According to a journalist in Kashmir, it was Para SF who cleared out the terrorists from DPS school. If I am not wrong, this is the one located just outside the main Srinagar city. It is one of very few schools which has managed to provide comparatively uninterrupted schooling in the region for past 2-3 years.

"The enemy has a nefarious design that the school buildings are destroyed and children have nothing to study and ultimately abandon their studies, which we will ensure that no such thing happens," the state police chief said.

Cross border trade of various goods is long known to be major source of funding for local terrorists and separists.. We should not let single grain of salt to be traded accross LOC.. Local traders should be better integrated with rest of country instead.. Pakis want to disturb schools/ loot banks / provide escorts to hiding militants through stone pelters.. This can be limited to great extent by shutting down their major funding pathway..
We are loosing good men while each successive govt is busy in promoting cross border trade and giving protection to separists..

Operation in this core area had never taken place, ops were planned based on inputs by security forces & intelligence agencies: Sukma SP

Raipur: More than 12 Maoists have been killed in a massive anti-Maoist operation launched jointly by the Chhattisgarh Police and CRPF (Central Reserved Police Force) in Sukma district today. Three jawans have also died in Operation Prahar, said DM Awasthi, a senior officer connected with the anti-Maoist operations in the state. The exchange of fire had gone on for 12 hours.

Operation Prahar is one of the biggest operations aimed at flushing out the Maoists hiding in forests of Tondamarka, an area located in the Maoist stronghold of the state's Sukma, where a Maoist attack had claimed the lives of 25 securitymen in April.

The 56-hour long operation had started on Saturday. More than 1,500 security personnel took part in the operation.

"More than a dozen Naxals have died in this operation. All the bodies could not be recovered due to heavy firing, which lasted for approximately 12 hours. It was the first initiative of its kind," Mr Awasthi said.
...
Reports said the Maoist casualties included Korsa Mahesh, a senior operative who would disguise himself as a police officer. A self-loading rifle was recovered from his possession.

Insulting question by TV anchor led to planning of PoK surgical strikes, says Manohar Parrikar

We planned 15 months in advance. Additional troops were trained. Equipment was procured on priority basis,” he said. The Swathi Weapon Locating Radar, developed by the DRDO, was used first in September 2016 to locate “firing units” of Pakistani Army, though the system was inducted officially three months later, Parrikar said. Thanks to this Radar, forty firing units of Pakistani Army were destroyed, he added.

Reacting strongly to Manohar Parrikar’s ‘surgical strikes’ remark, former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Omar Abdullah asked whether ‘we are supposed to feel safer with this sort of decision making.’

Days of dossier therapy are over Mr. Abdullah and yes we do feel safe with such decision making.. If people with selfish intersts feel unsafe its their problem..Thank you MP sir for not taking such insult lightly..

Terrorist killed today was involved in killing 6 policemen few days back..Two civilians - Tahira and Shadab Chopan - also lost their lives in the crossfiring. 44-year-old Tahira was rushed to the district hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries, officials said. Chopan, 21, was allegedly killed in security forces' action against protesters near the encounter site. Four other persons were admitted to hospitals with firearm injuries sustained near the scene of the counter-operation.

Use of heavy hands is must to deter further interfernce with security operations..

We need to get a dedicated DM to enable such kind of critical decision making. Hopefully PM Modi will appoint one after the Presidential election. Gen V.K will be a good choice.

Encounter in J&K's Budgam: 2 terrorists believed to be trapped

SRINAGAR: An encounter broke out on Tuesday evening between security forces and terrorists in central Kashmir's Budgam district, police said.
Security forces launched a cordon-and-search operation in Redbug area of Budgam after receiving specific intelligence inputs about the presence of terrorists in the area, said a police official who refused to be identified.

I am not an expert but i feel publishing news about ongoing security operations will do more harm than good.. :x

Interesting very interesting.
Picking up rifles from the enemy dead has been done but never in sustained manner due to logistical reqs.
Guess they must either have good ammo supply OR are scrapping the bottom of their own barrel.

What is interesting is that the civilian jihadis have stopped forming mobs and pelting stones at security forces. 3 4 retards gaining 72 hoors was enough to put fear of death in most wannabe ghazis.

Pliss drop ji.

I am very surprised to hear that locals in Kargil did this. They are mostly Shias and not as bad sunni kashmiris. They have a lot of islamists but this is a new low. Sonmarg, Baramulla and other nearby areas are very hostile and full of rabid islamists. Most of terrorist and civilian jihadi violence happen there. Locals in Srinagar and nearby are not as bad because many of them have properties and relatives outside Kashmir too. They stay in limits mostly due to fear of reprisals.

Attacks on tourists and pilgrims are not new. They happen every year but local papers hardly ever publish it and mainstream media is too scared to upset kashmiriyat narrative.

Kashmiri muslims including porters and mule owners assaulted pilgrims, stole stuff, destroyed langars and urinated and spat on sacred havan kunds and pictures last year. It is very regular to hear kashmiri muslims ganging up and assaulting tourists vehicles even with women and children inside.

I was in Kashmir last month and a tourist Tempo Traveler was stoned by locals in Anantnag or maybe Pahalgam. This never makes to news and most Indians beleive that Kashmir is safe for tourists.
For people on a road trip to Laddakh, i always advise taking Manali route or spend as little time as possible in Kashmir. Bragging rights and selfies in Kashmir are not worth the risk.

It is not safe. Muslims there hate Hindus and other non muslim Indians. There are a few good people, but they are a silent minority.

I had written a travelogue which covered some of it.

TL;DR for people who are planning a Kashmir trip:
Q: Is the place beautiful ?
A: A lot of beautiful places, but man made places are badly maintained and natural places poorly preserved.

Q: Is it safe ?
A: Few days before we confirmed tickets, some tourist vehicles were attacked and tourists received injuries. Another tourist vehicle owned by our driver’s family was attacked similarly while we were there. A terrorist attack happened in Anantnag almost the same time we were driving through it. We could’t visit a few places because of stone pelting and curfews. All these incidents happened in different parts of the valley. There is very little danger from terrorist attacks though.

Q: How are people ?
A: If you know them personally, very hospitable and welcoming. But if you are a prospective customer, then majority of kashmiri tourism businesses are extremely conniving and annoying. Before you say, “it’s like this everywhere”, NO it’s not as bad as in kashmir.

Q: Is Kashmir worth visiting ?
A: Maybe, if you are willing to take risks like those mentioned above. If you really want to visit Kashmir, don’t do it during Amarnath yatra season. Everything will be very over-priced and in short supply.

Due to article 370 and special status, JK does follow Ranbir Penal Code. It is very similar to Indian Penal Code but I don't have detailed knowledge about it.

Hurriyat officials being used as ATMs? Terrorists even threaten Separatists for money, reveal documents

NEW DELHI: Letters written to Hurriyat members on Hizbul Mujahideen and Lashkar-e-Taiba letterheads, recovered by NIA during raids, reveal that terror funding in the Valley could be a two-way phenomenon, with LeT and HM cadres turning to separatists for finances from time to time.
The demands made on Hurriyat separatists by local LeT and Hizbul terrorists, citing dire need of finances on account of illness of fellow cadres and other problems, range from a few thousand rupees to lakhs and include mobile phones as well.

Strongly recommended across India for stopping demographic aggression, as well as confiscating Saudi/UAE funding for madarssas that raise these excessive children into Jehadi cannon fodder.

Many months ago I pointed on this thread on stopping the funding via cross border trade. Finally NIA woke up and took steps to stop the funding. Though the tap isnt fully closed yet.

I cant believe GoI still believes this cross border trade BS.

Both these steps will make India a very peaceful nation.

http://www.sundayguardianlive.com/news/ ... ng-results

....

. In the three-year-period between 2011 and 2013, when the UPA government was in power at the Centre, 239 terrorists were killed in J&K by the security forces. However, between 2014 and July 2017, 463 of them have been killed, with the maximum number of 150 being eliminated in 2016. This year the number has already crossed 100, and is expected to rise even further.
Officials attribute such success to the no holds barred policy adopted by the NDA government at the Centre. They say that the policy that the government has adopted in the last three years will continue until there is a permanent impact on the ground.

Major General (Retired) S.P. Sinha, who once served in Ladakh, told this newspaper that the last three years have seen a massive shift in the tactical strategy adopted by the government. “Earlier, it was you (militants) don’t trouble me, I won’t trouble you. Earlier, it was, first take permission from the ministry officials sitting in Delhi, before retaliating. Now it is, don’t think twice before responding to an attack. Tactical freedom has been given to the Army to do whatever it thinks is needed for operational freedom and that is why we are seeing an increase in the number of terrorists who are being eliminated,” Sinha said.

Officials say that the government is aware that the no holds barred policy is likely to elicit desperate responses from the terror groups, but that the option of “going slow” does not arise.

^^ In the above article it gives a figure of 82 Security forces personnel who obtained veergati in J&K in 2016. SATP gave the figure as 88.

Although, this included the disproportionately large number of veer jawan we tragically lost in Uri, but did it also include the number of casualties in the LoC confrontations that followed?

How security forces finally killed LeT terrorist Abu Dujana

New Delhi: Lashkar terrorist Abu Dujana was killed on Tuesday reportedly as he sneaked into a house in Pulwama, Jammu & Kashmir, to meet his wife.
The fact that he went to meet his wife from time to time was known to Jammu & Kashmir police and having watched him on two earlier occasions, a certain pattern of timing and pre-arrival locational environment was noticed.
As soon as the input on his impending arrival at a Hakripora residential complex was received, J&K police deployed its personnel around the house and watched silently under cover for two hours till reinforcements arrived.

Joint cordon and search operations were launched, led by the J&K police and its special operations group. They were assisted by 182 Battalion, 183 Battalion, Central Reserve Police Force and 55 Rashtriya Rifles. The operation was launched at 4:30 am, after the forces received a confirmed intelligence input about the presence of militants in Hakripora village of Pulwama.

Sohrabuddin Sheikh encounter case: CBI court discharges Gujarat ex-IPS DG Vanzara

http://indiatoday.intoday.in/story/dg-v ... 15870.html
A special Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) today discharged former IPS officer DG Vanzara in the Sohrabuddin Sheikh encounter case citing lack of evidence. The court also gave relief to Rajasthan cadre IPS officer Dinesh MN in the same case.
Many others, including Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) chief Amit Shah, have already been discharged in the case.
Vanzara, who is an accused in the fake encounter cases of Ishrat Jahan and Sohrabuddin Sheikh, was released on bail in February, 2015 after spending almost seven and half years in prison.

These guys are being ruthlessly culled.
Cant imagine the fear in the rest of the folks if the "longest serving foreign militant" in the valley could only make it from 2014 to 2017 being being sent to his 72

It is tough going with a hostile population. Either the population should be on the side of the state or they should fear the state much more than they fear the jihadi scum
