That is a nice looking vehicle.
So how does it work with these Joint Ventures? Is the cost per-vehicle then cheaper than if they purchased it directly from the OEM? What is Kalyani offering to reduce the costs below what it would cost to just acquire OEM vehicles?
Local manufacture, presumably, to lower labor costs?

That doesn't really look like an on-site photograph from Ladakh. If you look at the transition from the foreground to background, it looks either like a screen background taken off google maps, or recreated, or a very good Photoshop job. These are publicity photos after all.

Is the Kalyani M4 indigenously developed by Kalyani or is it more screwdriver giri?

Re: Military Vehicles: News & Discussion
Screwdrivergiri, unfortunately. Am a little disappointed that the order went to Kalyani, when domestic designed & developed platforms were available

Isn't it this one?

Mahindra's newest armoured military vehicle undergoing testing somewhere in north. Can carry 4 policemen or 7 armymen in same space. Armament includes 31mm canon & coaxial 6.8mm gun. Can be fitted with tracks for offroad & wheels in urban areas.

Lets stop criticizing after decision is made.
Mine proof vehicles are South African speciality since Angola War..
Paramount tied up with Kalyani group.
Orders are from the Emergency funds.
Future orders will depend on how these perform.
Re: Military Vehicles: News & Discussion
^^ All MPV by Indian manufacturers are based on South African design. No need to single out Kalyani.
But then again, Army has hundreds of MPV already in service. Why the emergency procurement? Or is this in some category different from MPV?

Re: Military Vehicles: News & Discussion
M4 is big, yet smaller compared to all other MPVs I have seen in person. This one seems to be an armoured Humvee type while others are like large mini-buses which can't go everywhere.
BTW, what's with just 200 vehicles? Any idea which units will receive them?

Re: Military Vehicles: News & Discussion
Jamwal you are correct in your assertion about size being big but small in relation to other mpvs. I feel like this looks more akin to a similar evolution of how the hummer led to the oshkosh JLTV. Suspect these might be similar sizes.
Re: Military Vehicles: News & Discussion
Is M4 for light armoured vehicle requirement?
