No armaments on either. Is that common in a patrolling sortie?Rakesh wrote: https://twitter.com/Kilo_Spec/status/14 ... 82657?s=20 ---> "It's Flanking Time"

Re: Miscellaneous Pictures - Indian Armed Forces
This is likely for a photo-op, either for an annual IAF calendar or in some MoD or DRDO brochure. It depends on what the photographer is looking to capture and convey. Some photographers like a clean fighter, no drop tanks and no armament. Others, like the opposite. I like the photo, because it clearly shows the beautiful lines of the Rambha.k prasad wrote:No armaments on either. Is that common in a patrolling sortie?
Aircraft on the ORP (Operational Readiness Platform) are always fully armed and ready to go at a moment's notice. IAF pilots put in a lot of hours each year and I don't believe they have time to just patrol. A former CO of No 24 Hunting Hawks Squadron (Su-30s) more or less confirmed this. He said that most of the time, when pilots go up in the air...it is for a mission, which is 99.9% of the time for training. A2A, A2G, etc. The odd time is for stuff like photo ops, NDA fly pasts, Republic Day fly pasts, etc.
Re: Miscellaneous Pictures - Indian Armed Forces
^ Even without their AAMs they are still very useful - as mini AEW systems & formidable deterrents - the Op For do not have sensitive enough radar to know if they are armed or not..

Re: Miscellaneous Pictures - Indian Armed Forces
Patrolling is carried out to show presence and to monitor situation. One doesn't need to be armed to carry out a patrol in peacetimes, unless flying over disturbed areas. Even unarmed aircrafts can be plenty useful in patrolling.k prasad wrote:
