Well said Rahul, the west must now realise that they are also to blame for not going after the monsters who rule Pak.War with Pak to destroy its terrorist leadership is absolutely inevitabel,if not now, then soon.If the international community cannot or does not have the balls to do so,then India must deliver such a massive blow to Pak to castrate its military forever.Time to start planning for conflict against Pak,as imagine what if they had atatcked Tromobay and BAARC,as we are told that their recce outfit landed next to Trombay using the services of a local collaborator ?

The staff at the hotel seems to have behaved very well- calm, professional and smart. They probably saved another 100-200 lives!!

we had predicted the escapees would re-emerge if this be true.

the musalman areas have to be given fallujah treatment for this to finally reach a stable equilibrium. else be ready for one yahoo a day.

If one did not realise that there is a "War" going on,easily evident from the sheer carnage that has taken place and the utter inhumaity of the Pak terorists, despite some reports saying that these new reports of firing are merely "rumours",then one must be on some hallcuinatory dope.More firing at the Taj.

One lasting memory is that of the Taj's dome, proud and intact the morning after dspite the intense fire and damage to the hotel, which reminded one of that immortal photo of the dome St.Paul's Cathedral seen emerging out of the the smoke intact after one of the worst nights of the London Blitz in WW2.

I also heard that One TOI lady muslim editor is missing. She had gone to taj at around 11 PM last night. I don't know whether she was involved or not

Are you sure she is a Moslem?

To the best of my knowledge, she is a Sikh married to a Hindu.

Mumbai: Three gunshots have reportedly been fired at the GT Hospital near the Chatrapati Shivaji Terminus Station.

Some reports indicate that there has been firing near the Reserve Bank of India headquarters too.

However, Railway Police denied that there was any firing at the station. But all trains have been stopped.

Three young men have been reportedly arrested by the police from the GT Hospital. At the moment they are only suspected of involvement in terrorist activity.

There is no news about any casualties yet. The GT Hospital area has been cordoned off.

Several shops in the area have downed their shutters.

- These attacks are similar to the attacks conducted by Al Qaeda in Saudi Arabia 2003-06, and in Iraq during roughly the same period in terms of the profile of the targets, and the way in which the terrorists conducted themselves.

- One thing strikingly missing is the absence of suicide bombers - either with vests, or in vehicles. Possible explanation - they wanted to draw out the situation for as long as possible to maximise the domestic and international impact of the attacks, and didnt want to waste their very finite manpower.

- The reported seaborne 'commando'/fedayeen nature of this attack is reminicent of Fatah/DFLP/PFLP type attacks attempted on coastal Israeli cities from the mid 1970s until 1990. Most of those attacks failed because of a mix of advance intelligence, maritime surveillance, and rapid security response on the part of the Israeli state.

- Training and putting together a force of this size, and this well armed is no joke, particularly if they were inserted by sea.

- Overall many of the aspects of this attack suggest that somebody really, really wants to raise the stakes, dissatisfied by the impact of previous attacks. They are quite literally looking for trouble.

- The demographics of this group are of real importance. How many, if any are Indian citizens? When and where were they recruited, etc?

- This is largely speculation on my part, but this attack probably has two strategic goals - taking pressure off the tribal areas in Pakistan, and allowing the PA to shift its focus back to India by engineering an international crisis by creating irresistable pressure within India to act against Pakistan. In particular the seaborne nature of the attack, the bodies and personal effects of Pakistani jihadis in the heart of Mumbai, etc - its as if they want to paint a giant arrow back to Pakistan. This is similar to the attack on the Indian embassy in Kabul, or even the attack on the Marriott. Its aimed as much against Zardari as it is India. Musharraf is probably telling every one as usual that this wouldnt have happened on his watch.

The best possible outcome would be if India and the West were able to cooperate enough to force Zardari to face the challenge head on, to arrest, extradite, or at least try and convict serving members of the ISI involved in this, and fire Kayani while he's at it, all without any let up in pressure on the tribal areas.

Terrorists are coming in so easily through the sea. They could have as easily gone to Goa or some other place. The entire country is focused on Mumbai, hope the govt. is vigilant in other important cities of the country.

From what I can see on the videos of chaotic situation outside hotels and also reports the even the MARCOS do not have details of hotel layout, seems like the counter-siege by security forces were rushed. Does any one know if this is due to the fact that they already know these infidels are not interested in anything other than killing anyone in sight or poor C4I?
Othewise I would expect that we would see some form of "negotiation" by hostage rescue team while more inte was sought and the various commando teams had time to plan a detailed rescue attack.
