Smart cities - what would you like to see

Starting this thread for all our esteemed forum members to spell out what they think should make up the smart cities coming up

I can think of many but here is a quick start of 10.

1. Sewage system

2. Integrated traffic management.
3. Cashless merchants. (all electronic).
4. Dedicated bike lanes.
5. Police with electronic pads where they can pull the violator's information directly from their aadhar card and fine them right there with user having option to pay online for minor violations like vandalism, traffic, spitting/peeing/etc.
6. A dedicated contractor that picks up garbage daily and transport it to recycle (all garbage should be recycled) cans to be maintained.
7. Public toilets for usage with fee (5 rupees to clean them).
8. One park for at least 2 square km of residential/business/
9. Dedicated sports complex (not to be used by political parties or bollywood shows)
10. Local buses/metro/etc App for ipad, google so that people always know where the bus is.

I honestly don't know what is a smart city, what is the roadmap, what is the mechanism, success criteria, who owns the installations/features/workflows after done..

I see some reports with some cities selected and some funds allotted. That's about it.

I would like to see smart people first of all. Other things will follow.

Basic things.
- Properly delineated sewage & water channels
- Scalable and can be maintained with proper monitoring without some poor guy having to crawl through muck
- Proper water & sewage treatment
-Water conservation methods again, integrated well into points above
- Electricity generation/regeneration systems
- Again, proper monitoring & control with anti-tamper mechanisms
- Buildings with proper access control & environmental features...
- Proper transport mechanisms for public, scaled for larger populations and growth potential. Avoiding maximal personal vehicle usage
- Comms and optics for transports above for security
- Regularly placed, well maintained infra for security, EMS and firemen/ responders
- Hospitals located in specific zones with strict zoning restrictions x km around to avoid noise, traffic hazard etc

List goes on and on... heck, forget SMART cities, I'd like to see a basic properly planned and maintained city for once. Rest can follow later.

>Solid Waste Recycling Systems (bio Degradable Waste Converted to Compost /Manure)
>Point of Generation Liquid/Sewage Waste recycling System (Treatment to high Standard, so that it can be used for flushing and for cooling water use)
>Better public/shared transport networks rather than private transport, look seriously at drone/UAV based flying taxis
>Ecological sensitive Design... atleast 20 Kg living plants (autotrophs) for every 1 Kg Animal (heterotrophs) in urban areas
>Green Roofs and Living green cladding... all facades/sunlight exposed areas to be designed to enable plant colonization
>3D urban planning... thought should be given to mixed use high rises with functional areas vertically delineated within a building
>Ziplines, ropeways and skywalks connecting various buildings at same Z, Horizontal traverse system rather than the present method of going to road level and then taking transit to another location.

Key aspects of a smart city - from IBM
For me the biggest need is the utility services. They must use the funds to improve sewage treatment, recycling, underground drainage, garbage disposal. A clean city would lead to smarter citizens

Good observation.

Singapore is perhaps the leader in "smart"ness - in all respects. Essentially because of the political system, financial power and the size of the city-state. Singapore has had a planned, dedicated process in place for about 5 years now. Here is a space to follow. Their (and the general) definition of "smart cities":

There's a major misconception in India as to what a so-called smart city is.Since most cities have appalling basic services,water,drainage,sewerage systems,electricity,etc. improvements are supposedly "smart. These are par for the course in developed nations,even semi-developed nations.Take Sri Lanka for instance.Colombo is cleaner than London,has little garbage problems and despite heavy rainfall seldom do you see roads flooded.All service lines/ utilities are underground,all roads have pavements,
abundant gardens for the public,helmets cumpolsury for all two-wheelers,both rider and pillion with no multi-passr. ,3 on a bike normal practice as in India.

Effective transportation systems; both local and regional is what makes many EU cities smarter.Good public transportation systems reduce pvt. autos/cars on the road.Preserving one's Arch. / urban heritage essential for both commercial and historical reasons.?
