Oman army all set to use India’s INSAS rifles
The indigenously built rifle was sent to Muscat in March and is currently undergoing trial for the Oman army.
“Oman has informed us that the rifles have successfully passed the trial run. INSAS will, in all likelihood, be the standard assault rifle of the Royal Oman Army,” said an OFB deputy director-rank official, who spoke on condition of anonymity as he is not authorised to speak to the media.
The rifles were subjected to endurance tests for extreme desert temperatures and sandstorms and performed well in both conditions, sources in OFB and Ministry of Defence told Hindustan Times.
The weapon has been sent as part of the India-Oman comprehensive defence agreement of 2003.
“If a deal is struck with Oman, the quantity and size of the deal will not be made public,” said Major General V.K. Narula, additional director general (public relations) of the Indian Army.

NDF purchases first Indian helicopter
THE Namibian Defence Force (NDF) will soon see its first Indian-manufactured military helicopter, a Cheetah Utility Chopper, on local soil, after it was handed over to Defence Minister Charles Namoloh at the Aero India 2011 Air Show in Bangalore on Wednesday.

The Cheetah is the first of three helicopters included in a N$71,5 million deal signed between the NDF and the India’s aerospace company Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) in 2009.
The two remaining helicopters, Chetak helicopters, will be delivered to Namibia in June this year.
Namoloh told The Namibian yesterday that the Namibian Government had bought the helicopters to replace the NDF helicopters that had crashed in the Democratic Republic of Congo during the peacekeeping mission in that country.
“Namibia is buying these helicopters because it is satisfied with their quality based on previous experience it has using them since 1994,” Namoloh said.
Indian news sources stated that ground support and ground handling equipment, plus an initial set of spares, will accompany the delivery. The Indian company will also assist in the training of Namibian pilots and ground crew, HAL managing director Soundara Rajan was reported as saying at the handover ceremony.
“Helicopters are in high demand in Namibia. Apart from catering for security needs of the country, they will be used as usual to assist civil authorities in peacetime, in operations for emergencies such as flood and drought relief, and transportation for both military and civil purposes,” the minister said.

Pipavav Wins Order for 2 OPVs from a West African Nation for $215 Million
Pipavav Defence and Offshore Engineering Co. Ltd said on Monday that it received an order from a West African client to build two offshore patrol vessels worth a combined Rs. 1,192 crore, marking its first international naval contract.

The contract value would go up to Rs. 2,504 crore if the client exercises an option for two more similar ships, Pipavav Defence said in a filing to the Mumbai Stock Exchange.

In 2011, India’s defence ministry had placed orders with Pipavav for five similar offshore patrol vessels.

“One of the thrust areas of the company is to focus on foreign military sales to friendly countries,” a company spokesman said, adding that it was negotiating an order for four so-called corvette type warships with a global company.

In July, Pipavav Defence signed a shareholders agreement with state-run shipbuilder Mazagon Dock Ltd for jointly constructing surface warships for the Indian Navy.
Looks like Angola with Budget $3.75 Billion or Maybe Nigeria Budget $1.75 Billion.

They are already bidding for 2 new frigates. The tender is open. They figured out that second hand ship maintenance is more costly than new builds.

I think the question is not so much if Philippines has the money

http://online.wsj.com/news/articles/SB1 ... 0687305548

but whether we will meet the technical bid, delivery timelines, and if it is a "true" tender, be L1. Shipyards all over the world are running at idle, and ours seem to have capacity bottlenecks.

Having established a coastal surveillance radar system for two countries, BEL is interacting with Ministry of External Affairs on a regular basis for supply of similar systems to other friendly nations. On the frontline of high-technology manufacture for defence applications, BEL has woken up to stiff competition from highly capable private sector firms that stand to gain similarly from the windfall of inbound orders and technology on the offsets wave. BEL is also working to expand its export catalogue. Under the new 'Make In India' philosophy rolled out by the government, the DPSU has decided to ramp up internal R&D efforts and fund advanced systems internally in a bigger way than ever before, instead of depending solely on the DRDO and allied agencies. The resulting systems could include radars and sensors, man portable sensors and communications devices, encrypted communications equipment for indigenous and foreign aircraft and new generation warning systems.

Which two countries did we export coastal radars to ?

India eyes defence export market with radars
India, the largest importer of weapons and military equipment in the world, is on the verge of increasing its exports and looking at indigenously produced electronic surveillance systems and airborne radars as a lead option.

Several countries have shown interest and the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) is ready to work at the systems and radars. It will try to match China, which figures among the top five exporters of weapons and military equipment.

DRDO’s Director General and Secretary (Defence Research) Dr S Christopher said: “We have the potential to export. There is scope for surveillance systems. It is very much within our limits to export the equipment”. He was appointed to head the DRDO on May 28 this year.

Dr Christopher, who has been associated with indigenously developed airborne early warning systems (AEWS), said South American countries and even a country in south-east Asia were interested in radars mounted on planes to capture images from deep inside enemy territory.

“We must change the notion that we do not have a potential to export. The present government is very positive and supporting us”, he said. “We have to now see which countries we could sell the equipment. The export versions have to be of ultimate quality with some sensitive elements,” Dr Christopher said.

In March this year, the Sweden-based think-tank Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI), in its assessment for 2010-2014 titled ‘Trends in international arms transfers’, said India had emerged as the world’s largest buyer of weapons and military equipment, accounting for some 15% of all such international imports.

According to the SIPRI report, China is the third largest importer and also the exporter of weapons ahead of traditional manufacturers Germany, France and UK. Its biggest benefactors are Pakistan, Bangladesh and Burma — all having a shared boundary with India — accounted for 68% of Beijing’s exports.

Since 2011, India has exported defence equipment to the tune of Rs 1,812 crore. Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar had informed Parliament in November 2014.
About time !!! We have been capable for quite some years now in terms of exporting defence equipments but that will mean hurting gora interests which the italian mafia wouldn't have let happen.

Import-dependent India exported defence equipment to 22 countries in one year
At a time when close to 70 per cent of India’s military hardware requirement is import-dependent and Make in India is being pushed for balancing out this huge gap in import-export ratio, notably, in the last one year, India exported defence equipment to 22 countries, including to the US, the UK, Israel and Russia.

At a time when close to 70 per cent of India’s military hardware requirement is import-dependent and Make in India is being pushed for balancing out this huge gap in import-export ratio, notably, in the last one year, India exported defence equipment to 22 countries, including to the US, the UK, Israel and Russia.

While India exported forging equipment, electronic assemblies, flight control panels to the US, it sold transmitting tubes to the UK and MIG and Sukhoi 30 aircraft spares and services to Russia.

Major exports from India included Cheetal helicopters to Afghanistan, Dhruv helicopters and bulletproof jackets to Nepal, Sukhoi 30 avionics and MIG spares to Malaysia, offshore petrol vessels and ammunition to Mauritius and Jaguar aircraft spares and services to Oman.

Officials at the MoD said that even though the export from India was only to the tune of Rs 669.88 crore in 2014-15, the government has simplified and streamlined the no objection certificate (NoC) processes to encourage Defence Public Sector Undertakings (DPSUs), Ordnance Factory Board (OFB) and private sector companies to apply for export orders.

The Indian domestic defence industry has been lobbying with the MoD to help them explore international markets and also wants to avail the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) labs and other state-run facilities for R&D, testing and making prototypes. Some of the products that Indian firms are eyeing to have a long term international markets for are Airborne Radar systems, missile systems, naval systems, naval ships, armoured protected vehicles and others.

A Defence Export Steering Committee at MoD frames policy and procedural issues related to defence exports, An official said that MoD is constantly working with the ministry of external affairs (MEA) to explore new avenues for export. It is the MEA that maintains a negative list of countries (like Pakistan) for defence exports and its views are factored mandatorily before any export contract is given approval.

Meanwhile, defence minister Manohar Parrikar on Tuesday told parliament that India's defence exports since 2010 stood at Rs 2,600 crore.

India’s defence imports 40 times its export basket
Rajat Pandit, TNN | Nov 29, 2014,
Parikar

Defence minister Manohar Parrikar has told Parliament that the total expenditure on “direct payments to foreign vendors for capital acquisitions” for the Army, Navy and IAF during the last five years stood at Rs 1,03,535 crore.
NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi may want India to start exporting weapons in a major way, instead of importing them in large numbers, but it will take a lot of doing. Latest figures show India's arms imports are a staggering 40 times the size of its exports, and will remain so for the foreseeable future.

Defence minister Manohar Parrikar has told Parliament that the total expenditure on "direct payments to foreign vendors for capital acquisitions" for the Army, Navy and IAF during the last five years stood at Rs 1,03,535 crore ($16.72 billion).

In sharp contrast, as per a written reply in Lok Sabha on Friday, the five defence PSUs, four shipyards and 39 ordnance factories as well as the private sector, all put together managed to export defence equipment worth just a paltry Rs 1,644 crore in the last three years. The figure in the first six months of the ongoing fiscal stands at just Rs 167 crore.

Indian Companies Stake Claim to African Vehicle Market
GABORONE, Botswana — Indian military vehicle manufacturers have joined the scramble for the African defense market with Tata Motors and Ashok Leyland delivering nearly 1,200 vehicles to at least six African armies between February and July.

In July, Ashok Leyland delivered 633 out of an order of 670 troop carriers, buses, transport trucks, water tankers, fuel tankers, fire-tenders, ambulances and light commercial vehicles ordered by the Zimbabwe Defense Forces late last year. The equipment was acquired at a cost of US $50 million secured from India's Exim Bank.

A Zimbabwean government official who declined to be identified told the privately owned Zimbabwe Independent business weekly that Ashok Leyland will also provide training for Zimbabwean technical staff in vehicle operation and maintenance.

“The vehicles, which include military tankers, trucks and buses, have been delivered and are being kept at the Zimbabwe National Army Ordnance Supply Depot in Harare pending distribution to various Army bases around the country," said the official.

He said the vehicles were ordered under cover of the Ministry of Hospitality and Tourism to avoid a political backlash from opposition and civil rights groups who have protested against the prioritization of military acquisitions in a country with pressing social and economic problems.

The Army declined to comment on the delivery, but Hospitality and Tourism Minister Walter Mzembi confirmed it, saying some of the vehicles will be used to promote GABORONE, Botswana — Indian military vehicle manufacturers have joined the scramble for the African defense market with Tata Motors and Ashok Leyland delivering nearly 1,200 vehicles to at least six African armies between February and July.

Reliance Defence to build warships with Abu Dhabi major

This Anil Ambani venture likely to open up opportunities worth 10,000 crore

Anil Ambani-backed Reliance Defence Ltd has entered into a pact with Abu Dhabi Ship Building (ADSB) to construct warships such as frigates and destroyers for the Persian Gulf nations.

The two companies are in the process of incorporating a joint venture, which will encompass both construction of new naval vessels as well as maintenance and refit opportunities of existing commercial and naval vessels in the region over the next ten years. This venture is expected to open up opportunities worth ₹10,000 crore, according to one industry estimate.

ADSB is recognised as the only shipyard with considerable naval and military shipbuilding experience in the region. It is 40 per cent owned by Mubadala, 10 per cent by Abu Dhabi’s government and 50 per cent publicly traded on the UAE’s stock exchange.

Reliance Defence has been making aggressive moves in this segment over the last six months. In March, Reliance acquired a controlling stake in Pipavav Defence and Offshore Engineering Company for ₹819 crore. The Reliance-Pipavav combine has bagged three defence-related contracts from Russian companies, including a deal to manufacture 200 Kamov 226T helicopters in India and a contract to build Grigorivich frigates for the Russian navy.

Reliance Group recently said it will invest ₹6,500 crore in building an aerospace equipment manufacturing centre in Nagpur.

Reliance Group is likely to use the shipbuilding facilities at Pipavav for the collaboration with Abu Dhabi Ship Building.

“Skills developed and the experience gained through this collaboration will further add to Reliance Group's capabilities and position it favourably as a strategic partner for Indian Navy's future programmes,” the company said in a statement.

Old news but not posted previously

Tata delivers nearly 600 military vehicles for Minusma
Indian vehicle manufacturer Tata Motors has supplied 585 military vehicles to African countries for use in the United Nation's Minusma mission in Mali.

Tata began delivering the vehicles last year - a process which took about five months. The vehicles sold to Minusma are all-wheel-drive vehicles and were delivered to Mali's neighbours for use in the Minisma mission.

Some of the vehicles sold to Minusma are believed to include fuel tankers, ambulances, refrigerator trucks, water tankers, 4x4 busses, 4x4 logistics trucks and light recovery vehicles.

Tata has for years been selling vehicles to African militaries, such as the Uganda People's Defence Force, Djibouti, Tanzania and Mozambican military.

A representative from Tata said that the company has a whole range of vehicles available to meet requirements, from busses to armoured personnel carriers, and that the company has a good presence in all of Africa, with agents/dealers in countries like Mozambique, Angola, Malawi, Kenya, DRC, Sudan, Djibouti, Senegal, Nigeria, Ghana, Ivory Coast etc.

The Indian armed forces is Tata's largest military customer and recently awarded the company a contract to supply 1 200 high mobility 6x6 trucks for the Indian Army - the largest single order awarded to a private Indian land systems supplier by the Indian Army. The contract is worth around $150 million.

Tata Motors on 10 July said it planned to double its revenue from its defence business over the next three years to $600 million. It generated some $316 million in revenue from defence contracts over the last three years, representing 3% of total revenue. Future contracts it is bidding for include 700 light armoured vehicles and 100 wheeled armoured personnel carriers for the Indian military.

Tata recently unveiled its new Kestrel 8x8 Light Armoured Multipurpose Vehicle., featuring a detachable crew pod and V-shaped hull.

Please stop using words like "Donated" for equipment transferred to neighbouring and allied nations. It is a demeaning connotation and will aggravate resentment against India
