That's what happens when you put some putrid lumps of lards who couldn't sprint 400m on a good day, in charge of our sports persons' well being. I hope Mary Kom puts her differences with Sarita Devi aside and comes out in full support of her.

India vs. Pakistan tomorrow Oct 2nd. Last time it happened in ASIAD was in Delhi 1982 when we lost 7-1., I was watching it on Doordarshan when the game started and promptly after 5 minutes or so electricity goes out. , It came back at the very end when we were losing 7-1.

We need to avenge this one with an emphatic win.

BTW.. The movie Chak De (Shahrukh Khan) is made around the goal keeper Meer Ranjan Negi (A Hindu) of the 1982 ASIAD Finals where he let Pakis score 7 goals (the most ever conceded by India) albeit in the movie the player is shown a Muslim by pSeculars.

The game starts 3:30 PM Indian Standard Time which corresponds to 6:00 AM Eastern Standard Time (USA)

Truly classy gesture on part of Mary Kom. She is the real deal. At her position, other people would fudge and dodge and try to be politically correct to keep the babus happy, not this woman. She openly calls out the South Koreans for cheating. Our gutless witless babus need to take some lessons in honesty and courage from her.

In women's Kabaddi India looked very sloppy in their semi final match with Thailand today and Iran demolished Bangladesh. The against Iran is going to be an extremely interesting match. In the last Asian games India just about managed to beat Iran by a weird tie breaker.

Watched the men's Kabaddi semis. Korea was pretty good and in next 4 years time they will be a team to watch. Most probably India will play Iran in the finals and it is not going to be easy.

While it may be a flippant post, it's important to remember team sports are not worthwhile sporting investments for multisport games. We are best served by investing in medal rich events. Both hockey and kabaddi are relatively useless in this regard - over a week of effort yields one medal per gender, at most. Further, each team needs an investment in between 10-20 people, for that one medal. A better choice would be suggesting something like Kalaripayattu, in different weight classes, for both genders.

While I am happy India won the Asiad gold after a long time, I am disappointed with the quality of hockey displayed by India. We seem to be unable to enhance the quality of our hockey to those displayed by the Aussies and Germans.

OK, with a couple of Gs in kabaddi on the final day, India has a good chance of retaining its #6 position in G medals (assuming DPRK and Qatar do not get any more). Already #5 position in overall medals seems fixed.

We're #5 in overall medals by a wide margin, with 55 gained and 2 more assured from kabaddi. Iran is #6 with 45 medals. Kazakhstan is above us with 71 medals, along with the Japan/Korea/China. 57 medals from this weak contingent is good. If you look at the distribution, we medaled in many odd places - swimming, sailing, wushu, women's throwing events, race walking...

Further, many performances, even if not gold winning, were personal bests or national records. Examples:
Kushbir Kaur in 20km walk : silver + national record
Annu Rani in javelin : bronze + national record
Womens's 4x400 : gold + games record

I'm happy to see Indians win medals in throwing events. They're one of the most macho track and field events, and I like the sight of Indian men win discus and shot put medals, and women win the discus event, and also medal in javelin and hammer throw. 1 gold, 1 silver and 3 bronzes from throwing events is a totally un-SDRE performance. In 2010, our javelin competitor was nowhere near medaling, and this time the young girl is very good, breaking her national record while grabbing bronze. It makes up for the disappointment in the jumping events.

We would have won medals in women's 5000m and men's 10000m, but were shut out by African imports. We finished 4th in the former and 4th and 5th in the latter, all of them running personal bests. Bahrain and Qatar 'winning' with imports is a joke.

Congrats to the women's relay team - they not just won gold and established a games record but finished a full 2 seconds ahead of 2nd placed Japan. Good to see the hockey team come through as well. It seems they've swapped weakness in defense for sloppiness in offense now.

Great performance by the hockey team after all these years. It's outrageous that sports in India has languished so badly due to the fascination with the stupid "English gentleman's game" which has screwed the national mindset. Goddamn small-fry goremint babus and other assorted "officials" calling the shots and enjoying themselves on "phoren travels" at the expense of the taxpayers and the neglect of the sportspersons.

My Blood Boils When I Play Against Pakistan, Says India Hockey Hero PR Sreejesh

A large part of the win in the shootout was due to India's star goalkeeper and vice-captain Sreejesh and he had no qualms in admitting that beating Pakistan in the final was always special.

"People tell me that I play even better when India take on Pakistan in hockey. It could be true because I get into revenge mode during a Pakistan game and my blood also boils," Sreejesh told NDTV in an interview after the game at the Seonhak Hockey Stadium in Incheon.

The gold was only the third won by India in Asian Games hockey since the game made its debut in 1958 at Tokyo. It was in 1998 that India had won their second men's hockey gold at the Bangkok Games and it was only the second time in seven finals that India had emerged triumphant, the only other time being in 1966, also at Bangkok.

The title triumph in the continental Games also gained India a direct berth into the 2016 Olympic Games, thus taking a big burden off the team's shoulders to make it through the tricky qualifying rounds in which they had faltered in 2008 and failed to make it to Beijing.

Pretty dramatic come from behind win in men's kabaddi. We were 13-21 behind at half time, and only woke up then. It's good to have strong competition so we don't get so complacent. Kudos to the Iranians - both their men and women fought hard even though they lost.

YUp was wondering, Iran is doing well even in sports like Kabadi, a subcontinental sport! They have 18 gold's and that mostly homegrown talent unlike merceneries for say Qatar Bharain etc. We got to atleast beat Iran, Kazakistan next Asian games.

Iranians have a long history of sporting accomplishment, especially in strength sports. They've been medaling in wrestling and weightlifting at the Olympics for decades. Their AG performance has been ~20 golds in the last two games. We can't aspire to have 3-5 golds at Olympics without having the ability to consistently win 25-30 golds at AG, with particular focus on some sports where we perform to world standard.

Turns out Iranians know about kabaddi, but they call it different. I know about this because a bunch of us guys were hanging out with an Iranian dude and we were talking about stuff and the subject of kabaddi came up and when we described the sport to him, his eyes lit up and he said something like "oh yes, we call it zoooooooooo..." (they make that buzzing sound instead of saying the word, so that way they can tell if someone's out of breath). Apparently it is a popular rural sport in Iran too.

After Sarita devi episode, Hope no one here ever joins Paki/Brit/Oz club to denounce BCCI and BCCI chiefs. They may be corrupt and useless but all of them have made sure that no one messes with Indian teama and gets away with it.
Imagine Sarita Devi belonging to cricket fraternity, These judges would have been 'retired' in next one year while SK begging India to visit them..
