines, main gear box, main circulators, turbines for alternators, diesel alternators, stern tube bushes, heat exchangers, radar and fire control equipment, air conditioning and refrigeration, communication equipment, to the fire detectors and alarm system it was Indian all the way.
The anti submarine capability was further improved in the fifth and sixth frigates namely Taragiri and Vindhyagiri based on operating experience with earlier ships of the class. which included inclusion of bofors sr 375 twin rocket launchers with integral magazine and hoist, two sided torpedo tube launchers for the A-244 torpedoes,Graseby type 184 solid state sonar equipment, French Thomson-CSF solid state search and attack sonar Diodon ,more advance electronic warfare equipment and asw fire control computer .

The time to launch for all the ships in this class was long by world standards but then Indian navy had its own set of unique problems strting from shortage of dollars to delay in supply of critical machinery ,ensuring vendor quality excessive procedural delays being the main culprit .

But the lessons learnt during construction of nilgiri class of ships did not go waste and proved its value many times over during the construction of the the Godavari class ,soon to follow

The intercom beeped sharply –it was the captain from the bridge .He simply asked how long will it take to get the power back as a weather front was moving in from south west and expected to hit the saurastra coast in 6 hrs time .What he did not say was the anti sub screen provided by the sea king may have to be with drawn in such a situation and then only then Vinhyagiri will be vulnerable to a hostile strike. The escort he asked for from the fleet command was still 12 hrs off and night was approaching

Hari and Nikhil

We all know that editing shanker's work started some time back and since i volunteered first I was given the responsibility to coordinate it. Even though initially there were some response (Junker India, Kiran Suresh, Nikhil and sathish), when I contacted them after sometime once the work started there was not of much response. Hence I started to work on that. As of now I have completed around 75% of work. I have compiled shanker’s work in word format and had corrected the spell errors. It will take another 10-15 days to finish other 25% work.

My plan of work is :

1. Compile and check the spell errors.
2. Split the work according to scenario’s/plots
3. Check for the technical accuracy, names of the places and the other things
4. To circulate among us, convert all the work in PDF format
5. If want to publish as a book, select a few plots, reorganize them in a more readable format, check for the time line etc

Here the first part is more or less complete. I would certainly need some help for part three and five. At this point what I would suggest is that I will send the finished material to both of you and also I would suggest to Nikhil to stop his work since that will be duplication of what I am doing. From the material which I am sending you can start working on part 2 and 3.

For the book, my plan is with a time line of 15-20 days the war starts and ends with either annihilation or dismemberment of Pakistan. No Africa plots. I am expecting a max of 350-400 pages for book. Anything above that, IMO will be boring. This may need a bit modification of the plots which if we come to that point we will discuss about that. Any ideas and suggestions are welcomed.

Siva

I am glad to hear from you and your renewed interest in this project. I thought, I lost you, because I did not hear from you for two months. Your intrest makes me happy.

Nikhil

I am pleased to know about your interest. Your progress seems very good.

The key question. How do we co-ordinate between you two?

Can both of you spell out how this co-ordination should work. There cannot be two versions of the same thing, hence you two will have to co-ordinate.

Do me a favor.

write to me on hsud@rogers.com with your e-mail address and I will pass you other's addressed and the co-ordination could begin. Then we do not have to use BR posting.

Glad to hear about interest in editing Shankar's work

Cheers

So as not to hijack this thread and to make it easier to collaborate, i have made a webpage with some tools that we could use to make things easier.

http://brscenario.bravehost.com/

There are passwords required for posting etc...to avoid spamming and timewasters taking over the work...
please send an email to nikhilzmail at lycos dot com, with password required as the subject, also include handle that you use at BR.

I suggest Siva can take over the management of the total thing. I mean he is like the project leader now. I also suggest that each person tells us what is the hours per week that he can put in, as that will help with work allocation and deadlines.

PNS HASMAT- NEARING KARACHI-MUMBAI SEA LANE
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Captain Ali ctood alng the main sonar console and checked the so called waterfall display. The sea was unusally noisy today what with bulk of comercial trafic steering away from karchi as the news of outbreak of overt hostilities on pakistani coast hit he worlds media .Mostly they were oil tankers and bulk carriers along with quite a few smuggling dhows and fishing boats .

But Ali was not interested in them he was looking for indian navy ships and large indian flag cerrying commercial vessels .The passive sonar search has yielded nothing so far as hasmat did a text book grid search of the ocean. He had now two options carry a short and quick active search with his powerful bow munted sonar or surface and do a radar cum visual search . The forst option was suicidial as it would alert evry ship and sub to his position and then the outcome of a face to face underwater battle with a kilo or may be a la class or may be both together was not a safe optin according to captain ali.

The decison to do a surface search was only viable option for the captain as he issued the surface order and the agosta 70 banked upwards and compressed air entered the ballast tanks pushing hundreds of tons of sea water out .

- make surfacing angle 5 degree -level at perscope depth- xo conduct quick surface search -prepare to raise esm antena ,the orders were quick and precise as ali's team carried out the orders with practiced ease

The importane pakistani navy gave to its fleet of submarines were always high .Initially they were all based at karachi (3 agosta 70 and 3 agosta 90bs) but later the agosta 90bs named khalid class were shifted to the newly created base at oormara considered safe from a indian navy missile strike. This some what unbalanced imporance of its sub fleet to pakistani navy was in a way gift of indian navy.During 71 war karachi port was bockaded very effective as that time almost 90% of pakistans imports were thru its few ports mainly karachi.Only way for pakistan to challenge indian naval supremacy was using the sea denial route by use of submarines to curtail the free movement of indian naval and commercial shipping .Based in karach and later in ormara pakistani subs had a much higher degree of opearatng freedom than its surface fleet which was always bottled up inside the protection of its harbours as soon as hostilities broke up .

Extending this line of logic pakistani navy also considered mating nuclear warheads on its fleet of exocet missiles but then gave up when technical difficulties were too many ,the french refused to co operate and came out to be too expensive

- Sir we have a warship contact - range 70 miles -type leander class-indian navy possible- course 035 -stationary target
- lower priscope-make depth 100 ft- dive angle 15 degree -set course 040
-make turns for 5 knots ,Ali was in no hurry ,he did not want to spook the frigate and strted thinking why the hell is she standing still may be engine problem but for him it was too good an opertunity to pass by . He also knew it was risky to take on an upgraded leander class head on so close to indian shores but he knew where he is going to hide after strike and also what weapons he will be using to kill the target staying out of its torpedo range all the way.

The agosta started rolling sharply as the sea swells picked up and the speed increase .On the ocean surface the waves became a creamy froth as the weather front from south west moved in closer to shore

INS VINDHYA GIRI - 5 HRS INTO REPAIR
-----------------------------------------------
- Sir we need to recover the helo -wind speed on deck10 knots plus
-ok xo - recall the helo immediately ,ordered the captain and with it one more line of defense of the frigate vanished into stormy winds of arabian sea.

Bangladesh, Assam: the first scenarios are happening

Post by HarshS »

Folks,

If you remember, the first scenarios, which were prepared in 2004 were about instability in Bangladesh and Assam set for 2006.

In 2007, there's instability in Bangladesh, just the ideal setting for an army takeover, backed by Islamic fundamentalists.

Again, the news out of Assam is frightening. One newspaper has already called the killing of seventy Biharis India's Srebrenica. With elections coming, with the ULFA resurgent, with Bangladesh in tatters--it all looks frightfully like the setting for the 2004 scenarios to play out here and now.

Wonder what happens next, and will this be a scary example of life imitating fiction!

Thank you for your responses on assembling all Shankar's scenarios.

It will be worth your effort.

So far Siva, Nikhil and Deepankar have firmly offered and I love you guys for the time and effort you are going to expend on it.

PNS HASMAT- MOVING INTO STRIKE POSITION NEAR KARACHI MUMBAI SEA LANE

Captain ali had a command decision to make for the first time in his life .He could sneak up to the disabled indian frigate and hit with multiple torpedoes. Or he can use his UGM 84 harpoons to strike from a distance .The later was a more expensive option but safer since he will have less distance to cover to the shallows of nearby marine national park before the inevitable Indian sub hunt gets along the way. This will also mean he will be stuck up for atleast some days in Indian territory and risk accidental detection particularly from the very active airbase nearby .If he went for the torpedo option he ran the risk of definite and positive sonar detection from the anti submarine frigate itself and the chances of being pursued by its sea king helo on the high seas will make it very difficult to escape if the weather clears up . Also he was not at all sure of his escape once the full force of Indian navy’s anti sub potential is bought into play including the dreaded Tu 142 and IL 38 s all which had the range to fly down from their home base at dabolim and will be surely over the area in a matter of hours and then escape sea wards would be impossible.

Or he could choose the third option always available to any submarine captain –do nothing and disappear into the depths of vast ocean and be safe. But even that option was not fully open at the moment since the radar sighting of the Indian frigate have been logged and he was sure once back in his home base Karachi he will have to do a lot of explaining –why he did not attack the Indian frigate with a perfectly operating strike submarine when the Indian naval aircrafts along with their us counterparts were in the process of making the strategic port of Gwadar history .

Ali knew for this kind of target Harpoon is the obvious weapon of choice and he had four of them in his inventory .He hesitated just for a few seconds more and then issued the orders
- torpedo room replace torpedoes from tube 2 and 4 –reload Harpon and report
- make depth 35 ft –dive angle five degree
- conn –sonar-range to target 41 miles –bearing 034
- torpedoes removed –tubes 2 and 4 loaded with UGM 84
- depth 35 ft – bearing 035 – ready to launch missile sir
- open outer –launch missiles at 90 seconds interval-bearing 034-wave top attack profile all the way with final pop up type terminal strike
- outer door opened –missiles programmed for wave top profile all the way-final pop up terminal strike –aye sir
- launch missile tube 2 and 4
- tube 2 –missile launched –cleared surface –confirm booster ignition- booster separation confirmed-confirm jet ignition –target aquired
- tube 4 missile launched –cleared surface- booster ignition confirmed-booster separation confirmed -ramjet ignition confirmed –target aquired –on course
The reports started coming in from the missile system officer
- close outer –reload tubes 2 and 4 with torpedoes
- outer door closed –torpedoes loaded in tubes 2 and 4
- make course 140-make your depth 150 ft –dive angle 15 degree–speed 12 knots
- course 140 –making depth 150 ft-dive angle 15 degree
- As the helmsman pushed forward the joystick control forward to maximum permissible dive angle the deck below heeled sharply as the superbly streamlined submarine nosed down towards the dark depths of the ocean and away from the havoc its missiles were about to cause towards safety of Indian shores.

INS VINDHAYAGIRI -41 KMS NORTH EAST –KARACHI MUMBAI SEA LANE-7 HRS INTO REPAIR

The captain was impatient .For the last hour he has been checking every fifteen minutes but still the engine room has not confirmed end of their numerous checks and tests before steam valves to the turbines can be opened .The storm has worsened over the last hous and now measured more than 25 knots at deck level. And then the bad news strted coming in
- captain sir – sonar-we hear possible opening of torpedo outer-course 210-range 42 kms
- can we launch the sea king now
- negative sir
- captain sir –missile launch –range 41 kms-course 210-possible harpoon –have lost the missile track sir
- captain sir –second missile launch –course 215 –loosing have lost the missile track
- battle stations –close all watertight doors –engine room –abort tests-under missile attack – power up the turbine right now
- activate counter measures .

Bundles of aluminized Mylar were rocketed 20 mtrs high in a weak attempt to fool one of worlds best anti ship missile.
-bridge –engine room-turbine speed normal
-engine room –max power turn –course 090 –flank speed
-aye aye sir –making for max turn –steam pressure 550 psi and holding –speed 6 knots

It was then the first harpoon came up from the wave tops and hit the bridge superstructure killing everyone on the bridge instantly when the 250 kg high explosive warhead detonated in close proximity. The second harpoon came in exactly 90 seconds later and hit the engine room 2 ft over the water line in a shower of sparks and exploded inside blowing the heavy gear box off its mounts and rupturing both the high pressure boilers spreading superheated steam and shrapnel within the close confines of the ships innards. Those who survived the initial blast died when the superheated steam and hot furnace oil engulfed them in a matter of minutes.

Thousands of gallons of sea water started pouring in thru the hole punched out by the second harpoon and Vindhaygiri started listing .But she did not go down immediately but go down she did .Almost 2 hrs after being stuck by a pair of harpoons the ocean ultimately claimed her .A few survivors were seen around and was quickly picked up by rescue helos scrambled from Jamnagar air base .Other than that only few spots of burnt oil and an assortment floating debris were the only reminder of one of indias most loved warship.

POLAR BEAR FLIGHT- 4 X TU160 BLACJACK + 6 X SU-30 MKI
------------------------------------------------------------------------
-polar lead-blackeye-report status
-blackeye -polar lead-all in green -request clerance to proceed to hotel airspace
-stand by polar l-maintain course and speed

The russian air battle commander quickly conferred with his indian counterpart about the delay in su-30mki escort still 10 minutes away from ingress point having just taken off from bagram air base delayed by heavy air traffic congestion his . The A-50 mainstay over afghan capital quickly checked the latest escort flight position on its own long range radar and it was time to issue the ingress clearance which was issued in Russian to avoid any misunderstanding by the strike pilots and then the same repeated in English by his Indian counterpart to the sukhoi pilots now having reached the cruise altitude of 45000ft and turning south east to meet up with the tu-160s.

- Polar flight -black eye - make course 137-execute plan foxtrot on my count 5 4 3 2 1 now
- dark eagle lead - change course 156- max speed to grid sector zeta alpha-over
black eye -dark eagle - read you loud and clear -changing course and speed now -over
The four black jacks turned in unison and started climbing till it reached 40000 ft then leveled out and simultaneously went full throttle with full reheat shooting of like four aluminium arrows with quadruple fire tails as it pierced the night sky into pakistani air space heading straight for wah weapons complex the heart of pakistani nuclear weapon assembly complex

The four NK 32 turbo fans whinned and then strted roaring in unison as raw jet fuel sprayed over the hot exhaust gases ,quickly pushing them past the sonic barrier and the newly installed digital speed indicator strted blinking too fast for the eye to follw till after a few minutes it stabilised at 2222 km/hr and the newly installed flat panel head down display showed time targets at 12 minutes .Sergai miloslov always wondered how such a large heavy bomber with a full load of 12 kh 55 air launched cruise missiles can fly so fast . At 40000 ft over mean sea level the outside air temperature was almost -60 deg celcius but inside the cockpit the recirculating hot air taking a minute portion of heat generated in the engine combustion chamber kept the flight deck comfortably warm at 22 degree.

THE tu-160 nato code name black jack happens to be worlds heaviest strategic bomber while similar in looks to ameircan B-1 outperforms it in all fronts .Its performance in low level penetration cannot be matched by any bomber not even the Bone. And at high level high speed ingress like it was doing now ,it can and did touch speed of mach 2 and can sustain that speed for quite some time enough to make a high speed ingress outsmarting the hostile interceptors by sheer speed and then use its terrain following and attack radar in conjunction with forward loking low light tv for positive visual identification and pin point strike accuracy .Not maby were built ,a total of 39 but then that itself was a dreadful force to counter by any air force on the recieving end of tupolovs strategic strike mission.
Like today the 4 blackjacks were carrying between them 48 kh 55 missiles with conventional warheads as per current rules of engaement but that was enough to obliterate the entire wah military indistrial complex a few times over .

The pakistani mirages and few falcos on operation ready platform which took off to intercept the high speed intruders was shocked to see their targets flying faster than thier full after burner speed and the distance to intercept gradually increase as the tu-160s banked once again and lined up for the target run .

 I am just waiting to see how India punishes that sub. And, how our country and PM reacted to such high number of losses of Indian sailors.

Sergai Miloslav scanned the displays after he quickly keyed in the new course and spped paramters .The computer adjusted the banl angle, sweep angle of the variable geometry wings and also adjusted the power settings bringing it out of reheat zone as time to launch missiles showed 335 seonds .

Tu 160 incorporates some of the best of heavy bomber design from blended wing body design to variable geometry wing to give best flight control over wide range of air speed options. The four NK-32 aturbo fan engines are located under mid wing and equipped with variable area intake to meet the variation in combustion air requirement at diffrent speed and altitude and payload combination. The under carriage is also special with one front double wheel leg and two six wheel bogeys of three tandem pairs located between the engine pairs. The two weapon bays are located along the aircrafts centre line betweeen the two landing gear units divided by the wing carry thru structure . The nose carries the Obzor K (meaning survey) suitable for both air and ground search .The Sopoka (meaning hill) radar placed along side is for low altitude terrain following purpose .The retractable refuelling probe is located at the upper central part of the wind screen .Just under the front fuselage is the forward looking OPB 15 optical bombing sight and low light video camera and just behind the optical bombing sight is the nose landing gear.Entry of the crews is thru the front gear bay and each of the four crews is seated on K 36 LM ejection seats supposed to be worlds safest ejection seat proven time and again .The flight deck layout is quite conventional with recently introduced flat panel digital dispalys replacing the analogue displays in earlier units. As customary the front left seat is for the commander and front right for co pilot with the co pilot usally controlling the flap and thrust selection control lever.Just behind the pilot seats the weapon system officer and behind the co pilot the electronic warfare officer who also doubles as communication officer.A small galley and a box toilet is also provided at the end of the flight deck considering the usal very long missions of the black jack.

The variable geometry wing was presently set at 65 degree ideal for high speed high altitude flight once out of danger zone it will sweep forward to 35 degree for normal cruise and most fuel economical mode changing its sweep angle once again to 20 degree before making the final landing approach. The inner portion of the wings form a vertical plane as now ensuring directional stability in high speed flight.During landing the same section fills gap between the wing and fuselage forming the "inner flap"
Tu 160 incorporates Baykal self defense system located in the tail cone of the bomber and includes a Mak infra red missile launch sensor, radar warning reciever radifrequency jammer,APP 50 chaff/flare dispenser and some classified never disclosed systems. The twin brake chutes are housed just under the tail cone .

The attack console beeped sharply drawing attention of sergai to the display .Time to missile launch was 7 seconds and the tupolov slowed down to 850 kms per hours to allow safe launch of the subsonic heavy cruise missiles carrying a mix of thermobaric ,high explossive and cluster warheas all targetted to the massive pakistani industrial complex of Wah .

a slight vibration strted ripled thru the giant aircraft as the weapon bay opened and the rotary internal rotary launchers energised and extended into the slip stream and then strted launching the cruise missiles one at a time at 60 seconds interval pre programmed to hit the wah industrial complex from all bearings in the compass over the next hour and after that every one hoped nothing much would be left to shoot at any way .However as a matter of abundant precaution and intricate strike planning the next wave of tu-22m3 backfires were already on air with thier dedicated sukhoi escorts and was sheduled to ingress pakistani air space exactly 2 hrs from now .

For the pakistani air defense staff and air crews and gunners there will be no respite -they are about topay a terrible price for spawning the world of terror

PAKISTAN ORDNANCE FACTORIES-WAH CANTONMENT-URANIUM CONVERSION FACILITY
The Director of sprawling Pakistan ordnance facilities frowned at the short email from the Presidents office –which instructed him to remove all fissile material stock to Multan cantonment immediately in view of possible air strike any time .
Abdul khan knew this was a job more easily said than done .Shifting hundreds of kgs of enriched uranium castings and machine turnings was not some thing to be done in a hurry. To start with he did not have enough small safe containers for the entire stock. Secondly two of the three remotely operated EOT cranes were down one because of a burnt winch motor and other from burnt out contacts in the motor control panel because of low frequency supply from the grid over the last few days .Then he will have to arrange for adequate security for the long over road transit in a convoy and that meant lot of co ordination with local police and civic authorities .All that took time in Pakistan. This will also entail stoppage of production in all the weapons and ammo factories surrounding uranium conversion facility for safety reasons .However he did not intend to say the president all these details and decided to start the work any way as he picked upthe direct phone to chief of security brigadier Hassan for arranging the transportation and then planned on a detailed meeting with the senior management group on how best to do the impossible .Fortunately the weather was good and that meant more than one trip for the convoy will be possible over next three days .

The Wah cantonment ordnance complex consists of three nearby armament facility namely Pakistan ordnance facility ,karma air weapons complex and Taxila heavy industries .Taxila heavy industries is principally engaged in land weapon systems .Karma air weapon complex however was the principle facility where he air deliverable warheads were manufactured particularly for free fall nuclear bombs as well as missile warheads for Nodong missiles as per general staff requirements .The uranium conversion facility was tasked with converting weapons grade uranium pellets into castings and subsequent high accuracy machining on 3 axis computer numeric controlled machines into fissile core of the bombs and missiles .

Added to above the wah military industrial complex also included the weapons factory, the machine gin factory, the small arms ammunition factory, tank ammunition factory ,medium artillery ammunition factory, heavy artillery factory, brass mill for shell propellant cases, steel foundry for the barrels, tungsten carbide factory for the tool tips, explosives factory ,tungsten alloy factory, propellant factory, propellant filling factory along with several other units formed the core of Pakistan’s war fighting capability in the long run .Pakistan ordnance factory produces almost 70 major products for the army navy and air force and the products include automatic assault rifles, light medium and heavy machine guns, complete range of mortar and heavy artillery ammunition, aircraft and anti aircraft ammunition, tank and anti tank ammunition ,bombs, grenades, land mines in short the entire gamut of conventional expendable stores for Pakistan’s armed forces.

What the director general of POF did not know that morning was ,the warning from the president of Pakistan has come in too late . 48000 kgs of high explosives in

MARINE NATIONAL PARK-GULF OF KUTCHH- JAMNAGAR-MARINE PARK PATROL PARTY

Dr Mina Iyer was an out an out nature lover first and deputy chief conservator of Jamnagar marine park later. After obtaining her post graduate degree from Chennai university she did her PhD thesis on mating behavior of coastal sea snakes which got her international acclaim. She joined the Indian forest service and insisted on being posted to the country’s only marine national park in gulf of Kutchh .She was not good looking in a conventional sort of way and her interest in some what unusual subjects like sea snakes and mangroves usually managed to scare off whatever few men thought of approaching her with more than friendly intent.

To her Gulf of Kutchh was an ecological miracle. A complex coral reef eco system coupled with extensive mangrove dominate the shallow waters of the marine national park .Dr Mina’s job included protection of the mangrove from destruction, preventing oil spills and toxic waste dumping by oil tankers with assistance from the coast guard ,monitoring the population and health of the complete marine eco system and of course typing out a weekly report on everything for the ministry of forest and environment . her biggest worry now a days was a possible unmanageable oil spill from the ultra large crude carriers that come in an unending chain feeding the worlds largest grass roots refinery off the coast of jamnagar.

However when ever she could take some time off –she would take her small zodiac with 25 hp Yamaha outboard out and move thru the swamp of mangrove and the coral reefs of Narara, pirotan, poshitra and Beyt Dwarka. She was fascinated by the vibrant colours, shapes and also their ancient origin . She was always fascinated by the stunning aggressive behavior of an octopus when she stumbled upon it in a shallow creek some time back. The ability of the octopus to change shape and colour before disappearing into the dark green background made for her a lasting memory. She loved the elegant crests of brain coral ,architecture of moon and plate coral with the shoals of multi coloured reef fish swimming in between. She studied the cowries and wentle traps and then studied for weeks how they managed to survive in such predator infested waters. For her wading thru ankle deep water in winter was always an incomparable pleasure ,to see the large sand anemones in various shades of blue green and brown. She had her lunch on the beach accompanied by the deep purple reef herons and dark pink flamingoes .In the distance she would often watch the hunting for fish and octopus. without a care in the world

Today Dr Mina Iyer was preoccupied as she carefully sailed her zodiac at just over 2 knots thru the mangrove swamp and entered one the few comparatively deep water canals which connect the gulf to the Arabian sea to the west . Reports have come in about illegal salt extraction was being done within this area and for that purpose considerable area under mangrove have been destroyed . There were also reports that these illegal salt miners were dumping effluents into the creeks seriously endangering the fragile eco system . Dr Iyer was accompanied by 3 forest guards each carrying a world war one 0.303 Bolt action Lee Enfield rifle

PNS HASMAT -7 KMS T THE WEST OF MARINE PATROL PARTY
Captain Ali heaved a sigh of relief as the 1800 ton agosta safely anchored in one of the deep water canals surrounded by vegetation inside the Indian marine park .The sinking of Indian frigate which by now he knew to be INS Vindhagiri was exhilarating. Now he intended to just lie low for a few days till the Indian navy’hunt for him is called off and then he can quietly slid off along the coast to home base Karachi .His biggest threat at the moment was acciedental detection from air and accordingly immediately ordered a team to cover up the con tower and deck with mangroves . As the team got busy with their work he ordered a small armed shore detachment to be formed and put on 24 hour guard duty .he would need to start the diesel to charge up the batteries before attempting over the night dash to Pakistan under water.

Captain ali knew his only chance of making it back home is to avoid detection. He knew if detected his chances of seeing his friends and family back home is about slightly less than zero.

KH 55 OVER WAH ORDNANCE COMPLEX-PAKISTAN

Once dropped from their supersonic mothers protected belly the baby sized predators took some time to understand their environment . At nearly 40000ft over sea level and vertical speed quickly increasing from 0 to 5000ft/min their micro computer brains realized it is time for some action if they are to fulfill their mothers intended mission. As the vertical speed crossed 3000ft/min the small spring loaded wings were ordered to deploy giving the mini aircraft like cruise missiles some semblance of control from the dead drop situation. As the radio altimeter detected vertical speed of 5000 ft/min and distance from ground at 5000ft it sent a desperate signal to the robotic brain which responded without thinking and sent a tiny pulse of current down the multi core wire igniting the turbo fan engine which till now was nestled in a sliding pylon under the airframe now slid out to operating position just before ignition.

The missiles dipped their collective nose and lost some more height till it was just 500 ft over ground and its in-flight navigation system switched on the terrain comparison and guidance mode along with the inertial Doppler navigation and target guidance system. Several times every second it compared the terrain below with the digitized satellite images which have been transferred to its ultra logical brain and made minor course corrections so that from ground it appeared the missiles have lost all sense of direction and was moving in a totally random flight path ,which was of course not the case.

The KH 55 was designed for exactly this kind of mission –to destroy fixed position targets by flying in an impossible to intercept complex flight profile with small nuclear warhead if required .Once again fortunately today the Russian airforce planners did not feel the need to use a few of its thousands of tactical nuclear warheads stored all over Russian air bases. All the 48 cruise missiles were today loaded up with pre fragmented high explosive warheads essentially to create maximum damage to to pakistans war fighting capability over the next few weeks and of course destroy its capability to make any more nuclear weapons for quite some time to come

The kh 55 propulsion system is quite unique. The dual flow engine just under the missiles tail. The all welded metallic fuselage allows the missile to accept sharp high g turns without problem. The wing is retracted inside the tank compartment during stowage and deploys only after clear of the launch aircraft. The Russian cruise missile programme was in fact proposed much before the American crusie missile programme as epitomized by tomahawk came into being by Raduga but was e ground work being donwnot encouraged or implemented by Russian govt till the American cruise missile programme came into being. Because of the ground work being done before once the official go ahead came Russian cruise missile programme came off ground much faster and many times cheaper. First launched from Tu 95 S bombers later on a B version was added suitable for launching from Tu 160 s .Initially the complexities of this group of cruise missiles ,from foldable wing tail assembly to monolithic fairing of motor made from silicon cloth to complex shape of tank compartment attracted lot of adverse attention from the aerspace industry but then the first kh 55 was launched from a Tu 95s everything changed.

Today ‘s mission was a made to order mission for the 48 off KH 55s as they steered their way around imaginary waypoints in space changing their course and altitude almost constantly at a leisurely speed of less than 800 kms per hour ,they crossed the distance from launch to target in about 30 minutes and then without remorse plunged on with their 500kg high explosive warhead into the heart of Pakistan’s military industrial and uranium conversion facility . Some were shot down by sir defense guns and two by croatle surface to air missiles but still out of 48 37 found their mark –which was more than adequate.

PIROTAN ISLAND –MARINE PARK JAMNAGAR

Dr Mina Iyer sensed rather than saw some thing was out of ordinary as she approached the pirotan island from the east ward side .The usual school of dolphins were missing and so where the noisy birds that abound the paradise like island. She felt the particular revolting smell of high speed diesel and human excreta even before she beached the zodiac quietly and left her escorts near the boat and plodded inland to catch the “poachersâ€

IAF STATION JAMNAGAR – MARINE COMMANDO DETACHMENT SEA EAGLE-HANGER NO 4D-1745HRS
Commander Dipak Sen talked little and talked very quite. It was not his voice or mannerism that grabbed the attention of 100 strong marine commando detachment, but his eyes and absolute stillness of his facial muscles ,the captivated the most well trained commandoes in Indian armed force, flown in from karwar naval base in a hurriedly requisitioned AN 32 of the air force which was being refueled outside for the nights mission .The sunset has not yet begun and the operation DOLPHIN CAPTURE was still a few hours away. Their weapons and zodiacs were still being loaded up in another AN 32 and expected at jamnagar before nightfall .

In the disused hanger ,still smelling of old jet fuel ,the commander started his final mission briefing . His voice or movements did not convey any emotion only his eyes reflected an icy ruthlessness which made even the battle hardened marine commandoes uneasy to the core .Very few knew the doctor on board Vindhaygiri was his wife of 12 years ,a childhood love which ended in a predictable marriage and now a totally unpredictable sudden death

“.Guys we have been ordered by the command to capture the PNS Hasmat intact and ther have been no mention about taking prisoners during the sub capture and I intend to take none .

The agosta 70 have been spotted by a civilian ,actually the deputy chief conservator of marine park and she is still in visual contact with the sub and in contact with command .But the chances of her detection is high since she is using her cell phone to keep in touch and pass on information every hour and immediately if something unusual happens like the cub commander deciding to leave and head for the open seas anytime this night .There is a good possibility she her communications may be intercepted by the state of the art electronic intel gathering capability of the sub and then she will surely not survive long in the small island .We are trying to move her to a more easily accessible and locatable position on the island but so far for the last two hours we have been unable to contact her since she has kept her cell phone in off mode .

Please remember the area of operation namely the pirotan island is the heart of a vey sensitive marine biosphere and use of any kind of high explosives can endanger the marine population for decades particularly the coral reefs .So we should avoid explosives during entry .Since the agosta is equipped with very sensitive acoustic gear all movement in water should not use any mechanical device which will be immediately detected as a threat and the heavily armed sub is likely to use its considerable offensive power to our disadvantage

From the same view point a helo drop near the reported position since it is too risky, and above all it will surely alert the intruders .

We cannot use our submarines or aircrafts to kill the agosta for the simple reason our boss wants it intact and more importantly it will cause irreversible damage to the delicate marine eco system .

So guys this is what we are going to over the next few hours

Team alpha under command of lt commander joshi will get dropped in Bedi port and then proceed by 4 zodiacs to Rozi island which is 10 km south east of pirotan island . The Pakistani submarine is hidden in a mangrove swamp weat of pirotan island in location marked by red circle on the map.

Team beta under command of lt commander do hi altitude low open drop on the island light house on pirotan island 24 mtr high which is equipped with 70 watt metal halide lamp with a flash rate of 20 seconds and equipped with dual channel radio link to jamnagar naval facility. They will approach the target from north and responsible for taking out the perimeter patrol .Use of fire arms is again not recommended in clear words not resorted to unless the basic mission objective is endangered

Team Charlie under my command will swim in underwater from rozi island along the ocean current will be responsible for actual capture operation which may involve use of immobilizing agents thru the air vent fo the sub .I am being told by by experts that aslight overdose of this gas can be fatal and shall take maximum precaution under extreme battle stress that such an overdose does not get into the breathing air supply of the Pakistani submarine .But then people under stress have been known to make avoidable mistakes .

The Pakistani naval personnel have by now used to low flying mig 29s from this airbase every 30 minutes of so ,and I have been promised by air force commander that a sizable distraction will be provided over pirotan island at c hour which is 0330 hrs for 15 minutes –that guys should be enough for all of us to do the need full

And finally please keep a close look out for lady park conservator who is at large somewhere in the island .It will be a shame if we cannot protect her after all that she has done for the navy

In not so distant Arabian sea a cordon of floating steel slowly started forming up –even if the marine commandoes failed in their mission(highly unlikely according to western naval command) . Two scorpenes and a kilo joined the blockade team over the water consisting of one delhi class destroyer and four frigate .Two IL-38s equipped with sea dragon attack suite and magnetic anomaly detector in til cone landed in jamnagar air base in the next hour and took to skies within another hour circling the open ocean just beyond the ecologically delicate marine national park keeping a close watch should the unthinkable happen and the Pakistani agosta decides to make a break during high tide scheduled to come in at 0400 hrs next morning.

PNS HASMAT –PIROTAN ISLAND WEST CREEK-0000HRS

Captain Ali was in fact enjoying the short forced break from last few days of intense pressure. Now closeted in a sheltered shallow creek apparently safe from Indian navy ships which he was sure was hunting him all over Arabian sea he had a few moments to himself and the strangely alive swamp land off the industrial city of jamnagar. He planed on hiding out for just one more day before taking out his ship and crew to safety to Karachi tomorrow night at high tide when it will be far safer to navigate the treacherous shallows and mangrove growth of the region .The quite voice of his first officer broke the silence of the night
-Sir ,I think we have been spotted
-What makes you come o such a conclusion xo
- Sir , our ESM antenna is picking up some emission on regular periodic interval for the last 8 hrs
-which is nothing strange considering we are quite close to the city of jamnagar which has 2 large petro chemical complexes and a big Indian air base nearby
-also sir the Indian aircrafts are using the alternate runway for the last 6 hrs a flight path which takes them right over our present location
-which is also possible considering the main runway might have been out of bounds for some reason but again you may have some valid cause to worry on that point
-and sir the sonar reports quite a few surface ships and a possible kilo type closing in about 90 kms out in the open seas
-what is our battery status
-should be fuly charged in another 2 hrs
-When is the next high tide
-0405 hrs sir
-can we get out in low tide xo
- negative sir ,there is hardly 3 mt rs of water under the keel now and our charts of this area are outdated .If we run aground it will be disgrace for the Pakistani navy and a laughing stock of the world .
-xo get ready to sail 0400 hrs . Load all tubes with torpedo .You will be the sonar supervisor till we clear Indian waters.I will take the con
-roger sir ,the first officer saluted and went down already issuing orders for immediate departure .

IAF STATION JAMNAGAR-0100 HRS

The pair of AN-32s took off without navigation lights in a south westerly direction, climbed to 20000 ft and then started making a slow bank to starboard describing a long arc over the ocean till they were flying parallel to coast once again but in opposite direction . As they flew over Rozi island the rear clam shell door opened and the first group of marcos made their jump from 23000 ft and in total darkness .Landing in water they quickly inflated their zodiac and started rowing towards the objective keeping in the radar shadow of the island .

The second group made their jump over pirotan island light house ,in fact about 10 kms west of the light house and smartly used their expensive ink blue sky divers suite to steer to the light boundary wall .

The last group of marine commandoes dropped last as the two cubs made their way out over the ocean over the deserted bedi port complex .They also quickly inflated their zodiacs and started the silenced Yamaha outboards and set course for rozi island so as to skirt the island and wait for the final assault and act as reserve to whichever group may need additional assistance

ROZI ISLAND -0200 HRS

Commander Dipak sen checked his waterproof Russian watch once again and then his dry suit and battery powered underwater scooter . The special gas canisters that he was carrying on the scooter were quite heavy and without the mini underwater scooter procured from france it would have been very difficult for him to carry it across the ten km underwater creek swim to the target vessel . He checked once again the valves were not leaking by spitting on the open end of the valve and was satisfied no bubble formed and then in the distance his diversion took off

The four mig 29s took of one at time and flew in low with full after burner barely 50 ft over the ground straight at pirotan island and initiated their climb off right over the island .For the next 10 minutes all eyes were on those crazy pilots and their magnificeant flying machines except Commander dipak sen and his marine commandoes as they used the cover un imaginable noise and vibration to glide into the vegetation rich smelly water of the creek and quickly made their way to the Pakistani submarine which unknown to any of them were already getting ready to leave

Capturing a sub intact?.... Have not heard that since 'Krasny Oktyabr'

Triggers some nostalgia definitely.

MARINE COMMANDO GROUP BETA –PIROTAN ISLAND LIGHTHOUSE-0130HRS

The night was dark and very still once the noisy fulcrums have finished their diversionary antics ,giving the group a safe landing to the drop point as the Pakistani sailors on guard duty were more interested rather scared at the mighty mig 29s flying low level in mock attack on the island and then quickly disappearing into the dark moonless sky.

Lt commander Doshi checked out the drop zone and liked what he saw. Out of his group of 25 two have suffered minor injuries one a broken ankle as he landed on top of an ancient brick heap and the other a few fractured ribs and was obviously in pain .Doshi decided to leave the two along with another in the light house to act as coordinator between this group and others operating in the area and also to protect the light house and its communication gear from falling into wrong hands even for a short while.

The 21 mtr masonry tower with the red flasher on top looked impressive in the dark .He has been told the flashing lights can be seen as far as 40 kms out into the open sea and he can in an emergency use the flasher as a back up communication module by changing the flashing frequency to a pre arranged sequence which would alert both the jamnagar airbase and the navy ships and aircraft out in the Arabian sea and they will move in for the kill immediately .It was also important for him to check up the radio transmission link on the light house and establish a communication link with jamnagar naval authorities for salvage operation once the target have been secured anytime within next hour or so.

The Indian marine commandoes are perhaps the least known of all the special forces of the world and very few Indians were even aware they existed till Sri Lanka peace keeping operation boomeranged into a full fledged war .Units of 340 independent brigade were deployed in jaffna and batticaloa and it is here they first went to combat against a LTTTE base in Guru Nagar .This was followed in 1988 when the force was instrumental in crushing the coup attempt in Maldives when India offered military assistance in a matter of hours once such an urgetnt request was forwarded to Indian prime minister Rajiv Gandhi. At that time it was still not named as marine commando force but went by the name of marine security forceor MSF.Terrorists in Kashmir faced the gun of marcos when the walar lake area used by terrorists for gun and explosive running was handed over to marcos detachments which effectively denied use of this vital route to the terrorists and was largely responsible for army successes in the region.

However Indian marine commandoes came to public attaention when erstwhile prime minister Vajpayee was booked in breach candy hospital for knee replacement surgery. At the request of special protection group responsible for prime ministers security a small detachment of marcos patrolled the coast around breach candy for weeks in fast assault boats armed to teeth which may or may not have included a wide variety of weapon systems from ak 47s to mp5 sub machine guns to cyanide tipped arrows and hi power browning hand guns along with some very expensive imaging and communication systems still highly classified .

It took lt commander Doshi and his team about 15 minutes to secure the light house complex at pirotan island and then they fanned out searching for the Pakistani naval personnel on perimeter security.

The fight was not fair by any standards .On one side were the 20
+ Indian marine commandoes trained to fight and kill effortlessly and on the other side 35 odd Pakistani naval sailors more used to drive a submarine than fight a hand to hand combat with one of the worlds best commando force .The end to pakistani sailors on ground came quickly and surely as they were located one by one and hands clamped over mouth followed by a quick slash at the wind pipe .As their life blood gurgled onto the sandy beach the commando was already busy stripping them of their arms and uniform and donning it quickly as they searched for more .

For the marcos team to approach the sub form land without being challenged it was imperative they b not recognized from distance. The fact that all of them sported a healthy growth of beard helped the deception a long way . Still it took time to search and kill the small groups of agosta sailors and by the time the last of them have been accounted for the watch on lt co doshi’s watch showed 1403 hrs .He bent forward and spoke on his throat mike and up in the lighthouse tower the message was acknowledged and the light frequency was changed from 1 every 20 seconds to one every 10 seconds .

15 kms to south east air traffic controller jamnagar airbase noted the changed strobe frequency of the light house and alerted the naval authorities who put out the information on secured tactical net .By 1405 everyone in the loop knew the Pakistani agosta was ready to be taken from sea and land

MARINE COMMANDO GROUP CHARLIE -3KM WEST OF ROZY ISALND
0200 HRS

Commander Dipak Sen had an instinctive dislike for things reptilian and snales topped the list though it did not have any logical basis. In fact during graduation a aprt of his commando course was in fact how to catch a poisonous snake skin it and eat it smoked over grass fire but that did not change anything. As he was dragged by the low humming underwater scooter 30 ft under the surface at more than 7 knots with only the scooters head lamps for lights ,he did keep an wary eye open for unwelcome swimming companions found in this creek. His air force friends took great pleasure in informing about the sea snakes and the particularly the marsh crocodiles and large salt water crocodiles that some times frequent these waters particularly during night hours.

The illuminated dials on his wrist compass showed 20 –n/60e which meant slightly off course and he did the nessecery course correction by simply turning in the head of the underwater scooter slightly and retained it in this askewed position for afew minutes till the compass showed 22.36n/69.57e the correct bearing to pirotan island as he skirted the rozy island to his left and headed straight for the reported location fo the Pakistani sub,the underwater light throwing up a Halloween halo all around .

Indian marine commandoes came to worlds attention as late as 2001 when during an international fleet review detachments of this force escorted their supreme commander of the coast of Mumbai which was incidentally led by Lt commander Dipak .and after that it was almost routine for the special protection group in charge of vvip security to call for assistance of the marcos whenever they felt the security of the president or prime minister was under threat particularly from sea side ,wherever they went .

The water temperature started dropping as dipak and his team approached the target zone .The first sea snake made its appearance soon after .It was a 3.5 mtr long and as thick as dipaks arm with white strips on a ink blue background .She seemed to take a particular interest in the water scooter and swam effortlessly paralleling the course for almost 5 minutes looking at the scooter and dipak with its bady eyes till it decided that the combination of the two legged awkwardly swimming creature and the noisy contraption was not a good source of eatable protein after all and swam off into darkness. Commander dipak knew sea snakes are usually highly venomenous and their quick acting venom is strong enough to kill or incapacitate a large mammal in few seconds but also they are not usually aggressive and he took maximum care not to provoke the reptilian giant to strike in self defense knowing fully well his thin rubber suit was no protection from the bite of the snake and as usal he or his team mates were not carrying any anti venom .

The underwater world of jamnagar marine park had many other residents too ,curiously following the marcos team progress thru their territory from the playful school of dolphins who chased the water scooter all the way to pirotan beach and the numerous colourful coral reef fishes darting across the teams path every few seconds and few more sea snakes crossed their path till in the distance the unmistakable hull of the agosta came into view as dipak switched of the motor and the lights and swam the last few hundred mtrs in complete slilence till his feet touched the sandy vegetation covered creek be
