A very horrific tragedy for Bharat, also at a personal level for me. I feel devastated. Om shanti to the deceased and may their families get the strength to deal with this irreparable loss. Gen Rawat has left very big shoes to fill.

From General Ved Prakash Malik, former COAS.

Deeply shocked and anguished by the tragic news of helicopter crash in which Gen Bipin Rawat, Mrs Rawat and 11 other soldiers were lost. Bipin had impeccable soldierly qualities, military knowledge & experience for the CDS post. Determined, articulate & straightforward...

https://twitter.com/Vedmalik1/status/14 ... 39747?s=20 ----> 2/3 ...in pursuing what he believed in. He pursued integration & jointness amongst Armed Forces-his primary responsibility-& other defence reforms with great vigour. He & Madhulika made a charming, amiable, very social couple. Their untimely death is an irreparable...

Deeply saddened to hear about the demise of CDS Gen Bipin Rawat, his wife, and 11 other Armed Forces personnel in the accident.

We think of their families, in this time of tragedy and loss.

It's also a huge loss to the nation.

The nation will always be grateful to Gen.Rawat for his service to the nation.

Om Shanti.

We do have a Vice CDS - right now that office is being held by Air Marshal Balabhadra Radha Krishna who took over that post on 30 Sept 2021. He is the third officer to hold that title. The first VCDS was Vice Admiral (now Admiral and CNS) Radhakrishnan Hari Kumar, the next was Vice Admiral Atul Kumar Jain and now Air Marshal BR Krishna.

Here is the link ---> https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Balabhadra_Radha_Krishna

Lets not speculate on who the next CDS will be. Let the Govt announce it.

Another (more important) reason to not speculate is to respect the memory of General Bipin Rawat.

Absolutely shocking. How can these things happen? Targeting the best, brightest, and bravest leadership of our armed forces is what the enemy would attempt to do in a decapitation strike. Apparently we are capable of inflicting such a strike on ourselves.

Don't like to speculate but I've flown the Mi17 1Vs and they are among the sturdiest helicopters flying around the world, the helicopter was piloted by very experienced aircrew.Every angle needs to be deeply investigated including the airbase and personnel of AFS Sulur @IAF_MCC

Rudradev-ji, initial reports are stating that the helicopter descended for better visibility due to heavy fog. In the process of descent, the helicopter either hit a high tension wire or a tree. The Court of Inquiry will clarify.

The officer piloting the chopper was the CO of the helicopter unit. The pilots who transport command and flag officers are the best and brightest. It is a sad day for India.

How many such heli crashes happen in other countries... can't bear to hear usual reasons like weather, bad luck, visibility, either we have all modcons like weather radars or better not to use such for VVIPs. Hope they investigate all angles including base personnel

I am sad at the passing away of CDS Gen. Bipin Rawat when Tibeten border is at flashpoint against Chinese, and military reorganization metamorphosis is not yet complete.

But Bharat must soldier on....

My salute and shraddanjali to the departed Veer Yoddha Gen Rawat, and all other officers & officials in the draft.

Wishing Gp Capt Varun Singh speedy recovery.

Please understand this tweet below....

https://twitter.com/ColSanjayPande/stat ... 31812?s=20 ----> Armed Forces have age old drills for handling fatal casualties. They first inform the Next of Kin. It’s NOT important that you know about the state of on board. To YOU it’s ‘excitement’ to Next of Kin, it’s life changing tragedy.

Om Shanti to all the crash victims.

Our deepest condolences to all their near and dear ones.

We lost a very forthright and straight talking leader yesterday. Gen Rawat was the right man to handle our nation's myriad defence challenges in conjunction with Modi-ji, Parrikar-ji, and Doval-ji. All of them unquestionable patriots and men with the right intent, right thought process, and right action. The rest is of course the will of God.

We are fortunate to have witnessed them at the helm for the last few years. Let us be grateful for what they have achieved within their allotted timeframes. One can only wish for the opportunity to be of similar service. Jai Hind.

the guy in the video is asking "odan-ji-ducha" in tamil - is it broken? the location looks like some hilly terrain - if you notice the train track - it looks like narrow gauge.

0) There is heavy fog with near zero visibility where the helicopter is flying
1) The normal helicopter sound changes to a grating sound, which makes it sound like an impact
2) Guy in the video asks "What happened? Did it break?" --> not sure what prompted him to pop that question automatically as if that's the most natural explanation
3) The guy who is recording the video says "Amam" (Yes) in an even tone, as if he is sure
4) Two of the girls can be seen smiling (or barely suppressing a smile). One of them is wearing a purdah

Maybe just tourists recording a helicopter. But surprised to see no concern/shock/surprise in their faces when they suspected that the helicopter got broken up
