Meanwhile on the lighter side, an item from Cambridge, MA (Home of MIT) in Good Clean Tech..
Cambridge Park Powers Lamp With Dog ...
Developed in conjunction with MIT and the city of Cambridge, the system consists of a "methane digester" located in a local park. Dog owners simply pick up after their pet using a biodegradable bag and then throw it into the machine...... then broken down by anaerobic bacteria, which creates the methane gas used to power the lamp.

Why no one is thinking of tapping enery between gravitation force and magnetic polar repulsion energy. I have seen some clocks in India working on that sort of tension to keep it running! Being a PG in Physics make me to think strangely.

Green jobs for millions

http://cleantechnica.com/2010/10/01/gre ... le-energy/

India’s ministry of New and Renewable Energy is working on a proposal to start several diploma and technical training courses in renewable energy specifically in solar energy systems. The ministry feels that there would be tremendous demand for skilled technicians as several project developers would launch their solar energy plants and other renewable energy power plants in the near future.

The ministry recently gave approvals to the first projects of the National Solar Mission which would make India the leading solar energy power generator by 2022.

Janab Amber G,

We have been doing something similar for decades now, with our gobar gas plants, to locally produce cooking gas in many our rural homes in India.

It certainly doesn't require MIT type of inputs.

Some ambitious types were even generating electricity small time from gas powered generators. :)

^^^ From the first link
A perpetual motion device is a machine that continues to move indefinitely by itself without stopping. Therefore, it will produce a larger amount of energy than it consumes, which ultimately results in a surplus of energy for you to fully power your home with completely free electrical energy.

India Plugs into Low-Cost Solar Technology
http://www.voanews.com/english/news/Ind ... 71523.html

I wonder whether there can be a solar panel along the roadside of the National Highways from north India to South India which can create electricity for the road and can play a role of giving shadows for those who wish to cycle or walk alongside the road during the daytime. There are many pilgrims who walk sometimes to different temples and other destinations by walk.

Next generation of Young people in India will discover new things for the country and for the world and thus making India great! They will not be bothered about their religion nor about their identities.

India emerging key hub for wind turbines
India, with an installed wind generating capacity of 12,800 MW, is emerging as a major manufacturing hub of wind turbines. As of now, 17 manufacturers have a consolidated annual production capacity of 7,500 MW and nine new companies are expected to enter the Indian wind energy sector in the next one or two years. The annual wind turbine manufacturing capacity is likely to cross 17,000 MW by 2012-13, according to a background note on the wind energy industry, prepared for the Delhi International Renewable Energy Conference 2010 that got under way at Greater Noida here today.

The note, prepared for a session on “Wind energy: Leapfrogging into a new era”, says that Indian companies are exporting wind turbines and turbine blades to Europe, the US, Australia, China and Brazil. Some of the foreign companies with subsidiaries in India are sourcing more than 80 per cent of their components from Indian component manufacturers.

The Global Wind Energy Outlook 2010, prepared by the Global Wind Energy Council, estimates the installed capacity in India to reach 65,000 MW in the next 10 years, with investment of about $80 billion and employment of about 1,50,000 people.

joshvajon, i have seen a number of solar powered street light prototypes - each unit generates and captures its own power needs. unit costs still a little high, but certainly usable in indian context if manufacturing costs can be brought down through volume

koreans have created a model smart city where street lights go dim unless someone is walking on the pavement and then it brightens up around them and then dims again. reducing energy consumption and light pollution

yes it is true if we can use such technology to put on the lights onlywhen someone is walking. It is already there in many building in the West though sometimes one has to dance to get the lights on. Some innovative minds, research fellows and investments and strategic planners have to work together in this area in India. Such programmes will be succesful if there is a good coordination between some IIT researches or other university researchers in this area and also officials.

Solar energy in India has not got its due share. For a mostly hot country the potential can be increased manyfold and stress on fossil fuels can be greatly decreased. The govt. has not done enough but seems we are headed in the right direction.People will be producing electricity at home if proper incentives are provided. This can ease a lot of burden on the national grid.

Manish I agree with your point 150 %. I hope and wish this dream becomes a reality. It is essential to make it mandate for all the new houses to have a solar facilities ontherroof at least in the urban areas. Sometimes I think of Jeyalalitha stype of governance, in spite of her political inexperience, she makes sometimes good decisions and then make all the people to follow it. For example water preservation systems in all houses. If people did not do this they ended up paying extra taxes or fines. Everyone did and so Tamil Nadu underground water level went up a lot and UNDP praised her actions on this. IT would be interesting to get some leaders like this to make quick decisions and immediately make people to implement this - such as a solar roof on the house tops with a subsidised solar cells. I give this as an example. Please be not carried away with the politics of the story!! :P

Patola to power: Patan shines again
Known as the home of Patola , one of finest hand woven sarees produced in the world, Patan, a historic city in North Gujarat, is also powering its way ahead to become a hub of solar power generation. As many as 16 solar power companies will set up their power plants in solar park being developed at Charanka village in Patan district.

Gujarat government on Thursday launched Asia's first ever solar park at Charanka, which is barely 16 km away from the Pakistan border. The solar park, the first of its kind in the country, will house solar power generation capacities worth 500 Mw by different individual companies that will bring investments worth more than Rs 7,500 crore in the park.
The Gujarat solar power park, which is also named Swarnim Surya Tirth by the chief minister, is spread over 2000 hectares of land. Out of this about 1000 hectares is the government waste land, while approximately 1000 hectares is private land, which will be acquired as and when required, a top government official informed.
(not gandhi nehru family name  )
Some of the other allottees that will set up power plants at the park include, GMR Gujarat Solar Power Pvt Ltd (25 MW), Sun Edison Energy India Ltd (25 MW), Alex Astral Power Pvt Ltd (25 MW), Roha Energy Pvt Ltd (25 MW), Emami Cement Ltd (10 MW), Azure Power (5 MW) among others.
India has lot of sunshine, hope we do utilise it in a grand scale. will reduce our dependence on oil from middle east.

India aims huge renewable power
There has been announcement by government of India that it expects renewable power generation capacity to be determined with 72,400 megawatt by 2022 which almost 4 times more compared to 17 gw at present.
At present, the country has a capacity of 150 gw where 17 gw or 11.3% is from the renewable. To achieve this latest target the country must produce 55 gw in 12 years where the present rate is about 2.2 gw. This target from the country is very less compared to the China’s target of 500 gw by 2020 which is total power capacity from renewable, hydel and thermal of 455 gw in India is expected. If the target is accomplished the renewable sector will contribute with 15.9% or 500 basis points said the ministry.
The contribution of renewable has been 4.4% of total electricity output in the country although having 11.3% capacity
The country is also waiting for the approval from the Cabinet for its new manufacturing policy that may affect the growth of China and make India one of the leaders of clean and green industries. Many green tech manufacturing have shifted to China after developing in the places like Europe, Japan, Malaysia and US during last 3-5 yrs.

German solar firms came up empty-handed in India in 2010
Solar industry expert Wolfgang Hummel of the Berlin Technology and Industry University presented a study which showed that German firms failed to win a single one of the 37 solar projects put up for tender by the Indian government this year
He said this is a crucial issue because in the future the German solar market - till now the world's largest thanks to the Renewable Energy Law (EEG) which promotes the solar sector - is going to start losing in importance, according to industry projections.
Last January India unveiled an ambitious solar programme aimed at building up the country's capacity from virtually zero to 20 gigawatts - the performance of about 20 nuclear plants - by 2022.
Hummel said 301 companies bid on the projects. Many were won by domestic Indian firms thanks to the unique local bid tender specifications. But Chinese firms, such as Suntech, also won a number of contracts.
The expert compared the Indian solar sector to that of the German machinery industry: 'The Indians want practical solutions at a favourable cost and not sophisticated expensive high-tech products.'
Unique Indian solutions for purely Indian problems.
