referring to your post regarding Angad Singh’s comment about M2K but yes also Rafale. Is it fair to understand that western designers over design their aircraft? Their engine tech is quite advanced and helps overcome any problems with TWR.
It goes beyond that. It is a difference in design philosophy. The Mig-29 had a better T:W ratio than just about any other fighter of its era (certainly better than the M2k). If the Russians wanted to overbuild it they would not have been constrained by engine thrust for sure. And this is not limited to the airframes. The engine MTBF rates are much lower for Russian engines in general compared to western ones. The Russian ones will be cheaper though.

The following tweet is from Air Marshal Raghunath Nambiar (retd). Just in case someone accuses the kind Air Marshal of being import pasand  , please read his tweets, which I have reproduced below.

That is the *MAIN* reason why I am posting this tweet in the IAF Rafale thread.

Formal induction of Rafale has taken place at Ambala AFS on 10 Sept 2020. No 17 Golden Arrows Squadron is the unit that has been raised. The second unit - No 101 Falcons Squadron - will be raised at Hasimara AFS. Below are some tweets and pictures.

I was surprised to read that. I expected nothing more than "Congrats to the IAF on Rafale induction."

Comparing Rafale to Mirage 2000 serviceability and Rafale to Super Sukhoi is a pleasant surprise :)

Rakesh he is more aware, see his other tweet he is aware of that Rafale is 4.5 gen (when our esteemed judges could barely understand that), its combat proven (not a newbie off the rack) and he understands that mix of different aircraft causes issues for opposition :

https://twitter.com/msdhoni/status/1303948918296895489 -------> With the Final Induction Ceremony the world’s best combat proven 4.5Gen fighter plane gets the world’s best fighter pilots. In the hands of our pilots and the mix of different aircrafts with the IAF the potent bird’s lethality will only increase.

In those two tweets he has shown mastery that I have never seen nor expected in any celebrity (compare this with our intellectuals who call it Rafale Aircraft Carrier :rotfl: )

nachiket, while waiting for signal to takeoff or during descent, the pilot switches off one engine to conserve fuel.

This is a major milestone event in IAF and they have to do this....gwarp!

(I think whomever briefed him, told him it comes in single and double seater versions but with two engine  )

I think Dassault should fire their PR department and hire this gentleman. Who else can claim with a straight face that each Rafale comes with its own Air Superiority and Nuclear Deterrence?

Indian govt may be hyping up the Rafale to make it politically easier to order the next batch of 36.

If another 36 are ordered before the 83 LCA Tejas Mk1, then it is absolutely criminal of the MoD and IAF. It means the defense leadership doesn't give a damn about Indian MIC in the long run.
