Russia claims it has successfully tested hypersonic missile ‘which makes Western defences obsolete’
State news agency reports that new system could be ready for use as early as next year

Russia has claimed it has carried out successful tests of a hypersonic missile, a year ahead of schedule.

According to government-controlled news agency Sputnik, the missile system - known as Zircon - could be installed on Pyotr Veliky, the country’s nuclear-powered missile strike ship.
The hypersonic missiles are a “quantum leap in technology,” defence analyst Tim Ripley’s told DW.

They can travel faster than any other missile on the planet, up to 4,600mph, which is almost 6.6 times the speed of sound and enough to practically guarantee they cannot be targeted or intercepted.

Mr Ripley explained that this effectively rendered Western defences, such as the anti-missile systems aboard new Royal Navy carriers the HMS Prince of Wales and the HMS Queen Elizabeth, “obsolete”.

“It will greatly reduce the reaction time that they (Western military) have to deploy their own defences and counter-measures," he said.
While the world's media were aware that Russia was developing the missiles, these tests come much earlier than the original projected date of 2018.
Military analyst Vladimir Tuchkov told Sputnik: “It (the Zircon missile system) is expected to be added into Russia’s arsenal between 2018 and 2020.”

These reports emerge as relations between the West and Russia reach their worst since the Cold War, fuelled by the crisis in Ukraine, the devastating conflict in Syria and the alleged Russian meddling in Western politics – most notably, the US elections.
PS:Hopefully BMos-H will also appear faster!

"A great deal of preparatory work has been done and unique technological methods of producing titanium alloy parts have been restored,” Shoigu said, adding that the main elements of the bomber were already being produced at Russian defense enterprises.
Sergei Shoigu said that in February 2017, President Vladimir Putin signed a decree to restart the TU-160 bomber production line at the Tupolev aircraft factory in Kazan and design a new generation of Russian strategic bombers.

Shoigu also discussed ways to bring Russia’s existing feet of Tu-160 and Tu-95MS bombers up to speed.

In an interview with Radio Sputnik, deputy editor-in-chief of Aviapanorama journal and former Air Force pilot, Vladimir Popov said that the Tu-160M2 will be essentially a new pane.

“Even though on the outside it looks much like its predecessor, Tu-160MS2 will be a whole new aircraft with a new fire control and navigation gear, advance system of electronic jamming, a new cockpit and more fuel-saving engines. Everything possible is being done to extend its supersonic ability. This is the bottom line of the current overhaul,” Popov said.

The Tu-160MS2 will be powered by upgraded engines with better endurance characteristics, which adds to the new bomber's range, increasing it by 1,000 kilometers (621miles) as compared with the existing version.

All Russia's Tu-160 Strategic Bombers 'to Undergo 100%, Deep Modernization'
The engine features improved performance to allow the plane to cruise in stratosphere at an altitude of 18.3 kilometers (60,000 feet or 11.3 miles) beyond the enemy’s air defense systems reach.
In April, Deputy Defense Minister Yuri Borisov said that all the 16 Tu-160 strategic bombers currently in service with the Russian Aerospace Forces will be modernized pending the delivery of the upgraded Tu-160MS2 version.

Russia is currently working on the PAK DA (prospective aviation complex for long-range aviation) new generation strategic bomber. The development is being delayed with the first unit to appear between 2020 and 2025. The upgraded Tu-160 will fill the gap

An excellent source of information on new Russian weapons is Andrei Akulov. He's a retired Russian colonel who writes for "Strategic Culture." https://www.strategic-culture.org/autho ... kulov.html

This is his April 2017 article on new Russian hypersonic weapons.
https://www.strategic-culture.org/news/ ... -race.html
The emergence of hypersonic weapons is a revolution that seriously affects the global balance of power. For instance, when the new $15 billion US Ford-class aircraft carrier is commissioned, it will become vulnerable to hypersonic missiles ....

According to the «A Threat to America's Global Vigilance, Reach, and Power: High-Speed, Maneuvering Weapons», report produced in late 2016 by a blue-ribbon panel of experts for Air Force Studies Board at the National Academies of Science, the US is falling behind in the technology race to develop both defensive and offensive high-speed maneuvering arms. The paper sounds the alarm about an arms race quietly underway for several years to develop hypersonic missiles for both strategic nuclear weapons and conventional rapid strike systems.

Mark J. Lewis, chairman of the panel that produced the report, said the panel concluded that «the United States may be facing a threat from a new class of weapons that will effectively combine speed, maneuverability, and altitude in ways that could challenge this nation’s tenets of global vigilance, reach, and power».

While spending ten times less that the United States on defense, including research and development, Russia has produced weapons that make entire US missile defense effort ineffective, while providing it with technological edge in first strike capability.

According to Rossiyskaya Gazeta, a Russian government daily newspaper, the 2S35 Koalitsiya-SV new 152mm self-propelled gun (SPG) will enter service with the Russian Army before 2020. The howitzer will supplement and eventually replace the 2S19 Msta. This information was confirmed by Major General Mikhail Matveevsky, the commander-in-chief of missile and artillery troops. The weapon was first seen in public (initially with its turret covered) in 2015 during rehearsals for the Moscow Victory Day Parade ....

The primary weapon is a 152mm 2A88 cannon, equipped with a muzzle brake and a recoil system. The Koalitsiya-SV has a range of up to 70 kilometers using precision-guided rounds and up to 40 km with standard rounds. It can fire 16 rounds per minute on average with a maximum rate of 20 rounds per minute-–the highest maximum rate of fire unparalleled in the world. It is achieved thanks to the new pneumatic loader. For comparison, the US M109A6 Paladin’s maximum rate of fire is 4 rounds per minute. Estimated ammunition load is around 60-70 rounds and using a special loader vehicle the recharge time for full ammunition load is 15 minutes.

The Koalitsiya boasts a fully-automatic ammunition loading and handling systems. A very high level of automation allows to reduce the crew to just three men - the driver, gunner and commander. To compare, the US Paladin analogue has a crew of 6.
The PzH 2000 is the German analog.

http://www.army-technology.com/projects/pzh2000
The firing rate of the PzH 2000 was 12 rounds in 59.74 seconds, and 20 rounds in one minute 47 seconds, during firing tests in October 1997 with an improved autoloader.

There seems to be a concerted effort to scuttle the FGFA deal with Russia,by "fake news" reports that Russia is demanding more moolah for the same. This is being done just before Mr.Modi visits the US,who waht desperately for India to buy their obsolete F-16 which their allies globally are junking in favour of the F-35.
Russia denies demanding an additional $7-bn from India for FGFA
BY DEFENCEUPDATE · JUNE 20, 2017

Reports that Moscow demanded an additional $7 billion from Deli for the Sukhoi/HAL Fifth Generation Fighter Aircraft (FGFA) joint project are not true, the head of Russia’s Federal Service for Military-Technical Cooperation (FSMTC) said Monday.

On May 24, Defense News reported that the Russian side was demanding more than $7 billion as part of India’s share in the development of the FGFA, arguing the project will comprise transfer of technology of several high-tech systems.

“These reports are not consistent with the reality. If the contract is signed, FGFA will by on par with our PAK FA,” FSMTC Director Dmitry Shugaev said at the Paris Air Show.

He stressed that not a single country in the world, except Russia, has shared “such sensitive” technologies with India.
“India will receive not just an airplane, but the right to its [intellectual] property,” he said.

Shugaev stressed that Russia was not talking about downgrading the jet’s technical characteristics during negotiations with the Indian side but rather about adapting it for India’s needs.

Russian Sukhoi T-50 (PAK FA) is a Russian fifth-generation stealth fighter. It is a single-seat, twin-engine multirole jet fighter designed for air superiority and attack roles. The first flight of the aircraft took place in 2010.

FGFA is based on the PAK FA. In the project, the Russian side is represented by the aircraft manufacturer and the Indian side by Hindustan Aeronautics. The initial FGFA agreement was signed in 2007, the final agreement, which will include the project’s financing conditions, is yet to be signed.

"Kalashnikov" is a detailed video with the new AK-12, AK-15 and RPK-16

The video shows the features of this weapon. So, for example, the AK-12 has a quick muzzle brake-compensator, plastic forearm and grip on the vapor tube with Picatinny rail, rear sight with adjustable range of up to 800 meters and a five-way telescopic butt. A modified store 30 caliber 5.45 mm provided with identification windows. Shop, by the way, can be used as a support in the management of fire.

It is reported that this machine has already passed all the stages of development of the military operation , and it is planned to adopt the Russian army as a major long-barreled firearms.

AK-15 is an analog automatic AK-12 by 7.62 mm ammunition. Interestingly and 5.45 mm machine gun RPK-16, which is specially designed to store drum capacity 96 cartridges.

I have a machine gun receiver cover with Picatinny rail, telescopic butt and ergonomic pistol grip with pencil case for accessories. A main trunk can be easily changed. Weight RPK-16 is only 4.5 kilograms, which is twice less than the foreign analogues.

Also on the video is represented by a set of modernization of the Kalashnikov assault rifle.

Model of an AIP Lada sub shown.
https://sputniknews.com/russia/20170628 ... ropulsion/

Russia is to also continue building Ladas after the two under construction are completed (report on the same Sputnik site) . It indicates that whatever glitches were here earlier in the class have been ironed out .The Kronstadt,to be floated out in 2018,will feature an AIP system, supposedly the world's latest AIP system.
Air-independent (closed cycle) submarines usually use hydrogen-oxygen fuel cells and are quieter compared to the diesel-electric boats that exist today.
The Russian-designed air-independent power plant (AIP) differs from its foreign analogues in that it obtains hydrogen within itself by reforming the onboard diesel fuel.
https://sputniknews.com/russia/20170619 ... anaerobic/

The next conventional AIP sub planned is the Kalina. This means that Russia is currently engaged/will be engaged in building 3 conventional sub types: Kilos, both for the RuN and export,Ladas -no exports as yet and Kalinas to come. The Kalina would take approx. 4-5 years before it sets sail for sea trials and would be certified for serial prod. sometime around 2013+.So for the next 5-6 years, both Kilos and Lada/Amurs will be built.Operating sev. types of conventional subs has been the hallmark of the Sov/Ru navy.Decades ago is had Foxtrots,Kilos,Tangos all in service at the same time, apart from sev. classes of N-subs. The IN too at one time operated 3 types,Foxtrots,U-209s and Kilos simultaneously.

UHF band is below 1 GHz, while L Band is band is between 1 and 2 and S higher frequency still (up to 4 GHz). It would depend upon what classification the Russian reporting structure follows and how they report their bands. Ultimately antenna size dictates accuracy and resolution ( beanwidth and its relationship to wavelength and aperture length) so you have to focus on a narrower swath when actually designing the radar for deployability.

Non-Nuclear Force: Why Russia is Building Lada-Class Subs

During the International Maritime Defense Show (IMDS) 2017 that launched in St. Petersburg on June 28, JSC Techmash, a subsidiary of Rostec Corporation, presented its latest creation: Zagon-2E – a unique ‘hovering’ guided anti-submarine bomb.
What really sets this munition apart from its analogues is its ability to "hover" over the water’s surface for up to four minutes, according to a statement issued by Techmash.
Meanwhile a Ru Borei SSBN,the Yuri D. successfully launched a Bulava ICBM,which has a range of around 8000km + 6-10 N-warheads each 100 times more powerful than Hiroshima.

I was referring more to what it means in Russian Lingo , The Kasata-2E2 is a Decimeter band radar which in Russian Lingo would mean L band and Podlet-K1 is centimeter band which the specs I found is S Band.

Russia's New 90R1 Sub-Killing Rocket Will Challenge NATO's Underwater Supremacy © Sputnik/ Igor Zarembo

MILITARY & INTELLIGENCE
17:36 01.07.2017

XCpt:
Splav, a Tula, Russia-based company specializing in multiple rocket launcher systems for land and naval applications, has unveiled a new guided projectile for the RPK-8 Zapad ('West') anti-submarine rocket launcher system. Independent Russian military analyst Vladimir Tuchkov explains the ins and outs of the upgraded rocket.

The new rocket, designated the 90R1, is being featured at the St. Petersburg International Maritime Defense Show, which wraps up Sunday. Earlier this week, Splav's press office confirmed that the projectile had already been put into production, and is starting to enter service aboard Russian Navy ships.

Splav also showed off another system, the Magnesit-MN, at the defense show. That rocket, also fired by the RPK-8, features hydro-acoustic elements providing surface ships with protection against homing torpedoes.

The 90R has a range between 600 m and 4.3 km, and a depth of up to one km. The range of its acoustic homing head is 130 m. The 90R1 is believed to feature improved range, although these have yet to be revealed in open sources. In any case, Tuchkov noted that "it can be assumed that designers did not increase its depth characteristics, since 1,000 m is beyond the limits of any NATO submarine or torpedo."

The analyst writes: "The 90R has advantages over traditional torpedoes in use against submarines. Because its gravitational projectiles lack an engine, they can move without being tracked by enemy sonar. They can be detected with the help of active sonar, but this mode of operation by an enemy vessel gives away its location even further. Moreover, it doesn't make much sense anyway: As a rule, major underwater targets are targeted by volleys of twelve rounds at once, and due to the reflection of the sonar waves from all twelve projectiles, a complex interference pattern is obtained, making it impossible to accurately determine the position of attacking warheads."
More tech details n the report.

the Sarmat liquid fuel ICBM will use this against abm systems

Regarding Parallel Separation of warheads, I believe they are referring to the early release of warheads without a warhead bus.

Ie once the ICBMs last stage has burnt out it is basically going as fast as it will go, and instead of the normal release of the warhead bus which carries the warheads along the flight path... occasionally manouvering to release a warhead to a specific target on the way till all the warheads are released, the new Russian missiles release all the warheads after the third stage burn out so instead of trying to hit one bus, the interceptors have to hit 6-10 individual warheads. Their new hit to kill payloads will be very inefficient for this...

Russia has accomplished two tasks by its strikes with newest Kh-101 cruise missiles, military experts told Sputnik.

Russian Tu-95 Strategic Bombers Strike Daesh in Syria With Newest Cruise Missiles
Earlier in the day, the Russian Defense Ministry announced that Tu-95MS long-range bombers struck Daesh targets in Syria with brand new Kh-101 cruise missiles, destroying three large terrorist arms and ammunition depots, as well as a terrorist command center near the city of Uqayribat in the Hama province.
According to Viktor Murakhovsky, the launch of the Kh-101 missiles in Syria helped Russia achieve two main goals: the real combat task in destroying Daesh targets and the test of military equipment.

"Instead of launching the missiles somewhere on the Novaya Zemlya or at the Kura [a missile test range in Kamchatka], it is better to destroy the real terrorists' targets. This is a real combat experience and the tests of weapons and military equipment," Murakhovsky told Sputnik.
:rotfl:
At the same time, President of the Academy of geopolitical issues Konstantin Sivkov told Sputnik that this is not the first time the Kh-101 missiles had been used in Syria. While the previous launches were conducted from much bigger ranges, while the latest strike from a range of some 1,000 kilometers.

Royal Navy's new aircraft carriers cannot stop Russia's new hypersonic Zircon missiles
The Royal Navy's Sea Ceptor system can only stop missiles travelling up to 2,300 mph

The Royal Navy’s new aircraft carriers will not be able to stop new high-speed Russian missiles by the time they enter service.

The new Zircon missile can reportedly travel at five to six times the speed of sound, using a state of the art “scramjet” engine, which takes the oxygen it needs for propulsion from the atmosphere instead of a tank on board.

This makes it smaller, lighter and faster than other engines of its type.

Nato chief 'concerned' if Russian missile reports proven true

Developed by the Russian military, it could be operational as early as next year, at which point it will likely be fitted to a nuclear-powered Kirov class warship as well as strategic bombers and submarines.

Travelling at a speed that can reach to between 3,800mph to 4,600mph, the missiles will be able to evade the air defence systems of the new 60,000-tonne naval carriers, HMS Queen Elizabeth and HMS Prince of Wales, which are currently under construction.

The Royal Navy’s current Sea Ceptor missile system can only shoot down missiles travelling up to 2,300mph.

It means the two ships, the first of which is not expected to be fully operational before 2020, could be rendered obsolete by this new development in hypersonic warfare despite costing up to £7 billion to build.

The US is also believed be developing hypersonic missiles but they are not thought to be close to production.

The K-150 Tomsk submarine launched a supersonic P-700 Granit cruise missile from a “submersed” location, according to the Russian Ministry of Defence.

In a statement, the Ministry said: “A Granit supersonic cruise missile was launched from a submersed position at a ground target located at the Kura testing grounds in the Kamchatka Krai.

“The launch was carried out from the water area of the Sea of Okhotsk.”

Crewmen of the ‘Tomsk’ nuclear submarine have also performed around a dozen more exercises, including moving while underwater and escaping mock enemy fire after the cruise missile test launch.

The P-700 Granit is a heavy supersonic naval missile with a range of 300 miles (550km). It can be fired from submarines or conventional ships, as well as surface-to-surface combat.

The missile was launched from the Sea of Okhotsk - close to North Korea and Japan
The news comes after the US shot down a test intermediate-range ballistic missile (IRBM), similar to the rockets developed by North Korea, using its world-class Terminal High Altitude Area Defence (THAAD) system.

Last night’s simulated IRBM was designed to replicate the kinds of missiles that could threaten America, including Kim Jong-un’s arsenal of weapons.

The test was the first-ever of the THAAD system against an incoming IRBM, which experts say is a faster and more difficult target to hit than shorter-range missiles, and comes after North Korea claimed it has successfully tested an intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) capable of reaching the US.

The Missile Defence Agency (MDA) said in a statement: “The successful demonstration of THAAD against an IRBM-range missile threat bolsters the country's defensive capability against developing missile threats in North Korea and other countries.”

Russia to Build 5th Generation Fighter-Interceptor in Addition to PAK FA, PAK DA
"We are currently developing the concept of a long-range interceptor aircraft to bring a proposal to our main customer [the Russian Defense Ministry]," Tarasenko said.
Earlier, Borisov said that Russia's next generation strategic bomber, known as the Advanced Long-Range Aviation Complex (PAK DA), is due to make its maiden flight in 2025-2026 and may enter mass production a few years later.

The new aircraft is being designed to replace all three bombers currently in service with the Russian long-range aircraft, including the Tu-22M3 long-range bomber and the Tu-95 and Tu-160 (aka the White Swan) strategic bombers.
