Live interview with NSG Chief General J K Dutta

Oberoi & Trident - fully cleaned - last 2 terrorists killed - said as of now 6 dead bodies (4 Indians, 2 foreigners) recovered - counting on, for any additional bodies. Sanitization of rooms in progress - NSG being withdrawn - General seen offering congrats to the commandos

2 left - Taj & Nariman

The unruly and vulgar scramble of the media persons when the gen came out has to be seen to be beleived. Its like a bunch of stray dogs fighting over scraps of food. The general got so pissed that he said that I can only speak if you shut up or something to that effect. And it was totally shameless that they asked dozens of questions about how many terrorists were dead, how many foreigners etc but not one single person asked how the NSG commandos are doing and if all of them are safe.

One can only imagine how a general having perhaps lost several of his brave soldiers feels having to deal with such a bunch of third-rate retards.

Im sorry but the average guy on the street has way more common sense and decency than most of the media I have seen covering this episode.

The only silver lining from this whole sordid incident is the absolutely exemplary performance of our SF and IA inspite of horrible odds stacked up against them (from the pigs to our own moronic grih mantri). No words can convey the pride we feel in their performance, and the gratitude we owe them for their actions.

At Opera House, eyewitnesses are reporting firing from a white coloured car which has four occupants.
they are firing at crowds.
It is spreading panic in the area and thus tel and cable channels have been shut down in Mumbai.
Way too many eyewitnesses from Mumbai are reporting this.
So it's not rumour.

The behaviour of the journos interviewing the Gen was despicable. "Fish Market" is what instantly came to mind. Reporting such serious news and instead of getting organised amongst themselves and asking proper questions, they shouted questions at the Gen and interrupted him as he was answering. I'm sure he isn't the sort of a person who likes getting interrupted when hes talking but he was pure pissed at the whole lot and refused to answer questions that had already been answered. Bloody bunch of nincompoops those journos were.

Absolutely Purush. The armed forces, NSG and the police have my eternal gratitude. They are definitely worlds apart from the hijda politico class and DDM.

Singha, SSridhar,

Yes, Zardari is the weak link here, but he has very few options available.

When the facts come out after this attack he will either have to be prepared to leave Pakistan in an internationally exposed position, with the PA brass behind him - in which case the lights will go out, and the wheat will run out, with obvious results for him, or he can act preemptively, and gain civilian power of a kind not seen since ZA Bhutto.

The fact is, the way things were going he had a reasonably good chance of winding up dead anyway - remember the Marriott - the Americans arent going to stop hitting the tribal areas, and the jihadis arent going to stop punishing those in Islamabad who are responsible.

This is an opportunity for India, the West and Zardari to align their interests, and focus on a common obstacle, the ISI, and the transnational jihadis.

Watch for a *serious* assassination attempt against Zardari in the battle of pre-emption.

- Re. criticism of the decision to launch a clearing operation. Time always allows CT teams to gather tactical intelligence and position forces, but that is only possible in situations where the terrorists are willing to negotiate, either for propaganda purposes, or because they hope they can trade prisoners for a way out. While it may turn out later that some of them may have flagged when broken up, and been willing to negotiate, at this point it seems as if it was conceived as a straight fedayeen operation, in which case the longer you wait, the more civilians will be killed.

As for the quality of co-ordination at higher levels in terms of command and control and information sharing between all the different elements - IN, IA, state police, NSG, etc, much more will emerge in the days to come.

Ive always wondered why Mumbai didnt have a company of NSG permanently stationed, with at least one platoon on permanent alert given how often its been hit.

Manmohan Singh talks to Yousuf Raza Gilani over phone.
India asks him to send ISI cheif to New Delhi to give information on these attackers

Don't know weather to be happy or to cry at the absolute futility of this.

TimesNow is reporting a PTI News report from Pakistan:

Manmohan Singh has talked to Gilani to send ISI Chief to New Delhi to explain Mumbai Terror Attacks. TimesNow is saying this is a diplomatic offensive and 'why not'?

India should have broken all communications with Pakistan and made them pee in their pants.

ISI Chief should be skinned on his visit.

The route of the terrorists

The terrorists told interrogators that 12 of them had left in a merchant vessel from the port city of Karachi, which was on its way to Vietnam, from which they got down and rowed 10 nautical miles into Indian waters up to Gateway of India.

The dozen people split into at least five groups that created havoc in five star hotels -- Taj and Trident (Oberoi).

One terrorist (Possibly more) moving from the ground floor to the first floor at the Taj. He is throwing grenades. Times Now is showing NSG commandos are moving into position inside and outside. All LIVE

I do think India is going to hold the isi/jehadi cheif directly responsible.

If he does not do jack about it, the next place the commandos are going to be dropping in on is his place of residence regardless of where in the world he is.

7 more explosions at Taj, the pig is still being harassed by NSG. Looks like he might hold some valuable information or could he be the leader of the group ?

Why cant they flush the room with sleeping gas or pepper gas ? Not that I am advising NSG on what to do ? Just an abdul frustrated with this situation.

Out of concern for the hostages. Sleeping gas/pepper sprays can be very dangerous if inhaled in excessive quantity especially for elderly and children. Besides, that might just make the terrorist go all-out and start killing the hostages.
