I am excited to see Shardul Thakur play as our overseas pace bowling allrounder. I hope he is not overlooked for Pandya. He is a better, regular bowler than Pandya and might turn out to be a better test batsman than Pandya. He deserves a chance.

Just checked the sport shooting scene recently: both the youngest 10m air rifle shooting prodigies - Divyansh Singh Panwar and Elavenil Valariven - have made world record breaking scores in the national shooting last month.

Divyansh is 18 and won 4 golds in the 2019 World Cup series. Elavenil is 21 and won 2, in addition to a junior golds . With Apurvi Chandela and Anjum Moudgil often taking the senior spots, it took a while for Elavenil to break in. Both strong prospects for Olympic medals in 10m air rifle .

Tokyo bound Divyansh breaks world record at national shooting trials
Elavenil beats Apurvis world mark in national trials

Wrestling: Vinesh Phogat followed up gold in Kiev with a second gold in the Perricone event in Italy

Track: Neeraj Chopra is building up form , throwing a new national record 88.07 in javelin , breaking the previous mark he set in the 2018 Asian Games by one cm:
Switching to new javelin, Neeraj Chopra returns to form with national record
It is quite early in the athletic season, and right now Neeraj's throw is the world leading throw for 2021. 88+ metres would typically medal in any Olympics, and would have won gold in the last world championship. Chopra didn't take part in it due to injury.

This is a great article about Neeraj Chopra's experience with the new javelin. He switched from his old Nemeth javelin to the cutting edge Nordic Valhalla. The old one can't go as far unless the conditions are perfect but it is more forgiving of weaker technique, while the Valhalla demands perfect technique in return for which it performs even in crosswind conditions. The top Germans use the Valhalla.

Olympic-bound Indian boxer Manish Kaushik (63kg) struck gold in his first competitive outing in a year even as five others signed off with silver medals in the 35th Boxam International Tournament in Castellon, Spain.

Manish defeated Denmark's Nikolai Terteryan in a split decision.

However, Mohammed Hussamuddin (57kg) and Vikas Krishan (69kg) ended with silver medals among men.

Hussamuddin gave a walkover to Jean Paul Rivera of Puerto Rico, which was struck by a positive COVID-19 case. The reasons for the Indian's pullout were not immediately not known.
Vikas Krishan (69kg), however, lost a gruelling final to Spain's Youba Sissokho, a bout in which the Indian was left with a cut above his right eye.

Among women, Simranjit Kaur (60kg), Pooja Rani (75kg) and Jasmine (57kg) ended with silver medals among women.

World bronze-medallist Simranjit could not take the ring against Rashida Ellis of USA after her semifinal opponent -- Kiria Tapia of Puerto Rico -- positive COVID-19 report forced the organisers to stop her from competing despite the Indian returning a negative test.

"Because of local government regulations, she could not compete," Indian women's boxing's high performance director Rafaelle Bergamasco said from Castellon after initial information of an injury trickled in.

Pooja, on the other hand, lost 0-5 to another American Melissa Graham.

The Indian women boxers thus ended their campaign with three silver and one bronze medal. Six-time world champion M C Mary Kom (51kg) had ended with a bronze after a semifinal loss.

Debutant Jasmine (57kg) also ended with a silver after going down to European champion Irma Testa of Italy.

Asian champion Pooja fought hard but did not connect as much as she attempted against the decidedly faster Graham, who dominated with her impressive counter-attacks.

The spirited Jasmine also gave it her all but Testa's tactical superiority shone through.

The nimble-footed Italian's eye-catching combination punches and sheer power were just too much to handle for the rookie Indian, whose campaign overall was quite impressive.

Later on Saturday night, Ashish Kumar (75kg), Sumit Sangwan (81kg) and Satish Kumar (+91kg) will compete in the men's finals.

Of these, Ashish and Satish are bound for Tokyo Olympics.

New Delhi, March 7

The Indian men’s boxing team’s final campaign at the 35th Boxam International Tournament in Castellon, Spain, was derailed by a positive COVID-19 case in the side, resulting in three withdrawals from the summit clashes.

Olympic-bound Ashish Kumar (75kg) tested positive for the virus and as a result of being his roommates, Mohammed Hussamuddin (57kg) and Sumit Sangwan (81kg) were forced to withdraw from the finals on Sunday night.

All three of them ended with silver medals which could have been gold but for the unforeseen circumstances.

“What started as a great competition has ended in an anti-climax,” Indian boxing’s High Performance Director Santiago Nieva told PTI from Castellon.

Ashish is “asymptomatic and is doing fine”. He will serve his quarantine in Castellon for two weeks before heading back to India.

Hussamuddin and Sumit have tested negative and are travelling back with the team which will land in Mumbai on Monday.

Also unable to compete in the final was veteran Satish Kumar (+91kg) due to “sickness”.

Manish Kaushik (63kg) ended up being the sole gold medal winner for the side, beating Denmark’s Nikolai Terteryan in the summit clash to complete a brilliant comeback from a knee injury which kept him out of action for a year.

Among the women, Simranjit Kaur (60kg), who is also bound for the Olympics, was forced out of her final after her semifinal opponent—Kiria Tapia of Puerto Rico—tested positive for the virus. The Indian, however, has returned a negative test.

“Because of local government regulations, she could not compete,” Indian women’s boxing’s high performance director Rafaelle Bergamasco said.

Vikas Krishan (69kg) was the only other male boxer to compete on Sunday, losing a gruelling contest to Spain’s Youba Sissokho. The Indian was left with a cut above his right eye in the ferocious contest.

In the women’s draw, Pooja Rani (75kg) and Jasmine (57kg) also signed off with silver medals after being beaten by superior opponents in American Melissa Graham and Italian Irma Testa respectively.

India’s campaign thus ended with one gold, eight silver and one bronze medal that was claimed by six-time world champion M C Mary Kom. PTI

A very interesting thing happening with Telugu Film Song "Sarangadariya".

This song is a folk song.... it all started with a girl named "komali" who was working in rice field in around 2009, in a remote village in Telangana, close to Warangal Town, when one of the co-worker who was slow in sowing the "rice plant" which is called నాఱు in local language. That girl was beautiful. Usually, the beautiful girls have their own style and pace. Other ladies are jealous about them and make fun of their style and laugh.

The other co-worker of "Komali" was komali's own Grandma, who was also sowing నాఱు and felt irritated at the slow pace of this beautiful co-worker and sang a folk song "daani kudi bhujam meeda kadavaa... daani guttepu raikelu meriya.... adhi rammante raadura semiya.... daani pere SARANGADARIYA" which means usually the village girls when taking water to their houses from water bodies nearby, if the girl has a style and feels proud of her beauty, puts the pot on her right shoulder (which makes her left side curve of her waist, which is usually exposed, bulge and very attractive in saree and blouse...) and would not even respond even if you call her, as her name is SARANGADARIYA.

You can see the pose of Sai Pallavi...

In 2010 (Andhra Pradesh was united then )there was a TV show where the folk songs were sung and most original songs were rewarded. Komali sang this song.

In 2021 when this song was released, its become a blockbuster hit. As Komali was not recognized, she started claiming the song as hers.

Well, it happens many times that the commercial cinema plagiarises for money, its not strange or unheard of behaviour from the film personalities. They said its folk song and nobody can claim copyrights on such songs...

But what is strange is that there are debates going on in TV regarding this song as it has a very historical background.

Sarangadhareswara temple in Rajahmundri in AP is 12th century temple. Lord Shiva comes to earth to revive SARANGADHARA who was killed by his own father suspecting him to have illicit Relationship with Chitrangi. Lots of folk songs were there describing the beauty of Chitrangi. Chitrangi is a Chola Princes (perhaps Tamizh Princess) and very beautiful. She gets married to Chalukya King (father of Sarangadhara) in a political marriage for peace between Cholas and Chalukyas. Chalukyas were very powerful Telugu Kings in 12 th century.

There's a Telugu movie in 1957 SARANGADHARA. Very legendary movie. Also There's a Thamizh Remake of the same movie with same name, also starred by legendary actors.

Now why Telangana people are claiming the ownership of SARANGADARIYA (Chitrangi) when only either Andhra people have a right to call her their own or Tamil people can claim her as their own?

Bhavani Devi scripts history, becomes first Indian fencer to qualify for Olympics
CHENNAI: Tamil Nadu's CA Bhavani Devi has become the first ever Indian fencer to qualify for the Tokyo Olympic Games. The sabre fencer secured a spot in the World Cup in Hungary after the hosts lost in the quarterfinals of the team event, allowing South Korea to progress to the semi-final.
Bhavani Devi qualifies through the Adjusted Official Ranking (AOR) Method.
Two individual spots were up for grabs for the Asia and Oceania region based on the World Rankings as of April 5, 2021. She is ranked 45th and occupies one of the two available slots based on the ranking.
The 27-year-old's qualification will be confirmed when the rankings are made official on the aforementioned date.
"It is a historic moment as @IamBhavaniDevi becomes the 1st ever fencer from India to qualify for the @Olympics in women's individual sabre on basis of Adjusted Official ranking at the Men's and Women's Sabre World Cup in Budapest. Many congratulations!," Sports Authority of India tweeted.

The eight-time national champion had failed to qualify for the Rio Olympics.
However, she stepped up efforts to secure qualification for the Tokyo games and continued to train in Italy under coach Nicola Zanotti before the COVID-19-induced shutdown halted the qualification process.
The Tokyo Olympics scheduled to be held in 2020 were put off owing to the COVID-19 pandemic and are scheduled to take place from July 23 to August 8 this year.
SAI coach Sagar Lagu, who trained Bhavani Devi at the SAI centre in Thalassery, Kerala from 2008 to 2015, said she had qualified due to her hard work and dedication.
"I am delighted for her. She was trying to qualify for the Olympics from 2012. This is the first time any Indian fencer has qualified for the Olympics," he said.
"It is due to her hard work and dedication that she has secured qualification for the Tokyo games," Lagu added.
Recalling her struggles early in the career, he said Bhavani Devi did not give up during tough times early (in her fencing career) and worked hard to achieve her goals.
"She went through tough times but hard work gave her the results. She did not give up though she faced hard times early in her career to achieve her goals," he said of Bhavani Devi, who is training in Italy presently.
Bhavani Devi, who is the first Indian fencer to win gold at an international event, did not let the COVID-19 enforced lockdown affect her preparations and had trained with coach Zanotti having online sessions.

Two athletics national records recently:

Sreeshankar Murali in long jump: 8.26 metres
Definitely good by continental standards. Would medal in several Olympics, but depending on NR/PB performance at world stage is unreasonable. Ideally he'll make the final with 8.xx jump

Avinash Sable in 3000m steeplechase: 8 min 20 sec
Would win Asian Games gold any day but nowhere near Olympic medal because of Africans. Would easily qualify for Olympic final though.

Both will face Chennai-like hot/humid conditions in Tokyo in August.

Vinesh is in better shape than Bajrang. Vinesh should get a medal.

Vinesh defeated two girls who qualified today at European Qualification comfortably. Right after Asian qualification, Asian championship is there, Vinesh's preparation against N Korea, China, Mongolia & Japan will be tested there. But I think She is improving with every tournament (she had two so far).

Bajrang had hard time in final against Mongolian wrestler (fight for every point and IIRC last 15-20 sec he got lead) and so far he played only one tournament Matteo Pellicone so he is picking up late than Vinesh. I am sure he will work on short coming. His preparation will also be tested against Asian wrestler there. Same Mongolian guy, Kazak & Japanese wrestler to look out for.

Ravi 57kg, supposed to play Matteo Pellicone but got injured & could not play it so, do not know his status yet. Hopefully he will also play Asian championship. I rated Ravi higher than Bajrang till 2020. Not sure how was his preparation during lockdown.

Deepak 86kg, same, he supposed to play Matteo Pellicone too but could not due to covid and recovery. Hopefully he will also play Asian championship too.

97kg & 125kg it is better if we talk less.

Women's, I had hope from Anshu 57kg but she got injured in semi of Matteo Pellicone. I wish she has recovered from it and qualify for Asian qualification. Side note: I hope she goes Vinesh's way and get foreign personal coach after Tokyo 2020.

I do not have hope from Sakshi nor Divya Kakran.

Kamal, Sathiyan, Sutirtha seal Tokyo Olympics berth

https://www.rediff.com/sports/report/sh ... 210319.htm

Indian paddler G Sathiyan has qualified for his maiden Summer Games with a comfortable 4-0 win over Pakistan's Muhammad Rameez in the Asian Olympic Games Qualification Tournament in Doha.

Sathiyan, ranked 38th, had defeated compatriot and world number 32 Sharath Kamal in his opening match on Thursday. On the basis of his world ranking and his win over Pakistan's Rameez, Sharath too has made the cut.

World number 62 Manika Batra, too, is also set to qualify despite her 2-4 loss to compatriot Sutirtha Mukherjee 2-4 in the women's singles event on Thursday evening. Sutirtha sealed her Tokyo berth with the win and Manika is likely to join her on the basis of her ranking.

Both Manika and Sharath will be on the plane to Tokyo but the ITTF will only confirm that in April, when all qualification events around the world are over.

"It's a priceless moment and I am really speechless to express how I feel right now. It's been a childhood dream of mine to take part in the Olympics and it is surely one of the best moments of my life!

"Now that I have qualified, I'm looking forward to putting in a strong performance at Tokyo and making my mark there," said Sathiyan, who recently won his maiden national title.

Sathiyan defeated Rameez 11-5, 11-8, 11-9, 11-2 to win the South Asia category quota slot.

Taking on Sutirtha in the South Asia women's final, Manika began well but failed to build upon the initial lead as the former emerged the surprise winner across six games 7-11, 11-7, 11-4, 4-11, 11-5, 11-4.

In the fourth game, the 2018 Commonwealth Games gold medal came back strongly to level the score but Manika was never in the right frame and failed to strike rhythm.

So much so, she managed only five points in the next to help Sutirtha go 3-2 up. In the sixth, the former national champion took seven points on the trot to emerge a deserving winner in less than 35 minutes.

Sharath and Manika, who play their mixed doubles semi-finals on Friday evening, take on Pang Yew En Koen and Lin Ye from Singapore. If they qualify the Asian Games bronze winning pairing will be India's shot for a maiden table tennis medal at the Olympics.

Players from East Asia, Middle Asia, South Asia, and Southeast Asia are contesting in the Asian Singles Qualification, being held at Doha, for a place each in the men's singles and women's singles, apart from the lone mixed doubles spot.

Except for South Asia, players from the other three regions will play in two stages, including the knockout round.

West Asia held its qualification event at Amman (Jordan) last year. Saudi Arabia's Ali Alkhadrawi in men's singles and 11-year-old Syrian, Zaza Hend, had booked their Tokyo berths. Zaza was the youngest, at that time, to qualify for the Games.

Kamal became the first Indian paddler to qualify for the Tokyo Olympic Games after a dominant win over Pakistan's Muhammad Rameez on Thursday.

The veteran Indian thrashed Rameez 11-4, 11-1, 11-5, 11-4 in little over 22 minutes in the second men's singles round-robin match in the South Asia group.

Kamal had lost his opening match 9-11, 13-15, 11-5, 11-7, 12-10, 9-11, 8-11 to compatriot Gnansekaran Sathiyan.

The win over Rameez ensured at least a second-place finish for Kamal and it was enough to secure a spot in the delayed Games, scheduled to begin in July.

One quota is awarded to the highest-ranked second-placed player in the event. Sharath being the top-ranked player in the group, secured the berth under the Asian quota.

It will be Kamal's fourth appearance at the Olympic Games.

"It was a good match against Sathiyan but I made some errors and he capitalised on them to win the match. I was a bit nervous before playing against Rameez as I had never faced him before.

"But after the first few games I was confident that my strategy was working and I executed it well to maintain control," the world number Sharath said.

The 38-year-old Sharath said it's a big relief for him to qualify for this year's Tokyo Olympics.

"A lot of things have happened since March 2020. I became the champion in Oman and was in good touch, was preparing to play the qualification match in Thailand in just two weeks and suddenly everything came to a standstill.

"I have achieved the best rankings of my career and it's a huge sigh of relief especially the way this year has been. Though this will be my fourth Olympics, it will be my best Olympic Games."

Strong performance in the ISSF Shooting World Cup in New Delhi so far. This is likely to be the biggest medal hope at Tokyo. India leads the medal table:

2021 ISSF World Cup New Delhi
1 IND 6 4 4 14
2 USA 3 2 1 6
3 DEN 2 0 0 2
4 KAZ 1 1 1 3
5 IRI 1 1 2
6 GBR 1 0 0 1
Arguably weak because the Chinese, Russians and Koreans were absent but India are still the strongest team in air rifle/pistol in the last 2 years, given 2019 World Cup medal table saw India at the top.

By Event:
1. Men's Air Pistol 10m
Saurabh Chaudhry and Abhishek Verma won silver and bronze. Both will feel insulted by this performance - they dominated this event in 2019, but were rusty this time. Overall everyone shot poorly, far off from the WR (which Saurabh holds). Both will hopefully become more focused by this loss - sometimes a loss going into the main tournament is good.

2. Women's Air Pistol 10m
Gold-silver to India, with Yashaswini Deswal beating Manu Bhaker. This is again a good result - a less fancied team mate gets a boost, while Bhaker will feel angry and focused on Tokyo.

3. Men's Air Rifle 10m
Divyansh Singh Panwar won bronze. Once again a weak performance for the 18 year old who's the current WR holder. Shooting standard was much below Panwar's WR level, and the loss will motivate him.

4. Women's Air Rifle 10m
Surprisingly a bad day in an event where we have 3 world class shooters. Better to do this badly here than at Tokyo.

All these events were on the first 2 days, which were the first real competition anyone's had in over a year. During third day, things picked up a lot:

5. Mixed Team Air Rifle 10m
Elavenil and Divyansh won gold. They hold the WR individually in this event and are the world's strongest team. Strong gold medal hope in Tokyo

6. Mixed Team Air Pistol 10m
Saurabh and Manu won gold. They hold the WR individually and are the world's strongest mixed team. Strong gold medal hope in Tokyo

Non Olympic events:

7. Men's Team Air Rifle 10m
Silver behind the US. We don't have enough bench strength besides Divyansh here, but does not matter as it's not an Olympic sport - only the mixed team events are.

8. Women's Team Air Rifle 10m
Didn't send a strong team, finished 4th.

9. Men's Team Air Pistol 10m
Won gold.

10. Women's Team Air Pistol 10m
Won gold.

11. Men's Skeet Team
Won gold.

12. Women's Skeet Team
Won silver.

If the team keeps up current performance, they'll pick up 2 golds, potentially more if they also perform strongly in all events.

On top of this : No overseas fans at Tokyo Olympics: Indian athletes won’t have personal coaches
India’s medal prospects for the Tokyo Olympics are preparing for a scenario where their personal coaches and other support staff — physiotherapists, psychologists, etc –, as well as family members, will not be with them during the event.
The decision is likely to impact Indian athletes. Take for instance the case of wrestler Bajrang Punia. One of the key persons who has catapulted Punia from the fringes of India’s Olympic team in 2016 to being a medal contender heading into the Tokyo Games is his Georgian coach Shako Bentinidis.
Indian wrestling coaches are god for nothing. We saw how clueless they are when it come to provide helpful instruction during live match their wards.

and

From today's (03/22) trials. Indian WW team for Asian Olympic qualifiers.

50kg - Seema
57 kg - Anshu Malik
62kg - Sonam Malik
68kg - Nisha Dahiya
76 kg - Pooja Sihag

Nice to see Anshu is back. Sakshi lost to Sonam 7-8. Divya supposed to compete in 68kg category, not sure what has happened. WFI has contract with wrestling.tv but it seems they are more into European Qualfiers than Indian selection trials !

Another three golds at the ongoing Shooting World Cup:

Mixed Team Skeet: Angad Vir Singh Bajwa and Ganemat Sekhon beat Kazakhstan to gold. Not part of 2020 Olympics but will feature as a medal event in 2024.
Men's 50m 3 positions Air Rifle : Aishwarya Pratap Singh Tomar (age 20) beats a strong field to gold. This is an Olympic medal event. Gagan Narang won bronze in London 2012 in it.
Women's 25m pistol: India sweep all the medals - Chinki Yadav (23) beating the fancied Rahi Sarnobat to gold, Manu Bhaker getting bronze in an event that's not her strength. This is an Olympic medal event.
1 IND 9 5 5 19

India finished the first leg of the Shooting World Cup with 15 golds , half the total awarded. In 2019, we won 21 golds across all four legs plus the final . The total this time was pumped up by several team and mixed team events, some of which are being trialed for inclusion in the 2024 Olympics.

Amidst criticism that shooting is 'boring', the ISSF have found that team shooting events are surprisingly popular, and they are trialing several of them. Already, 2020 Olympics will see mixed team 10m air pistol and air rifle, both of which India have potential to win gold in.

Team shooting also benefits from players being able to come back from bad shots, since the per-round total only counts for that round, and there is no cumulative total. Originally, team shooting began with cumulative totals, but they quickly realized the round-by-round dueling is much more popular with spectators.

The telugu legendary gaandu casteists especially the pattittu's of Karamchedu have recently dialed up the revolutionary naxalism quotient of their movies by several notches.

What gives ?

Pattittu loosely translates to "Hypocrite" in Telgu.

Lilo Saar, other than Virata parvam (the second poster) the others are not overtly naxal themed. We have had this tradition/curse of trying to show that only the reds speak for the downtrodden/masses/poor in telugu film industry.
I had seen the trailer for Aranya (the fourth poster with Rana of bhallaladeva -bahubali fame for the uninitiated) and its more of a woke themed, protect forests from evil, rich industrialists using the elephant sanctuary as a back drop . he is probably the big named hero in that film with lot of new comers looks like. if these films bomb then people won't take a second film of similar genre.

we have had films come at regular intervals previously - there was film by the name "peoples encounter" i believe in the mid 90's that was a hit with naxal themes and that led to a spate of naxal themed films which eventually gave diminishing box office returns. we then had a "police story" with Sai Kumar that was a big hit based on police officers life and pressures in early 2000's and then we had a spate of police themed movies till they gave diminishing returns.
I guess the cycle is being brought back.

Buenos Aires (Argentina), 07 April 2021: After losing 3-4 to India in the first practice match, Olympic Champions Argentina quelled India's chances of a second consecutive victory as they made a strong comeback to hold the visitors 4-4 in a tense practice match here at Cenard, Buenos Aires on Wednesday. It was Varun Kumar (7' and 44'), Rajkumar Pal (13'), Rupinder Pal Singh (14') who scored for India while Leandro Tolini (10'), Lucas Toscani (23'), Ignacio Ortiz (42'), Lucas (57') scored for the home team.
Earlier in the match, India made a fine start with a well-structured attack that fetched them three goals in the first quarter. The first goal was courtesy forward Mandeep Singh who helped India earn a PC in the 7th minute which was effortlessly converted by dragflicker Varun Kumar. Though an early 1-0 lead put the home side on the backfoot, they bounced back in the 10th minute when they earned a PC. Leandro Tolini, who scored twice in the previous match, came up with a well-executed dragflick to equalise.
India, however, regained the lead with Rajkumar Pal's goal in the 13th minute. He was assisted by Nilakanta Sharma who has been in good nick, showing his prowess as an attacking midfielder. In the following minute, a PC earned by India forward Lalit Upadyay saw Rupinder Pal Singh score a splendid goal taking India's lead to 3-1 in the 14th minute.
The second quarter began with both teams trading PCs with eachother but none were successful. However, in the 23rd minute, Argentina's Lucas Toscani struck a fine goal to narrow India's lead to 3-2. Though India replied with aggressive attack, they were unable to create successful forays into the striking circle.
Following the 10-minute halftime break, both teams vied to dominant with the ball and played on par with eachother to keep the tempo up. It was eventually Argentina who succeeded in breaking the gridlock in this quarter by earning a PC which was well-struck by Argentina's attacking midfielder Ignacio Ortiz.
The 3-3 equaliser didn't dampen India's spirit as they successfully scored the fourth goal via forward Dilpreet Singh who made a successful entry foray into the striking circle, earning India a PC in the 44th minute. Varun made no mistake in converting the goal and regaining the lead for India.
With the visitors ahead only by a goal, the last quarter was a battle of nerves with the home team stepping on the gas to secure an equaliser. Though they created a PC in the early minutes of the fourth quarter, it was well-saved by India custodian Krishan Pathak but he could do little to stop Lucas's field goal in the 57th minute, thus ending the game in a 4-4 stalemate.
India will next face Argentina in the FIH Hockey Pro League match on 11 April 2021 at 0130 IST.

So the hockey team has played 6 matches against three top countries - Germany, GBR and Argentina and finished with 3 wins and 3 draws, no losses . Impressive given that all of them are away matches.

The FIH Pro League 2020-21 has resumed from India's perspective. This was halted during Covid but some ties resumed late last year. India played 2 games away against Olympic champion Argentina:
Game 1: tied 2-2, won PSO 3-2
Game 2: won 3-0

India sits in 4th place after 8 matches with 3 wins, 3 PSO wins and 2 losses. Several other teams have played many more games, with only Germany doing as well from just 8 games.

India has upcoming league matches against GBR, Spain and Germany, all away during May.

The points system is interesting. Win = 3 points, PSO win = 2 points, PSO loss = 1 point, Loss = 0 points.

World Cup Archery Stage 1: Deepika Kumari-led women’s recurve team beats Mexico to win gold.

Indian women’s recurve team held its nerve to pip Mexico 5-4 (27-26) in an intriguing final to grab a gold medal in the Archery World Cup Stage 1 here on Sunday.

Locked 4-4 in the shoot-off, the Indian team comprising seasoned Deepika Kumari, Ankita Bhakat and Komalika Bari shot 27 to edge out their Mexican rivals by one point and claim their first World Cup team gold after seven years.

This is Deepika’s fifth World Cup stage event team gold medal.

Deepika showed utmost composure to drill a perfect 10 in the final arrow of the shoot-off to put pressure on the 2012 London Olympics silver medalist Aida Roman who needed a nine but only to drift away for a poor eight score.

This was India’s fifth recurve women’s team gold in World Cup having won in Shanghai- 2011, Medellin-2013, Wroclaw-2013 and 2014 previously.

Deepika needs to control her nerves. She won't get such chance against mighty South Korean.

I am surprised after so many years, she is still becoming nervous at last arrow.

If i am not wrong there was a documentary in netflix some time ago about deepika kumari (i think its called "ladies first"). it has a small run time but essentially chronicles deepika kumari's rise. it was pointed out in that videos that she gets nervous and had a breakdown of sorts.

Maybe Rajyavardhan Rathore's suggestion that we need sport psychologist will also help. Deepika Kumari being in such nerve racking situations and coming out of it successfully will help her fight demons on her own and have a personalized way of channeling the pressure in future situations.

The Olympics-bound Indian shooting team today left for Croatia in a chartered flight for a two-and-a-half month training-cum-competition tour. This is their final preparatory tour before the Tokyo Olympic Games begin on July 23.

With coaches and support staff in tow, a 13-member Indian shooting team took off for Zagreb, where it will undergo a training camp before leaving for Osijek to take part in the European Championships (May 20 to June 6) followed by the combined ISSF World Cup (June 22 to July 3).

The two Olympics bound skeet shooters, Angad Vir Singh Bajwa and Mairaj Ahmad Khan, will be based in Italy.

Former India shooter Suma Shirur, now the high-performance coach of the national rifle team, wrote on Twitter: “With a ‘Bharat Mata ki Jay’ we get ready to depart for Croatia. From there straight to Tokyo 2020 Olympics. 80 days in total. The Indian shooting team needs your blessings to give their best.”

The chartered flight was arranged by the NRAI.

After the stint in Croatia, the team will directly leave for Tokyo to participate in the Olympics.

9 coaches

The ISSF World Cup in Osijek is being organised in place of the one earlier scheduled in Baku (from June 21 to July 2), which got cancelled due to a surge in Covid-19 cases there.

There will be nine coaches for the 13 rifle and pistol shooters but some coaches like Samaresh Jung, Jaspal Rana and Ronak Pandit could not leave today due to various reasons.
