Newbie Corner & Military Miscellaneous - Aug 2016
Re: Newbie Corner & Military Miscellaneous - Aug 2016
One noob question
Does the EOTS on F35 work as IRST also?
Does the EOTS on F35 work as IRST also?
Re: Newbie Corner & Military Miscellaneous - Aug 2016
^^ The short answer is, Yes. Long answer is, there are always trade-offs, even with a upper nose mounted solution. Data is scarce so it cannot be effectively gauged how effective it might be as an IRST solution.

Identify the aircraft.
Re: Newbie Corner & Military Miscellaneous - Aug 2016
^^^ Isn't this the Casino Royale aircraft?
Re: Newbie Corner & Military Miscellaneous - Aug 2016
Yes. I saw it in a bollywood song and was scratching my head for weeks. The hump, fuselage and wings were distinctly 747 but those podded twin engines didn't make any sense. Finally I searched for odd 747 variant and got the following.

Re: Newbie Corner & Military Miscellaneous - Aug 2016
A question of Jet Engine gurus here:
How does the F-16 manage to attain Mach 2+ speeds without the use of a variable intake ramp/cone or a DSI? Every other Mach 2+ aircraft needs one of those technologies to cross Mach 1.8. The F-16 seems to be the only exception other than the F-22 which uses a different caret compression technology which I do not understand. It is apparently also used on the SuperHornet but the SH is limited to Mach 1.6 while the F-22 can go beyond Mach 2.2.

A question on Google Earth and other Map experts.
Over the past few weeks I have been trying to map the border road infra by manually checking and following branching tracks and roads on the GE. Right now focusing on Aksai chin and Ladakh area both sides. The question is how can i see LAC marking as the GE is not showing the LAC, at least in my login. I have switched on "everything" in the layers option.

It won't show from Indian IP addresses. Wikimapia does, though it is not always accurate. For example, it shows only the chinese claim line over Pangong Tso along with the IB. But it is a good starting point, nevertheless.

Is there a potential route to Xinxiang from the Indian side?

I think only latest F-16 Block 70/72 touches Mach 2, the Original Block 5/10/15/30 etc had a max speed of around 1.6. The latest versions Block 70 and Block 60 as Lockheed Martin announces use the technology from the F-22/ F 35 programmes

Re: Newbie Corner & Military Miscellaneous - Aug 2016
OT Alert!!
A few years (6-7) back someone here posted a YouTube video of Indian Army exercises in desert (compilation of various exercise videos) with an amazing music in background. I downloaded and kept it for many years. Wanted to show it to my son who just turned 8, however, I could not find it on HD or YouTube. It was initial days when TFTA kind of videos were hard to come by. Old timers would remember as it was one of initial few who led to creation of many YouTube channels. Will be very grateful If anyone remembers or share a link... Thanks

Re: Newbie Corner & Military Miscellaneous - Aug 2016
Is it possible to list out all programs in the first page of a thread...
For example, just list out names of all military helicopter programs in first page of 'Indian Military Helicopters'...
Or list out all missile programs in first page of 'Indian Missiles' etc....
They may be arranged with sub-headings like
Army Helicopters, Navy Helicopters, Air Force Helicopters or something like Ballistic Missiles, Cruise missiles etc...
This will help noobies like me to get the overall picture of things... There seem to be too many programs and it is somewhat confusing given the wide range of acronymns...

Re: Newbie Corner & Military Miscellaneous - Aug 2016
Hi, a question for the mods and old timers. the images attached in the threads sometimes don't show up when there are no links. there is only "image" when browsing on a laptop, but the same are displayed when browsing through a smartphone. i am using Firefox for browsing. do i have to have any addons or do anything else to get the images when browsing on a laptop?
Not sure if this question came in the newbie section or the forum feedback page?

Not sure if this is the right thread for it but do you all know some good resources for a deep dive into the history of the Indian Intelligence community ?
Any good books/threads/forums/articles etc that showcase some of their greatest achievements , biggest failures , de-classified missions ,double agents etc etc
I feel like i've read so much on Mossad,GRU,OSS etc but barely anything about R&AW

British and Chinese got their nuke designs from Americans and Soviets respectively. Only other declared nuclear powers which made nukes on their own are France and India.
Any argument against it?
