If they had wealthier fliends they'll sell better. Obviously cheaper than the C-17. But more than the IL-76 which is around $60M per when the Russkies were making them. I'd say $80-100m. Maybe Thailand can buy exactly 1. Maybe Paki can buy 1 with "fliendship plice." I don't see many on this list that can afford it.

It can easily draw notice of potential buyers outside these countries.....just like any other marketing strategy you can promote impression and awareness and later try to optimize the marketing funnel by converting it.

Rare subject: the GX-6 ASW platform. Based on the ubiqitous Y-8/9 four-engined turboprop.

Are they bombs as the poster says? Maybe depth charges? Possibly capsuled torpedoes? Definitely not iron bombs.

Why are those clowns in the Pakiland pic holding the Paki flag upside down? Surely the Pakis would have a bit more dignity, or is that asking too much?

Hilarious!! First PTV states that IK Niazi was Begging in place of Beijing (excuse misspelling - Really?), and now we see the Puki flag kneeling before China. :rotfl:

But more seriously - while Indians debate about local vs imports, the Chinese are building a vast MIC. We can laugh all we want but this gives them credibility in the eyes of several smaller nations (Africa, Middle East etc.) We can keep importing to our peril.

Nothing wrong here! Flying a flag upside-down is conventional protocol to indicate an emergency or problem, where's the error? :-?

The real takeaway, which should be a lesson for all us, is that the Chinese have leveraged their manufacturing, scientific, engineering, and academic base toward their MIC. In India - industry is treated as a pariah that must be heavily taxed and regulated because they're out to rip off the country.

It doesn't look like the GOI cares about industry. I think they feel that the industrialists are sitting on springs of wealth and therefore the more they are harassed, the more GOI's revenues will go up. There is a basic gap in understanding economics it seems. All of the recent efforts of the GOI are to throw billions at the farm industry - which is one the most inefficient in the world and pays not a single dollar in taxation. Free power is given to farmers while raising the price of power for industry to pay for this freebie. But it helps the politicians shore up votes. Indian farmers are the biggest money launderers in the world and get away scot free while industrialists become immediate targets and are losing billions. The hold of politicians over the national economy and their ability to launch mind boggling programs of sheer waste should be stopped. Incentives for industry to widen employment opportunities are needed. The farmers need help in improving crop yields and modern tools and techniques.

See my post in the Indian economy thread on the "Erhardian Bargain."

This is what Germany and every country in the Far East entered into in order to industrialize. Basically, you put industry above people for a generation or two:

China reportedly hugely expanding the atoll obtained on lease from the Maldives,by land reclamation to turn it into a full- fledged military base including an airstrip as its land-grabbing was done in the Spratlys. The GOI should immddiately pressurise hhd Maldives govt. to cancel the lease forthwith and that no base for military or logistic purposes can be set up by China anywhere in the country.

Army Chief Naravane’s 2012 prophecy on Chinese strategy rings true in Ladakh sector
Given that India has been upgrading its infrastructure along the border with China since 2014, officials say some amount of border friction is going to be the reality of the day

excerpts
Back in the autumn of 2012, a senior faculty member at the Mhow-based Army War College published a paper on the China’s war zone campaign (WZC). Beijing would, the army officer argued, seek to coerce smaller adversaries into acceding to China’s demand through graded threat of force or actual use of force till its ends are met.

The officer, then Brigadier Manoj Mukund Naravane, wrote that the political objective of this Chinese concept is unveiled by “occupation of certain un-held tract of land or high value targets’. This would be done through elite forces.

and
The first would be the domination-cum-deterrence (DCD) phase where the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) would focus on building up its presence in the territory in question to deter the enemy. In the second phase, Gaining Initiative by Striking First (GISF), it would deploy rapid reaction units to strike first to wrest the initiative from the enemy. The last stage is the Quick Battle Quick Resolution where the PLA would use a dedicated division level force. But the PLA, the senior army officer said in his seminal paper published in Scholar Warrior, a journal published by the Delhi-based think tank Center For Land Warfare Studies, expects to achieve its objective in the first two phases.

I read the announcement, not all that welcoming. The evacuees are asked to pay for the flight AND for two weeks of quarantine in Cheen. It is almost like a grudging obligation that every nation provides for their nationals but here they don't want people to actually take up the offer.

They are locking down flights with each airlines including those flying to the US to just one flight a week because they are scare to death of a second wave. The MNCs had been clamoring to get people to their operations in China but can't. Trump is threatening them on this front too. Cheen is turning inward in a way that is pretty astonishing for a trading nation.

So it seems both of their carriers are out at sea. CV-16 had been tooling around the Pacifuc for a few weeks. CV-17 left port yesterday.

Story is that they will converge on Taiwan for "war games."

Seven of 11 USN carriers are out at sea too. The USS Reagan has left homeport Yokosuka, Japan. USS Reagan has sailed from Guam. USS Nimitz and Lincoln has departed San Diego. A lot of carriers in or heading towards the Western Pacific.

This should be fun.

China plans to deploy two aircraft carriers off Taiwan for war games to stoke tensions with Washington as Beijing warns of a 'new Cold War' amid virus blame game

By Ralph R. Ortega For Dailymail.com
22:49 EDT 25 May 2020 , updated 02:32 EDT 26 May 2020

China is reportedly sending its two new aircraft carriers into war games near the Pratas Islands, playing into fears that a Taiwan invasion could be next as tensions with the US continue to worsen.

The aircraft carriers Liaoning and Shandong are currently in Bohai Bay in the Yellow Sea on a combat readiness mission before the massive ships head into the war games. The move comes after Chinese Premier Li Keqiang expressed Beijing's desire to 'reunify' with self-ruled Taiwan, an apparent policy shift.

The 7 US carriers out at sea is not abnormal given what they are doing. Most of those deployments could have been predicted or otherwise explained. CVN-78 (Ford) is strictly doing CQ's in support of East Cost carrier readiness. The plan to cycle up her EMALS/AAG after she returned to sea and hten transition to CQ's was revealed last year so is no surprise. It can't deploy for combat. CVN 71 (T. Roosevelt) likewise is doing CQ's to get her air-wing back into shape after a pause due to COVID-19 cases. Had it not been for COVID-19, it would have been deployed in the region anyways.

CVN-76 (Reagan) was always scheduled to deploy in this time-frame, and is was working up with sea-trials in preparation for the deployment as it went underway earlier this month. Likewise, CVN-68 (Nimitz) was expected to deploy this time of the year as well, and was doing a COMPTUEX in preparation for the deployment last month. CVN-69 (Ike) is supporting CENTCOM AOR so not relevant. She was operating in the Red Sea earlier this year.

CVN-72 (Lincoln) is probably the only carrier out of the lot that had its deployment moved up (though no way to confirm as USN no longer discloses deployment schedules in advance) but that's probably because they had little idea on how fast Roosevelt would recover operational capability given her COVID-19 outbreak.

US Carriers generally deploy at an establishes cadence and not only when needed or during heightened tensions. Its a near constant global deployment with few gaps in between. The fighting ability of the Chinese carriers is still questionable given how new they are to this and given they are still developing their carrier program.

https://www.jenniferzengblog.com/home/xu-yan-speech

From Jennifer Zeng, a translation of General Xu Yan's speech.

Xinjiang and Tibet are the weaknesses of China. Furthermore, there was an "Umbrella Revolution" which sought independence for Hong Kong. The international anti-China forces want to turn Hong Kong into a bridgehead to oppose the Communist Party.

The young people are creating chaos, and the key reason is their parents are bad. Education is another problem.

When we took back Hong Kong in 1997, I had participated, together with leaders of the People's Liberation Army Hong Kong garrison, in the study of Hong Kong's social conditions.

Hong Kong's social foundation, to tell you the truth based on the facts, is the worst in China, even worse than Taiwan.

In his book "The Analysis of Various Classes in Chinese Society," Chairman Mao said, when you analyze the situation of a place, you should first analyze its class composition and social status.

In Taiwan, there are not that many people who really oppose the Communist Party. 80 percent of the original Taiwanese are indifferent to the Communist Party. The other 20 percent who went there had been captured by the Kuomintang [the nationalist party defeated by the Chinese Communist Party] and later became soldiers.

Hong Kong is different. When we took over Hong Kong in 1997 and analyzed the composition of its residents, [we found] that there were three thirds. One-third [of the residents] were the native born and their descendants, educated within the British Hong Kong system. These people are somewhat arrogant. However, they don't hate mainland China that much.

One-third of them are the worst. They ran to Hong Kong [from China] during 1949 and 1950 after being purged, stricken, driven out, and deprived of everything by the Communist Party. Many of these people hate the Communist Party with every fiber of their beings.

Another one-third suffered starvation during the Three Years of Difficulties (the Great Chinese Famine from 1959 to 1961). Those people smuggled themselves to Hong Kong as asylum seekers during the Cultural Revolution. How can you expect this kind of people to have good thoughts about the Communist Party?

To sum up, after we took back Hong Kong, we made a big mistake. [That was, we promised that] nothing would be changed. How would that do if you don't decolonize everything?

After more than 20 years since we took back Hong Kong, they are still using textbooks of the British Dependent Territories. Furthermore, when we wanted to change the textbooks, the parents didn't allow it. So why are the students, the young people, bad? Because their parents are bad. They didn’t allow us to change the textbooks. For more than 20 years, hey are still using textbooks of the British Dependent Territories.

So why are these young students creating chaos? Because their education is really bad. The education system has problems.

I think it is now the time for us to act. A big lesson for us in the past, is that we emphasized too much “two systems” [the policy governing Hong Kong is “one country/two systems”]. We didn’t emphasize “one country.”

Last year, after our new Chief Executive, Carrie Lam, took office, I think she did two things very well.

First, those who participated in “Occupy Central” [a civil disobedience campaign aimed at reforming the electoral system in Hong Kong] and created chaos were sentenced.

Second, starting from this year, they have been changing the textbooks. You should use textbooks for Chinese citizens. How can you use textbooks for citizens of the British Dependent Territories?

We need to educate these people. You are all educators here. You all understand this. If you want to educate these people, you cannot achieve your goal in one or two years. Education is a long-term issue

I wish we'd stop it with we should give this, that and the other guy nooks. One, we are not proliferators like the damn pukes and chinis. Two, it also shows a lack of understanding who actually controls the eastern periphery around Cheen and ultimately how that affects India. The one that controls this region is the United States. Unkil says who gets what around Cheen. Unkil's position here is one reason why we have overwhelming advantages on our own border with Cheen. The lizard is scared sh1tless of its vulnerabilities. All of its most valuable assets are within reach of the USN or USAF bases. So the vast perponderance of its military strength will always be facing east.

Anyhoo, it means chinis are now building variants of the ARJ-21. Watch for mil related variants soon.
