India, Singapore and Thailand holding mega naval exercise in Andaman Sea - ET
The navies of India, Singapore and Thailand on Monday carried out a series of complex military drills in the Andaman Sea on the first day of a two-day mega naval exercise. The Indian Navy said the exercise highlights the growing synergy, coordination and cooperation in the maritime domain between the three friendly navies.

It has deployed missile corvette Karmuk while Singapore is being represented by RSS Tenacious, a formidable class frigate. Thailand has sent Khamrosin class anti-submarine patrol craft Thayanchon to the SITMEX exercise. The exercise is being conducted annually since 2019 with an aim to enhance mutual inter-operability, imbibing best practices among the three navies. The maiden edition of SITMEX was hosted by the Indian Navy off Port Blair in September 2019 while it was organised in 2020 by the Republic of Singapore Navy.

The 2021 edition of the exercise is being hosted by Royal Thai Navy. ''The exercise is being conducted as a 'non-contact, at sea only' exercise in view of COVID-19 restrictions and highlights growing synergy, coordination and cooperation in the maritime domain between the three friendly navies,'' the Indian Navy said in a statement. ''The two days of maritime drills will witness the three navies engaged in various tactical exercises including naval manoeuvres and surface warfare drills,'' it said. The Navy said the exercise will fortify the long-standing bond of friendship and further enhance the cooperation between the participating navies towards augmenting the overall maritime security in the region. The Indian Navy has been gradually expanding its presence in the Indian Ocean region in the last few years.

Notwithstanding the coronavirus pandemic, the Indian Navy participated in maritime exercises in the last few months with a number of countries. Last month, India held the Malabar exercise that was also participated by the navies of the US, Japan and Australia. India invited Australia for the exercise last year as well as this year effectively making it a drill by all the Quad member nations.

The Quad, comprising India, the US, Australia and Japan, is aimed at ensuring a free and open Indo-Pacific, a region that witnessed increasing Chinese military assertiveness in recent years. China has been suspicious about the purpose of the Malabar exercise as it feels that the annual war game is an effort to contain its influence in the Indo-Pacific region.

Multi-agency exercise 'Sagar Shakti' ends in Gujarat
Ahmedabad, Nov 22 (PTI) A four-day multi-agency exercise of armed forces and other security organisations, that involved comprehensive coordination and sharing of operational data among them to overcome emerging threats, concluded in Gujarat on Monday.

The Indian Army, Indian Navy, Indian Air Force, Indian Coast Guard, Border Security Force and Gujarat security apparatus took part in the drill held in the creek sector of Kutch peninsula in Gujarat, an official release said.

The multi-agency manoeuvre named "Sagar Shakti" was organised between November 19 and 22 as part of the Dakshin Shakti exercise underway in training areas of Rajasthan and Gujarat, it stated.

Gujarat agencies, including the police, marine police and the fisheries department participated in the exercise, said the release issued by the Press Information Bureau.

"The exercise involved insertion of troops and manoeuvres by forces in all three dimensions simultaneously in an integrated manner," it stated. The participants practised comprehensive coordination involving the latest technology, including response mechanism, real time communication, and sharing of operational data to overcome emerging multi-dimensional threats, said the release.

The exercise was witnessed by senior officials of participating agencies, it stated. "This was the first time that an effective punch of a Field Training Exercise has been packed in the response mechanism which functions under a robust Central Operation Room (COR) comprising troops of multiple forces.

"The integration and coordination achieved was apparent and applauded by senior officials," said the release.[/quote]

US to take part in military exercise near India's disputed border with China
(CNN)The United States is to take part in a joint military exercise with India less than 100 kilometers (62 miles) from the South Asian country's disputed border with China.

The military drills will be held in mid-October at an altitude of 10,000 feet in Auli in the Indian state of Uttarakhand and will focus on high-altitude warfare training, according to a senior Indian Army officer with knowledge of the matter.

Auli is about 95 kilometers from the Line of Actual Control (LAC), an inhospitable piece of land where the disputed border between India and China is roughly demarcated.

I changed your username from amitg1976 to Amit_G, as numbers are not permitted in usernames.

To answer your question, not much I believe. Tejas has flown to Malaysia and Bahrain, so not a big deal. As of now though, both squadrons are undergoing various duties at Sulur AFS i.e. some airframes are being converted to the Mk1A flying prototypes, other airframes are being retrofitted for a variety of A2A and A2G munitions, etc.

But they should be able to spare some airframes if required, but it also depends on what the nations are looking to get out of this exercise.

Since Malaysia and India, both operate the Su-30, it makes sense to have them fly and train together. Different crews from different countries, flying a similar platform and that presents countless opportunities for both sides to learn. It is not just the aircrew that is learning, but the ground/maintenance crews are learning valuable lessons from each other.

Going forward, when foreign countries request to visit India for joint exercises...perhaps the joint exercise planning team at Air HQ could see if inducting some FOC Tejas Mk1 airframes - from No 18 Squadron - for the exercise would give some valuable training for Tejas air and ground crews. From that point, then work up.
