I think the best way to understand this is to look at the money. In today's cricket, I bet that ticket sales account for almost nothing. It's all through other channels. So sending Test matches to smaller places spreads the game and allows others to watch. I grew up in Mysore and back then we did not have a stadium. I was never taken to Bangalore to watch live. So I've never seen a Test match. Mysore now gets Ranjis and I would have gone to watch if it was back then. Maybe ODIs are next.

they should allot ODI's & T20's to the secondary stadiums, which they do anyway. either put test matches in grounds which fill up or get the local association to reduce entry fee so that at least a minimum % of ground is filled up over 5 days. else the ground will not be considered for the next round of match allocations.
empty grounds take down TV revenue too, most fans dont watch it on TV either because there's no environment at the stadium. in the long run this will kill tests.

The World Youth 2019 turned out to be a good event for India as the contingent won seven out of the 18 medals at stake. Praggnanandhaa provided the biggest cheer with the gold in under-18 open. The silver medals were won by Vantika Agrawal in under-18 girls, Srihari LR in under-14 open and Divya Deshmukh in under-14 girls. Bronze medals went to Sreeshwan Maralakshikari in under-14 open, Rakshitta Ravi in under-14 girls and Aronyak Ghosh in under-16 open. Although in terms of number of medals, India had the highest, Russia was the best performing nation with three gold medals! In this article we give you the summary of all the champions in different age categories.
https://chessbase.in/news/World-Youth-2019-Round-11

The fact that we won 7 medals is key, to show us we have the depth & breadth in the field. Barring one section, we medalled in all sections.

I remember in 2015, we had a terrific haul of medals as well.

Raunak Sadwani at 13 years and 9 months becomes India's 65th GM. We now have 4 or 5 GM's under 15 years of age. May be more. Hopefully, some of them will go on to become world champions.

Nihal, Pragg, Gukesh etc are some of the top young players. In 3-4 years, we can start dreaming.

Looks like Indian cricket team's captain agrees with me.
https://www.cricbuzz.com/cricket-news/1 ... -max-kohli
We should have five strong Test centres in India: Kohli

"Look, you want to keep Test cricket alive and exciting, I totally agree with the fact that we should have five Test centres at max. It can't be sporadic and spread over so many places where people turn up or they don't," Kohli said on Tuesday (October 22) in Ranchi. "We have been discussing this for a long time now, and in my opinion we should have five Test centres. Period."

India play at well-established venues whenever they travel overseas to destinations like England, Australia, South Africa, New Zealand or even Sri Lanka. Kohli said that knowing the venues and the kind of challenges that come bundled with it, becomes a challenge it itself.

"Teams coming to India should know that we are going to play at these five centers, these are the pitches we should expect, these are the kind of people who will come to watch... crowds. That becomes a challenge already when you're leaving the shores. Because we go to any place, we know we have four Test matches at these venues, this is what the pitches are going to do, it is going to be full stadium, the crowd behind the team," Kohli said.

I feel bad that one of the legends of Indian cricket has to be shown the door like this. Why didn't he just retire gracefully?
He should have given the BCCI a timeline for retirement and a player of his stature in India would never be dropped at this point and he would be feted at every ground that he played. A fitting goodbye.
Gavaskar did it right. Tendulkar was okay. Kapil had to be pushed out.

This was expected once Ganguly became the top guy. Dhoni's future was really a 50/50 choice, and depended a lot on authorities liking him enough or not. All involved are human and personal biases/past-history are difficult to ignore.

During ICC women's world cup, I think he rested captain Mithali Raj in the final game. India has ended it's undefeated streak in that final game. Since that day, I don't personally trust MSK Prasad's judgement.

Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty beat a whole host of top teams to make the final of the badminton French Open Series 750 event. They beat reigning world champions Ahsan/Setiawan of Malaysia, and top Japanese pair Endo and Hayakawa, before falling in the final to the world #1 pairing from Indonesia. They're finally showing their true potential, having won a series 500 event and made a series 750 one.

They were nervous in the final.
Rankireddy is top class. Shetty needs to bulk up.
Good show in the French Open by them. Next big tournament would be in March perhaps. The All England and then the Olympics in July.

Both the men’s and women’s hockey teams have qualified for the Tokyo Olympics . The qualifiers were 2-match series against another country . The men beat Russia 4-2 and 7-1 to win 11-3 on aggregate . The women beat the powerful USA team 5-1 and then lost 1-4 to make it through 6-5 . The women’s performance was certainly unexpected , but they have been playing competitively for the past 2 years .

Women's team is on Virat Kohli's diet of high protein and no carbs from last 6-7 months. This has lifted their game to top. Now if Women can get to the podium that will be the ultimate achievement. Go India.

the more I see of rishabh pant the more I end up disliking his attitude. no idea of how to play the situation, very selfish running, full effort for own runs, zero effort for other's runs. got dhawan out by trying to push for a double when there was none. this was the attitude of players of manjrekar's generation. don't want to see the same in this generation.

Lakshya Sen Wins Second Straight Super 100 Title.
Lakshya Sen on Sunday won the SaarLorLux Open Super100 title with a sensational come from behind win over China's Weng Hong Yang. It was Lakshya's second consecutive Super 100 title and third straight tournament win overall.

The 18-year-old was trailing 17-21, 13-16 before clinching seven straight points to take the match into the third game. The match lasted 58 minutes with the third game ending 21-16 in his favour.

They beat the 2018 world champions and China's best pair of Li Junhui / Liu Yuchen in the quarterfinals. Straight games too. Both teams are tall 6 footers but the Rankireddy/Shetty pair were much cleverer.

They're clearly top 5 material now, having made successive 750 series final and semifinal and won a 500 level event. The only team they can't seem to beat is the world #1 Indonesian pair - they've beaten everyone else including the current world champion and 2018 world champions.

Not sure if they are there yet. Imho, they played much better against the indonesians than against the Chinese, although with opposite result. What they are doing is - playing flat and refusing to give lifts. Almost everyone does this in doubles. Rankireddy and Shetty are doing this more successfully because they arent doing it as fast, prompting mistakes from one of the teams. Thats why the very large number of short rallies in their matches.
What they must be able to do is to beat their opponents by playing fast and aggressive. Something like the 2nd set against the Indonesians.
They need better practice partners. Shetty needs to bulk up. No injuries and consistent results; and we may see them win a medal in the Olympics.

India won THREE golds on the first day of the 2019 shooting World Cup Final . Posters may remember that India topped all four legs this year . The team continues the form into the year end finals .
Divyansh Singh Panwar - men’s 10m air rifle
Manu Bhaker - women’s 10m air pistol
Elavenil Valariven- women’s 10m air rifle

Once again we lead the medal tally, ahead of hosts China . With 19 golds across 4 legs plus final so far, our lead is insurmountable . China is a long way behind at 11.

The only disappointment was that both Saurabh Chaudhry and Abhishek Verma failed to medal in the 10m men’s air pistol event . Both made the final but neither medaled . A rare event , and They should be extra motivated next year to avoid that at Olympics .

The mixed team events are also potential for gold medals.

Yeah but we still nowhere w.r.t rest of the Asia. We are atleast two decades behind Asia in terms of quality and skill.
As much Interesting the game looks when viewed in stadium, It still is pretty yawn inducing on TV while the current generation of viewers are feasting on La-Liga and EPL.

Agree on that count, though we are inside top 110 now, so things are on the up and up. During the aiff days, it was long all passes and scoring via set-pieces, boring as anything. Atleast, now there is some initiative of rotating the ball, on the ground at that, which can only portend to better things. Though having watched the second and third tier leagues of serie b, c and epl, i see similarities with the third tier at the very least and on certain occasions, breaks into the second tier.
