The French have some nerve. Dishing up a dressed up old vixen to woo our novice lads.

Shiv Aroor's blog has air to air and other photos from Garuda V.
In all the photos, it appear the IAF has airbrushed out the serials from all the airplanes. Even the mig-21 bison and mig-27s (!)
Wonder why the extreme secrecy.

Answering my own question - The Group captain is wearing the patch from the French E-3F squadron (EDCA 36).
from here.
Now the interesting part: His french counterpart has a red patch on which has a black bat-like figure in the middle and reads (in English) "Scanners - Always Alert".
Is this, then, the name and patch for the Indian AEW sq?

MARCOS - Which unit it this?
Re: Miscellaneous Pictures - Indian Military
"Scanners " should be the patch of 33 SU based at Jodhpur.Dennis wrote:Answering my own question - The Group captain is wearing the patch from the French E-3F squadron (EDCA 36).

Good to see that NSG have upgraded their equipment levels massively. That Sikh NSG officer was in NSG even during 26/11 - how long is the deputation nowadays?svinayak wrote:

Newbie poochh, how do these guys manage to keep composure in such fitted+covered clothing in Delhi heat, in temperatures where ordinary folk find it impossible to just sit wearing white khadi. These guys are supermen.Raja Bose wrote:Good to see that NSG have upgraded their equipment levels massively. If the Rafale looks small compared to Su-30 MKI, then wonder how will LCA fare? Probably need Magnifying glass
Only if LCA can get conformal fuel tanks like latest f-16 series and we focus on sensor integration. It's got good genes, just needs right parents to get it its full world beating potential.

There is! Shot at the same place except, six years ago by my Chandigarh mate Nitin ▼
AFAIK, they come in heavy (with supplies) from Chandigarh & depart empty.Prithwiraj wrote:I thought IL-76 power to weight ratio is pretty low --- not sure how they manage to take off from such high altitude with thinner air--- must have some weight restriction
I was at Sanat's home looking through all his shots, he got 2 Gajs on the ground but heat-haze screwed the shots, there's 1 Gaj which dep before this & was twice as high so he couldn't get the Parvatshala for background in that, this one as u can see was significantly low(er).
Btw, i had gone Spotting today to nail this
SpiceJet's CEO tweeted us about their brand new 737's (in a special livery) operating here for today, while there i saw a Sea King coming-in on runway 27 perpendicular to an approaching Go Air 320, allowing the 320 to sail past at a safe distance & then tailing it towards the Santa Cruz Naval Hangar where it lay. You can see it as a dot at the end of the line of biz jets ^
Quite rare to see the Sea Kings here. Despite their age, very smooth & relatively quiet birds those.

Considering that the breed is GSD - that is not surprising at all.NRao wrote:military dog protecting soldier
Even in my house, the dog (from same breed) was closest to a Nepali chap we had - GSD are considered to be one-man dog. At night, the dog would go and sleep next to him in our drawing room. And if anyone tried to come near our Nepali help, he would start growling from at least 5-6 feet away. In another incident, the same dog almost took out a 6-feet tall surdy friend of my brother who went into his bedroom to wake him up in the evening and get him to come out to play. The dog knew this surdy fellow and was all pally with him till the time he touched my sleeping brother.
But to be fear to other breeds, I've seen same behavior in Labrador that one of my cousin has. The dog sleeps next to him at night (on floor) and growls if someone tries to approach him. One has to shout to first wake him up. Surprisingly, did not see this behavior with my GSD or his Labrador in day-time (when both people were from the family).
There seems to be this intense protective and possessive nature of dogs towards who they consider as part of their pack.

IAF SU-30 carrying out aerial refuelling off a C-135 FR tanker aircraft of the French Air Force during Ex-Garuda V. Photo IAF
The Indo-French Air Exercise “Garuda V” which commenced on 03 June successfully concluded today, where both the air forces engaged in various combat roles including Air to Air refuelling. The exercise provided great cross learning to both Air Forces. During the exercise, the IAF chief Air Chief Marshal Arup Raha and his French counterpart General Denis Mercier flew combat sorties in Rafale and Su30 respectively and interacted with the pilots and technicians of both the Air Forces.
The challenging and realistic missions executed throughout Garuda-V as well as the sharing of know-how and operational lessons has enhanced the operational capabilities of both sides as well as reinforced the cooperation between French and Indian Air Forces. Conducted in a professional and friendly spirit, Garuda-V contributed significantly to the camaraderie between the units involved, in the spirit of the strong Defence relationship and strategic partnership between France and India.
The French detachment comprised of 4 Rafales and 1 C-135 French Refueller aircraft while the IAF fielded 4 Su-30MKI, 4 MiG 21 Bison, 4 MiG 27 (Upg), as well as an IL-78 tanker aircraft and an Airborne Warning and control system IL-76 (AWACS). — with Cesar David Prieto Perez.

How come the CISF are wearing two colours of boots - brown (CISF personnel on the left in both pics, incl the lady) and black (CISF personnel on the right in the second pic) ?Nikhil T wrote:PM Modi shaking hands with security personnel deployed at ISRO.
