midst the US/NATO's saber-rattling and muscle flexing in Europe the US' thought leaders and military strategists are still largely unnerved by Russia's consistent military modernization; Russia's new Lider-class destroyers are seemingly giving the Pentagon the shivers.

Russian Navy to Start Building New Lider-Class Destroyer in 2019

The US has kicked off the biggest allied airborne military exercises in Europe since the end of the Cold War apparently aimed at boosting Washington's confidence in its military superiority.

Still, Russia's new Lider (Leader)-class destroyers are evidently giving US military experts the shivers, prompting a heated debate on whether or not Russia is able to revive its military industry after the collapse of the USSR.

However, Russia's actions aimed at modernizing its army speak louder than words. In late June, the Russian Navy announced that it plans to begin construction of new Lider-class destroyers in 2019, according to Navy Commander-in-Chief Adm. Viktor Chirkov.

Russia's new warships will have a displacement of about 17,500 tons, a length of 200 meters and a breadth of 20 meters. Equipped with 60 anti-ship cruise missiles, 128 anti-aircraft guided missiles and 16 anti-ship guided missiles, the nuclear powered destroyer will reportedly reach a speed of 30 knots and remain at sea up to 90 days without support.

Experts note that the vessel would become the world's third nuclear-powered destroyer after the American USS Truxtun (DLGN-35) and USS Bainbridge (DLGN-25). However, according to designers, Russia's warship will outpace its American counterparts.

"Dubbed the Lider class, these warships would feature the nuclear power and armament capacity of the massive Soviet-era Kirov battlecruisers. For reference, the 28,000 ton Kirov class has thrice the displacement of and carries roughly twice the armament of its nominal US Navy counterpart, the AEGIS cruiser," US journalist Ben Hernandez noted in his article published by the National Interest.

"Cutting a distinctive silhouette, the Lider would easily outgun the largest ships in the US or Chinese arsenals. Their nuclear power plants would allow them to sortie worldwide, limited only by food and ammunition supplies — the finest naval power projection to be found outside of aircraft carriers," Hernandez added.

Russia Developing Multipurpose Missile Launchers for Brand New Warships
The Russian Navy is expected to receive twelve Lider-class destroyers by 2025.

Predictably, this prospect is annoying US military strategists who call into question Russia's ability to complete such a "grandiose" project on time and labeling the warships as "budget breakers."

It is worth mentioning that in March 2015 Vasily Kashin, an expert at the Center for Analysis of Strategies and Technologies, pointed out that the Russian Navy's Lider project opens up an opportunity for Sino-Russian cooperation in creating nuclear-powered systems and naval armaments.

A Russian defense firm that produces the brand-new Armata T-14 tank also plans to build an army of new combat robots within the next two years. This would be a next step towards machines guided by artificial intelligence, the manufacturer says.

Uralvagonzavod, the company that introduced the ‘super tank’ Armata T-14 back in May, is now trying to step away from piloted military technologies and is eager to develop artificial intelligence.

"We will be able to show prototypes in 1.5 to 2 years. We are gradually moving away from crewed machines," Vyacheslav Khalitov, the company’s deputy director general, said Tuesday.

As an example, he noted that the Armata now requires three crew members.
“Then it will be two and then without them at all,” Khalitov said.

The trends in robotic engineering worldwide are about the same, he said. It all starts off with remote control technologies and, after that, artificial intelligence might be introduced. Uralvagonzavod is following the same pattern.

Khalitov reassured that it’s too early to be afraid of the war of the machines since the whole idea will be under development for decades to come. However, the experience promises to be transformative for the industry, he said.

The T-14 tank is based on an Armata armored platform and capable of dealing with any challenges posed by the 21st century. The Russian military marvel was presented by the Defense Ministry at the May 9 Victory Day parade in Moscow. The tank has attracted a number of “serious potential buyers from Arab countries," Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Rogozin said.

With an armored capsule for the three-man crew, the tank is notable for having an unmanned turret equipped with fully remotely controlled 125mm smoothbore cannon and 7.62mm machine gun.

Earlier, Uralvagonzavod revealed its plans to make a remote-controlled tank in the near future. The news was welcomed by Rogozin, who joked that the military would soon need people experienced in the computer game ‘World of Tanks’.

“We need no tankers now, we need World of Tanks players,” Rogozin tweeted.

Real Sea Monster! Watch World’s Biggest Hovercraft Storming a Shore
“This is a dramatically updated version of the Soviet-era Zubr-class military hovercraft built in Ukraine. The main engine will be made in Russia and the craft will carry a new weapons system. To top it all off, the new hovercraft will look better too,” Dmitry Tsygankov, the head of marketing and technical information at Almaz, told RIA Novosti on Tuesday.

The Soviet design Zubr-class air-cushioned landing craft is the world’s largest hovercraft, designed for shore landing assault units.
The Zubr hovercraft has a cargo area of 400 square meters and a fuel capacity of 56 tons.

It can carry three main battle tanks (up to 150 tons), or ten armored fighting vehicles with 140 troops (up to 131 tons), or eight armored personnel carriers of total mass up to 115 tons, or eight amphibious tanks or up to 500 troops (with 360 troops in the cargo compartment).

At full displacement the ship is capable of negotiating up to 5-degree slopes on non-equipped shores and 1.6m-high vertical walls.

The Zubr remains seaworthy in conditions up to Sea State 4 and has a cruising speed of 30-40 knots.

Harsh conditions are foiling Russian jets in Syria
WASHINGTON – Russian warplanes sent to Syria to back the regime of Bashar Assad are breaking down at a rapid rate that appears to be affecting their ability to strike targets, according to a senior Defense official.

Nearly one-third of Russian attack planes and half of its transport aircraft are grounded at any time as the harsh, desert conditions take a toll on equipment and crews, said the official who was not authorized to speak publicly about sensitive intelligence matters.

The Russians appear to be having difficulty adapting to the dusty conditions, and the number of airstrikes they have conducted seems to have dipped slightly.

"For deployed forces, that's a hideous rate," said Richard Aboulafia, an aviation analyst at the Teal Group, an aerospace consulting firm.

Russian President Vladimir Putin deployed warplanes, including Russia's advanced Fullback ground-attack jet, helicopters and troops to a base near Latakia, Syria, in September. In addition, at least a dozen transport planes have been stationed there.

"They could have bad operating procedures, inadequate supplies of spare parts and support crews," Aboulafia said.

Russia's inexperience deploying forces at some distance, unlike their military actions in bordering countries such as Ukraine and Georgia, could also account for problems keeping planes in the air, he said.

"An awful lot of expeditionary warfare revolves around logistics," Aboulafia said. "A lot of it comes down to experience. They don't have that much of it."

For U.S. warplanes, readiness rates of less than 80% would attract attention from top brass, said a senior Air Force commander with multiple combat deployments in the Middle East. The officer was not authorized to speak publicly about the matter. However, the officer noted that planes break, especially in austere, deployed conditions. He characterized mission-readiness rates of less than 80% as a matter of concern, not alarm.

David Deptula, a retired three-star Air Force general who led planning for the air war in Operation Desert Storm, said the rates for American fighters in combat zones has been above 90%. The readiness rate of 70% for Russian fighters isn't surprising, he said, because they lack experience being deployed and have been flying their jets hard. He called their rates for cargo planes, "pretty low."

"If those rates are accurate, it indicates that their deployed logistics function requires some attention," Deptula said.

U.S. pilots and aircraft have flown combat missions in the Middle East almost continuously since the first Gulf War. They struck Saddam Hussein's forces to push them from Kuwait, patrolled no-fly zones in Iraq for more than a decade, and fought wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. Last year, they returned to strike Islamic State militants on the ground in Iraq and Syria.

Last week, the Pentagon and Russian military reached an agreement to avoid conflict among pilots flying missions in Syria. Defense Secretary Ash Carter on Friday said the Russian attacks have targeted opponents of Assad in Syria, where the civil war has killed more than 200,000 people.

"What the Russians are actually doing is buttressing the Assad regime, which, as I have said, will have the effect of fanning the flames of the civil war," Carter said. "And very few of their strikes have been directed toward ISIL, which is the reason why they said, initially, they were getting into the fight. So the Russians are on the wrong side of this in every way, and they're going to contribute to the violence and the tragedy of the civil war that's been going on now, all these years."

Russian lawmakers said Sunday that Assad would be willing to call early elections, the Associated Press reported, but only after the defeat of "terrorist" groups, which is how the government refers to all of its armed opposition.

LOL, they are clutching at straws. Aboulafia is a master of US-rah-rah hyperbole anyhow but a 70% mission capable rate is NOTHING to sneeze at.

Yes,sand and duststorms do take its toll.Remember the botched attempt at rescuing US hostages in Iran during the Carter era? Funny how the US and its allies never complained all these decades but are quick to point out now when the Russians are sending ISIS into oblivion!

Russia is "deep" modernising its Kirov class N-powered battlecruisers with new missiles, sensors and eqpt. These are the most formidable surface combatants in any navy, with scores of anti-ship.anti-sub and anti-air/missile systems.

Russian Navy To Replace Flagship Cruiser With Nuclear Guided Missile Cruiser By 2020
Saturday, October 24, 2015 @ 10:30 AM

Nuclear guided-missile cruiser Admiral Nakhimov

Russia has planned to replace the flagship cruiser of the Navy's Northern Fleet, Pyotr Velikiy, with nuclear guided-missile cruiser Admiral Nakhimov by 2020.

"The Admiral Nakhimov is scheduled for maintenance," Navy Deputy Commander Rear Adm. Viktor Bursuk said Friday.

In July Sevmash shipyard said it was on schedule to deliver the overhauled cruiser Admiral Nakhimov to the Russian Navy in 2018.

"Presently, The two nuclear guided-missile cruisers, the Admiral Nakhimov and Pyotr Velikiy, which is the flagship of the Northern Fleet are the only Russian Navy's combat strength, Sputnik International reported Friday.

The ship requires modernization. Sevmash shipyard is currently completing the deep modernization of the Admiral Nakhimov. "It will finish its overhaul by the turn of the 20s when it will replace the Pyotr Velikiy." Busuk added.

The Admiral Nakhimov is the third of four Kirov-class guided-missile cruisers operated by the Soviet and then Russian Navy from 1980 to 1998.

Sure , Translate is not accurate but highlighted key parts

Object on departure

The bulk of the goals in Syria affected unguided weapons used with high accuracy

The latest Russian developments allow the use of gravity bombs with an accuracy corresponding to the best examples of world . The average for the destruction of one object takes a little more than one sortie - 1.16. This is a very good result, considering the fact that precision weapons are used in Syria, Russia's air force is very limited. The primary means of destruction are unguided weapons systems - Nursi various caliber, and gravity bombs.

Civilian casualties are almost no (we can assume that they are, as militants of the "Islamic State" placed their facilities in towns and cities close to residential buildings). All this makes a particularly close look at the applicable Russian aircraft weapons. After action by US aircraft in similar circumstances in Yugoslavia, Iraq, Afghanistan, Libya, accompanied by significant civilian casualties. Especially great were the application of American air gravity bombs. And the flow of weapons, a technical resource per one defeats the purpose, is significantly higher than it is now at the Russian pilots in Syria. This is due to the fact that the traditional use of the free-fall bombs dispersion is very significant - the deviation of ammunition can range from 150 to 400 meters depending on the height of the discharge and the method call to the target aircraft. This means that the probability of a direct hit by a bomb in the small-sized target (ten by ten meters) is small and is at most half a percentage point. In view of the possible affected areas bomb of medium caliber (250 kg) of ground objects, partially protected in engineering terms, the likelihood of injury increases to two percent. Model strike aircraft, with a bomb load of four tons (16 bombs of 250 kg), is capable of hitting a secure underground facility with a probability of up to eight percent, and the ground, not having protection - with a probability of about 30 percent. Accordingly, for the destruction of a point object with an acceptable probability (0.6-0.8) requires a very decent outfit tactical (tactical, assault) aviation - from the managers of the four sides to one or two squadrons of the total composition of 12-24 cars. A defeat for the well-protected underground facilities gravity bombs need to plan for 70-80 or more sorties, as evidenced by the practice of combat employment of aviation in the military conflicts of the XX century, such as Vietnam. In addition, in this case the inevitable huge losses among the civilian population living near military facilities: near a radius of 150-400 meters from the target to fall and explode from 40-45 to 300 and 250-kilogram bombs, and the rest by the law will fall scattering even further. Hardly any of the civilians in the area survive.

The bomb - sight - well done

Russian planes using gravity bombs average (250 kg) and large size (500 kg), solve the problem of destruction point is well protected objects (including underground) small forces - one or two planes. And this at a time when militants of the "Islamic state" for a long time under the blows of the US Air Force and NATO had to take steps to minimize their losses, one of which was the placement of objects of their infrastructure as much as possible within the residential area to hide behind civilians. Meanwhile, about any notable losses among him from the blows of the Russian aircraft has not yet been reported. Military experts attribute this to the fact that the majority directed to Syria Russian aircraft equipped with the latest domestic developments SVP-24. The idea forming the basis for this system is to ensure that no precise homing at the target munition, but the correct conclusion to the point of dumping them unguided weapons carrier. That our system is fundamentally different from the American concept of becoming a high-precision weapons conventional bombs - JDAM. US set to free-fall bomb kits that provide them guidance to the target according to the GPS. That has turned conventional bombs into manageable. It is clear that the cost of such a bomb is significantly increased (kit costs about 26 thousand dollars), although still significantly less than the full precision-guided munitions. SVP-24 provides alignment with the location of the target vehicle adjusted for the trajectory of the bomb, which is calculated on-board computing system based on hydro-meteorological conditions and its ballistics. Thus conventional munition productivity gains commensurate with precision weapons. The developers claim that the accuracy of bombing, even from a height of five to six kilometers away can be extremely high. Tests in field conditions were given standard deviation 250-500-pound bombs on target about four - seven meters.

It is clear that in a war situation imposed additional factors, significantly reduces the accuracy of the bombing. It is above all the errors in determining the coordinates of the target, which can reach several meters. No completeness of the information and hydrometeorological conditions, the state of air quality in the target area. Additional error of several meters will support the definition of the place according to GLONASS in a combat zone. Coordinates somewhat distorted at sharp maneuvers in the target area. Taking into account all these factors, you can assess the accuracy of the combat use unguided bombs using SVP-24 index of 20-25 meters. In this case, the probability of hitting a small-sized protected underground facility could reach 30-40 percent, and the probability of hitting poorly protected ground targets medium-sized and can reach 60 percent. This is sufficient to carry out highly accurate and reliable engagement objectives assigned limited staff strength: even for highly secure small objects is sufficient to apply three or four bombs, and poorly protected will be guaranteed already destroyed two ammunition. This area is close to the devastation of striking targets will not exceed a few tens of meters, which is comparable to the distance between individual buildings in a typical urban environment. Thus, having a 12-16 bombs of medium and large caliber, equipped with a system SVP-24, Su-24M is capable of destroying up to two point infrastructure Islamists in one sortie. Probably for this reason, for each affected object, on average, slightly more than one sortie (do not forget that the attack aircraft accompanied the aircraft to ensure, in particular fighters). The cost of ammunition compared with high-precision weapons and bombs, equipped with a set of JDAM, remains penny. In fairness, we note that the accuracy of the JDAM bomb hit will be higher - five - seven meters. That is, the probability of hitting even in protected underground facility reaches 70-80 percent. But this is not essential influence on improving the efficiency of air operations - for the vast majority of combat missions in Syria, such precision is redundant.

The smoke can not hide

Of particular note is that the impact of bombing using SVP-24 is only slightly dependent on the weather and visibility in the target area, since it is determined GLONASS system and the work aircraft systems. That is, if the target coordinates are reliable, shock protection setting smoke screens or other means of disguise, creating clutter is impossible. However, this system has disadvantages. The most important of which lies in its dignity - the requirement to accurately determine the coordinates of the target, and it correctly classified. This implies a dramatic increase in reaction time - from the moment of detection of the target to strike at it can take from an hour or two (depending on the distance of the target from the base airfield) to a day or more. Which limits the use of these weapons only stationary objects. Probably for this reason, with rare exceptions, our air force in Syria is working to destroy the infrastructure of the "Islamic state." However, the US Air Force in Syria and Iraq are also valid for the most part against similar purposes.

Half Ton Punch

In Syria, the Russian air force uses mostly standard high-explosive bombs of free fall caliber 250 and 500 kilograms, and special concrete-piercing bombs BETAB-500, including active-reactive with increased capacity to overcome obstacles - BETAB-500SHP. High-explosive bombs contain a large amount of explosives - from 150 to 350 kilograms, which provides a reliable target engagement. However, large-caliber explosive bombs have significant damage radius, so they are used in Syria against the relatively large size structurally solid objects located remotely from the urban areas. Concrete-bomb capable of punching up to three or four meters of concrete slabs (depending on the quality of the concrete), are used to destroy underground facilities specially protected. Basically this command centers of strategic and operational management level, as well as large stocks of weapons.

Guided Missile

Apart from gravity bombs in Syria and occasionally used precision-guided weapons. According to reliable sources in the Defense Ministry, during combat operations repeatedly used missiles "air-surface" X-29 and X-25, both with a laser, and a television guidance system. The main carriers of such weapons in Syria is the Su-34 and Su-25. Rockets family of X-29 with a starting weight of 660-680 kg warhead has a weight of 320 kilograms. Their range of fire - 10-15 km depending on the transparency of the atmosphere. Capture target seeker is made from under the wing of the aircraft, so after starting the vehicle can maneuver freely (if the application of missiles with laser homing an external source of illumination purposes), implementing the principle of "fire and forget." Maximum accuracy with a television homing missiles achieved by visually contrasting goals. For the application of laser homing required target illumination laser, which can be carried out from the media (in this case it will be to some extent constrained in maneuver until the moment the missile hitting the target must be in the area of impact) or an external source, such as UAV. It provides a direct hit in a typical small-sized target (two to three meters) with a probability of 80 percent or more. The powerful high-explosive armor-piercing warhead at a speed of a missile in the target area of 350-400 meters per second provides virtually guaranteed to destroy it, even if it is protected by one and a half meters of concrete slabs. In this area adjacent to the target destruction of buildings does not exceed 10-15 meters. In Syria, the missiles are used to destroy a particularly protected objects located in dense urban areas, in order to avoid casualties among the local population.

Small missiles X-25, which also find use in Syria, has a launch weight of 300 kg warhead and from 86 to 136 kilograms. Recent modifications of this missile can be equipped with a tandem warhead, punching concrete floors up to a meter thick, providing a complete destruction of the object. The accuracy of - the same two or three meters deviation as that of X-29. Target Lock is also carried out under the wing of the vehicle, so the practical launch range is mainly limited to a range of GOS, which is in a clean atmosphere reaches 7-12 kilometers. High accuracy and a relatively small warhead allow the use of the X-25 in dense areas to destroy facilities located in close proximity to residential buildings without causing them serious damage.

KAB Bombs

In addition to these samples, the Russian videoconferencing in Syria used to a limited extent guided aerial bombs. We know a few facts about the use of KAB-500L and KAB-500Kr. The first one has a laser guidance system, the second - television. Both powerful warheads weighing about 400 kilograms, containing a little less than 280 kilograms of explosives. The accuracy of hitting the target is four - nine meters - at the level of the best world standards. Reset may be performed from a height of 1,500 meters and to a practical ceiling of aircraft operations and tactical attack aircraft. Subject distance and height bomb release limited allowable flight speed and range of the carrier capture target homing (9 km). Chance of defeat even well-protected objects one such munition is 80-85 percent or more. The powerful warhead further increases the probability of destroying the target, however, and imposes restrictions on the use of such weapons in residential areas with dense buildings. Therefore, in Syria half tone KABs are used occasionally for hitting particularly robust facilities located away from residential buildings. In particular, according to reliable sources, just such bombs destroyed fortifications militants in the interests of the Syrian army offensive.

To strike at targets located in close proximity to civilian objects, our aircraft uses the latest development of the Russian defense industry - CC-250. In Syria, a bomb of this type are used with a control system, which provides guidance on stationary target according to GLONASS, like the American JDAM. However, our development has features. Firstly, it permits discharge at supersonic speed, which allows its separation from the carrier at a distance from the target in a few tens of kilometers, and provide high speed bomb of the area of impact. Second, improved aerodynamic shape allowed to achieve higher accuracy of hitting the target, which is estimated at two to three meters. In combination with the relatively small warhead it allows the use of CC-250 on the targets located directly at the objects, the destruction of which is unacceptable for various reasons. For such surgical strikes the munition and is used today in Syria.

Precision-guided munitions systems television and laser guidance can attack mobile and stationary targets without carrying out detailed exploration well in advance. This allows efficient use of CABs to quickly identify sites and fortifications defense fighters.

Of particular note is that the used of Russian tactical weapons and attack aircraft allows our aircraft do not enter the zone of destruction of MANPADS militants. And it is possible to avoid the loss gives our aviation group in Syria.

Thanks for the link.

In October and November 2013 at the site of the Ministry of Defence of the Russian Kapustin Yar tested "Tor-M2KM" to combat and technical equipment in a modular design, placed on the automobile chassis TATA Indian production. During the tests were fully confirmed by all the declared performance characteristics, in particular, the combat capabilities of the complex for the defeat of air targets on the far edge of the affected area 15 km, targets flying at a speed of 700 m / s, as well as those flying with foreign exchange option more 6 km at a distance of 12 km.

One the new Verba manpad
On the set of technical specifications "Verba" surpasses all the world analogues. Due to the increasing sensitivity of homing zone capture and destruction of typical air target rockets "Verba" than MANPADS "Igla-S" increased 2.5.

At least 10-fold increased The security complex pyrotechnic interference. New unique trёhspektralnaya seeker provides a selection of false targets with powerful thermal heat radiation. In 1.5-2 times increased the combat effectiveness of the complex. This was made possible due to the combination of innovation and improve the performance of MANPADS. The complex has a higher accuracy. Like the "Needle-C" warhead "Willows" is equipped with a contact-proximity fuse.

Russian TV stations broadcast secret nuclear torpedo plans

Document was left out in view when NTV and Channel One filmed Vladimir Putin meeting with military officials in Sochi
Plans for a secret Russian nuclear torpedo, shown during a TV broadcast.

Thursday 12 November 2015 00.04 GMT

The Kremlin has admitted that Russian television accidentally showed secret plans for a nuclear torpedo system on air.

Two Kremlin-controlled channels, NTV and Channel One, showed a military official looking at a confidential document containing drawings and details of a weapons system called Status-6, designed by Rubin, a nuclear submarine construction company based in St Petersburg.

The nuclear torpedoes, to be fired by submarines, would create “zones of extensive radioactive contamination making them unsuitable for military or economic activity for a long period”, says the document, which is clearly visible in the footage for several seconds.

The images were filmed during a meeting of President Vladimir Putin with military officials in the Black Sea city of Sochi on Monday.

The footage was aired on Tuesday and later deleted by the channels, but several websites still published screenshots from it.

“It’s true some secret data got into the shot, therefore it was subsequently deleted,” Putin’s spokesman, Dmitry Peskov, told journalists.

“In future we will undoubtedly take preventive measures so this does not happen again.”

It remained unclear how the images ended up being broadcast on the tightly controlled channels.

The document was shown at a meeting where Putin warned that “Russia will take necessary retaliatory measures to strengthen the potential of our strategic nuclear forces”

Russia to deploy new weapons to counter US missile shield
Associated Press By VLADIMIR ISACHENKOV
November 10, 2015

NATO's U.S.-led missile defense program by deploying new strike weapons capable of piercing the shield, President Vladimir Putin said Tuesday.

Putin told defense officials that by developing defenses against ballistic missiles Washington aims to "neutralize" Russia's strategic nuclear deterrent and gain a "decisive military superiority."

He said that Moscow will respond by developing "strike systems capable of penetrating any missile defenses."

"Over the past three years, companies of the military-industrial complex have created and successfully tested a number of prospective weapons systems that are capable of performing combat missions in a layered missile defense system. Such systems have already begun to enter the military this year. And now we are talking about development of new types of weapons," Putin said.

His statement comes amid a severe strain in Russia's relations with the U.S. and its NATO allies, which have plunged to the lowest point since the Cold War over the crisis in Ukraine.

For many years, the Kremlin has protested the U.S.-led missile shield, voicing concern that it could eventually become capable of intercepting Russia's nuclear-tipped intercontinental ballistic missiles, thus eroding the strength of the nation's nuclear deterrent.

Russian President Vladimir Putin, centre, shakes hands with Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu at a meet …

Washington, in turn, has argued that the shield was aimed to fend off missile threats from nations such as Iran and North Korea and wouldn't be capable of dealing with the massive Russian nuclear arsenal.

Putin argued Tuesday that the U.S. has kept working on the missile shield despite Iran's deal with six world powers that has curbed its nuclear program in exchange for relief from international sanctions.

"So, references to the Iranian and the North Korean nuclear missile threat just have served to cover up the true plans, and their true task is to neutralize nuclear potential of other nuclear powers, ... Russia in particular," Putin said. "Regrettably, our concerns and cooperation proposals haven't been taken into account."

Putin added that in the future Russia may also work on the development of its own missile defense systems, but will now focus primarily on commissioning new strike weapons.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that Russia aims to spend less on its missile-defense system than the United States has done.

"The Russian president has repeatedly said that we are not going to follow the United States' lead and spend stratospheric amounts on a missile-defense system," he told journalists. "The president has been saying the options we choose are much lower in cost but no less, and maybe even more, efficient."

PS: The concept of using N-tipped torpedoes has been there for some time.Previous N-tipped torps were meant to despatch other N-subs to Davy Jones' Locker. But imagine a sub stationed not too far outside the enemy coastline, say 40km+,the range of some modern torps.,close to a major enemy naval base, firing an n-tipped torpedo at it.Saturating the seas with subs is heavy in the mindset of the PRC. IN subs operating in the ICS could be tasked with delivering a package for Hainan.

who knows..just shows the level at which the russians and the west (and even the chinese) are maniacs.. care two hoots about the world they inhabit and will blow it all to bits.. but that is exactly what is "strength" amongst the troika as well..
conventional weapons are one thing.. this sort of stuff is next level doomsday weapon stuff..
