Are there two different terror attacks? I thought it was the IAF base that was attacked and that the attackers had been boxed into a single building. So where does this hilly terrain come from?
Is there another group of terrorists loose in Pathankot?
Looking at the time the article was written (@1.30 AM) it was before the attacks happened. The feeling I get (FWIW) is that there were omens of this attack due to which the preparation was ramped up. All these were symptoms of the same attack it looks like.
It looks like the reaction to inputs was swift at all levels..... quite opposite to the goof up being mentioned

Pathankot is only 15 KM from border. Start of Hilly terrain is from outskirts of Pathankot. One theory is infiltration was detected/informed upon/unplugged. Intelligence was anticipated, NSG and army columns were moved to harden the area --- which area specifically is not known. Gurdaspur SP attack was done by the same group or not is unclear. Gurdaspur itself is 50 KM away from Pathankot. Where was the SP vehicle hijacked from. Some reports say 15-20 infiltrators but not sure..
4 terrorists killed being reported. 2 security personnel also fallen. Gunshots still being heard. So, means it was more than 4, if latest report is correct.
The National Security Guard or the NSG has been called in for help. Helicopters have also been dispatched to the area for assistance, senior police officials have said.
Following the warning, the National Security Advisor held an urgent meeting with senior officials late last night. The air chief and all concerned officers were also informed.
Security was increased in the area.
The NSG was alerted and additional police forces from Jammu and Kashmir were asked to be on standby
Looks like preparation averted what could have been a bigger attack
It will be good if these dead donkeys can be ID'd . If they are from local valley then their families must face the heat and if they are Paki , Sink the PN ship with at least 70-80 On board.

Reports are they have been and it is JEM. We intercepted their call.
If the terrorists want to see IAF aircraft's then we should show them a live demo with dropping of few PGM's.
The main reason they don't fear to attack is that their base(TSP) is safe from any attack.
Recently what Syrian/RuAF did was that they dropped a few when the meeting was carried out by ISIS top guys. Similar things could be done by us.
Folk good that terrorists were killed.
Meanwhile just like the airbase we need some lessons learned:
- Stop putting acronyms like DSO etc like jargon. First usage should spell it out. Los of people visit forum in such times. So no jargon.
- Please don't Monday morning quarterback ongoing operations. If you are that good you would be out there.
- Posters like Shreeman should not use BENIS language or else desist from posting.
I don't recall an airbase ever being hit by jihadis before. Perhaps they are pushing the envelope to see how we respond. If Modi cancels the talks he'll look like an idiot and if he continues he'll be seen as weak. Could we actually see some retaliation this time?

Anyone not observing should be banned by admins.
ramana: Have to say this but only Americans will get that analogy. Added: Not trying to take away the seriousness of your post. just an observation.
its DSC ( defence security corps) ..old army jawans kept as guards ..post retirement. inspite of 1000 yrs of history , our leaders have learnt nothing.

there seems to be a lot of tooing and froing with the pakis in our panjab with amarinder singh having some sort of personal interest in pushing for relations with the pakis resulting in a lot of visas being issued.
the same thing seems to be happening in dilli too with private invitations to paki nationals of the WKK variety and visas being issued indiscriminately.
as always paki "businessmen" seem to slip in and out rather easily too.
Press is now reporting all the four pakis are killed. I wonder if there is any more silent pakis already inside India to attack at another place. We got intelligence this time and lost 2 of our people. We need to look at processes to stop losses at our end when we have information. Maybe there is no specific information in this case on the target. We will never know full details of course.
According to media reports, fresh gunshots have been heard during the combing operations by the Indian army and police.
At least one terrorist is at large. Search for the 5th terrorist is still going on, encounter has begun again.
Security choppers are hovering over the terror site now.
IAF Garud Commando has been killed during the combing operation.
Airbase attack certainly signify extensive survelliane of Pathankot airbase were done, also four gunman has definatly give away element of surprise by ambushing a car and thereby alerting our security forces. In normal course, one simply can't predict which target about to get their reception, also hand of Pak ISI cannot be ruled out as they were involved in honey trapping of IAF and BSF personel to extract our airbase deployments.
Tit for tat attack as some members suggested above should never going to solve this upcoming crisis, as elements in Pak army and ISI certainly drawing Indian security forces into escalatory response.
