Indian politicians perhaps need to stay out of India.

I agree with the comment on the PM's statement - just heard part of it on CNN. India needs a new leadership, a new thinking.

Just looking at the map I am amazed that the terrorists could not just plan, but execute it.

Brit For Sec reporting that he talked with Paki PM/Prez and they stated that they will cooperate very closely with India!!!!!!!!!!!! Oh yeah. IMHO, nothing less than handing over LeT leaders will make this worth the while.

The male journalist interviewing that terrorist was almost begging for answers. The female interviewer was slightly better. WTF are the asking silly questions for?

And why is the media allowing the terrorist to parrot their talking points? The terrorist talked like as if he was an Indian.

Israeli hostages in Mumbai may be dead: Israel F M

Post by Amitava »

Senior officials at Israel's Foreign Ministry said Thursday that the hostages held by terrorists at the Chabad headquarters in Mumbai may be dead, as the gunmen holed up at the center urged the Indian government to negotiate with them over the hostages' release.

The remarks came as ongoing terror attacks at ten different locations across Mumbai left at least 125 people dead and hundreds wounded.

According to reports from Mumbai, Indian commandos had circled the Chabad center, where at least eight hostages were believed to be held, and were reportedly preparing to storm the building in hopes of releasing the hostages.

Earlier Thursday, the family of the Chabad rabbi held hostage by the terrorists said that the captives were unconscious.

One of the terrorists holed up at the Chabad headquarters phoned an Indian television channel to say he was prepared to free his hostages if the government agreed to talks.

The family of Rabbi Gavriel Holtzberg and his wife, Rivki, said they knew nothing beyond reports that the couple's 2-year-old son had been rescued, but eight people in the building were unconscious. The cook at the Jewish center fled the building, holding Moishe Holtzberg in her arms.

"Ask the government to talk to us and we will release the hostages," the militant, identified by the India TV channel as Imran, said, speaking in Urdu in what sounded like a Kashmiri accent.

"Are you aware how many people have been killed in Kashmir? Are you aware how many of them have been killed in Kashmir this week?" he said.

Between 20 to 30 Israelis were also reported to be among the dozens of hostages held by gunmen at the Trident-Oberoi hotel in a separate siege in the city.

Israel's Foreign Ministry spokesman Yigal Palmor said later Thursday "we know that there are Israelis, certainly in the Chabad center and very probably in the Trident hotel."

He went on to say that the Israeli Consulate-General in Mumbai did not have a confirmed number of Israeli hostages, but added that according to various reports, the number ranged from 10 to 14 Israelis.

"At the hotel we don't know. There could be a handful," he added.

He said the Israeli authorities also had no official confirmation that Rabbi Holtzberg and his wife were among the hostages, but added "it's very probable because he was inside the house and we don't know that he came out of the house."

Commandos and militants were battling at that hotel, and at the luxury Taj Mahal Hotel, where scores of people were still trapped.

Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni spoke on Thursday morning with the Israeli consul-general in Mumbai, Orna Sagiv.

Livni received an update of the latest on the situation, though at this time there is no word on whether any Israelis are among the dead or wounded. The Israeli mission is trying to reach all Israeli nationals who are known to be visiting the city.

Indian commando Amit Tiwari said a woman and a child had been released from the Chabad house by mid-morning Thursday, and one of the gunmen had been killed, but at least four armed men remained in the building.

Chabad began to express concern for the welfare of the Holtzbergs, its representatives in Mumbai, shortly after the attacks were launched. Holtzberg holds an American passport and his wife is an Israeli citzen from Afula.

"The Israeli Consulate was in touch with Holtzberg, but the line was cut in middle of the conversation," according to the Chabad Web site. "No further contact has since been established."

The last gunfire around Chabad House in downtown Mumbai was heard around 8 A.M., and a crowd had gathered around the scene of what appeared to be a stand-off.

"It is not clear what the gunmen want," Tiwari said.

Members of the Israeli consulate staff are also conducting searches in Mumbai hospitals for injured or missing Israelis, Israel Radio reported.

Chabad said its personnel are "working closely with the Israeli Foreign Ministry and the U.S. government" to locate missing persons in the area of the Chabad House.

Mumbai's Chabad House is said to be a popular stop for Israeli tourists. The Holtzbergs offer visitors a host of programs, including providing kosher food.

What he means was that he was pretending to be an Indian. Listen carefully, you can see it too.

But it was pretty obvious that he was a Pakjabi, in fact his accent and speaking style was exactly t he same as Musharrador.

Now the media is giving air time to terrorists, who are in the middle of killing people. I am not sure, whether this is really a good policy.

On the other hand, it has become very clear who these people are: Pakistani Nationals coming to India and terrorizing people here.

There is absolutely no need now to keep on talking to Pakistan. For years India has been telling Pakistanis to close down these terrorism camps, and they haven't done it. Why hasn't Hafiz Muhammad Saeed been extradited to India in all these years.

Besides attacking these terror hubs, the price of this must be a minimum of 'Northern Areas'. Either TSP pays it willingly or India extracts that price. No more talks! There is going to be no peace!

Even if the terrorists wanted India to barge in into Pakistan, thereby avoiding its natural break-up by the Pushtuns/Taliban, it is time to give them their wish. The security Islamists in TSP may have become worried that too much of India-Pakistan peace was proving hurtful to Pakistani unity and stability. They are giving India an invitation, and I would suggest we take it.

We should give TTP maximum support for them to take down the Pakistani Army and snatch away Pushtunistan from Pakistan. We should give Americans maximum support to defang TSP of its nukes. We should give our Army maximum support to take away Northern Areas from Pakistan.

It is time to accelerate the break-up of Pakistan. Natural break-up may take too long.

Guys, there was a story on air for just a few minutes and then it was pulled. It talked about a female editor in the Times of India who was inside the Taj (Oberoi?) and co-ordinated the attackers from there. She then reportedly disappeared. her. Anybody has any information? The media is obviously blacking out this news.

PM arrives in Mumbai. He is currently at JJ Hospital meeting the injured. LK Advani is also in town now. I counted 15 cars in the PM's motorcade before the camera panned elsewhere.

Ghose started asking if BJP will be not speak of disunity, and would BJP politicians be united with Mumbai and the country and not exploit the situation for electoral gains (Sardesai used those words too). Ravi started off by asking Ghose not to ask provoking questions and casting doubts on BJP. He said BJP and folks are thinking of Mumbaikars and do not want to raise and answer such divisive tactics. Ghose counters by saying BJP had used the Malegaon issue for political gains, and hence she is valid in raising this issue again. Ugly. Ravi says he and everyone knows her views on BJP. Smack. He persists that it is not the day to be divisive and BJP is thinking about Mumbaikars. Slap!

Regarding the terrorist interview (Thanks to Gurunandan for posting it):

I wonder how the journalists managed to contact the terrorist (or vice versa), in other words, how did they know this is a terrorist doing terror (genuinely curious here). The accent of the terrorist is a clear giveaway. The aam janta (common people) can listen to it and come to their own conclusions now. They dont have to rely on the government or an enquiry commission to tell them which area this person is local to. On the other hand, the GOI will set up an Enquiry Commission to thoroughly investigate this event and come out with a report of its findings, sometime in the next few years. The terrorist seemed to have the usual talking points, and even included Israel/Palestine in the first video.
