https://twitter.com/hvtiaf/status/15894 ... mQBbDT3QOw ---> If the pilot is incapacitated after a crash landing or accident, battle damage etc, the crash crew have to break the glass and pull the handle to shatter the canopy. Then the fireman can extract the pilot. Many pilots have been rescued from raging fires, by crash crew.

https://twitter.com/dey_krishnandu/stat ... mQBbDT3QOw ---> I can also see an emergency cut here yellow stripe on the canopy. Is that a second option if canopy doesn't shatter?

https://twitter.com/hvtiaf/status/15894 ... mQBbDT3QOw ---> Yes

But Harpoon II missiles had been ordered about 15 years back for the Jaguar IM aircraft along with the EL 20232 radars.

Litening pods have been on Jaguars since the late 1990s. I believe delivery started in 1998 (?).

India chooses Litening

O/T....but it was the Mirage 2000 (not the Jaguar) that employed the Litening pod over Kargil.

Admiral saab,

The presence of LDP from 1990's i was aware of, but this Jag had its starboard side 30mm canon removed and faired over, where this LDP is now mounted. Wasn't aware of this upgrade being made on the the JS fleet.

This upgrade was reportedly part of the last batch of Jaguars ordered in 2006. See below...

Source: https://www.airvectors.net/avjag.html
A final order for 20 single-seaters was placed in 2006, with the total number of Jaguars, not counting the 18 loaners, obtained by India as:

___________________________

Jaguar IS: 128
Jaguar IM: 8

Jaguar IB: 15
Jaguar IB Night Attack: 17
___________________________

SEPECAT kits: 40
HAL-built: 128
___________________________

TOTAL: 168
___________________________

The last batch of single-seaters featured modernized displays and processor, plus the DARIN II system, featuring:

Replacement of the HUDWAC with an Israeli Elbit wide-angle HUD.

Replacement of the Sagem ULISS navigation system with a Sagem Sigma 95 navigation system, with ring-laser gyro INS and GPS receiver.

Replacement of COMED with a 12.7 x 12.7 centimeter (5 x 5) MFD.

A new LRMTS in a reprofiled nose.

An Elta EL/L-8222 RF jammer, replacing the right cannon, with the gun port faired over; an Indian-made Tarang RWR; and an Israeli IAI Malat countermeasures dispenser system, built in India under license.

A new autopilot, and twin mission computers built by HAL.
However, the above aircraft in the photo (serial number JS 132) was part of the initial delivery from the UK. JS 132 was delivered to the IAF sometime in the early 1980s. See the breakdown of the aircraft delivery, via serial number, below. Likely as part of a fleet wide upgrade, and to bring them in line with the last batch ordered in 2006, it appears they are removing one cannon in place of a Litening pod or a jammer.

Source: https://combatace.com/files/file/1634-i ... l-numbers/
Allocation of Jaguar Serials:

JI001-JI018 RAF aircraft on loan - returned (18)

JS101-JS135 UK Direct Supply (35)

JS136-JS204 HAL Manufacture (79)

JT051-JT053 UK Direct Supply Two seaters (3)

JT054-JT065 HAL Manufactured (12)

JT066-JT082 HAL Manufactured DARIN II (17)

JM251-JM262 HAL Manufactured Maritime (12)

Total 158 + 18* (* - Loan / Returned)
