India lost. Out of AFC cup. I think they played a good defensive match today but there was no attack. I think it is psychological specially after loosing a winning match against UAE and with more exposure and better players things can improve.

A long long way to go. Passing the ball needs to improve by a lot, it seems to be all over the place now. And there seems to be some reluctance in keeping the ball with our side and working towards the goal, our players are too quick to try to pass it on via long shots, and invariably to a Bahraini player. The contrast to the Bahraini side was striking, to say the least. For a moment, I was left wondering if this was the same side that beat Thailand last week?

Anyway, back to regular programming, second ODI tomorrow.

Only 2 players in this team are good. Sunil Chetri, Sandesh Jhingan. We need to find better players. Also energy level in this match was low. Suggests that fitness at this level is still low in that they are not sustained in a tournament.

Too bad. But the Pygmalion Effect will hopefully help the team - they'll do well as they keep being expected to do well. First time ever that I even cared about AFC Cup.

They played like excited rookies. I hope they'll grow significantly from this point.

any chance of some of the team being rotated through clubs in asia or south America rather than Europe? might be easier from a money perspective to get some of the boys in there than in the more lucrative markets

guys, let's not dump on the players for one bad match. please check out the video of the highlights against UAE I posted in last page . this was the same bunch of players that played superbly against a much higher ranked team. or even the amazing finish in match 1.

clearly, the fitness and recovery is the issue here. not anything else.

Exactly!! Sports like Hockey and football need a bigger pool of players. Our hockey team has 50 probables out of which at least 16-17 are sent to each match and rotated. Football needs to be similar number of core probables.

Abhinav Shaw became the youngest gold medallist at the Khelo India Youth Games when he teamedup with Mehuli Ghosh to help West Bengal win the 10m air-rifle mixed team event in Pune on Sunday. The 10-year-old from Asansol raised his game enough in the final to ensure Mehuli Ghosh's classy display would not result in any medal other than her second gold, a media release issued here said. The sixth-standard student had to bide his time to get on the range and display his talent, not being among the 16 shooters chosen to compete in the individual events in either Junior (under-21) and Youth (under-17) categories. He was not about to let it go. He dealt with the qualification and the final with a calm that would be the hallmark of any marksman.

The pint-sized but hugely talented young star made his team-mate, state and parents proud. A shy lad, embracing quiet, he has taken rapid strides in the direction his father Rupesh and coach Joydeep Karmakar, who missed Olympic bronze in 2012, have chosen for him. It was clear that the Karmakar-trainees complemented one another well. In the final, where each series has a time limit, Mehuli decided to let her young teammate take the first crack.

Delhi's judokas and swimmers and Haryana's wrestlers chased Maharashtra hard in the medals race as the battle for overall supremacy gathered momentum in the Khelo India Youth Games on Saturday.

Maharashtra, who started the day with a lead of eight gold medals over second placed Delhi, now have 41 gold medals, having picked up nine on Saturday. They also have 33 silver and 42 bronze for a total of 116 medals, a media release issued here said. Maharashtra still hang on to the top position, while Delhi are on their heels with 33 gold, 23 silver and 27 bronze medals at a total of 83. Haryana have 29 gold, 29 silver and 32 bronze - total 90 medals. Of the total of 36 teams, from 29 states and 7 Union Territories, 28 have managed to get themselves on the medals tally.

In the day, Haryana continued their domination in wrestling as they added eight more gold and took their tally from the sport to 24 as wrestling came to an end. Haryana's total picking from wrestling was 58 medals in the four sections. Delhi judokas once again basked in glory, grabbing three gold medals out of the eight on the cards on Saturday and their tally of gold from Judo is now nine.

In shooting, Manavaditya Singh Rathore, son of Sports Minister Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore, gathered himself after an uncertain start to blaze his way to the men's under-21 trap shooting gold medal.

It will be good to have timing records in the various races in athletics and swimming for both under-17 and under-21 for comparative purposes. Also they should include cycling at some point. It will help built velodromes which we have very few.

I hope this extends to bench strength that enables success at the Chess Olympiad. For a country with so much growth in the sport, we do relatively poorly in this event - a grand total of one bronze .

Saina has won a Super Series title after a long long time. She won the Indonesia masters after Marin retired injured. Hope this win gives Saina more confidence for a comeback. She is only 28 although it seems she has been there for ever. Her game is looking good the way she played the semis.
