Terrible shoot-out by India. Need to practice more. Need to finish games. Lots of missed scoring chances. But overall satisfactory performance given that the top 5 out of 6 teams were playing.

This is BS . For the second time in two years we lost the final to the same team the same way

I could not watch whole final match but what I saw that makes me think there are some important positives after having new coach and first tournament under him.

Positives:

1. Clean defense in own D. Specially coming from Varun Kumar & Surender Kumar. Invested time in them paid of.
2. Press Australian, specially in first and third quarters of final match and keep Dutch frustrated by not giving space.

Negatives:

1. Could not convert PCs, specially after having Ciriello.
2. I would like them to stop and break movements of opposition in middle of field than let them come all the way up to own 23 meter area. So play high press hockey like Dutch tried in this tournament but failed against Argentina & India.
3. One touch pass was missing for whole duration of game. They played it but mainly during counter. There is a new coach so I can understand but I hope they will play it for whole duration of games in future tournaments.
4. And of course, Win Shoot out.

This was the last edition of the Champions trophy, a premier competition that we have never won. Winning medals is far better for team spirit and morale than shuffling the squad around in preparation for "bigger" challenges up ahead. I feel the coach should have gone all out for a win and left experimentation for another day.

Shootout with old players is where we lost. Both team penetrated into D 20 times each. India got 4 penalty corners didn't convert any. Australia got 1 and converted it.

Defence was good! offense was missing the day. Either team could have won! It was so close!!

Dipa wins gold in Gymnastics World Cup.

Returning to action after nearly a two-year lay-off due to injury, India's premier gymnast Dipa Karmakar clinched the gold medal in the vault event of FIG Artistic Gymnastics World Challenge Cup in Mersin, Turkey on Sunday.

The 24-year-old from Tripura, who had finished fourth in vault event in the 2016 Rio Olympics, scored 14.150 to win gold. She had topped the qualification also with a score of 13.400. This is Dipa's first medal in a World Challenge Cup.

Dipa has also qualified in balance beam finals by finishing third in the qualification with a score of 11.850.

that burst in last 100 meter is incredible and if we invest on her to improve time by 2 minutes, very tough but not impossible, atleast podium finish or may be Gold in olympics.

I always say we have enormous talent in Rural India, just nurture them and give proper opportunity they can do wonder.

Hima Das' time is within 2 seonds of Rio olympics podium finish.

2 sec in sprint is like 20 meters difference which is huge. Even Mhd. Anas the male sprinter is 2 sec off WR. But Hima is only 18. Lets see if she catches up.

Glad to see everyone talking about Hima Das. I saw the news yesterday but was too busy to post about. She doesn't look like some scrawny SDRE either - tough and powerful, accelerating out of the final bend to win by a mile.

Until 2016 we had no gold medalists at the U20 athletics world championships. We had silver and bronzes. Then in 2016, Neeraj Chopra shook the world by not just winning gold, but shattering the javelin junior world record by several metres, throwing 86.48m (silver medalist was 80. something). 80-82m was the typical junior throwing limit. Then Chopra comes in and breaks that barrier by a ridiculous 5m.

Now it's Hima Das' turn to light up the 2018 event. These are clear signs of an upswing in athletic prowess in the younger generation. Chopra is already one of the major stars on the international stage, as Asian and Commonwealth champion, having increased his record to 87.5m recently.

After seeing the video clip it seems to me she has potential even in 100m and 200m. She needs to work on the slow start in 400m.

I think she needs to focus, she is way too slender for the 100m/200m
you need serious muscle mass for those events... which the indian build doesn't naturally provide compared to black people

I thought the black girl would win easily, around the bend. Then Ms Das engages the afterburners of the Tumansky turbojets on her Foxbat and finishes 5m ahead of the pack

Neeraj Chopra's world junior record breaking performance in the 2016 U20 world championship javelin throw is even more stark today, since the latest winner threw 75m. Chopra threw 86.48m to win 2 years ago. Too bad we don't have any more young javelin throwers capable of close to 80m, because there was another gold there for us to pick up.

Tejaswin Sankar would have won too in high jump if he was not injured.

Sindhu has lost. This is the 7th final she has lost. Both she and coaching staff looks confused on what to do. This time she attacked but was dogged by inaccuracy.

She needs to work with a good sports psychologist and fix her mindset

It's been my contention since before Rio 2016 that she needs a mindset reboot when it comes to playing finals. She's going to be an eternal #2 if she doesn't step away and fix the demons in her mind. Rankings are useless for posterity. We need players with big titles on the big stage.

If we look in last 5 Olympics then with 85.17 meter , podium finish is kind of sure but to get the gold medal i think he should try to hit 88-90 meter mark.

Yes, Neeraj is in that zone where his normal performance is good enough to win Asian and commonwealth titles (which he already holds) and assorted European ones like this, probably medal at world level, but not enough to get world level gold yet . He only threw 85m at CWG but still won by several meters .

His best is 87.5m . 85m is his normal effort level . If he can up his normal throws to 87 and his best to 88-90 he will be a strong world level medal contender . Very much within possibility to accomplish with the right training . He is still only 20, and is the youngest top level javelin thrower. He has three Olympics to realistically contend to win a medal in .

Cricket is not included anymore in the Asian games.

India:England 1-1 draw. Defensive error in last qtr. Otherwise they would have won. I am seeing women's hockey after a long time. They have improved in skills and fitness but are still slower than the Europeans. We have to see if they can last a whole tournament. Hope they can finish well and improve their ranking.
