Can we rename this as Armed Forces Equipment naming dhaaga and convert it to chipku. I hate clicking on threads thinking there is something new and it is naamkaran ceremony going on!

We already have too many chipkus on Military forum. Let it be a free floating one. Though I support the idea of a general namkaran thread.

Cheers....

Pretty 'Tongue in cheek' eh! :)

They can name it Aristotle for all I am worth, but hell, what matters is the punch. Like Shaking Spear said what is in a name!

I think Aparajit or Ajatshatru is apt!

These names are too Sanskritized for my downmarket tastes. I recommend basing all names on Mumbaiyya Hindi.

May I suggest 'Aaila' or 'Haila' for the sub?

What the Pakjabi naval staff is likely to squeal when they see her erupting out of the waters, their darkest nightmare: "Aaila re!".

The LCA should be named "Kharcha Paani". As in it's going to do your 'kharcha paani' for you.

Rename the Arjun to 'Jhakaas'.

You sir are a communal right wing fascist. "Naamkaran samaroh" is an hindu custom. You are showing your communal colors by advocating a hindu naming ceremony. You should herewith provide names for similar ceremonies in christian/muslim/sikh/jew/parsi/buddhist/jain traditions, or I will report your post to the moderators for causing communal trouble.

Please to note that once the new communal bill passes, I can have you arrested for hurting sentiments of minorities :((

Gawd we are going to out do the Canadians with their dual Ingliss-Phrench ==.

BTW I thought that this thread will be IB4TLed quicker than one can spell "naamkaran" and jingos will desist from proliferating the ATV dhaga with goat droppings.

Either way>

The name of a N sub should be menacing. Any name suggested should be atleast 7/10 on the menacing scale.

Extending the Namkaran.
can the IA not name the Arjun after its own tank legends like the american m1 abrahms
Arjun is a DRDO project Name. As IA has already inducted in small nos and mk2 may get inducted in larger nos?

My error onlee, saar.

But I have given some serious (seriously, five minutes worth at least) thought to the subject and want to know if there is any reason why we are giving the Pakjabis the degrees of freedom when it comes to 'Islamic' nomenclature.

I think it would cause them considerable takleef, be part of media psyops, and emphasize our diversity, if we grabbed some of that space, so to speak.

My name suggestions - not for the sub, but in general - Tipu Sultan*, Badr (after the battle), Akbar/Babur, etc.

These are suggestions, but I am sure one can come up with better names. The point being that we are (IMHO) ceding some piskological space when we allow them that nomenclature. If we start incorporating these names we not only emphasize our plural nature, we also bring a section of our own society into the 'process of nomenclature' and best of all, I believe we will cause a lot of khujlee to the Pakjabis.

Edit: On second thoughts, I have a great name - if not for the sub- for some weapon system/ platform. Abdul Hamid.

*Yes I know he is not regarded favourably by many here, it is only a suggestion

We need some badass names. Enough of Suresh, Anil, Tejas, Arihant and Avinash. They sound like some nice guy IT-vity types you will encounter in Bangalore.
I said this once on the LCA thread too, why not have some fear-inciting, dhoti-shiver guaranteeing names - Hidimba, Ghatotkach, Bakasur, Raavan, Putna?

Because the Indian ideal is of a slightly delicate, doe eyed, beautiful Shri Ram/Krishna smiling ever so slightly at the corner of their lips as they put an end to the worthies named above.

INS Vrikodara.

One of the aspects of the name relates to being a cruel and fierce adversary.
